Friend or Fan? | Relentless Church

John chapter 15 John chapter 15 I am asking for those who have the physical ability to stand - please do so for the reading of God's Word those who have the ability to stand I don't often do this but I do it when I feel led to reverence the Word of God to reverence Scripture we are in a very very challenging time in the earth and we've been listening to a lot of voices but some voices don't need to be listened to and some stuff needs to be cast down but the one thing that needs to be elevated is the Word of God your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path and so God we stand in reverence to your word John chapter 15 starting at the eleventh verse Jesus says these things to his disciples as he's preparing to die for you and me these things I have spoken to you that my joy may remain in you and that your joy may be full tell somebody you got your joy Laura so question I guess you need to ask a man somebody else do you have your joy if you don't have your job joy is different from happiness happiness is contingent upon what's going on joy is a fruit of the Spirit that says no matter what's going on God is God God is good and God is worthy joy is in spite of not because of this is my commandment my name is Jesus this is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you greater love has no one than this then to lay down one's life for his friends friends everybody say friends you are my friends there's that word again friends everybody say friends you are my friends if you do whatever I command you no longer do I call you servants for a servant does not know what his master is doing but I have called you friends for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you now travel with me to Acts chapter 4 starting at the 32nd verse Acts chapter 4 verse 32 and it says these words it says now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul everybody say one heart one soul neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own but they had all things in common and with great power the Apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and great grace was upon them all nor was there any one among them who lacked for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold and laid them at the Apostles feet and they distributed to each one as they had need this is a deep profound scripture about the beginning of the early New Testament church where they were so committed to the good of their neighbor that they didn't care if if they had to to make supernatural adjustments to their own agenda to make sure that everybody had something I know that this flies in the face of Western contemporary Christianity and Western thought that is a capitalistic culture that says I get mine you get yours I must say I'm a hide mine I'm gonna put it under the bed I'm gonna put it in the mattress don't ask me for anything I want to ask you for anything I want what I want and it's mine but in the Old Testament in the New Testament church it is very clear that God was building a precedent that says all of us in one community of one heart one soul everybody say one heart one soul this is the power of the church that we move as a unit and when we have one heart and one soul the Bible says great grace was upon us everybody say one heart one soul great grace jesus said you're no longer servants you're my friends because we're doing life together in Acts chapter 4 the church was doing life together this is all in chapter 4 fan or friend you may be seated fan or friend this is a significant message and I ask that you will bear with me I'm going to get you out in time for kickoff you know everybody say fan a friend I want to take a moment and give honor to my father in love he is now a 74 year old young man he just had his birthday on Friday hey why cotton would you please stand so we can celebrate your birthday happy birthday young man as your granddaughter gives you hugs happy birthday to you happy birthday to you happy birthday dear and why happy birthday to you and I'm poppy and we'll give you some money after church ain't man from your grandkids so it'll be about 73 cents everybody say all in fan or friend how many people were blessed by all in part three last week with Pastor Brian horn we thank God for the Word of God that came through the man of God I'm grateful for every single person that's in this room and those who are watching online to our relentless online family you mean a great deal to my wife and I to the leadership of this church and I want to thank God if you are a visitor 1st 2nd or 3rd time would you lift your hands so we can give you proper honor 1st 2nd or 3rd time come on and stand up stand up so we can see you can we let shake some hands look behind you shake some hands if you have a visitor but turn around shake a hand tell them welcome to relentless church let them know that we are glad that they are here we got some we got some family here today to Drew and chandling are here the first daughter of rod and carpenter come on Chandler stand up let's welcome chandling and drew mm baby baby number two two months away all right well we're praying health and and no complications in Jesus name please relate to your mother and father how much we love and honor them and praying for the favor of God to continue to be upon them as they build the church of the Lord there in California let's thank God again for drew and channeling pastor Ron and hope redemption Church and all that God is doing in them let's make some noise let's give some honor you know I love this church this is not the only church I