foreign people Mark here and welcome to frigates of the UNSC now this is actually a combination of two videos I've already posted you've probably already seen them both I was given the suggestion by this commenter team dog house thank you for the idea to put the two videos into one and I thought that's a pretty good idea because uh the first one got demonetized because I used a couple too many seconds of the Fall Of Reach movie so I'm gonna go ahead and do this but if you have seen it I would not begrudge you if you just skipped this one because I you know you've already you've already seen the video unless you just want to watch it again I'd appreciate that too I also trimmed some things here and there and I made it a little more streamlined because the videos It's actually kind of old now namely things like the really long audio section in the second video and a couple things that I don't know if YouTube wants me to uh to show here and there in terms of copyright infringement and I've gotten a little better at certain things so uh yeah hope you enjoy foreign [Music] if there were ever a backbone of the UNSC Navy this is it everywhere the United Nations space command makes their presence known you can count on seeing these ships Silhouettes imposing and Matt guns pointed toward the enemy as the first and usually last line of defense for Humanity from the Insurrection to the new Phoenix incident frigates have made up the core of the human Fleet due to their relatively low cost and invaluable contributions in every combat Arena while the three frigates were built following the guidelines of the unsc's standard of frigate design and at a distance are near identical if you don't know what you're looking for there are notable differences to be discussed three known classes of UNSC frigate were fielded during the human Insurrection and throughout the human Covenant War the stalwart class light frigate the Sharon class-like frigate and the Paris class heavy frigate all of which were manufactured by synovial heavy machinery and saw extensive use in both conflicts more so than any other ship type the stalwart class light frigate is the shortest of the three with a length of 478 meters weighing in at .93 metric tons despite their unsuspecting size ships of this class took part in the most critical moments of the war and in many cases were ultimately the key to Humanity's victory the stalwart class will set the tone with its appearance large boxy thrusters attached to an otherwise narrow and long Hull differentiating UNSC frigates from other Navy vessels which usually possess a design centered around a more Central frame with engines directly extruding from the rear requiring a crew of 250 Naval personnel and carrying a complement of up to 200 Marines and 64 orbital drop shock troopers the stalwart class was a powerful air asset and ground assaults with the ability to deploy six d-77tc Pelican dropships 12 M12 warthog all-terrain vehicles six m808 scorpion tanks and 24 so Eve drop pods any UNSC Force covered by a fully stocked stalwart was not wanting for reinforcements the stalwart sportsa starworks FTL 290c series 4 codenshaw fujikawa translate engine and two massive okb Carmen 56k Fusion drives for both maneuvering and travel at sublight speed the drives have two primary thrusters on each wing with two secondary thrusters fitted less extremitously extremitously if something is extremitous it is an extremity you know whatever there's no word for that I just checked but it should be a word it makes sense the stalwarts hull is composed of 60 centimeters of titanium a armor plating and the ship's Armament consisted of 16 m58 Archer missile pods 76 m340a4 streak missile pods six m870 Rampart Point defense guns 52 m710 bullwork Point defense guns and one Mark II light coil 56 a2d4 magnetic accelerator Cannon weapons smaller than many human warships but nothing to scoff at unless you're an average Covenant warship that is as with many UNSC ships the Mac runs nearly the entire length of the ship and unlike the halberd class's Mac battery only houses a single launch rail its lower boom houses the gun itself while the upper boom contains the Fire Control Systems and pulsed power storage external power sources for Macs are necessary much like the power capacitors aboard the halberd so the ship doesn't have to power down every time it fires aside from its weapons the stalwood also possesses one magazine-fed coil gun accelerator Cannon for deploying hell jump Emperor's feet first into battle in Naval Combat the stalwart fills the role of a pesky escort ankle biter nipping at covenant ships and occasionally firing off a full Mack round with a genuine chance of damaging Shields or even Hull providing the lead ship they were escorting was able to follow through and that they managed to avoid Covenant energy projectors and plasma lances which would absolutely skin them in one shot if well placed like many UNSC ships the stalwart is not without its flaws unlike the halberd the bridge of the stalwart is very visible and while it has auxiliary life support systems for emergencies it remains vulnerable if cut off from the rest of the ship either by vacuum breach or fire hazard further the externally attached and exposed engines leave the ship vulnerable to partial neutralization the construction of these flanking engines is such that if one engine is disabled the ship can only direct rear Force out of one side which would send the ship spinning in space and render its mac its primary weapon effectively useless the stalwart isn't the most vulnerable to this but captains of the Sharon and Paris classes were wary I'm sure the placement of those engines could turn a near-miss into a fatal blow these issues however glaring didn't stop the UNSC from producing them in bulk alongside the sharn and Paris classes their versatility and low production cost outweighing their detriments even without said flaws ships like the halberd marathon and other carriers and cruisers were still toyed with by Covenant ships of lower classes rendering any slight flaw and frigate design more or less inconsequential there are multiple known stalwart class-like frigates that took part in battles throughout the war least notable of which being the UNSC stalwart Dawn all that we know about this frigate is that she was present for the Battle of reach and provided air support near New Alexandria on August 23 2552 it was hailed by UNSC Army Sergeant Major Duvall who made the request for cover to facilitate the departure of several civilian Egret space liners from New Alexandria Spaceport carrying hundreds of evacuees the stalwart Dawn was unfortunately unable to respond leading to the destruction of a single transport transport 6 Echo 2 at the hands of a covenant sdv class heavy Corvette the stalwart dawn has not been seen her mentioned since and due to the particular nature of the battle for reach especially around New Alexandria I believe it's safe to say she was likely destroyed the UNSC Meriwether Lewis named after the Explorer famous for the Lewis and Clark expedition is one of the oldest UNSC ships still in service as of October 25 58. its status following cortana's Reclamation is unknown in 2531 this ship was served on by get this Captain Jacob keys not yet Captain when accosted by Covenant borders this ship survived a covenant boarding by the way Keys charged the aliens with nothing but an M6 Magnum sustaining multiple injuries in the form of plasma Burns known to melt infantry armor the man's bravery earned him a medal of honor not the first or last honor for the UNSC to bestow him following the war the ship worked in some capacity to require or Merit a Spartan contingent including then Spartan Commander Edward Buck prior to his transfer to the infinity and then fire Tim Osiris the UNSC Midsummer Night served in multiple battles and operations from 2535 until the end of the war as a modified variant of the stalwart class the midsummer night