Shalom and welcome to via hafte yes Ryan a Hebrew phrase which means you shall love Israel we hope you'll stay with us for the next 30 minutes as our teacher dr. Baruch shares his expose Ettore teaching from the Bible dr. Baruch is the senior lecturer at the Zahra Avraham Institute based in Israel although all courses are taught in Hebrew at the Institute dr. Baruch is pleased to share this weekly address in English to find out more about our work in Israel please visit us on the web at love Israel you are G that's one word love Israel dot o-r-g now here's Baruch with today's lesson God is seeking people that he can use those individuals that want to manifest his glory reveal his truth and be instruments of his purposes and plan and Avram who will be known as Avraham in a few short weeks well what we find is this that this man was indeed such a person but the question that you and I should be asking ourselves as this are we such an individual do we really want to manifest his glory do we want to play a part in his purposes do we want to speak his truth regardless of the consequences see it's only those type of individuals that are going to experience the power and the anointing of the Holy Spirit being given to them in a very very important manner what does that manner victory it is when you are committed to truth committed to the purposes of God and have as your primary desire God's glory to be manifested through you then as a believer you are not going to be only recipients of the Holy Spirit but you are going to be individuals that manifest and receive his power his anointing his illumination in your life that's what each of us should desire well take out your Bible and look with me to the book of Genesis in chapter 14 the book of Genesis chapter 14 now in this scripture we're going to see in the end victory God loves to provide his people with victory so that he might receive the glory that his name and his presence might be revealed to others and the one who's going to do that in an undeniable manner is Avram and he's going to do that before the enemy and also those who have entered into a covenant relationship with him and Abraham is going to demonstrate that that relationship is for what we would say today an evangelistic purpose that they might know who he belongs to and how he makes decisions those decisions which are to honor and glorify his God well look as I said to chapter 14 of the book of Genesis and verse 1 now initially we're going to see two groups of of Nations and these nations are going to come together forming two groups for the purpose of war now it's confusing with all of these names and I'm going to give you the traditional Hebrew enunciation of these names so follow along carefully verse 1 and it came about in the days of AFL the king of shinar our yoke the king of ellasar kay door la lumière the king of elam and did ow the king going now these four individuals kings and their Nations make up group one it's very important if you're going to follow along that you are aware that there are two groups and what kings belong to each group so I want to read this again verse 1 and it came about in the days of I'm Rafael the king of Shannara our yoke the king of ellasar que door la o Mara the king of elam and today ow the king going the king of going those are the first group these four individuals and we read in verse 2 that they made war and now we're going to meet the second group the second group consists of beara the king of saddam this is Sodom and beer Shah the king of I'm Laura amaura is what we would call today in English Gomorrah so we have Sodom and Gomorrah but in the Hebrew Saddam and I and then we find Shin of the king of admah and Shem aver the King sublime and finally Malik Beyla and this is so our so the first group consists of four nations with four kings and the second group consists of five kings with five nations and they according to what we've seen they make war with one another now look at verse three and all these they join together that is they came they were united and the implication is for war and they were united at the valley of seeding and this is Yamaha Mela which is the salt sea or what's commonly referred to in English as the Dead Sea so there you knighted in this area for battle now what should we remember well we should remember that this is the area that looked the nephew of Avram that he selected and we said these people and these nations were very evil they sinned against God that is they were rebellious they were not just lacking illumination of the truth no the term here means that they knew some of the truth and they were against it they were sinners against God and the implication is with intent so very evil people and it should not surprise us that when we are pursuing sin we're pursuing the desires of our flesh what we want and as James teaches in his epistle where do wars and conflicts come from they come from one another when we have a desire but others stand in opposition to it so it shouldn't surprise us that when we look at this ungodly sinful place where everyone was doing what he wants to do that the outcome is going to be war now let's press on to verse 4 there we find something it says for 12 years they serve K Darla o mare who apparently is the the ruler of this first coalition because if you go back to verse 1 you will find here that the third king that is mentioned in Group one is this individual so this second group they were enslaved and they served and the implication is they serve this individual what's called here k door lemare they served him 12 years but in the thirteenth year there began a rebellion it says here 13 years they rebelled and it's not clear if it's in the thirteenth year or what we would say for thirteen years they were rebelling I personally believe it's in the thirteenth year why do I say that