Genesis Chapter 21 Summary and What God Wants From Us

welcome back to the Bible says what today I am going to summarize Genesis chapter 21 where Isaac was born where Hagar and Ishmael were kicked out of the family and where Abraham made a treaty over a well Abraham and Sarah had a son in their old age and named him Isaac Abraham circumcised the boy when Isaac was eight days old Sarah was very pleased and said everyone who hears this story will be glad and will laugh with her Abraham was 100 years old when Sarah gave birth to their only child Isaac grew and was weaned and Abraham had a big party because this was a special accomplishment but Ishmael made fun of the toddler and mocked him and this made Sarah very angry she didn't like Hagar and Ishmael in the first place and this sent her over the top she demanded that Abraham get rid of the slave woman and her son and said that Ishmael will never share in the inheritance Abraham initially put his foot down and said no but God told him to go ahead and take the advice of his wife because he was going to fulfill the promises through Isaac but then God told Abraham not to worry she was going be kind to Ishmael and make him the father of a large nation also so Abraham packed up food and water and tearfully sent Hagar and Ishmael away to live wherever they chose just not there so they left and wandered in the desert Hagar didn't know where to go after a while their water was gone she gave up and told Ishmael to stay somewhere while she walked away she couldn't bear to see her son die of thirst she cried and the boy Ishmael cried God was gracious though he took notice of their sorrow and sent an angel to comfort them and help them the angel told Hagar not to give up and that God was going to make Ishmael into a great nation then God opened a guards eyes to a spring of water nearby she and the boy drank their fill they decided to live near the water permanently Ishmael grew up and was a good bowhunter Hagar found a wife for him in Egypt and this is how the great Ishmael liked people began a while later Abimelech the king of the land that showed kindness Abraham even after Abraham deceived and lied to him decided to pay him a visit he came with his army commander and sat Abraham down he wanted to make a treaty with Abraham he asked Baberaham never to deceive or lie to him or any of his descendants forever he asked Abraham to show him and his descendants kindness forever what a strange treaty but Abraham agreed and sworn oath to do this one day Abraham went to Abimelech and told the king some of his servants took one of Abraham's wells of water Abimelech was surprised and said he knew nothing about this the king gave back the well to Abraham and made another treaty to put into writing that Abraham owned that well so they renamed the well and surrounding area Beersheba and they parted ways Abraham lived in the land of the Philistines for a long time afterward the most important verse in this chapter is genesis 21:2 which states for Sarah conceived and bare Abraham a son in his old age at the set time of which God had spoken to him God always follows through with his promises and on his timeline the thing I think the Lord wants us to understand after reading this chapter is the fact that God can do anything he wants at anytime he wants God has a plan for each of our lives he had a plan for Isaac and a different plan for Ishmael but both plans were good we should rest assured that if we have unwavering trust in the Lord that he will do great and mighty things on our behalf have you ever heard the word of the Lord like Abraham Sarah or Hagar did God loves you when he wants you to accept his gift to you repent for your sin and turn to Jesus for salvation today so you don't have to pay the price yourself ask the Lord to forgive you and save you he wants to give you his perfection trust that what Jesus did on the cross was to pay for your sin ransom and believe that the father raised Jesus from the dead make the choice to be saved today if thanks for watching if you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up share subscribe see you next time