was equipped with experimental Oni stealth technology and is in the words of vice admiral John mawakizi a long-range stealth ship like a Prowler but she packs more of a punch in 2535 the midsummer night was tasked with enforcing the coal protocol on the far reaches of the outer colonies on a particularly notable Excursion the midsummer night detected a civilian freighter Finnegan's wake drifting out of the ictanus 45 system a boarding party was assembled to ensure the ship's navigational data had been deleted led by get this Lieutenant Jacob key the freighter turned out to be a trap sprung by insurrectionists the boarding party suffered several casualties via planted explosives but the rebels goal to Scuttle the ship with the UNSC Personnel aboard was ultimately thwarted all thanks to the Keen strategic thinking of keys who led the majority of the ODST borders off the ship into safety shortly after this incident Midsummer nightmare was reassigned to assist only operatives in cilion the capital city of charybdis9 which was fun fact the home planet of brohammer the Personnel aboard the ship were tasked with discovering the origin and location of individuals Distributing Covenant weapons to civilian dissidents and insurrectionist sympathizers another civilian freighter named the Kestrel was found to be the supplier to multiple Riot leaders on terribus 9 and after a covenant Fleet appeared in the system said freighter fled Midsummer Night close behind the ships emerged at the rubble and insurrectionist sympathetic human and kigyar micro colony located within the asteroids orbiting hessiod a gas giant after multiple excursions and altercations with both Rebel and kigyar occupants the midsummer night and her crew assisted the rebels when their needles Edge piece with the kigyar was broken eventually facilitating the transport of the human rebels of the rubble to a safer inner Colony Keys continued to serve on this vessel until 2552 when he was transferred to the Iroquois a halberd class light Destroyer to serve as commanding officer yes that is how you say it and finally the most notable stalwart class light frigate needs no introduction responsible for one of the most critical moments in the entire war and instrumental in stopping the firing of Delta Halo in Amber clad as one of the most recognizable names in the entire unscr Mata on February 9th 2547 16 stalwart class late frigates were launched from Naval Shipyard as9 on reach in Amber clad was one of these frigates and following the battles of Arcadia Paris 4 and Iota is the only surviving ship of that line following the destruction of her previous ship the UNSC Hilbert stupid name get this Lieutenant Commander Miranda Keys was assigned to command the ship on April 7 2550. afterwards the ship found her home at Cairo station as a part of the home Fleet and spent the final days of the war in orbit of Earth in October 2552 in Amber clad engaged a fleet of sacred consecration as it arrived at Earth led by the dumbfounded High profit of regret who didn't expect any human presence let alone the single largest human Fleet in history at the end of the battle of Mombasa solemn Penance a Cas class assault carrier housing the prophet attempted to flee via slip space unbeknownst to regret in Amber clad was able to piggyback through the slip space rupture emerging from slip space the crew and compliment found themselves at installation 05 Delta Halo if clad hadn't followed solemn purpose the Covenant would have had unfettered access to the ring and would have eventually sourced a human to activate it thankfully John 117 was present to finally put a slow and painful end of regret while Johnson and Miranda halted the firing of the ring and killed Tartarus afterward it's likely that Johnson and Miranda were shuttled back to Earth aboard the shadow of intent courtesy of their newly converted friend as inambra clad wasn't seen again until it appeared in high charity infected from stem to stern by the flood in Amber clad intended to end its service with a bang but was stopped when Cortana was intercepted by the installation o5 grave mind which presumably prevented her from accessing the ship's systems using its natural Mastery of what's left of the domain or some other weird precursor Powers after rescuing Cortana Chief escaped with the Arbiter using a pelican from inamber-clad's compliment clad's Hulk was likely obliterated alongside the majority of high charity when Master Chief overloaded the station's reactor and activated the new Halo over the ark ending the war in 2552 longer and later than the stalwart class is the Sharon class light frigate with an enlarged Hangar Bay and significantly larger crew and Marine complement of 782 the Sharon class is more suited to deploying infantry and armor for ground assaults than its two sister classes its smaller mask can likely be attributed to its increased cargo capacity with more space allocated to its extendable insertion Bays the ship is powered by a naoto Technology's v4l deuterium Fusion Reactor with two rear extruding engines for maneuvering and FTL is provided by same as the stahler class A series 4 Coden sha fujikawa translate engine the Sharon class shares engine placement with the stalwart only one primary engine per wing with two secondary engines closer to the inhabited portions the Sharon class is a bit of an odd duck with fewer details available for her design for example while the exact ideal compliment and crew are known for the stallart class the crew capacity is simply listed as 782 in Halo Forward Unto Dawn I know that's not just Naval Personnel so some amount of that is presumably Marines and ODSTs the exact amount of vehicles on board is also unclear in game we can see that forces from the UNSC forward under Dawn have deployed at least two d96 tce albatrosses two m313 elephants 7d77 htci Pelicans 3m808c scorpions numerous soe drop pods M12 warthogs and av-14 hornets but when comparing this to the stalwart class I think it's fair to say this was probably not a full complement the presence and apparent use of soe drop pods implies that the Sharon class shares the design detail of a magazine-fed coil gun accelerator Cannon for the deployment of ODSTs the Sharon's main Armament includes a Mark II light coil 83 B6 R3 Mac fitted on the upper boom rather than the lower 50 m58 Archer missile bonds and four rampart-point defense guns one might be tempted to say due to possessing 54 fewer Point defense guns and 42 fewer missile pods that the Armament compared to the stalwart is pathetic and that would be the case were it not for the Sharon's three Hyperion nuclear Delivery Systems giving a fully armed charm class an entirely different role to play on the battlefield when compared to her shorter sister it's unknown if this is the case for all UNSC ships but the Sharon classes weapon system can be accessed and certain weapons fired from outside the hull namely the Hyperion nuclear missiles an interesting feature if there are any members of the Navy or space force in the comments do let me know are there any ships or spacecraft in real life that would reasonably do this I mean I know there's no spacecraft that have nukes on them well I don't know that I hope oh god let's move on in any case the nuclear Armament of the Sharon can at close range be a One-Shot kill for unshielded or unsuspecting Covenant Cruisers or lighter very impressive for a shift of its size there are several notable Sharon class light frigates including of course the lead ship of the class the Sharon about which no details are known the UNSC Aegis fate was a Sharon class present for the Covenant invasion of reach and the Battle of Earth it found its way to the ark during the Battle of installation zero zero and sometime either during or just after the war is known to have deployed the albatross found on the Halo 3 multiplayer map sand trap as well as the two elephants and various human vehicles found there interesting side note