what's up guys adam here again and today i'm going to be expounding on a video that i did fairly recently that video really talks a lot about some of the main reasons why your garage door might not be going down and it got quite a response i there was obviously a lot of people that are having this issue and i got quite a few questions from people asking i get that why the garage door is not going down you showed all the reasons why it might not start going down but that's not my problem my problem is that the garage door is going down but it's not going down all the way so i after it stops going down i've got this big gap underneath of the door and it didn't used to do this and now i can't figure out how to get that door going all the way back down again so this video is going to show you exactly what you need to do this happens from time to time where your opener needs to be looked at and oftentimes needs to be adjusted so i'm going to show you exactly how to do that so let's go ahead and jump right in let's go [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right so as you can see this is a pretty big gap i mean this is a hammer handle just to give you a reference for size and this can obviously cause a lot of problems if this is what's happening now even if the garage is coming down all the way and the seal is just barely touching the concrete you're still going to have a lot of problems because you don't truly have a good seal and i don't know if you could tell or not but the motor cut off on the opener and this actually glided down to where it's at now so this literally does leave the door open to in the wintertime super cold air coming in your garage being freezing in the summertime it getting hot and of course this is obviously going to allow for all kinds of bugs and pests like mice and squirrels and you name it just to get into your garage so i'm going to show you a real quick and easy fix to make this problem go away okay so up here on the opener itself you're going to find somewhere on your opener i've almost always seen it over here on the left side you'll see where there's a close limit and an open limit so since it's not closing all the way we're going to want to pay attention to the close limit so what we're going to do you've got if you go clockwise it makes for the limit to decrease which means stay up higher counterclockwise makes it go down further which is the direction that we want it to go and when you're turning these adjustments what you're doing is you're changing the gears inside of the opener itself you're either shortening or lengthening how far it sends that door down or up depending on what you're trying to do before it tells the motor in the opener that it has reached its destination and it doesn't need to travel any further so i'm going to go ahead and start turning this to the left and it's my understanding that for every turn is approximately two inches of movement so i'm gonna go about one and a half turns and see where that puts us okay so it's better it came down all the way but i still noticed that the opener cut off too early and it it glided the rest of the way down you want your garage to come down to where it's stopping the opener is actually stopping supplying power at the point that you actually want it to be fully closed you don't want it to just glide down like that so let's go adjust it a little bit more okay so that was really close so i'm just gonna go ahead and make one more full turn and see if that doesn't put us right where we need to be so it's almost right on now but i am going to adjust it just a little bit because i still heard that opener shut off just just slightly too soon i'm talking i'm just going to turn the adjustment just ever so slightly just to get gum down the rest of the way so i feel like i've got the garage door adjusted to the exact distance that it needs to run in order to close it all the way and compressing that seal that's on the bottom of the garage door you want that seal to be compressed so that it is going to be keeping out all that cold or hot air and bugs and any other pests something else you may really want to consider when you're doing this as well is to check the seal on the bottom of your garage door make sure that it's not worn out if it's worn out it could also be adding to the issue that you're having this seal seems to be fairly good but i can tell where it is starting to wear some so i may be replacing that soon so just another thing to look for when you're taking care of this issue so garage door came down with good force it didn't stop like part of the way down and then glide the rest of the way it came down all the way and basically when it made contact with the concrete itself that's when the opener shut off which is exactly what you want you want that door to come all the way down before that opener shuts off and i just take this screwdriver along here and there's there's just there's no gap there anymore for anything to get in so that's exactly where i want it to be now one other thing to note aside from these adjustments here that we used it may not always be this easy you might not only have to adjust this close limit up here you'll also see where it says open force and close force these two knob adjustments here are going to adjust how much force is put on the door whether it's opening or closing it needs to be set correctly and i didn't notice when i was putting the door down that the force seemed to be an issue it seemed to have a good amount of force the whole way down to the bottom so i didn't really have to mess with it at all but if you notice that it's not getting enough force or maybe it just seems like it's coming down too hard keep in mind you might want to also adjust this along with the closed limits now another thing to note is don't turn these too far if you turn it too far and it goes down too far it's going to make contact with the ground thinking it needs to go further and then it's just going to bounce back up so guys most of the time it's going to come down to that closed limit adjustment like i just showed you it happens from time to time where they just get out of adjustment they need to be looked at and they just need to be readjusted it's a really easy fix as you saw and doesn't really take a whole lot of time now i did also talk about those force adjustments those usually don't come into play when it comes to this particular issue those often come into play with some other issues that you can be having with your garage door so it's rare that that would be the issue on this more than likely it's going to be that close limit that just needs to be re-adjusted so i hope that you found this video to be helpful hopefully it fixed the problem that you were having and if it did please let me know by leaving a comment down in the comment section and of course if you have any questions feel free to shoot them to me down in the comments as well and if you like videos like we did here today then don't forget to like and subscribe and i look forward to seeing you in the next video see ya [Music] you