preached it and it's not the only church that I attend sometimes as a pastor you need to be fed and I'm not ashamed to say there are times when I need to be fed yesterday I actually ended up going to a church I went to a service and it was it was a significant service now I I didn't take my wife I went by myself because sometimes you know I just need some time to think through my thoughts and just get prepared so I went and it was out of town it was not close to here I drove and it was a it was a great service that it was a long service some of y'all know about holding this church to our devotion testimony service the church mother talking about the fish fry that's going on after the church service the bake sale uh sure board program service was three hours here's what's deep it was completely packed and and here's what's deep about the service it was they they didn't have a roof and so we had service outside it was 97 degrees and there weren't comfortable pews like this it was like these metal like chairs with no cushion and most people in fact everybody except the very the very feeble or those who were not able to stand they stood and they stood almost for the entire three hours one surface three hours and it was packed when I got there I got there early and still couldn't get parking and so because I knew the the head of the church I was able to get special parking and even then when I got in I was I mean people were walking past me it was incentive like this is a Saturday it's not Sunday morning so I get there and some people knew who I was but but the you know the head of the church he didn't know man shook his hand and he walked right past me and nothing to keep you humble like somebody not knowing who you are my name is pastor John [Applause] there's an Oprah Winfrey no it's a TV show okay what's crazy is that everybody was walking in they were excited what I found out is that some people have been there as early as 6:00 in the morning for a 3:30 service and we're there the whole time you know what they were doing all that time talking sitting there talking some people they brought food and what was crazy is that they all had our similar robes like and it was crazy and here's the deepest thing the service wasn't geared towards Jesus I went to Clemson missionary football church [Applause] [Music] strangest thing because when you define worship it says the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a thing usually a deity show reverence and adoration honor with religious rites I've never been to Clemson missionary football church but when I went they had certain rituals the team ran down this hill and once I'd scream Clemson the other side said and and what was deep is when it was time for the service to begin I mean kickoff the stands were packed and folks stood for the whole time and they had been there since 6:30 in the morning tailgating fellowshipping walking some of them walked two miles parked their car in the grass and walked to the church house excuse me the stadium and you know what I realized I'm not begging another person to come in this building cuz y'all do exactly what you want to do if it matters to you then folks stood in the heat for three hours lifting up the name of a tiger wearing all orange and I gotta beg you to lift up your hands to cheek they were in traffic for two hours and they were in traffic for three hours leaving but they were glad to do it because they were all in some of y'all been here 20 minutes and you already looking at your watch and you'll be walking down them steps to get out like traffic is a problem I'm so tired of us giving our worship to things that don't matter and God is right here and we treat him like he's nothing I wish I had some folk yeah this is a good time to get loud don't just sit on me [Applause] are you a fan or a friend [Applause] a fan or a fanatic is a person whose interest in something is extreme or unreasonable did you hear what I said a fanatic is a person whose interest in a thing is extreme or unreasonable and and here's what's really really profound it there's a there's an element of ritualism almost a religion and am I am I am i downing people who celebrate their favourite team no I'm not I'm just drawing a comparison because you invest in what matters to you every time I talk about offering it gets quiet anywhere I go it gets quiet almost like you forgot what God did for you last week yesterday two days ago you got a direct deposit and you didn't even work the whole 40 hours 20 of it you were on Facebook the other side you were scrolling sometimes you were talking but God didn't cut you off you and I deserve to be cut off but he keeps blessing us you and I have failed over and over and over again and even when we weren't committed to him he was committed to us [Music] a fanatic is somebody that that is loud and so what other people call enrich their invested I saw people for miles with these tents with this orange this orange tent and they were walking with coolers and onenote root beer in them coolers it was it was beer beer and I mean to tell you they were proud and I mean for miles I saw tents because these people take their football seriously they they literally they have created an entire community and here's what I found out because I had to do some research I've never seen anything like this turns out that you just can't get tickets you have to be a donor I'm so glad God doesn't make us buy tickets miracle I'm so glad I don't have to pay for a breakthrough I'm so glad I get to give freely and sometimes I should have give giving any and I didn't but he blessed me anyway