this screenshot from the unfortunately canceled game Halo online actually features the Aegis fate hovering above the map just like it does on Sand Trap which I think actually returns in spirit years later in Halo infinite although that is a mulzan class frigate rather than a Charon which we'll cover in part two the UNSC was an ill-fated charm that engaged the fleet of sacred consecration during the Battle of Earth but it was cut clean in half likely by a plasma Lance battle group Victory a fleet of at least seven Sharon class frigates fired at the Forerunner key ship at voy doing predictably nothing and an unidentified charm extracted the final evacuees from algolis in 2549 the members of the Hades Corps demolition Squad who you might remember were responsible for destroying this mech suit thing I'm actually going to do a breakdown on this and a bunch of other mechs in the UNSC so stay tuned and that is the last UNSC aligned charm to mention other than the most famous one which will save for last there are a few sharns who were not UNSC rather Colonial military Authority commissioned two of those being the CMA Arabia and the CMA vostok both a part of battle group 4 and led by a Hillsborough class heavy Destroyer the group was deployed to harvest to investigate the loss of contact with the system's populace there the battle group became the first UNSC Naval forces to encounter the Covenant and both Sharons were lost to a single Covenant razis-class interdictor which was also responsible for the destruction of harvest the bellicose was commissioned as the UNSC bullet Bella belaraphan bellerophon what bellerophon but when commandeered by insurrectionist forces it was renamed probably because nobody can say that three times this Sharon was engaged by then Captain Preston J Cole commanding an unidentified UNSC heavy Destroyer two of three times it escaped and on the final engagement the battle was fought to a draw one of the most impressive uses of asharan or sloppy uses of a heavy Destroyer as there has ever been on March 12 25 26 the bellicose served as the meeting place of various Rebel groups including the Biko Independence Army the Venetian militia the secessionist union the people's occupation of reach the GAO Liberation force and the freedom League of Jericho 7. later the bellicose fought without Allegiance during the Battle of 18 Scorpi in the Battle of Sci serpentus and was captained by interestingly lyrene Castilla Preston Cole's ex-wife The Iliad was another Rebel Sharon and served as the flagship for Colonel Robert Watts former leader of the URF it engaged UNS see forces in 2513 during operation trebuchet over eridanis during the battle it notably ripped a UNSC Cruiser in half by attaching Towing cables and accelerating [Music] thank you finally the most well-known Sharon class frigate is the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn which was for years believed to be the final resting place of the master chief the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn was a part of the seventh fleet which was recalled to Earth in September 2552 to serve in the conglomerate of fleets known as the home Fleet meant to serve as Humanity's last stand against the Covenant during the battle lordhood used the humble ship as his Flagship later committing her to the aforementioned battle group Victory which fired on the Forerunner Dreadnought after failing to damage the key ship the portal to the ark opened and Truth made his way in with his enlarged girohane Fleet shortly after a covenant Cruiser arrived and crashed dispersing the flood into void after the shadow of intent and a portion of the sanghili fleet of Retribution partially glassed Africa to cleanse the flood the elites and humans followed true through the portal with the dawn Now captained by get this Miranda Keys oh bringing along part of the seventh fleet and the previously discussed UNSC August Aegis fate Aegis fate after the Prophet of Truth was neutralized and Miranda was Kia the Dawn was flown by Johnson to the incomplete Halo the entirety of its crew either dead or aboard the shadow of intent or other sanghili ships Johnson parked at a couple kilometers from the control room and after his death and the premature activation of the undesignated Halo Chief and the Arbiter raced to the now abandoned frigate while making their final escape the Dawn was ripped apart by the Shockwave of the Halo collapsing in on itself her bow made it back through the portal and to Earth but it's heavily implied that her Stern Chief within was intercepted by mendicular bias who teleported it to Requiem as attempted to recompense for his past actions his goal could have been to help the librarian reform The Didact he couldn't have known that by then the ER died Act was beyond saving in the Years following the rear half of the Forward Unto Dawn transformed into a strident class frigate for some reason and drifted as a derelict for some time before her distress signal was discovered by Jule mdama's Covenant Remnant faction followed by the infinity after destroying a covenant Cruiser the dawn found its final resting place on the surface of requiem rest easy you deserve it thank you last but certainly not least the Paris class heavy frigate the Paris follows the aesthetic Motif and includes many of the same design features as her sisters externally mounted rear engines on port and starboard externally mounted Bridge Fusion drive for power and propulsion two booms extending from the front to house its Mac and necessary systems the key differences here are the size use and Armament the biggest frigate in the UNSC at the time the Paris class measured in at 535 meters long weighing 1.3 million tons the Paris Sports thicker titanium a battle plate than her forebears and is the most suited of them to engage in Naval Combat the fusion drives on the Paris class also differ with each Wing housing one primary and three secondary engines beside the primary Hangar Bay found on the Keel the Paris can also be docked with via two airlocks on the bridge this allows the bridge crew to move immediately from their stations to any orbital platforms or space stations with ease the Paris glasses Armament is predictably greater than either the stalwart or the Sharons including 165 p8v1 light Mac on its upper boom 26 m58 Archer missile pods 12 m870 rampart-point defense guns 12 m2950 Harpoon nuclear missile silos and three m2475 Shiva nuclear missile silos exact crew and complement numbers have not been disclosed but we know that the Paris housed longswords and Pelicans making it the only UNSC frigate we know to deploy strikecraft while exact numbers aren't known we can assume that the ship's heavy emphasis on Space combat leaves little space on her decks for housing Ground Forces this hasn't hindered the Paris class of becoming one of the most effective UNSC ships to Grace the field able to hold its own against Covenant battle Cruisers and Corvettes for extended periods with varying results interestingly a few UNSC formations centered around the Paris class have been described by Halo Fleet battles Arrowhead formation three Paris class frigates focusing on use of their Mac Weaponry over missile armaments we can assume that this formation places a lot of weight on distance you wouldn't want to employ this at close range or else you'd constantly have to swing all of the ships around to aim the massive guns and stay in formation while doing it Shield formation four Paris is intended for defensive work I'm imagining the parasis would be more static here if defending a position they'd probably still emphasize Max until an enemy came close only breaking formation for evasive maneuvers and once any enemies got close switching to missiles Trident formation three Paris frigates balancing Mac and missile armaments evenly now this is the most versatile formation and probably the one most employed or swapped to everyone's got a formation until you get plasma last in the face