well now verse 5 it says and in 14 years so in the fourteenth year that's what makes sense we find that that they were rebelling and the leader had enough of it because it says hey d'Or la lumière he came and the Kings which were with him so this first group came against those who were rebelling the second group who was rebelling against the first who had enslaved them for those twelve years they rebelled and in the next year the fourteenth year this leadership and these nations that made up Group one they came to do war and it says here in verse five that they struck at Rephaim and also at Estoril carnem and also has oozing at the hem at the hem and also at a meme which is at ave Korea team so we see that these places are being attacked by Group one because of the rebellion of group two we also continue in verse six seen that it continues on also the Horrocks in the mountains of Sayre all the way to el parang which is near to the desert the mid bar so the scripture saying that there is retaliation retaliation of Group 1 upon group 2 now we member group to consist of Saddam vay amaura that is Sodom and Gomorrah why is that important well we'll remember last week and I alluded to it earlier when what was was challenged to to separate from Avram we know that he looked with his eyes he did hear the voice of God and he made a decision to go to that area close to Saddam V amaura Sodom and Gomorrah even those two names elicit those types of sinful behavior and individuals who are rebellious against God so he was there and he made it through this this war the first one where they were enslaved presumably he was also enslaved and he rebelled with these kings and now attack is coming and notice what it says look if you would to verse 7 and they returned and they came to an miss spot which is Kadesh like Kadesh Barnea and they struck all the field of the Amalekites and also the emirates that were dwelling in a place called cut such sone Tamar and verse 8 and the king of Saddam went out and the king of amaura that is gomorrah and the king of admah and the king of civil engg and the king Beyla which is so are and they did something it says they arranged for war with them in the valley of Sedin so here's the picture we saw that there was a war between these two groups group one was able to enslave group 2 group 2 was enslave for 12 years in the thirteenth year they rebelled against this bondage and in the fourteenth year Group one came to to execute judgment upon their their former slaves and we find they came to these places they struck these locations and in the end what do we know well we know this we know that there was a war arranged in the valley of Sidi now look at verse 9 what took place well verse 9 says and K Dorel mayor the king of elam and to out the king of and our Rafael the king of shinar and our yo the king of ellasar it says four kings against five so the second group consists of four excuse me the second group consists of five kings whereas the first group consists of four but in the end we're going to see just like the first round of vital who is victorious Group one under the leadership of poo the name that keeps repeating itself K Dorit la o Mara and this is exactly what happened in this situation as well look now to verse 10 and in the valley of Siddim there were wells Wells of asphalt and the king of sodom and the king of amaura that is Sodom and Gomorrah they fled and they felled there and the rest of them they fled to the mountains so these two kings they were were taking the rest were able to get away so to speak but not these two and we read look at verse 11 and this first group big they were executing judgment on the second group and the second group remember was sodom and gomorrah this is where lot was notice what we read verse 11 and they took all the property of Saddam and amaura and all their food and they went but also verse 12 we read and they took note and all of his possessions the son of his brother which is simply the nephew of Avraham and they went and he was dwelling in Saddam well we remember last week that it says that that look he set up many habitations many homes all the way to Saddam and apparently this is where he made his primary residence so he felt victim in this this battle he was taken away now here's the key when we put ourselves among those that are ungodly that do not walk according to the truth that are not interested in the purposes of God we are going to find ourselves because we're thinking sinfully what's going to happen we are going to find ourself experiencing the consequences of sin and when sin comes into our mind one of the things that we should think of is bondage and that's exactly how Lord found himself he lost everything everything was taken both himself his people and his property and they were gone away they were being taken away at this time now look if you would to verse 13 now this is where we see God's faithfulness we see his Providence God always brain about in a small way but has implications his faithfulness so as the scripture says don't despise small things little beginnings because here in this text we read in verse 13 and a palete a palete is a escaped person one who escapes in modern hebrew we called a a refugee I believe many of the English translations use a word fugitive well it's it's one that flees and this is what we see this one fled and where did he go well he went and he said to Abraham ha every now this is the basis for the word Hebrew and he went and fled and he told to ha from the Hebrew and this term Hebrew as we've learned means one from the other side one who has crossed over so he went and he told Abraham who was dwelling in alone a mom or a this is heav room now what does have grown mean well we saw last week that have roan has to do with unity what we learned was this look he chose to surround himself