is there anybody that God was good to you even though you were stingy is there anybody that God's been good to you and you and you didn't do what you were supposed to do if God has ever blessed you when you know you didn't deserve it then give him a fanatical pray [Applause] [Music] [Applause] they stood for three hours in 97 degree heat and we [Applause] [Music] God is sitting up there like is that how you treated me but you got a big old fantasy football league and you more concerned with scrolling for scores I [Applause] put these baskets up here just in case the Lord speaks to somebody about meeting the need of somebody else in the Bahamas who lost everything while you and I got a few things you drove to church some of you got more than one car you got more than one pair of shoes some people have no socks well I can't give no money you could give some diabetic supplies you give some needles maybe some insulin maybe a blood pressure pump maybe a heart monitor some of those kids need barrettes some of those kids need some hair shame some of the men need some deodorant we can do something I didn't ask for you to give it to me Eric Sabrina I said give it to them that's what the church should be pastor demarcus I found out that if you want good seats in their stadium you have to give on a certain level for some of the best seats pastor aventure it started at six figures six figures for a seat when God has put you in heavenly places and you paid no price but a confession of your faith I wish you understood how good god has been to you he's put you in the game put you on the field gave you a helmet gave you a jersey and I don't know why you sit there like you deserved it you and I didn't deserve it but the blood of Jesus [Applause] [Music] six figures just to get in some paid seven and they were glad to do it and some of us won't give $20 to the God that gave you everything you have in your life are you a fan or a friend I [Applause] say again are you a fan or a friend help me Holy Ghost when I pulled up onto the church campus scuse me onto the grounds I went to this facility it blew me away I was convicted I said no wonder people come to places like this this place is immaculate and their pool tables had video games had ice cream Connie had ice cream thank you Jesus they had ice cream all you could eat they had a fountain of drinks and Powerade Gatorade and water it was filtered water premium water and they had water and they had hot dogs and they had and they had not chosen and and I said I'd go to this church you laughing but here's the reason why the church is losing we act like this building is enough the truth is we need to be where people live so if I want teenagers do we need to get more video games we need NBA 2k tournament we need some John Madden we need some folk that we need to have some games over there some pool tables we need to have more low god help me Holy Ghost I want some different colors some more chairs I want the colors to be bright it was bright it was airy it was state of the art the Wi-Fi worked why is the church always that well or didn't you want well we just hear low we just did give me a tambourines either and a piano Jesus no the best that we can do is the standard I wish I had some help from my elders the best we can do that's the standard what can we do to make this place excellent what can we do to I mean everybody I met was friendly it was 97 degrees hey how are you welcome I'm so glad you're here do you have your badge do you have your name tag we're so glad and and here's what's deep it was a recruitment week so they had people that they wanted to be a part of their church scuse me their football program they treated them like Kings treated their family like kings we got visitors here some of us knew they were visitors and still didn't speak when a football program is doing the church better than the churches to a church then the church has a problem let me tell you the part that messes me up the most come here Charles come here pastor Trevor come on quickly that was fast security y'all weren't ready for that y'all weren't ready yeah I'm already dead y'all just sitting anything Eagles down he's gone he it is it's over [Applause] I am in the ground do you understand me watch this elder there was a time when one of the opposing players was injured it got quiet in the stadium just like y'all got quiet here's what happened eventually after they tended to him get up under my arms the injured player got up he started limping you know what the people that from the opposing team and the opposing stadium you know what they did they clapped it wasn't even their player but they clapped for the one that was trying to take them out they had more grace for their opponent if that's how they treat their opponent what right do we have when they're on the same team and they're injured why do we tear down our injured and our wounded and our broken why do we judge them texts about them tweet about them talk about I knew they wasn't no good I knew they was gonna fail there aren't the same team they didn't mean the kid injured that's what happens when you fighting Devils sometimes you win sometimes you don't but I don't need to beat me up we're on the same [Applause] [Music] I need everything in here with hands and feet to use them and if you got a mouth use that too [Applause] [Music] right now in stadiums all over this country people are standing up watching people warm up and stretch and get ready to face their opponent you know what Sunday service is it's stretching it's getting you ready to face your opponent during the week I don't