so to speak the shield wall battle group would be a combination of three Paris class Shield formations arranged to maximize Mac efficiency the the harpy specialist battle group employs three Arrowhead and three Trident formations a total of 18 parises meant to overwhelm single Covenant Capital ships other than that I could see this battle group being used in case of an engagement with a more spread out enemy battle group either using missiles to intercept rapidly approaching targets or maybe funneling them into the path of the mech the Paris was also favored for support rules in multiple formations the Cyclops specialist battle group formation saw one Marathon class cruiser modified to work as a strikecraft carrier supported by nine Paris class frigates in Trident formation I imagine even a large Covenant Ship would be a bit intimidated if they saw this pop out of impulse The Barrage specialist battle group employs two marathons each supported by two parises forming a multi-role formation lastly the Gorgon specialist battle group paired two marathons supported by one Paris each and backed up by two Trident formations there were many many many named or notable Paris class heavy frigates deployed throughout the war the Paris herself was a part of the home Fleet during the Battle of Earth her current status was unknown but she was one of the few ships able to follow in Amber clad and solemn Penance to installation 05. the androst is a Paris class that makes no appearances but is featured in the Halo encyclopedia with the hull code k201 the Commonwealth commanded by Captain Wallace was a Paris attacked by the unrelenting a covenant xanar class cruiser while transporting Dr Catherine Halsey and the burgeoning Spartan twos to the Damascus testing facility on chasetti 4 where they would for the first time test their new mjolnir armor systems which would later become the very face of the Spartan program The Commonwealth was able to fend her off long enough to get her passengers to the surface after receiving their mark IV mjolnir for the first time blue team was able to board the cruiser and destroy it from the inside saving the Commonwealth and allowing it to fight another day although sustaining heavy damage including a crippled Communication System shaved armor plating an overloaded ship AI memory core a leak in the port fuel tank deck 13's entire destruction its Mac taken offline nearly zero percent Hull Integrity fires in sections 1 to 20 its Port armor plating completely destroyed and an extreme reduction in reactor efficiency it's an absolute Miracle this thing survived afterward the Commonwealth was presumably repaired and probably continued to serve in the war before she was decommissioned and scrapped sometime before August 2552 when on reach at the Azad ship breaking yards Noble four and Noble Six fought through her Hulk to deliver Cortana to the pillar of autumn the UNSC Grafton and the UNSC Saratoga where both Paris class frigates that provided air support for UNSC Ground Forces during the Battle of zerdoc Ridge on August 12 2552 Grafton famous for its unprecedented authorization to fire in atmosphere one way to get their attention hang on was sadly destroyed directly after by the long night of Solus a covenant CSO class super carrier which I wish didn't have such a cool name which served as the harbinger of a much larger Fleet led by then Supreme Commander thelvatimi the Saratoga narrowly escaped in its activities afterward are unknown the UNSC Savannah probably the most notable Paris class was another that took part in the fighting at reach she sacrificed her slip space drive to be used as a makeshift bomb in an offensive action undertaken alongside a squadron of Sabers a highly classified experimental fighter craft the drive would be carried onto a nearby sdv class Covenant Corvette which once boarded and captured would serve as the delivery device once the boarding party was inserted the frigate made the mistake of remaining engaged with the Corvette leading to continued damage Colonel Holland gave the order to disengage far too late and the Savannah was destroyed oopsies happen once the Corvette was in position george052 manually detonated the drive destroying the CSO class super carrier the Savannah had completed her mission to what measure of success we all know the answer him Covenants [Music] the UNSC Gettysburg served a critical role in the final year of the war on July 17 2552 the Gettysburg responded to a distress call from get this then Commander Jacob key of the Iroquois halberd class light destroyer in the sigma Tanis system joining the Iroquois only after the keys Loop the frigate among other ships formed battle group Leviathan and successfully repelled Covenant forces in the Battle of Sigma octanus IV afterward the ship returned to reach where it was badly damaged in the ensuing battle it was quote gutted from stem to stern when a covenant energy projector obliterated the bridge and life support systems all was not lost though for the Paris class frigate when the survivors of installation 04 managed to board and capture the ascendant Justice a Ruma pattern light carrier which they used to return to reach after discovering the high profit of truth's massive Fleet on route to earth when they arrived Cortana informed the crew that the ascendant Justice was in need of an extra power source to make faster slip space jumps and warn Earth of the coming threat after they rendezvous vice admiral Danforth Whitcomb of the UNSC forces left on reach they eventually found the heavily damaged Gettysburg its Mac and power generation still functioning the UNSC forces prepared the Gettysburg long enough to be habitable and attached the ship to the ascendant Justice forming the first ever human Covenant hybrid ship the Gettysburg ascendant Justice awesome Halsey used the Gettysburg's flash cloning facilities to treat the team while they replaced the Bridge's shattered windows with armored plates and placed monitors on them inside to make the bridge usable again a setup which honestly should be more common anyway wanna give them more windows to through well maybe I will maybe then someone might appreciate the Aesthetics in order to buy time for Earth operation First Strike was initiated with Spirit dropships reinforced by armor from the Gettysburg's Hull blue team boarded the unyielding hierophant a mobile repair and refit station after losing Grace the team set the station's reactors to overload destroying it slowing the fleet's plans but not enough to stop their Advance while all this occurred the Gettysburg was separated by the ascendant Justice which moved into the outer reaches of the system to perform reconnaissance upon realizing the fleet was still fully capable of moving on Earth the ascended Justice piloted by vice admiral whitforth and Elias haverson lured Covenant ships closer to the unyielding hierophant twelve Covenant warships were caught in the blast as well as the ascendant Justice and the two officers however the ascendant Justice's slipspace Drive had been removed and placed into the Gettysburg and Cortana initiated a random jump in accordance with the coal protocol and promptly returned to Earth there the Gettysburg docked at the Borneo space tether and Fred and Linda informed Oni of the coming threat the UNSC promise of Dawn was present for the Battle of reach in some capacity and was the when Oni received a distress call from the Covenant Planet sefun III she'd crashed there and her survivors had set up a makeshift settlement which was destroyed by Jewel mdama also on the planet wanted scientist Dr Chen Bax was in possession of Gabriella and wasn't keen on handing her over due to the sensitive nature of the situation linda058 was dispatched alone to recover the AI and eliminate the doctor whom Oni considered to be a liability Linda found that Chen had become disillusioned with Oni and was outwardly hostile to Linda when she arrived along with his loyal band of