so this is the followup that you've been waiting for the Galaxy s24 Ultra versus the iPhone 15 Pro Max after the software update so I'm in Brazil right now working on a ton of other camera comparisons but we're going to see if the Galaxy s24 Ultra is better than the iPhone 15 Pro Max at night let's do it if you haven't seen the daytime photos after the updates make sure you check that out after this video so you can get an entire story of how these two cameras perform under all conditions but the nighttime is a little more fun because there are some noticeable differences here again a lot of this is going to depend on personal preference of how you like your photos some people like more saturation or brighter nighttime photos and that is okay so remember that these comparisons are made to help you make the best buying decision if you're about night mode customizations the Galaxy s24 Ultra has a full PR mode where the iPhone stock photo app does not so keep that in mind if you like more manual controls it does go back and forth but you will notice that these phones treat nighttime different generally speaking the iPhone reproduces The Brighter Image overall so if you're into that you're going to lean heavily towards the iPhone 15 Pro Max the Galaxy s24 Ultra really focuses on controlling the harsher highlights like these neon signs so you'll get a more contrasty output on the Galaxy s24 Ultra a lot of times you'll get a more dramatic photo but on the iPhone you'll get more vibrancy not just from the colors but also the whites in particular and I can see a lot of people liking this but that more aggressive metering can really have an advantage when it comes to Neon Signs like this one the s24 ultra really nailed it preserving the flows Cafe sign but it all depends on a scenario in this one the iPhone does a fantastic job of separating that white on the tire sign while maintaining the Reds and the green on the Luigi sign while the s24 Ultras looks amazing as well but it does have a full red tone to the entire image so it will come down to personal preference there are times though where the iPhone does a better job at the Neons 2 so tuning needs to happen on both sides of these devices with future software updates but the Reds I still prefer the iPhones rendition it is less magenta but the Samsung does a better job of keeping that yellow tone out of the for around so that is something to note but overall I like the red color more on the iPhone still at night even though Samsung is improving for instance take a look at here I think the Samsung did a great job here it processed the red well where it maintained that blue color on the side of the sign where the iPhone just blew it out and it was captured white so they both do have their advantages at night in different ways and it really does go back and forth remember when I said the iPhone produces the brighter shot well look at here it's totally the opposite where the iPhone captured the more realistic rendition of this scenario in this portrait shot but then look at here now the Galaxy s24 Ultra capts the more realistic rendition because this street is really dark but again look at the exposure on the lights on the s24 ultra it really gets it right but this was taken when I was walking so they both have motion blur but Samsung showing that oversaturated night sky as seen on many of the pictures but it produces The Brighter Image so it's really a gamble between the two but Samsung still has a little ways to go on this camera here are a few things that I want to see improved I am seeing some access massive noise on some of the shots and while it doesn't happen often it doesn't look good when it does happen take a look at this one that looks really wild so thank goodness this doesn't happen all the time but this needs to be tuned for sure here you can see it too where the light is coming in it's not as drastic but these are challenging light conditions I would also like to see better sky replications in night mode even though the iPhone still has that yellow tone to the sky it's not daytime blue like it is on the Samsung so I would really like to see that improved I switched to the 5x and it's already better so I know it's just a software thing and I would like to see improvements in banding on night mode shots as well while you can see it on the iPhone 2 punching in you can see that it's much worse on the s24 ultra when it happens can you see it it's like wavy Rings or Rippling if you don't know what you're looking at when a starlink satellite launch happened while we were in downtown Disneyland you can see again that saturated sky and also those ripples here or banding so I wanted to show you another example one of the most requested things for me was to do a shutter speed test so here we go watching the Tron ride vehicle go by both of them have motion blur for sure well you can see that the iPhone 15 Pro Max retains more detail of the circular wheel lights of the ride while capturing a sharper background so this quick test goes to the iPhone 15 Pro Max but I had to do a more thorough test of my son at Magic Kingdom I told him to move and jump around and do whatever you want and while both of them aren't capturing clear as expected my son's face is intact here which is impressive on the iPhone and mid jump it actually kept his face relatively clear while the Samsung only got the background there are a few where the Samsung does well like this one on the way down and the iPhone definitely didn't perform well all the time like you can see here in midair they are both pretty blurry but this would be hard for any smartphone I really need to get in the new Huawei P 70 Ultra it supposedly can capture this type of motion so we will test that but the iPhone does prioritize focus on the face and keeps that more clear more consistently so the shutter speed test still goes to the iPhone even after the software updates so a couple more things before we move on to video let's start with the zoom at night here is the 2x on both and they both look similar 5x is next and you can see that the 5x is better in low light on the Galaxy s24 Ultra you can see the iPhone here with more noise and the image is definitely softer and you can really see that when you go into the 10x Zoom the s24 ultra stays crisp and the Pixar Pier lettering is intact where you can start to see the iPhone's image falling apart at maximum Zoom the iPhone is not really usable so stick to the 10x when you're zooming in at night on the iPhone the 30X is not bad at all on the s24 ultra and of course you have that 100x Zoom if you need it on the Samsung but I really wouldn't use this at night here is another example to show you the main lens looks solid on both and then here is the 2x crop which looks great as expected but the Galaxy s24 Ultra still has the 3x lens which I think makes for a more flexible camera system at 5x you can see the larger sensor on the s24 ultra that produces a cleaner shot with less noise so that is the biggest thing that you will know notice you can now see that clearer on the 10x zoom on both you can see that noise creeping in by the Stark industry logo on the iPhone while it's not bad at all on the s24 ultra so it definitely has the advantage on the 5x camera you can also see that advantage on portrait mode as well when it comes to the 5x and I'll show you that in a second the iPhone going colder here on white balance while the Samsung stays warmer and on the 2x