come here to play games when I lift my hands I'm stretching out I'm giving my problems to God when I bow down I'm telling God you're bigger than my problem I need my coach to tell me which way to go I need the word I need the playbook to make sure that I'm running the right play I need the Holy Ghost to tell me which route to run I wish I had some help in here and it's nice if you cheer but I'm not doing it for Cheers I'm doing it for my coach and for my owner cuz my owner writes my check you miss what I said if the world doesn't like what I do I don't care I've worshiping God because God takes care of me [Applause] three hours they stood and clapped after the complete fool some folks fainted got up and went back outside why because they were invested in what mattered to them they were three things that I want this church to be they were committed they were consistent and they were connected there was this one point during warm-ups that all the players locked elbows three rows of them in the coaches and they just walked like this and everybody in the whole place started screaming because they knew it's one thing if we're individuals but when we stay connected we cannot be stopped I wish I had a relentless church that knew that you're good by yourself but when we get connected and don't let Devils get between us and don't let insecurities get between us and don't let argue it's get between us and don't let jealousy get between us we are a bad church we are an unstoppable church we are a Matthew chapter 16 church that the gates of Hell cannot prevail against the church I wish we would shout loud in here like we gonna shout for our team just somebody consistent no say it like you mean is they consistent see here's my problem then folk pay for that ticket you understand me and they're gonna be at every home game the Lord says do you understand I don't care if it's 12 degrees they don't have on coats mittens they're gonna have on earmuffs and they all gonna be orange everything was orange I was thirsty just looking at him I just wanted Sunny Delight just looking at I'm I was sick of it I was just thirsty I couldn't even didn't know what to do just gonna have an orange Krush please can I have some some Gatorade please can I have something my mouth is parched doesn't matter what the weather is they're gonna show up but us it's cloudy outside I'm on I'm gonna stay home munchies I just don't feel like it see how we treat the Lord see how we treat church here's the other thing them folk we're on time you understand me I mean and I'm not talking about on time they was there five hours early and I looked up with 20 minutes the stadium here it was almost empty with one minute left I saw 80,000 white people come out of nowhere I said they all magicians I've never seen this Lord this is crazy they it's magic Jesus [Applause] watch this and I was standing around people men and women they were knowledgeable they knew all the players they knew where they were from they knew their backgrounds and we can't even remember one scripture but you saved sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost but you don't know one scripture you ready to leave every service you're ready to walk out early and you wonder why the devil is whooping on your head maybe it's because you're a fan and not a friend because if you're only a fan then you'll leave when it gets bad and some people are bandwagon I don't want no bandwagon folk don't come over here for our worship but give your tithe somewhere else you and your tithe go where you getting fed but if you're a part of this house then get up in here stay up in here and be committed up in here everybody do this right here say this is my church ain't get to get the snarl on your face look just look damn what I'm saying [Applause] how many people say relentless is your church make some noise of relentless is your church make some noise if this is your church then be committed to your church they have Booster Club they had all kinds of stuff going on and and here's what's deep it's gonna be packed when they play a team that's not good because they're not there for the opponent they're there for their team this Friday we got a home game can I please Trevor can I please I said we got a home game Friday we got Kirk Franklin tammy franklin Devine Franklin Trevor McDonald Amy MacDonald aventure gray John Craig we got Isaac curry we got a home game and the tickets are free there's no excuse cuz I don't show up when it's convenient when I'm committed I come when it's not convenient because I know that whatever the coach puts in the game it's for the benefit of the team and I'm still believing for a million dollars today so we can go right down to the Bahamas and say on behalf of the people of the Upstate region of Greenville South Carolina and the relentless online community we give you not only a check but a church get out of that seat I need a couple people to walk the aisle in here I need a couple people to act a complete crazy self in here I need a couple people to stir up the atmosphere I feel something shifting in here I'm trying to build a team is there a team in here is relentless Church in the building if you're a part of relentless online and you're driving I dare you to blow your horn roll the window down wave your hand if you at your house shout at your house barked at you how dare you to make a sound that lets God know I'm exuberant enthusiastic over the moon about you you're so good just so great you are worthy to be praised [Music] I feel my help coming I got the joy it alone [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] halleluyah