What's weird is how much /u/MatPatGT seems to have missed or omitted which supports his theories.

The next game is supposedly called "Hall of The Machine King".

  • The logo for this features a crucifix, and can also be seen as a crown which almost always have a cross on front or top.

  • Arthur's character model, which we see many times, has a massive crucifix design on the front.

  • Many of his "clones" wear crowns.

  • The story so far features a man sacrificing his physical self to transcend into a digital world in order to, seemingly, take over it. To rule.

The symbolism seems fairly on the nose to me.

Edit: Just realised his name is Arthur, as in "King Arthur", the medieval King who sought the Holy Grail.

Yo idea Instead of the dog being the dad, maybe he is the son of the boy. He could of gotten trapped in the future and is going back in the past to kill his dad so he doesn't get trapped.

My thoery: "Duck Season VR" is itself the cursed game that's seemingly connected to the voidway, potentially even using the MythOS interface.

Upon selecting New Game, the game opens with a "theatrical" presentation of how the game came into the hands of David, implying you're already interfaced into a game. You proceed to spawn into a living room as David, but throughout the game you have several "out of body" experiences that implies that David is merely an avatar you control. There are multiple endings, trophies, bonus content, etc that is commonly found in games. The "canon" ending has a similar theatrical presentation as the opener, and the dog ending shows the dog "behind the scenes" like the wizard of oz putting on a performance for you (so I doubt he truly dies in the canon ending).

I think the events in the game are a dramatization of actual events in the past. Maybe someone broke into his house and killed his mom, and he shoots the intruder with a real gun (maybe the one he packs in his bag). Why would he skip town? Maybe the intruder was his estranged father and he couldn't deal with the trauma? So the dog isn't actually David's father, but is playing the role of the father in order to guide you to the truth? Is the dog really a bad guy? If he knows this is just a game and that you can't really die, are his actions truly evil?

Then you have the secret ending in the PC version where the cat cryptid is set free. So assuming this game is played via MythOS, and this is a "Gammon" game...maybe this version of the game was corrupted by the Gammon flashdrive from Boneworks? That flash drive enabled Arthur to break through the Boneworks firewall to access the void, so maybe the cat cryptid was able to likewise use it to break out of the void and into MythOS?
