BIT, AND WHEN RAIN RETURNS TO A TOWN NEAR YOU, CHRIS, THANK YOU. NOW TO OUR COMMITMENT 2024 COVERAGE, BRINGING YOU RESULTS FROM RACES ACROSS THE UPSTATE IN THE US HOUSE DISTRICT THREE RACE, LIEUTENANT COLONEL SHERRY BIGGS ROSE TO THE TOP AND SECURED THE NOMINATION TONIGHT. HERE YOU SEE THE RESULTS WITH 98% OF THE PRECINCTS REPORTING BIGGS HAS 51% OF THE VOTE TO MARK BURNS, 49%. INCUMBENT JEFF DUNCAN DID NOT SEEK REELECTION. OUR STEPHANIE TROTTER JOINS US FROM HER WATCH PARTY LOCATION IN ANDERSON. A LOT OF CELEBRATING THERE TONIGHT, RIGHT? STEPH. OH, YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT, CAROL. IN FACT, HER TEAM SAID SHE WENT FROM AN UNKNOWN TO A KNOWN IN JUST A MATTER OF A COUPLE OF WEEKS. DURING THIS HER FIRST RUN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE. THE LIEUTENANT COLONEL FASHIONS HERSELF AN OUTSIDER, BUT SHE IS NOW THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR DISTRICT THREE. FOLKS HERE TONIGHT THEY WERE A BIT ON EDGE, SAYING EVERY VOTE WOULD COUNT, AND IT CERTAINLY WAS A TIGHT RACE. HER TEAM IMPLEMENTED A SHOTGUN APPROACH. THEY CANVASED ALL 11 COUNTIES CAMPAIGNING FROM OCONEE TO SALUDA AND THEY SAID THAT THE CANDIDATE, HER RESUME AND SERVICE TO OTHERS STAND OUT. PEOPLE WANT SOMEONE TO GO TO WORK AND JUST WORK HARD FOR THEM AND REPRESENT THEM WELL. WITH INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONALISM. AND I THINK THAT'S WHY THEY SELECTED ME. YEAH. IN RECENT WEEKS, THE CANDIDATE PICKED UP SEVEN UPSTATE SHERIFFS ENDORSEMENT, AS WELL AS THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL. SHE NEVER ONCE COMPLAINED THAT FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP ENDORSED HER OPPONENT, SAYING THE TWO CAN DEFINITELY WORK TOGETHER IN DC. COME NOVEMBER. AS FOR HER OPPONENT IN TODAY'S RACE, MARK BURNS, FOR THAT, WE GO TO MY COLLEAGUE PEYTON FURTADO PAYTON. I IMAGINE IT WAS QUITE A DIFFERENT REACTION THERE TONIGHT FROM A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. STEPHANIE, YOU CAN BET YOUR BOTTOM DOLLAR IT WAS. YEAH, DIFFERENT REACTION, VERY DIFFERENT MOOD FROM WHAT WE SAW A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. INSTEAD OF CHEERING AND CHANTING, WE SAW PRAYING AND SINGING AS IT BECAME CLEARER AND CLEARER THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT THAT SHERRY BIGGS WOULD BE THE WINNER. NOW, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS CALLED THAT RACE AT ABOUT 915 TONIGHT. BURNS BEAT BIGGS IN THE ORIGINAL PRIMARARY, PULLING IN ABOUT 33%F THE VOTE COMPARED TO BIGGS 29%. THESE RESULTS FLIPPING TONIGHT. BIGGS WITH ABOUT 51, BURNS ABOUT 49%. THIS AFTERNOON WE CAUGHT UP WITH BURNS, WHO TOLD US HE WAS CONFIDENT IN A STRONG VICTORY. WHILE THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN TODAY, HE SAID IT'S IMPORTANT THAT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY STAY UNITED. I'M DISAPPOINTED. I MEAN, WE LEFT EVERYTHING ON THE TABLE AND AND CAMPAIGNED SUPER HARD. BUT THE PEOPLE SPOKEN. SHERRY BIGGS IS THE CHOSEN ONE. SHE GOT MORE VOTES THAN I DID. SO OBVIOUSLY WE NEED TO GET BEHIND THE REPUBLICAN NOMINEE, MAKE SURE THAT SHE WINS. AND OF COURSE, SHE WILL, UM, AND NOT HAVE ANY KIND OF DIVIDE IN OUR, UH, REPUBLICAN PARTY. NOW, BURNS, WHO'S RUN FOR OFFICE THREE TIMES NOW, DIDN'T RULE OUT RUNNING AGAIN. BUT HE SAYS MOVING FORWARD, HIS MAIN FOCUS RIGHT NOW IS SUPPORTING THE FORMER PRESIDENT, DONALD TRUMP, IN HIS RACE TO THE WHITE HOUSE IN EASLEY. I'M PEYTON FURTADO FOR WYFF NEWS FOUR. THANK YOU BOTH. PEOPLE WANT THEIR COUNTY COUNCILMAN TO BE MORE VISIBLE. THEY WANT THEM TO BE MORE HANDS ON WHERE THEY CAN TOUCH THEM, UM, AND BE BETTER CONNECTED AND COMMUNICATE BETTER WITH THEM ON WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON. SO WE'RE GOING TO DO A BETTER JOB OF MEETING WITH THEM, HEARING WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE. I WANT TO GET TO WORK UNTANGLING SOME OF THE MESS THAT THIS TAX HAS PUT US INTO. OBVIOUSLY, TOO, WE NEED TO LOOK AT PRIORITIZING THE ROADS MORE TRANSPARENCY. WOULD LOVE A FORENSIC AUDIT OF THE BUDGET AND SEE WHERE WE CAN CUT THE FAT AND SAVE Y'ALL SOME MONEY ON TAXES AND IMPROVE OUR INFRASTRUCTURE FOR FARMER WILL WILL FACE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE CORINNEE DABADIE FOR THE DISTRIT 22 SEAT IN NOVEMBER.