fellow survivors once the Covenant Remnant began to move toward the settlement and his occupants Chen implored Linda to save them and detonated the reactor of the promise of dawn the explosion triggered an avalanche that white wiped out a large portion of the Covenant Ground Forces allowing his followers to escape with the Spartan the Cascadia was deployed to the planet Cleo in 2556 after the planet was glassed by a covenant Remnant faction commanded by Captain French and his massive head their mission was search and rescue the Cascadia carried with her Marines ODSTs and the Army's 412th engineering Command Sergeant Hali Tanaka was among the group of ODSTs and Marines deployed via Pelican to rescue survivors after engaging and dispatching a group of kigura scavengers they transported the civilians to safety aboard the Cascadia there were several frigates that must have been one of these three due to their appearance in the timeline however were not adequately described in the sources they appear in FFG 427 and FFG 502 are frigates that participated in the defense of Concord in 2551 and that is all that is known about them the UNSC Allegiance and the UNSC Fair weathers are described as frigates in the fall of reach novel they arrived alongside the Gettysburg in response to Keys's distress signal reinforcing the Iroquois and later participating in the Battle of Sigma octanus IV the fair weather was destroyed when it collided with a covenant Destroyer but with its missiles made sure its attacker also did not survive the engagement the UNSC purpose is referred to as a frigate by Halsey in her journal it fought at the human Colony Bliss alongside two Cruisers the UNSC weeping willows and matador against a covenant Fleet of 45 warships needless to say they did not come out Victorious the UNSC again Court was a frigate sent to the Forerunner Shield World Onyx to deliver supplies to Camp kurahee a top-secret UNSC military base that served as the training facility to Alpha Beta and M gamma company all of gamma company including mark gamma Company Mark subscribe as it was leaving the agon court was requested to investigate unusual noises from Zone 67 of Onyx there the ship was attacked by the recently reactivated Onyx Sentinels and subsequently destroyed the UNSC Swift Justice was described as long and blocky with a bifurcated bow and a squat Command Deck atop its back which I mean the ship didn't really do anything notable it just existed and deployed troops to investigate an abandoned UNSC passenger ship in September 2517 the UNSC journeyman was deployed to escort the UNSC Dartmouth but before they reached their charge the Dartmouth was captured by insurrectionist forces the UNSC Ready or Not Cool name was a frigate in service in 2535 and while patrolling encountered the UNSC midsummer night remember the midsummer night from earlier along with the insurrectionist survivors following the Battle of the rubble the UNSC tannenberg was active in 2535 and assisted the UNSC circumference a Prowler in the search for Kurt 051 who had gone missing in the area the search was fruitless and due to Covenant presence had to be called off and finally the UNSC tripping light was a frigate of unknown classification and following taking extensive damage during a battle in 2547 its slip space Drive was scheduled to be dismantled Halsey however had a different plan in mind for the drive she chose it for her unsanctioned private testing with an experiment to create create an abstract fractal within slip space for housing AI whatever the hell that means and that is every class of frigate up until 2552 and ship of the line ever mentioned in the Halo expanded universe now my thoughts I like them I mean who doesn't like UNSC frigates they're the first thing I think of when I think of the UNSC even if they're not my favorite ship I saw a comment asking about the exposed bridges on UNSC ships specifically they were talking about the halberd but it's especially egregious on these I'm somewhat inclined to agree because Starships don't need Bridges they really don't there's a reason why real life spacecraft mostly use sensors and radar to navigate as well as earth-based sensors really the Rockets we use are extremely dependent on ground-based navigation but still it's 2552 if you're really so inclined to see outside you could use cameras as they did on board the Gettysburg but on the other hand I think it sort of makes sense for the bridge to be exposed these ships are really skeletal they are the epitome of puts in propulsion on a gun designed for loss philosophy that the UNSC likes there's really nothing on these ships that isn't absolutely necessary which leaves a lot of empty looking space on it especially when compared to something like the marathon class a big spinning pillar of battle plate I think these ships might just be small enough that the exposed Bridge is a negligible issue I'm interested to see what you all think in the comments post-war the frigates of the UNSC are totally different to the point where I'm doing a part two just to emphasize those differences only the Mozan Humanity found itself in a strange place thanks to the splintering of the Covenant they have the largest remaining Navy and Military and the most territory of any faction thanks to their wide-ranging skill set they've reverse engineered Covenant and Forerunner technology to create ships greater than many fielded even by their now defeated alien enemy but they have next to no allies and distrust is rampant within their own borders to re-establish order and ensure the enemies of humanity are held at Bay the UNSC needed new weapons to keep up with their alien assailants these were those weapons [Music] hey people Mark here and welcome to another batch of ship breakdowns this one was interesting these post-warships are very different for Humanity I know the 343 era of ships is divisive but I think they did a good job differentiating them with the previous group these frigates really do feel more advanced than the previous set I love the human Covenant War era ships don't get me wrong but just looking at the newer ships and all the details we know about them you just get the impression they would absolutely body the Old Guard as always I hope you like it and if you do hitting the encyclopedia here we go to refrain from straying from Our Roots too soon let's start with the newest ship to be unveiled the only frigate to keep the classic design following the end of the human Covenant War the mulsan class light frigate might look familiar but like all post-war frigates is an entirely different Beast the mulson superficially retains the older design philosophy but on closer inspection you'll find the engines are not affixed to the wings an improvement on what I said in part one is I believe a massive design flaw in the older frigates instead of working as Wings these plates now simply take the role of spaced armor now this is my own hypothesis of what these are the encyclopedia sheds no light on it spaced armor was an innovation of the mid-19th century the idea being that thin supplementary armor pieces with space in between could achieve satisfactory results rather than having to forge or machine entire new armor plates The Hope was that projectiles once they impact or penetrate the spaced armor would deform tumble deflector disintegrate spaced armor has been used on warships tactical machinery and mostly tanks but it has actually appeared in real life on spacecraft in the form of a Whipple Shield Whipple Shields are armor pieces made of layers of fabric to protect occupants and systems from micro meteors moving in high speeds it's not meant to totally stop an object but to at least break it or slow it down sort of like a gambeson for spaceships getting back on track that is what I assume these armor plates are for aside from keeping with the old style as we'll see later in the video the UNSC is not sentimental when it comes to looks I'm not sure