hey there viewers welcome back to the south main auto channel that misses those 2019. it's the kia sedona it's got the big 33 and the steering wheel goes like this every time you hit the brakes and it's a chronic problem with this vehicle uh i don't want to say it's mrs zoe's driving but it may be needless to say i'm sick and tired of putting brake rotors on it's about every oil change uh where they're about so we're gonna try something a little different we got on the www.rockauto.com got some high performance minivan brakes cross drilled slotted evolutions and some super high performance carbon fiber ceramic ultra brake pads don't know anything about them never used them before they do say power stop got a lot of propaganda on the label and on the package so we're gonna give them a go and see if it helps reduce the warping of the rotors on the van i think a lot of you folks on the world wide web have uh used or mentioned that you use a lot of rock auto parts [Music] i hardly ever use their brakes once in a blue moon i'll have somebody bring me some uh but generally we get our brake rotors from napper who doesn't sponsor us and neither does the rock auto but uh and typically i don't have a problem with nappa brakes so who knows well maybe down in that comment section you can put your comments if you use these ultra high performance evolution cross drilled slotted vented they got everything they got everything folks oh it's gonna be a pretty easy break job because nothing's gonna be seized up or anything whoa i've gone through as far as even putting new discs on it and checking them with uh yeah run out gauge checking them with a caliper a dial indicator there's the word i'm looking for here's your words fella just to make sure i don't have any like excessive run out in the hub face it's just really bizarre but it sure does seem to go through brake rotors very quickly there's that we're gonna i mean the we'll take the brake caliper bracket here i'm gonna go stick around the wire wheel shouldn't be any rust build up i mean there's still some grease behind there but we'll get them all shined up first the pads i bought come with new hardware and everything it's kind of a shame because i don't know what to do with the rotors you know napper won't take them back it's not like i can just go get my money back as much free advertising as we give them you think they would right but i don't think they will i'm not even gonna try because i'm certain that they won't [Music] i feel like a ding-dong put these on my mini-van my wife's got like pretty high performance sitting at the red light with these babies so we're going to put the screw in there it's missing a screw i don't remember if the i wonder if that screw broke off or not or what the story was with it but um because it doesn't matter you know what i might actually have one of those screws here sweet that's right well lucky lucky there's that not super necessary but it's necessary to remove this sticker you don't want to there look at that hopefully it's not just a complete waste of money i guess i've spent money on dumber stuff too so i wasn't quite sure if we needed the pads to complete the whole high performance package so i thought i'd give it the benefit of the doubt if we're doing this big long-term review here now that i'm doing a long-term review but i'll certainly let you know because within a short period of time we'll know if they're junk like i say the i suspect it might be something to do with the vehicle and the braking system of the vehicle versus the weight of the vehicle because the oem rotors i do believe warped relatively quickly in my opinion of course i don't drive with her all the time but i've driven with her enough to know that she's not like a super hot dog driver you know like 100 to zero at every stoplight i do know that much just just about out of the high performance grease here though although the brake pads did come with multiple packets of power stop grease i don't know what it is but power stop i'll be curious to know your folks experiences with this brand maybe they're awesome i don't know i've got the napa what the adaptive ones are the reactive one rotors and stuff on my pickup truck which are they're not drilled but they are slotted and they've been they've treated me quite well but i'm pretty abusive to the brake system on that thing especially when i'm towing also they have a very specific brake pad break-in uh recommendation here that we're gonna we're gonna give it a go a little different than what we normally do but i'll read it to you here let you know what they say and they seem to be quite specific especially on certain things that i thought was that was quite interesting [Music] so who knows come on baby there we go okay these things slip in there squeal around the inside everything looks good got the caliper bolts got them shined up trying to do everything by the book we're going to give it the benefit of the dough we're using the blue loctite we're going to put them on about 70 foot pounds put the caliper on in the 20 some range 25 i think it was and then i'm doing the brakes all the way around not just the fronts we're gonna do the rears too which i think we've already done a video on this exact van i believe putting brakes on it originally so it won't get too in-depth there but just want to let you guys know we're going full upgrade we'll see how this works out in case somebody else is having the same exact problem i'll let you know was it worth the money spent which i think was about 500 for everything 480 something i think it was with the shipping they had some kits i think i bought the kit for the front or the kit for the back the kit for one way or the other and the other way they didn't offer the kit i had to purchase the parts separately but i made sure to get the same brand pads and rotors so we have a good good test there wasn't a lot of options for the kia minivan in the high performance section if you can believe that i can would that end up at 74.9 then gives you a red light like you did something wrong 78.6 we'll double check this one that one's good 74. perfect wipe off some of the old grease here on the caliper get that out of our way now put a little bit of our siloramic grease on the inside of the caliper ears here supposed to have rubberized shims on the pads that we ordered [Music] we're going to do every measure we can to make sure they're nice and quiet and applying grease to the outside of the shim is one way to do that where it makes any metal to metal contact here always helps i don't