Genesis ~ 24:1 to 24:67

chapter 24 Genesis in the beginning we have come to this place where Sara has passed away Abraham with with a guaranteed title to a strip of land and he had been established a supplicant for to bury the dead and so it was but here he is an Isaac's young man now growing up it's time for him to have a wife and Abraham is going to see to that because he's in a strange land and he doesn't want to take a wife among these strangers because the Nephi Liam had intermixed with the Canaanites at this time in part the perizzites the Hittites and he didn't naturally in as much as it was through Isaac that the seed would be called that means that Christ would come it's what it means then she had to be of that family that is to say the wife that he would choose so there's where we pick it up at Genesis chapter 24 verse 1 were to listen from our Father and it reads and Abraham was old and well stricken and age and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things and he certainly had here at a hundred years old he gave him a child verse 2 and Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house that ruled over all that he had put I pray thee thy hand under my thigh this was a custom of swearing by the family that I mean it was irrevocable that it was a and this particular servant of course would be Eleazar as we learn back in chapter 15 verse 2 when he didn't even have a son of Eleazar going to be to inherit everything I have and God of course gave him that Sun so it is not written that this was Eleazar but no doubt it that it is so verse 3 and I will make these swear by the Lord the God of heaven and the god of the earth that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I drill just won't put up with it in as much again as I stated the appeal iam that intermix with the with with the various people the Hittites and the Canaanites and and other people that were there and it would destroy it would it would give Satan the great success that Satan had tried to do in bringing about the flood and even in Eve's downfall in the beginning with Cain bringing Cain into the world no no way is he going to go through that verse for but thou shalt go unto my country and to my kindred kindred and take a wife unto my son I think you've been do that verse 5 and the servant said unto Him peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land must I needs bring thy son again into the land from whence thou camest remember God's promise 6 and Abraham said unto Him beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again under what this is saying under no circumstances will you take my son to that country verse 7 the Lord God of heaven which took me from my father's house and from the land of my kindred and which spake unto me and that swearing to me saying unto thy seed will I give this land he shall send His angel before thee and thou shalt take a wife and to my son from I know that this is God's promise I know God is in it's what Abraham is saying and Abraham had the faith to believe that that the angel reward is going to arrange this where it will come off without a hitch now that's real faith Abraham no doubt had done much praying and seeking and talking to the father about this and and in sending Eleazar he had little doubt that what God would go before him and probably was already giving thanks verse 8 and if the woman will not be willing to follow thee then thou shalt be clear of this my own only bring not my son thither again in other words if if the woman refuses after you have chosen the correct one then from placing your hand on my thigh then that oath is broken and you don't have to worry about it you're free and clear verse 9 and the servant put his hand into the thigh of Abraham his master and swear to him concerning that matter it will be so this was a contract that was just irreversible without unless it met that the content of the contract verse 10 and the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master and departed for all the goods of his master were in his hand and he arose and went to mr. Bertoni ax under the city of nee hoor and so it was here was Abraham's kindred he went back to the land where we would find her in the very beginning and of course in the in a chapter before we learned that that there were twelve of Abraham's brother's children there that and that to choose from verse 11 and he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of and he said verse 12 and he said O Lord God of my master Abraham I pray thee send me good speed this day and show kindness and to my master Abraham I want you to hear his prayer verse 13 behold I stand here by the well of water and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water they're gonna be coming right here 14 and let it come to pass that it happened this way that the damsel to whom I shall say let down thy pitcher I pray thee that I may drink and she shall say drink and I will give thy camels drink also let the same be she that thou hast appointed for my thy servant Isaac and thereby shall I know that thou has showed kindness unto my master and you know that's quite a lot to ask of her father I mean not only that he's going to be here waiting he's not going to go looking for her he's going to wait right there and when the run comes that it should be that's chosen by Almighty God he will ask this question and she will give a specific answer that's asking a lot but that's what he is that's kind of the wish he has placed before Almighty God to have this come to pass to show a kindness that he would know the oath he had already given to Abraham would be fulfilled in this one he would be on the right track you know how he can be so sure he keeps God in the equation do you ever do that when you have to make rough decisions do you just make your own mind up you just go about your way or do you to ask him did you talk to him do you trust him do you have faith in him think about it and this this is why that he was blessed and always blessed this is why Abraham of all the people mentioned in Hebrews chapter 11 in the great faith chapter that we see his name outstanding by the faith he had in the Living God and here even his faithful servant showing forth that training that practice verse 15 to continue and it came to pass before he had done speaking that behold Rebecca came out who was born to bethuel that's to say the dweller in el and God the Son of God the Queen the wife of nee hoor and they were meaning snorting he's quite a horse Abraham's brother with her picture up on her shoulder so here we have a granddaughter of nahor not a brought it forth she wooden air your heart verse 16 and the damsel was very fair to look upon she was beautiful a virgin neither had any man knowing her and she went down to the well and filled her pitcher and came up 17 and the servant ran to meet her although these are runs