the value of spaced armor when it comes to plasma I don't have enough physics knowledge to understand or begin to research the effects of superheated liquid splashing in space but if these shots from the fall of reach are any indication plasma Torpedoes themselves quite easily punch through the comparatively flimsy armor of a Paris class frigate so I could see any extra armor being a plus as did the UNSC with the Autumn and Marathon class Cruisers which also incorporate armor around the engines these big plates are also notably only protecting the engines and the habitable areas around those um almost as if a certain ship type was vulnerable to engine damage in the past further the externally attached and exposed engines leave the ship vulnerable to partial neutralization the construction of these flanking engines is such that if one engine is disabled the ship can only direct rear Force out of one side which would send the ship spinning in space and render its mac its primary weapon effectively useless the engines themselves extrude directly from the rear with two large primary engines two smaller secondary engines are affixed below them with a third pair of tertiary engines next to them the mulsan is noticeably more compact than any of the previous frigates with its Bridge much less protruding and lacking any of the Keel hangers of the stalwart Charn and Paris classes known numbers have been given on the crew in complement but a lack of any deployment Bays or hanger leads me to believe it has no infantry or ground armor on board and its size would very much make it a surprise if it carried strike crafter Pelicans if the hiragack liberated from the Covenant during the war have been consulted I wouldn't be surprised if the typical 250 Sailors required to operate warships has been trimmed down significantly in fact for a ship of this size I estimate that at most a couple dozen hands are required to operate it even from a tonnage perspective the mulsana appears to come up short measuring in at 456 meters and weighing a measly 0.9 million tons the mosan is shorter and lighter than any of the wartime frigates but employs some of the most novel weapon systems of the post-war Navy the mulsan class has effectively taken the Paris class heavy frigates role in the fleet which might be jarring at first glance of the ship's size and even more so its Armament as opposed to the Paris class's magnetic accelerator Cannon three Shiva nuclear missile silos 12 Harpoon nuclear missile silos 12-point defense guns and 26 Archer missile pods the mulsan employs only 20 m58 Archer missile pods and 12 m870 rampart-point defense guns what's going on here will the key game changer here is the mulsan's massive bright Lance compound reflex laser why is this such a big deal well to explain that I'll have to get into the details behind why Max and lasers are different I have a much longer video on the topic of energy weapons plan so I'll be as brief as I can do keep in mind I am not a physicist nor am I an autodidact magnetic accelerator cannons are massive coil guns or Goss rifles how how it works is a ferromagnetic projectile in the unsc's case either ferric tungsten or depleted uranium is pulled by multiple electromagnets in sequence deactivating as the next activates pulling the slug down the barrel and accelerating it as it goes they exist in real life but are either unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you want to look at it much less potent than the ones we see in Halo at least for now this system allows for extremely high velocity projectiles to be hurled across vast distances the numbers vary by the Mac but the super max orbiting reach according to the Fall Of Reach novel could Fire 3 000 ton projectiles at .04 percent the speed of light now that is very fast and very powerful contrasting this with lasers the immediate difference is obvious the velocity of a laser if you could call it that is as close to instant as you can get you probably already know this but laser beams move at the speed of light which is as fast as a something can go this immediately gives them greater operational range and depending on how you utilize laser systems you can get a variety of results the one that probably comes to mind immediately is the CW or continuous wave laser these are lasers that emit a constant uninterrupted Beam with a stable output power when contact with a Target is maintained heat damage does the work rather than the brute force of a kinetic weapon like a Mac these are seen all over sci-fi Covenant energy projectors any classic Sci-fi laser here you can see a United States Navy vessel shooting down an unmanned craft with a laser I think this laser is continuous wave post lasers are my personal favorite and they work a little differently basically a pulse laser is only on in pulses that is to say it's only firing the laser in intervals this results in mechanical shock due to repeated short bursts of extremely hot conditions like a speed of light Jackhammer made of photons while also keeping heat generation and power consumption minimal there are differences in effect based on how long your pulses are shorter pulses and longer off periods allow for both the weapon and the target to cool resulting in a more precise drilling effect longer pulses cause a heating effect more akin to continuous wave lasers with the power saving benefit of being off half the time but still applying that drilling effect I assume based on how the bright Lance fires it is either one huge pulse laser or a huge array of small pulse lasers because it behaves most similarly to real-life pulse lasers that only fire for a fraction of a second like this 13 kilojoule laser made by the brilliant styro Pyro foreign if you haven't seen his channel check it out he is an absolute psychopath it's in the description is he doing now foreign [Music] as I said all the real life examples of extremely high energy pulsed lasers I can find only fire for a fraction of a second because of the ludicrous amount of energy they take but using my ever so fallible human eyes and some video editing software I deduced that the bright Lance Fires for about 1.14 seconds of pulse so smarter people than me can work out what that would do to something while I will simply state that a laser the size of the bright Lance with the power generation and storage technology of the UNSC that would definitely do some damage more than a Mac hard to say we can't know how well these work in Universe until we see a bright Lance hit a Target that's more than a Skybox decoration but I will say I have my doubts there is definitely the benefit of range between a super Mac and a bright Lance the bright Lance is going to hit its Target 287 million 800 759.7 meters per second faster than the mac and Macs are generally listed to have a range of 10 000 miles or about 16 000 kilometers that's not to say the projectile slows in a vacuum just that at distances beyond that it's pointless to try and hit a Target that can effectively Dodge future editing Mark here adding in that this is also probably why it only shoots one pulse instead of a continuous wave or many pulses because at long distances it's really hard to keep a laser steady not to mention that Jitter is a thing that exists in the universe like everything that is moving is not moving in a straight line there's nothing in the universe that moves in a perfectly linear Direction even light bends through space it's called diffraction light does not move in a perfectly straight line but at 10 000 miles you can definitely move out of the way of a laser beam once you deduce what trajectory it's coming from and in combat when things are moving really fast there's obviously not a lot of time to keep burning away at one precise location for a pulse laser that's firing many pulses or a continuous wave laser to be doing that it's just it's just not feasible again it could be worth the change hard to say I will say it takes considerably