with sinfulness but Avram who would become Abraham he chose to be unified with God Avraham he exemplified submissiveness where we find that that looked because of this desire for the physical success he found himself being scattered and that's exactly what we see now in actuality him being scattered being taken away from where he was he lost everything but there's going to be a change because of this proclamation of this one one individual that fled he went to Abraham he told him everything who was in this alone a memory in the plains of Mamre which is I have brought and it says that that we're with them was the amorite the brother of a skull and the brother of an F they were ballet Britt they were possessors or owners of a covenant meaning they were in a covenant --all relationship they had an agreement with Abraham and therefore they were obligated to to be with him and it says here in verse 14 and Avram he heard that his relative here it says literally his brother but it means relative he was taken captive and what did he do well he armed and very interesting his disciples it comes from the Hebrew word it's not the word Tamid but it's the word here for education those that he was educating and this is important why because it emphasizes that those who came under the authority of Abraham those that he acquired those that were born into his house he educated them in the truth of God in other words he discipled them he made them disciples if they didn't want to be discipled than they couldn't work for him or belonged to him so he armed his disciples those who were born in his house and how many were there well there was 318 the Hebrew text says Shmona SR who shallow smil 18 and 300 and that's significant because many of you know the term high in Hebrew frequently it's very common for for a woman to have a necklace with two Hebrew letters the ket and the you'd ket has a numerical value of and the Ute has a numerical value of 10 so 10 plus 8 18 and that number spells life and in Hebrew numerology we find that the number 18 speaks to life and then we have 18 and 300 whether we're talking about 3 or 300 or 3000 that number 3 has to do with revealing demonstrating and now what we're going to see is that Avram is going to demonstrate life how we should live and also the source of life and what is that to execute justice to be involved to free those in bondage to take captive those who are in captivity and set them free so once more look if you would to verse 14 Avraham he was told that his relative was taken captive therefore he responded in a moment he armed his disciples those 318 individuals and they pursued group 1 all the way to Don meaning in the far north of Israel that's where Don means in this usage verse 15 and he and the word here means to be in this case may be deployed he and his servants were deployed meaning they went out they divided themselves up for war for attacking for battle so they were deployed him and his servants upon them lyla who that night now remember something in the scripture night especially from the Old Testament standpoint good things happen at night it has an idea of redemption to it the first Passover we know took place at night therefore the word redemption or deliverance we see that that is oftentimes revealed within the context of night so it's not by accident that they were deployed Avraham and his servants upon them meaning upon those four kings meaning Group one they went to war against them and they struck them and they pursued them all the way to Hova which is on the left side of dhamma sec which is many Bibles say to the north of damascus literally the word is small to the left and if you have a more literal translation it will say on the left side or the left hand of damascus other bibles will say to the north of damascus verse 16 and abraham what did he do he returned all the possessions and also he returned who looked his relative and his possessions he returned and also the women and also the people so listen to what the scripture saying i him with just 318 men went after these five excuse me these four kings and what did he do he defeated then he saved group two and he did so why not because of any commitment or any love for those five nations but he did so because of looked and here's a message it's kind of planted in the texts they were saved because of looked thought was a relative of Avram therefore because he was there he bless these individuals because of his relationship his family connection with Havre and what the text is trying to say is this you know surround yourself with godly people and you'll be blessed even Saddam via amara and these other three nations wicked but because lot was there they benefited and the story even gets better look now to verse 17 because of Abraham's victory over Group one it brought about deliverance for group two and who is the primary leader the king of Sodoma and we read here in verse 17 and the king of Saddam went out to meet him that is to meet Abraham after he returned from the the battle we might say striking down Cade or la o mer and the kings which weren't with him so all of this group won he struck them down and now the king of Sodoma being a recipient of that victory he goes out to meet offer huh look now if you would to the second half of verse 17 they do so in emic chivay which is the valley of the king so they come to this location now why is it called the valley of the king for what purpose well look at verse 18 now in verse 18 everything changes what we need to see up into this time is one thing and that is Avraham brought about victory he gave deliverance to his nephew and those who were attached to him in any way they received and here's the key victory to interpret the scripture properly one needs to remember that the context at this time is victory Avraham's victory which in turn saved