down path meets her and said let me I pray they drink a little water of thy picture 18 and she said drink my lord and she hasted and let down her pitcher upon her hand and gave him drink now let's see if she completes the the request of God verse 19 and when she had done giving him drink she said I will draw water for thy camels also until they have done drinking she was I mean right there I mean this certified it by the hand of God this is the one this girl this ensnare this captivator has captivated even ole Eleazar and it's annoying for God has really blessed us and how quick it is before I even finished asking here she was and and so it was let's go with the next verse please 20 and she hasted and emptied her pitcher into the trough and read again into the well to draw water and drew for all his camels she didn't just mosey down there she didn't just lazily draw water she ran she was vivacious she was getting it done can-do type person that's who God always chooses somebody that produces fruit can do that's a servant of God but here she is and why would she and sneer why would she not you know giving drawing water in a pitcher for ten camels the way they can put water away she made a lot of trips and she ran all the way verse 21 and the man wandering at her held his peace to wit whither the Lord had made it a journey prosperous or not it would seem definitely so twenty-two and it came to pass as the camels had done drinking that the man took a Golden Earring of half a sec oh wait and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold hey that's pretty nice merchandise I mean that's right down there words that that's that's real nice stuff verse 23 and he said whose daughter art thou tell me I pray thee is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in is there any way you can put us up for the night verse 24 and she said unto him I am the daughter of bethuel the son of Milcah which she bare unto me in other words she's a granddaughter of Nahor Abraham's brother and here this old servant has to know what we've hit paydirt this this is the one 20 because she meets the quality the the qualifications as being family 25 she said moreover unto him we have both straw and prevent probably prevent enough and rooms our lodging we can feed your camels we got a guest room and plenty of food you come on down again the ensnare verse 26 and the man bowed down his head and worshiped the Lord and I don't forget that you know a lot of people when God answers prayer and gives them the approval and everything is okay they go on their merry way enjoying the the victory always take a moment and thank God for success always don't don't forget him he appreciates that it makes his day and people that will do that he can use because he knows they appreciate him you know when when you do something that is a good service to someone and they really take time and woman and thank you for it don't you appreciate that of course you do well so does God so does our Heavenly Father so let that let that sink into your mind it always pays dividends to thank our father always bring him into the equation of your daily life and thank him of success don't forget him then you know I'm going to tell you what happens and maybe that maybe if somebody needs this if you get carried away and overjoyed with the blessings of God and forget to thank him that's a signs of Satan boy this is easy pickins while he's all happy and if I can start sawing the floor right out from under him and Satan will try that you can you can rest assured so always thank the Father and that makes Satan run okay and continuing on then next verse 27 and it reads and he said blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham who had not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth bring I being in the way the Lord led led me to the house of my masters brethren brought me right to the door met the girl fantastic and he's thinking the father 28 and the damsel ran now don't overlook that the the verb here she what she ran so I so vivacious so anxious and told them of her mother's house these things that messenger of the great news she runs and tells and and probably even shows the bracelets and the things that she had been given and and it was good news here from a long-lost relative verse 29 and Rebecca had a brother oh and his name was Laban that Laban in the you tell me white okay like The Cedars of Lebanon means of whiteness and Laban ran out unto the man into the well let's just look over these pretty gifts he'd seen and he had an eye for that sort of thing Laban did and I'm not running him down or anything as just nature verse 30 and it came to pass when he saw the earring and the bracelets upon his sister's hands and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister saying thus spake the men to me that he came that he came into the man and behold he stood by the camels at the well in other words this this grabbed his interest and yeah we've got somebody that's pretty pretty well healed here 31 and he said come in now blessed of the Lord wherefore standest out without for I have prepared the house in the room for the camels it's all set for you you come on in and he might have thought maybe you've got some more bracelets and things in your pocket 32 and the man came into the house and he under did his camels and gave straw and provender for camels and water to wash his feet and the men's feet that were with him I mean taking good care of them here verse 33 and there was set before him to eat but he said I will not eat until I have told mine Arum Aaron and he said speak on now let us know what your what your errand is 34 and he said I am Abraham's servant and naturally they knew who Abraham was that that was their uncle and great-uncle 35 and the Lord had blessed my master greatly and he has become great and he had given him flocks and birds silver and gold and menservants and maidservants and camels and asses he's a rich man 36 and Sarah my Master's wife bear a son to my master when she was old and then to him have he given all that he had I mean Isaac owns it all he and here it's every bit of it Isaac is a very rich man 37 and my master made me swear saying thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land I dwell you just won't do it it won't work won't have it 38 but thou shalt go none to my father's house and to my kindred and take a wife unto my son this is what my mission is is what he's telling him 39 and I said unto my master peradventure the woman will not follow me 40 and he said unto me the Lord before whom I walk will sin his angel with thee and prospered thy way and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred and of my father's house the angel of the Lord gonna guide you I don't in there and it's obvious he had 41 then shalt thou be clear from this diode when thou come us to my kindred and if they'll give