committed consistent every Sunday to lower sins I'm in here Sabrina how far y'all live from here two hours you drive two hours you never ask me for gas money you told me I'm committed I'm in this how can you how can I be of service how can you use me pastor you caught me on a Friday at four o'clock on relentless strength night I said Eric I know it's late we got men's service tonight I know you live two hours away said pastor I'm already in the car on the way [Music] get my wallet it's upstairs cuz I'm gonna so gas money into you for the next month did you just sew into them yeah yeah just a seed to let you know when you get committed and when you get consistent God shows up in Supernatural ways oh yes he does I said oh yes he does just somebody consistent don't make a hobby when God has made you a priority God is not your play toy this is not the place where you hang out this is the place where you do business with the king this is where we worship the Living God this is where miracles take place this is where God breaks the power of the enemy over your life tell somebody consistent I'm committed I'm consistent I'm gonna stay connected order Nick I'm staying connected it's my church see I'm not connected when it's convenient I'm connected when I could be doing other things imma go ahead just tell it to y'all like it is listen people are always moved by talent they will always cover talent they will cover it more the anointing even if they call it talent me and my wife have other opportunities all the time presented all the time but we are committed consistent and connected we're going to build relentless church in Greenville and then we're going to make a global church from Greenville don't try to make me just about Greenville I was global when you got me [Applause] I'm not just content to go up and down Woodruff Road Haywood Road Haywood mall honey ants pretzels is nice but I'm not just called to this region our church is a global move of God you better learn other languages because relentless is going global baby did you hear what I said we have other opportunities but I ain't no high early I'm not available to the highest bidder I'm available to the God who called because he recruited me when nobody else was thinking about me so I'm loyal to him I could transfer to another cuz you know the Davis you're upset you just transfer people play if you don't like a certain team you act out until they trade you or they release you let me tell you something I'm going nowhere my father put us here no devil in Hell can get me out of here did you hear what I said I don't care what you say about me I'm gonna be right here and we gonna build right here and we going all over this country and all over the world so y'all better get ready put your wings on put your jersey on and that's the power of God yo Jersey's not orgeous red is the blood of Jesus and if you got your Jersey called salvation then make some holy ghost noise right now [Music] [Applause] buddy say consistent committed connected I'm staying connected I'm building relationship here the Bible says they had all things coming and they distribute it to each one as they had me that means if I got three somebody got one of them three it's not convenient but it's not about me it's about the whole team it's about the body of Christ help me Lord you know if I didn't give as much as I've given to the church I'd be a millionaire by now but I'd give it because I believe that if I saw it one day somehow in some way it'll come back but while I got thousands I'm so in thousands you know why he's training me so if I get millions and when I get millions I'll show that too and when I get billions I'll show that too and when I get a trillion I'll show that too and I'm gonna have what he wants me to have and I'm gonna show it right into the kingdom of God and I'm gonna bind every devil in hell and I'ma leave something for my kids and my grandkids then and only then will I get up out of here I'm not dying till I leave an inheritance till my children's children but God I want you to resource me so I can build the kingdom without having to beg people or apologize to corporate structure that don't want me to talk about Jesus if you want me to shut up about Jesus keep your money keep your stop keep your platform cuz I belong to God I rep King Jesus I'm not a fan I'm a friend tell somebody I'm all in you know why I'm all in MJ because Jesus was all in oh yes he was he wasn't casual Jesus went all in every person that needed a miracle he stayed till the end the Bible said he had compassion on the multitude and healed everybody that came he stayed all day you didn't think he was tired you don't think he was hot you don't think he was sweaty you don't think he wanted to go lay down but people were hurting people were broken and here's what's worse most of them got what they wanted and left never followed him he only had a few disciples most people just want your stuff and not you okay I'm talking good you better preach [Applause] the Bible makes it clear and I'll be done in just a moment but I'll be done when I'm finished [Applause] the Bible says in Acts chapter 2 verse 40 and they continued steadfastly in the Apostles doctrine and fellowship in the breaking of bread and in prayer and I want to tell you that this church is going to be about the Apostles doctrine the breaking of bread fellowship and prayer the Apostles doctrine is the Word of God right here you're gonna hear an uncompromising Word of God that's number one number two the breaking of bread this is very profound I need you to write this down get this in your