more energy to make a lay laser that can Pierce armor than a kinetic weapon that flings a piece of metal but will gonna do it when we talk more in depth about laser weapons at a later date back on topic most notable ships of the mulsan class there's the UNSC mulsan of course the lead ship of the class the UNSC Panama was a Multan active sometime after 2553 we know of two engagements that the Panama took part in on an unknown Planet an unidentified class of Covenant assault carrier named purveyor of virtue affiliated with an unidentified faction targeted a UNSC Fuel and power processing station the Panama alone is obviously no match for a covenant assault carrier but being so close to the apparent capture Target the carrier refused to fire back for fear of damaging the base last we've seen of these two ships they were locked in a stalemate the Panama at an earlier or later date took part in an offensive action against the banished deploying Spartan teams to the surface of an unknown world to disable a banished Gore Spike cannon at least six multan-class frigates were present during the Battle of Zeta Halo between the in a c and the banished the most notable both of this battle group and of this class is easily the UNSC mortal reverie after the fall of the infinity her escorts didn't last long in the fight The Mortal reverie was shot down and crashed on the ring damaging it Beyond reasonable repair three days later the reverie's wreckage was converted into a UNSC base of operations what am I looking at friggin mulson class Hall identification reads mortal reverie if we're gonna make any noise on this ring we need a base of operations speak to hell but it's shelter defensible location no sign of banished activity yeah this could work any Spartans and comms range Spartan Griffin is in range but his signal is diminishing rapidly I'll keep it brief open up a channel I think we found our Rendezvous point in stark contrast with the mulsan the and Lace class light frigate is a complete departure not just from UNSC frigate design but from the entire UNSC ship design philosophy it looks operates and fights in a totally unique manner among human ships as a part of aerofabri's return to manufacturing spacecraft for the ueg this strange little ship is the smallest frigate ever fielded by Humanity the analyst measures in at a meager 372 meters and weighs 0.9 million tons that is quite small only 31 meters or about a hundred feet longer than the longest UNSC Corvette it's even more jarring when you compare it to the smallest Covenant Corvette the Macar pattern which measures in at 485 meters 113 meters longer than the anlace class frigate alongside the strident class hundreds of these were manufactured in shipyards orbiting Mars and tribute to compensate for the heavy losses accrued toward the end of the war the ship is by far the smallest frigate but does have its specializations focusing on fleet support as such is probably rare for the ship to have to engage in Direct ship to ship combat still utilizing titanium a armor plate the Analise is highly modular and allows for the optional addition of an electronic warfare Suite a nuisance for enemy Communications and radar I imagine this was only possible after making use of hard-won knowledge of Covenant computer systems gained during the war these Suites can also be used as effective cloaking devices able to mask the presence of friendly ships or inhibit or intercept comms between enemies most impressively two and laces equipped with an electronic warfare Suite working in tandem are able to project a jamming blanket over an entire planet effectively shutting down an entire system the most powerful aspect of the analyst class in my opinion is its high definition sensors these powerful Little Ships are able to accurately detect any object larger than a warthog up to 10 light minutes away that's 111 million 800 000 miles to try and help comprehend this here's a picture of Earth from 40 million miles away and Earth is about 46 trillion 300 172 billion 727 million times larger than a warthog so yeah that's pretty impressive you would be hard-pressed to sneak up on a fleet with these ships included unless you were to be in slip space while doing it in which case you would also not be able to accurately detect a fleet you're jumping into the anlace is the only UNSC frigate to have an internal bridge I think there's a bridge on this concept image but the official art placed this here instead which we will get into in a moment this internal Bridge fixes what is possibly the greatest design flaw of the entire UNSC Navy a Reliance on seeing outside there are no windows to expose the captain and the entire Bridge crew meaning the ship is significantly better armored even if the armor per square foot isn't that much greater if this frigates differences weren't Stark enough the Armament of the Ann lace class is the most unique the UNSC has ever deployed unlike any other UNSC ship the anlace class is completely devoid of kinetic weapons and unlike any other energy-based chips in Halo it has no plasma based Weaponry either the entire higher Armament of this class consists of lasers of differing types the main gun of the analyzes a Helios Capital scale high energy laser unlike a Mac or the bright Lance the laser is turreted and can pivot independent of the ship's orientation this is a huge Advantage as other frigates including the mulsan and strident class would have to turn and face their main gun away from the enemy if they wanted to retreat the analyst can fire most of its Armament and its main gun while changing position four Magna 320 Capital scale pulse lasers also Adorn the ship as well as 8 and SEC 11 Point defense laser arrays the pulse lasers also being categorized as capital scale implies that the size or power of the laser is at least comparable to the Helios the analysis laser-based Armament Works especially well thanks to its highly accurate long-range sensors this would allow the ship to utilize the effective range of what I can only assume are extremely powerful long-range weapons to weaken enemy Shields long before they're within Striking Distance to the rest of the battle group since the Analise is not necessarily meant to engage as a Frontline battened I wouldn't be surprised if it was being used as a test bed for these energy-based weapon setups and due to its unprecedented role in the fleet having an unconventional Arsenal isn't so strange I suppose the only known named ship of this class is the UNSC analyst the lead ship of which we know nothing about we do know however that anlace class frigates are Deployable from the UNSC infiniti's cat 8 sub vessel deployment base we never see one deploy but we do see two and laces escorting the UNSC Infinity in the Halo 5 loading screen or main menu these could be some analyst class Infinity Sub vessels but they could also be normal escorts thank you aside from the infinity one other ship has taken the spotlight of the post where you in a sea Fleet the strident class heavy frigate is one of the most powerful ships the UNSC has ever manufactured it alongside the infinity Autumn Poseidon and Vindication class warships are evidence that the UNSC is approaching a level of technology that Humanity hasn't seen in over a hundred thousand years also manufactured by aerofabrique production began just before the end of the war in 2549 this ship represents some of the greatest innovation in the human Naval industry measuring in at 575 meters and weighing in at 1.1 million metric tons the strident is easily the largest UNSC frigate and represents the new Apex of frigate design despite its size the attack escort role of the strident class is more akin to the light frigates of the past being more versatile and able to support ground assaults more effectively than the Anne lacer mulson class frigates also betraying its size the required crew of the strident class is significantly lower than previous heavy frigates requiring