not the one thou shalt be clear from my old if they do not give you a wife or my son then just forget it that'll be okay you're out from under the old 42 and I came this day under the well and and said O Lord God of my master Abraham if now thou do prosper in my way which I forty-three behold I stand by the well of water and it shall come to pass that when the virgin coming forth to draw water and and I say to her give me I pray thee a little water of thy pitcher to drink 44 and she shall say to me both dream thou and I will also draw for thy camels let the same be the woman whom the Lord had to point it out for my Master's son let God picked her in other words 45 and behold I had done speaking in mine heart before rather before I had done speaking in my heart behold Rebekah the ensnare came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder and she went down into the well and drew water and I said unto her let me drink I pray thee 46 and she made haste and let down her pitcher from her shoulder and said drink and I will give thy camels drink also so I drank and she made the camels drink also in other words God picked this girl it would be obvious to a believer one that knew verse 47 and I asked her and said whose daughter art thou and she said the daughter of Bethuel knee her son Milka the Queen barren to him and I her name means queen not that she was a queen and I put the earring upon her face and the bracelets on her hands it was obvious this was the one verse 48 and I bowed down my head and worshiped the Lord and blessed the Lord God of my master Abraham which had let me led me in the right way to take him my master brother's daughter and to his son no again this is something you want to always remember share the fact he thanked the father for this have him come to pass that this vivacious little maiden drew water for ten camels and and he himself just as the age of the Lord had said or he had he had asked forty nine and now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master tell me and if not tell me that I may turn to the right hand or to the left I want to know what my next move will be do I are you going to let Rebecca go with me or is it all over if my next move is I'm released 50 and then Laban and Bethulia all answered and said the thing proceeded from the Lord we cannot speak unto the bad or good in other words what can we say it's obvious Almighty God has chosen our sister in our daughter what good would it do for we mere mortals to say anything one way or the other God picked her and this shows faith on their part even 51 behold Rebekah is before thee take her and go and let her be thy masters son's wife as the Lord has spoken and they haven't quite asked the girl yet 52 and it came to pass that when Abraham's servant heard these words he worshiped the Lord bowing himself to the earth again giving thanks always 53 and the servant brought forth jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment and gave them to Rebekah he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things and so it was 54 and they did eat & Greet he and the men that were with him and tarried all night and they rose up in the morning and he said send me away unto my master it's time for me to go 55 and and her brother and her mother said let the damsel abide with us a few days at the least 10 after that she shall go you know in as much as God has done the choosing and as much as God has let us know it's the right thing and that's what he wants you kind of don't want to let man get in the way of God's work you mean to say that again it was obvious beyond a doubt that it was God's will that she go and never never and it's understandable that the mother would I mean this was this daughter was something else she was the ensnare and no doubt her mother loved her and and cared for her and it's just natural she would want to hang on to her just a little bit longer to get the goodbyes and everything said but again don't leave God out of the equation God had done the choosing verse 56 to continue and he said unto them hinder me not seeing the Lord have prospered my way send me away that I may go to my master don't get in God's way it's obvious he is chosen the 58th and 15 which next verse please 57 and they said we will call the damsel inquire at her mouth let's let's ask her 58 and they called Rebecca and said unto her wilt thou go with this man and she said I will go you know it's about time they got around to asking her but the gifts are given and Rebecca's as always she's vivacious she's the ensnare she's ready to go verse 59 and they sent away Rebecca their sister and her nurse and Abraham's servant and his men quite a truth now on the March verse 16 and they blessed Rebecca and said unto her thou art our sister be thou the mother of thousands of millions and let thy seed possessed the gate of those which hate thee and how how would they know because that's exactly what would transpire because through this damsel would come the very seed of isaacs that in which the seed was called that would bring forth the Christ child in that Christ child bringing salvation to the world whereby it was a blessing to the whole world millions billions that would see him know him and accept him in the wonderful things verse 61 and Rebekah arose and her damsels and they rode upon the camels and followed the man and the servant took Rebecca and went his way and so it was there again the caravan is marching 62 and I think came from the way of the well lahar hauled let me say that in the Hebrew the Hakurei which it means the relative of the the well of the Living God and and so it is verse 63 and I think went out to meditate in the field of the Heymann tidied up his eyes and you saw and the camels were coming 64 and Rebecca lifted up her eyes and when she saw Isaac she lighted off the camel it must have been impressed I mean she was as vivacious as she was in all things and sixty-five and four she had said into the servant what man is this that walketh in the field to meet us and the servant has said it is my master therefore she took a veil and covered herself you're doing this and as the custom 66 and the servant told Isaac all things that he had done the success of the trip sixty seven to complete the chapter and I think brought her into his mother Sarah's tent and took Rebecca and she became his wife and he loved her and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death this was the ensnare this is the one that took his heart that repaired it that comforted him and would be the mother of those that would come for in Isaac as it is written the seed would be called for in Isaac would come that strain not not taking a wife of the Canaanites the Hittites the parasites which might have you feel iam mixed within them which would have made void and wiped out all the action of the flood and God's work but has this pure