lot his wife's his the women who are with them and also all the people and all their property there was in other words a complete a total restoration now we're talking about Avram or Avraham and we know that there is a seed of Abraham and once since that seed is Israel but in a more perfect manner or in a more excellent way we know that seed of Abraham according to Galatians chapter 3 verse 16 is the Messiah so what can we dilute or what can we conclude from this we can conclude that through Avraham the seed of Avraham Messiah there can be complete restoration there can be deliverance there can be victory and it's very important that we remember those things restoration and victory when we come to the next verse verse 18 because everything changes in verse 18 there is a great revelation waiting to happen now look if you would to verse 18 and Malky said it what commonly Rhea is referred to in English as Malka sadiq but in Hebrew we say Malky Zedeck which means my king of righteousness now what do we learn we're talking about victory we're talking about deliverance and what is victory when we experience the righteousness of God when we experience deliverance and the deliverance is so that we can live righteously that's the key now Avraham think of this it is a miraculous victory it's supernatural how could just 318 min how could they defend or defeat an army of four nations well God was in it God was giving the victory once more verse 18 and mauki said ik which is the king of elam Shalem well it means completion or completeness now it's the word Shalom but understand I say this a lot understand that that Shalom biblically is the fulfillment the complete fulfillment of God's will it has idea our concept of of completion or fullness or what we could say restoration complete restoration so Malky said 'ok who is the king of elam he went out with bread and with wine now these two things think everyone knows us most interpreters those with faith they understand Malky said 'ok and we're going to be studying the book of hebrews shortly on our television broadcasts and then our internet platforms and we're going to see that it's clear that Messiah sure he is of the order of Melchizedek meaning what we should understand that he is a king that he is going to bring victory that he's going to bring righteousness he's going to blaring complete restoration to the things of God what are the things of God the promises of God and what is his means of victory well what's mentioned here left him vain bread and wine let me ask you a question did Messiah ever use bread and wine in some significant way yes he did when he spoke about Redemption when he spoke about a new covenant when he spoke about him laying down his life giving his body and shedding his blood for redemption for Vic for restoration and and that's why this passage is given because Messiah gives us victory over the enemy and what's the enemy sin what's the enemy unrighteousness and what are the outcomes of those two things bondage and ultimately death Messiah restores us from those things verse 18 and Malky setec the king of Elam he brought out bread and wine for he is the priests of the Most High God verse 19 and this priest of the Most High God it says and he blessed him meaning Melchizedek blessed Avram and he said blessed is Avram of the Most High God the one who clone Asia Miami Arts he is the the possessor he has purchased the heavens and the earth now when we talk about the heavens and earth if you were to ask a rabbi an Orthodox rabbi what does it mean the possessor or the purger of the heavens and the earth the answer he would give is this it has Kingdom ramifications meaning this he is going to make the heavens and the earth into beed his domain his kingdom he is taking ownership and who does that ultimately Messiah does when he establishes his kingdom there's going to be a new heaven and a new earth look now if you would to verse 20 he says blessed is the Most High God who has delivered your enemies into your hands now who did that this victory came about because of God Malky setec was a a mediator of God's victory to Avram and those who are in a covenant relationship with him as we saw back up earlier in the text when we learned about this look if you would back to where we were earlier when it speaks about those individuals who were with Avraham those three groups what the text says earlier on in verse verse 13 it speaks about the EM all right the brother of s goal and the brother of of on there they were balle Brit Avraham they were members they were possessors owner of a covenant with Abraham and because of that they're going to share in the victory now drop down if you would to this last part of verse 20 let's read the whole verse again and blessed is the Most High God who delivered your enemies into your hands and what did Avram do well it says here and he gave to him that is a from gave to Melchizedek a tithe or a tenth part of all now why is that important well recently and I'm not trying to pick on anyone but I mentioned this gospel coalition and they were taking a very weak stand on the concept of tithing and the reason for that is because they have a very weak view of the law now we're not saved by the law but the law still has relevance and they want to say well tithing is not really of significance just like they say Jerusalem in the land of Israel isn't of any present-day significance but they don't remember the Torah they don't remember what the scripture reveals now are we obligated to tithe no or not should we tithe yes we should now if you know me I do not talk a great deal about finances and money and giving but here the text demands it and even though this is not one of my favorite subjects to discuss because I want to be faithful to the Word of God you need to hear this I need to share it and what the scripture says