only 100 190 Sailors the ship Incorporated quality of life and ease of use improvements acquired through reverse engineering by human scientists and likely suggestions from Oni acquired hiragox during the human Covenant War Humanity's dominance in the ground arena is most likely what led to the role that frigates now occupy as the focus of the UNSC Navy with ships like the stalwart and Sharon classes in multiple instances rising to the occasion and culminating in a human Victory however despite those ships heavy ground support utility the strident incorporates only one Pelican Dropship Bay with external Hull clamps that can facilitate up to three more Pelicans furthermore the strident is not usually known to carry expeditionary troops in the form of Marines with the exception of orbital drop shot Troopers and the soeve droppod deployment Bays needed to insert them properly I'm looking at you Marines on a pelican and the arc cutscene get off your ass and jump out interestingly deployment base for of-92 booster frames are also included on the strident Class A heavily armed single pilot Space Fighter usually reserved for deployment on board Prowlers by Spartans this was an addition I could see being made after witnessing time and time again the effectiveness of Spartan boarding parties from the very beginning to the very end of the war the engines of the strident class also directly protrude from the rear of the ship also utilizing spaced armor plates to protect them from plasma fire the strident is still armored with the unsc's signature titanium armor plating but for the first time among any human ship is able to be outfitted with energy shielding while the Lays in the mass production of the ships in the aftermath of the war have prevented the majority of stridents from utilizing this function small generators are standard issue for sealing air locks and Hangers channels for wave guides and base sockets for emitters are installed making final integration of the main Shield generators a straightforward process once they're made available the bridge of the strident includes a state-of-the-art combat management system and a data core able to store smart AI the AI and automated systems handle Target detection threat evaluation tracking and calculation of firing Solutions but Target priority and weapon release authorization is still in the hands of the crew most likely unless direct orders are given to an AI to fire at will you have the mech gun Cortana as soon as they come in range open up gladly which brings me seamlessly to the greatest strength of the strident class frigate as a bit of a return to form the strident has no energy weapons the ship stays to the tried and true methods of ship combat supplemented by new technology that only improve the effective strategies that the UNSC had grown used to the strident class is the only post where frigate to have a magnetic accelerator Cannon bringing back the bifurcated frame of old the ship's mark IV heavy coil 94 B1 E6 Mac is A Cut Above the Paris classes 65 p8 V1 light Mac which we know can in Two Shots break the shields of Covenant light Cruisers and punch straight through the hull this gun brings the strident dangerously close in my opinion to the designation of Destroyer as it Rivals them and the light Cruisers in Firepower and when coupled with the frigates optional Hyperion Warhead missile silo it can quote easily down a variety of Covenant Capital ships end quote aside from the six mh70 rampart-point defense guns and two m42 Archer missile pods the entire remaining Armament of the strident class is new like the mark 57 Arena Point defense gun with six of them mounted in quickfire configuration with the mark 55 Caster Naval coil guns of which there are five the mark 55 Caster is a new iteration of the mark 40 Caster Naval coil gun which had previously only ever been used on the Mako class Corvette a ship type that fell out of wide use during the human Covenant war with the help of the new combat management system and Target scanner incoming threats are evaluated and ammunition types are switched to either sub-caliber armor-piercing sabbats or proximity detonation fragmentation shells on a Target by Target basis the first of the new era of frigates the strident class was actually the first deployed in 2549 two years before the end of the war the lead ship being named predictably strident I want to retroactively correct the statement I made in part one of frigates of the UNSC FFG 427 and FFG 502 were not in fact stalord Charon or Paris glass frigates but early strident class frigates likely a part of the first batch to be manufactured they participated in the defense of Concord in 2551 and it's likely that with all their technological innovations their presence was integral to achieving a rare UNSC Naval Victory forcing the Covenant to retreat an unknown strident class frigate deployed ODSTs to an unknown World in 2552 of these ODSTs included then lance corporal Sarah e Palmer the UNSC Infinities widely known to carry up to 10 frigates either anlace or strident class of these ships only one designation is known Infinity Sub vessel 3 a strident class which implies the existence of Infinity's sub vessels 1 2 and perhaps four to ten if all the Infinities cat 8 sub vessel deployment bays are utilized but any number of these could also be and Lace class light frigates we just don't know as a part of expeditionary strike Group 1 sub vessel 3 and at least three other stridents it's hard to tell on this cutscene were deployed from the infinity to engage the storm Covenant Fleet orbiting Requiem in February 2558 sub vessel 3 is also known to have destroyed a xanar pattern light Cruiser which had been deploying troops to engage fire team Crimson at least three strident class frigates escorted the infinity as a part of battle group Dakota engaging the Mantle's approach during the new Phoenix incident but were unsuccessful in stopping the ship and were likely unable to cause any meaningful damage multiple stridents were forcefully powered down in the wake of cortana's reclamation but later during the created Conflict at least five were deployed by the infinity during operation wolf an effort to retrieve cryogenically frozen cloned brains of Catherine Halsey which would go on to create a certain potent weapon it's been six months where have you been [Music] so the new frigates of the UNSC were to begin I really like these and I have to say the creation process of this video made me sad that 343 has never really focused on the naval combat side of things I mean they've got their hands full right now but once things return to a stable point for Halo which for reasons I'll explain in a later video I am convinced they will I hope we get to see more of this stuff especially weird things like the anlace or the mulson's bright Lance I want to see a stride and get the spotlight I want to see a Shield's flare and Lace class frigates in particular catch my eye because they only ever appear in the background of Halo 5 but like you introduce a new frigate that unique and you never show it do anything come on the energy weapon incorporation is just so intriguing to me now that the infinity is out of the way I want to see a battle group of strident's mulsons and Ann laces led by an Autumn class that would be sick but it's not entirely implausible that we'll get to see that right now it's all hands on deck for Halo infinite as it should be but in the future a Halo Wars 3 is not entirely in place it's been pitched before at 343 and in 2017 they revealed that a rejected concept for the game was placed on the Shelf several concept artworks are public and the pitch was primarily concerned with how they could do space combat this was news to me as of writing this and if this art is any indication I am waiting with baited breath for anything to come with this in conclusion the new frigates of the UNSC are different very different we've yet to see them really shine but