portrit you can see how much sharper the iPhone is definitely more sharpening applied there where the s24 ultra has a more SLR type look and like I said before you still have that 3x telephoto lens where you can get 3x portraits at night which is so nice it's still one of my favorite focal links for portraits here is the 5x portrait and the processing is so different between the two the iPhone's detail on the duck is insane but the s24 ultra did have the more accurate colors and reproduction here so let me know which one that you like better in the comment section below this is a really dark area of Disneyland and here's another example of how the s24 ultra handles highlights in comparison to the iPhone it's almost opposite of the neon lights that we saw earlier here is the 5x portrait and they both look super impressive details on both are incredible but you can see the bouquet or background blur is a little different on both for me the big difference is the portrait night mode the iPhone has this on the main camera so you'll get comparable shots on both of them you can even say that the iPhone is a little less sharpened and looks better but switch to the 5x and you lose that on the iPhone so the Samsung while looking air Brushy it looks so much better it caught my wife blinking here though you can really see the difference here on this one the iPhone is really unusable where the s24 ultra looks decent with a nice circular bouquet pattern in the background where I was really surprised is the front-facing camera this is both night mode and the iPhone looks almost better in every way skin tones white balance sharpness and overall tone sometimes the iPhone lands too warm and you get this orange skin effect so you do have that still but the color on the Samsung is not super flattering either even though it's better I was just surprised how much blurring was happening on night mode you can see it on my daughter's face here on the iPhone it decided that my huge face was more important so it blurred out my daughter as the background but the Samsung got it but I do have to say I don't love the skin tone it just looks weird and waxy you can see it here too there is definitely skin smoothing or something happening on the s24 ultra where the iPhone keeps things sharp under night mode now don't get me wrong there were times where the s24 ultra had a sharper shot like this one and that's exactly what I'm used to so that's why I was surprised here is where the iPhone 15 Pro just totally missed my face and that's hard to do but I was seeing better output from the iPhone 15 Pro Max most of the time again look at the skin tone on the s24 ultra that just doesn't look right at all so not sure if the iPhone updated the front-facing camera performance at night but oddly it gets the win here in this round so I will follow back up for sure when the next update drops so stay tuned I wanted to revisit the 24 megapix expert raw mode on the s24 ultra versus the 24 me pix output of the iPhone 15 Pro Max this mode showed a lot of potential on my first camera comparison at launch and it still does there's so much detail and it does have one clear advantage over the iPhone and that is brightness and Shadow detail sometimes it brightens too much by combining that 50 megapixel and 12 megapixel shot at once and that does bring in some unwanted noise but in this shot look at how much more of the background is shown with that extra Shadow information so more tuning on this can be a great addition to the camera experience but I do have to say after inspecting the images and punching in on the 24 megapixel output of the iPhone it has a more pronounced definition and remains clearer and if you look at this scene as a whole it looks great on both but if you take a look at the stone here on the ground after you punch in the iPhone has the upper hand in this scenario also if you look at this photo you can really see how the processing still needs to work on the Samsung but that's okay this is more of an experimental feature at this time so I totally get it I just wanted to mention this as an option so let's end it with video while I was at Disneyland California I thought filming a bit of the World of Color Show would be a good way to show how the video Compares this is 4K 30 frames per second and I'll show you what AK video looks like later but as you can see the iPhone Still Remains the best video on a smartphone minus the little green orbs and light Reflections which I'll get to later the iPhone does remain smoother on frame rate and the noise level is just better controlled overall in this case the extra saturation on the Galaxy s24 Ultra makes this video pop more so if you're a fan of that you might lean towards the Samsung but when it comes to Clarity and detail the iPhone gets it on the main lens but where Samsung wins is on the 5x lens processing aside the noise is much better on the s24 ultra because it has a bigger sensor so if you take a lot of Zoom video at night you might appreciate the Galaxy s24 Ultra more now let's switch it up and here is the walking 4K video at night and you can clearly see the difference the iPhone keeping more detail while remaining clearer with less noise and it's really hard to beat the iPhone at night when it comes to video but those green orbs and light Reflections really hurt the video overall and I cannot wait until they address this somehow in their next iPhone because that's my biggest complaint but when it comes to the quality of the nighttime video the Galaxy s24 Ultra still needs further tuning I had to test the nighttime AK video of course on the s24 ultra and this shows you how good the iPhone video is at night cuz the 4K looks sharper than the AK video on the s24 ultra most of the time which is absolutely wild the iPhone is picking up more of that green yellow tint and Samsung is really going hard in that red tone which makes the video look weird too so let me know which one that you prefer better the noise level still present on the AK video as well on the Samsung so that is something to note but there is definitely a more cinematic quality about the Samsung video here with more depth of feel so that does look nice but when it comes to actual accuracy of the video it's something between the two of these videos combined so I think it'll come down to personal preference while the noise is definitely heavier on the AK video if you look up close look at the detail on the wood on the AK you can see a lot more of the runs and Grain in the wood so that is a big difference so that's good Samsung gives you a high res option at night time so that about does it for me on this update comparison more to come after the next big update drops they both trade blows back and forth and have their strengths and weaknesses but the iPhone really did surprise me here because they must be improving the camera with these updates and not specifically listing the improvements out and you can go watch my first comparison you can definitely see the difference the video winner is no question in my opinion that is clear but this one is harder to call than the daytime but I think Samsung has more work to do if they want to clearly beat the iPhone I think in this round the iPhone looks like the more polished camera so let's see what Samsung continues to do with the updates to come so that does it for this one thanks for watching guys thumbs up for more of these type of videos and I will see you in the next one