know what they put on the rotors or what they do to them to keep them from rusting but i just did the other side and i wiped it all off with brake parts cleaner and there was literally nothing that came off on the rack i thought that was kind of bizarre maybe they should teach nap or a few lessons they seem like they do everything they put grease or you know some kind of coating on them they got this blue stuff they're in a vacuum sealed bag with a desiccant pack and that anti-rust paper and you open all that up and they're rusty so i don't know what's happening there but clearly i don't know maybe this company maybe i just got a good setup can't really form a judgment until you do you know a few thousand of them i think because percentage-wise honestly the nap ones it's probably less than two percent or rusty but it's just kind of frustrating when you get them and they are rusty of course this is a salt belt everything's rusty and the other thing we're going to be mindful of too is putting the brake rotor on or not the brake rotor because that's already on there fella but the wheel when we put the wheel on you know nice even torque we're gonna do that with a torque wrench too don't just whack her down with the ugga dug a gun and that's the best we can do folks the front brakes are all done the rear brakes are all done i went through and made sure everything was you know lubed and torqued properly uh you know the best we could with the tools we have right down to the wheels you know go around torque all the wheels like super even within you know five or six pounds of each nut but you know when there's lube and stuff on the threads you know the clamping force exactly equal well who knows but we did as good a job as anybody could do and now i've got the instructions per the manufacturer and they've got some good information on here uh better than i've seen on most uh brake pads so they write this is the power stop performance for life apparently they have some how-to guides on the internet too it says break-in procedure is critical to brake performance the reason for a proper break-in is to establish an even layer friction material deposited onto the rotors from the brake pads it is very important that the initial layer of friction material is evenly distributed and then they give you their three-step procedure stop one uh let's see it says five moderate to aggressive stops from 40 miles an hour down to 10 in rapid succession without letting the brakes cool and do not come to a complete stop so that's the important part if you are forced to stop complete the stop and either shift the vehicle into park or give room in the front so you can allow the vehicle to roast slightly well at the traffic light and then they don't just end it there they tell you why the rotors would be very hot and holding the brake down the pedal will force the brake pad to contact the rotor and possibly create an imprint on the rotor and this imprint may contribute to the creation of brake judder so it's it's nice of them to actually explain why you know why don't you stop uh because some people may not know uh so yeah so 40 to 10 miles an hour aggressive they want five of those and then step two continue the break-in by completing five moderate stops from 35 to five in rapid succession without letting the brakes cool you should expect to smell some resin as the brakes get hot uh and then number three after this is complete continue to drive the vehicle as long as possible without heating the brakes excessively and without coming to a complete stop try for about five minutes at moderate speed this is the cooling stage after the brakes have cooled to standard operating temperature you may use your brakes normally so there we go we're going to go out 40 to 10 we're going to be aggressive after that we're going to go 35 to 5 moderately and then we're going to go five minutes of cooldown let's get after it so we're going to get her up to 40. aggressive breaking down to 10. get her back up to 40 here [Music] [Music] that's number three [Music] number four [Music] that's number five okay so that's five stops from 40 to 10. now we got to go from 35 to 5 moderately so there's 35 mphs [Music] i'm gonna pull over a couple cars coming behind us but we're not gonna come to a complete stop we're just gonna kind of wheel along here per the instructions let this guy go in there's one more car coming and he's not turning so okay brief interruption there so we'll get back up to 35 here we have four more tries with that moderate braking [Music] i can tell you i can feel that they're getting a little more aggressive [Music] [Music] [Music] all right that's it now we're on step three the cool down let's drive around at moderate speeds right here complete this drive vehicle as long as possible without heating the brakes successfully without coming please stop trying five minutes at moderate speeds all right so that's what we're gonna do drive around be cool [Music] ah [Music] [Music] that's it folks we're back to the shop we followed their procedure as closely as we could with just a little hiccup there after the initial five of gresh that aggressive decelerations but that was it i would say my initial the five aggressive ones uh lots of brake noise and you know you hear a lot going on but you're climbing on that pedal pretty aggressively so um i don't know the moderate ones seem to get better and the brake and the pedal feel you know got way better and then after that cooldown coming back into town here only had to stop just a couple times and the pedal felt you know really good uh it's up there nice and high and you know i didn't hear any of that rumbling and rough noise that we heard initially with the you know the aggressive stops so i don't know if the camera picked any of that up uh but it's the same thing that i've experienced a little bit with some of the napa adaptive one stuff using their adaptive one the reactive one rotors boy the first initial five or six stops during the break end boy it's quite a quite a bit of noise you know quite a aggressive kind of like you know did i do the brake job right type sound i guess for lack of a better term so they have a little different break-in procedure than than these folks here so we'll see time will tell uh if the evolution is an upgrade or not so why don't you guys evolve yourself down into that comment section the questions the comments the concerns well you're down there the nc the facebook you all know what to do and just remember viewers if i can do it you can do it thanks for watching [Music]
