hey there you're watching amitha verma the other day i was visiting with my dad who recently in the last two years decided to downsize his home while he was looking for that perfect home he asked me so amita what are the latest design trends and i was so happy to tell my dad daddy guess what maximalism is back in style so you just like he may be wondering what is maximalism maximalism is the idea of more is more or the opposite of minimalism where less is more this design style is perfect for the person who loves to collect things or look at layers of visual graphics designs textures fabrics all of those beautiful things layered upon more upon more upon more so you may be wondering how do i do that how do i do maximalism well today i wanted to share a couple of ways for you to create this experience or this style throughout your home and enjoy the process of figuring out how to put it all out there and all together now the first thing you can do is to start thinking about the objects in your home as a group of collections not clusters but collections now we tend to like what we like and in doing so we tend to accumulate the same sorts of things so a great way to do maximalism or really enjoy your decor is to take the things that are in common say for instance you have a collection of antique or vintage paintings take all of those and group them and strategically place them on a wall together so you can experience the idea of more is more this could be a wall accented by a collection of plates or platters or maybe your old painting whatever it is that you have a collection of i recommend putting them together to create a grouping and then finding that ideal wall to share all of these beautiful things now i will admit there are certain rooms that just lend itself better to maximalism or the idea of more is more one room that we're all probably spending a lot of time in is our home office in my own home office i have collected every possible book that we own that's not on my nightstand or maybe at my desk and brought them into the bookshelves of my home office i categorize them by the subjects that are in common and then i love to intersperse a little bit of decor in between my bookshelves and this is a great place to really enjoy the more is more concept another room that lends itself to more is more is your kitchen now i bet if you're like me you probably have a lot of your serving wear your cream wear your vases all this beautiful breadboards stored inside your cabinets to experience the more as more philosophy a great way to do this is just to pull some of those things out and display them in my own kitchen i have cabinets over my countertop with glass doors the main tip i'll follow is to group like things together these are perfect places to pull away some of those tucked away items and show them off my favorite way to express maximalism is through the fabrics that i use when i am working on a home design project i love to follow a really general philosophy of making sure to include a solid a geometric like a stripe or a check a floral something beautiful embroidered and bring all these together with my color schemes my paint on my walls and usually a rug to ground all of these designs together so if you like this idea you may be wondering how do you get all these fabrics together so i always have a starting point in this particular room i knew i wanted all of my bookshelves to be painted a really beautiful shade of blue which was going to be the grounding color that i built the whole room around my other favorite way to get a grounding color way is to select my rug first and it's very easy to build a color scheme around one particular thing to ground your room so once i decided on the color in this room i kept it pretty monochromatic meaning all of the different fabrics and patterns and textures i selected had blue in it somehow so even though it all looks different when you put it together it all feels very cohesive and complimentary for that reason today i wore my blue shirt so i'll share with you one spot in my home that i've had a lot of fun with doing maximalism or more is more this is in my kitchen and my dining table now last year i've had a lot of fun branching out bringing in different color silverware different styles different napkin patterns that i would never go for experimenting with different types of tablescapes that are very abstract or very full very traditional very modern and that's exactly why i absolutely love maximalism i love a lot of things i love looking at things from history i love modern i love art i love home decor i love furnishings and in every chapter of my life there's a different expression of how those things come through my home or what my home says about my personality maximalism allows me to experience all those things and express myself much like fashion does for other people so leave a comment and tell me your thoughts do you love this idea of more is more and can't wait to layer up your home and your fabrics are you more of a minimalist and want to see all of that stuff put away and kept to the basics i hope you enjoyed this video if so