is this Malky said 'ok he received a tenth part not because Avraham was commanded to do it but because this man of faith responded naturally to do it so many times we see in the life of Avraham that he did what the law required he wasn't required to do it he did it because his faith led him let me be so bold to say this when you walk in faith you are naturally the outcome of faith is that you're going to fulfill the righteousness of the law and part of the law is tithing we're not under the law we're not saved by the law but the law is relevant we should study it and apply it to our life under the leadership of the holy spirit and we see here how Melchizedek and there is a new covenant connection between mauki setec and Yeshua the Messiah just read the book of Hebrews especially in the book of Hebrews in chapter five in Chapter seven this same context is given to us so is tithing important yes it is is tithing the the behavior of a follower of Messiah sure our great high priest who came in the order of Melchizedek yes it is so someone that that puts down tithing and says that no longer has significance for believers well they do not know the the revelation of Scripture for the believer today so Avraham it says here that he gave to him that is to mock ascetic a tenth of everything verse 21 and the king of Saddam that is Sodom he said to Avram give me huh nefesh now remember something we saw last week that what was important to Avraham was the people but but what we saw here is that the word here is not for people or of a deem for servants as it was frequently translated in most of the English translations they put it in the plural but it was the word Han nefesh which means the soul and now we find this wicked king of Sodom a wicked place a wicked King and what is he coming for he's coming for the soul now obviously he wants the people but the scripture doesn't say it in that way he is battling for the soul of those people who were delivered and what Avraham understands is this and you must as well there's a battle going on for the soul in this passage of Scripture Malky said 'ok we've already saw that there's a connection between him and Yahshua and likewise we could say that there is a connection between Malik Saddam the king of Sodom and Satan and what do we find that there is a battle for the soul and that is so true today remember what the scripture says that Satan knows his time is short and he's come down to make fear fearless battle because he wants the souls of as many people as he can get why because he does not want them to belong to God through the gospel power of Messiah sure so he wants the soul he says you know you can keep the the property go ahead and take it so he's not interested in the material things the wealth he wants the soul who's that the king of Sodom we need to learn that Satan is willing to pay a lot for the soul of an individual the question is are we are we willing to invest of our tithe in the souls the Eternity of others individuals well that's what our work is about look now at verse 22 and Avram he spoke to the king of Sodom he says I will lift up my hand to the Lord the Most High God the possessor or the purchaser of heavens and earth what we see here is that Avram had a kingdom perspective and he says I will lift up my hand meaning this my allegiance I have taken an oath to the Lord the God the God of Israel the one true God God the Father and that's who his allegiance is not to anyone of this world meaning he's saying to the king of Sodom I don't take orders from you I don't follow your advice I'm not going to fall prey to your deceit and trying to bribe me for the souls of these individuals I obey God now look at verse 23 he says if a thread or a shoelace or a bootstrap however you want to translate it that I should take from all which is of you what he's saying is this I don't want anything to do with you I don't want your wealth I don't want your possessions I don't want your advice I want no connections whatsoever from you now look remember the difference he chose to go there Avraham well he is the submissive one he is obeying God he does not want a Saddam influence in his life so let me ask you a question do you do you want the influence of Sodom and Gomorrah that is unrighteousness and rebellious to be part of your life so he says I will not take anything from you in order that you should not say that I meaning the king of Sodom have made meaning Abraham wealthy he says I don't want you to say that I made Avraham Luffy he said except for one thing what the young people have eaten so when they came back and they restored everything the people were hungry and they ate some of the food that belonged to sodon't Aafrin but some of those others did and he says and the portion of the people which went with me and who was that the same individuals who had a covenant 'el relationship with Abraham on there s goal and mom ray so three individuals are mentioned and he says basically you know I'm not taking anything what the people ate they ate and then there's a portion what is part of the agreement for these three men he's not going to decide for them we each have to make a decision whether we're going to be faithful and choose wisely or choose unwisely and it says they took their portion so they did not follow the example of Avraham sometimes we live in a way we manifest truth we obey God we are a proper testimony a right witness but that doesn't mean that everyone is going to follow that truth it's their decision but the one who is wise he is going to live in a way that he takes souls that he is an influencer for the things of God well chapter 14 a very important chapter for teaching biblical principles about conduct having the right mindset and next week we're going to enter into chapter 15 which is also one of the most significant chapters in the book of