spirit the breaking of bread means we eat food y'all thought I was hitting y'all with something deeper spiritual do you know how many breakthroughs happen over a chicken sandwich you know how many miracles happen over macaroni and cheese and some collard greens with some hot sauce not durkee hot sauce Crystal hot sauce I'm just saying you got to get the right hot sauce and some of y'all put vinegar on your greens I don't know who you are but you can get delivered today [Applause] the Bible says in the breaking of bread and fellowship that means we build authentic relationships I'm so tired of these surface relationships James how you doing I'm great the Lord know I want a real relationship how you doing I'm hurting today I'm struggling today me and my wife we were beefing it and and and and I need some help what do you do when y'all argue how do you keep the peace how do you break the back of the devil cuz I know she's not my enemy I know the devil is our common enemy but he's got me thinking she's my enemy so what do I do and and she thinks I'm her enemy so what do we do my children are strung out what do we do real relationship is not that surface stuff I don't have time for that I lost one of my closest friends this week he was 41 faithful men love God loved his wife loved his kids served the Lord driving minding his business somebody veered into his Lane and that was that I realized when he died I don't care what you think about me I'm gonna serve God and die right that's it but if you in my life it's gonna be real it ain't gonna be no surface ain't no icing let's get to the cake baby Apostles doctrine the breaking of bread fellowship and prayer tell somebody pray in the deepest said breaking a bread first you know how many things can happen when you just start eating and talk about the goodness of Jesus mess around what you even have a prayer service over some cornbread do you understand how good god is he will mess around and deliverance will come when you're having an authentic conversation maybe that's why it says confess your sins one to another and he is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you of all unrighteousness how profound is it that he said don't even talk to me about it talk to your friend about it and when you talk to them I'll listen and why you talking I'll heal you I wish I had seventeen believers [Applause] fellowship breaking a bread prayer Apostles doctrine I'm not a fan of Jesus I'm a friend of Jesus and as I close this is one of the things I learned yesterday nobody left all the way till the fourth quarter the game was already decided they got what they came for but until it was all zeros on the clock they stayed visit it funny when we get what we want we're ready to go you trying to make you trying to make me feel guilty no I'm not that's not guilt that's immaturity in the spirit when you think that feeling is guilt that's called conviction in the Holy Ghost time out for that fake love everybody if you love me you wouldn't said that love tells the truth you don't like people that tell you the truth and you get offended fast and you don't want to listen so you shut them down that's why you're still immature the problem ain't everybody with everybody don't one common denominator is you I'm not gonna worship at the altar of a football team more than I worship at the altar of the king in fact I won't worship it at all and let me say this cuz some of y'all a I don't wore my Jersey Jesus he going am I going to hell no you're not I love my team to my team I'm from Cincinnati the Bengals and they're not great but I'm from there and so I rep them I'm not a convenient fan I grew up there I'm invested I want to see him do well it's nothing wrong rockin your Jersey the church I love that matter of fact we should all rock our Jersey next week Rock the Jersey I'm not trippin I see some Cowboys fans back there y'all going four and twelve I see some who dance some New Orleans Saints but I know some Falcons is in here to wear them dirty Birds stand up dirty Birds we're two Seahawks fans head by the way by the way say hello to Russell in ceará cuz they're watching because I just got a text say hi to Russell Wilson and Ciara say say hi I see somebody would have got it Tony yo Brown I'm off that's nice I'm glad you're excited about your team it was a setup because there's somebody in here who's the head coach of the Jerusalem Lions he is the king of kings and Lord of lords he is the head coach and the owner and he is the the quarterback and he put us on the team and if you're grateful to rock the jersey with his name on it make some noise for Jesus Christ and the team because the local church make some noise for the church we are the church we are the team this is our game tell somebody is game Dane high five three people tell them it's game day I said high five three people tell him his game day now make some noise because we're getting ready to run through the tunnel [Applause] we are committed we are consistent we are connected we are the church we volunteer in our own schools we're not just gonna listen to what elder Brandon said and not do anything we're gonna sign up this Friday we are committed consistent and connected not only are we coming but we're gonna invite and bring three friends because it's free touch sixteen thousand people and tell them it's free I need seven people that will believe God that we have we have so we're going to be able to sow a million dollars into hurricane relief all we need is like 800 people to give a thousand because out therefore I already said what me and my wife are giving and we'll give
