[Music] hey there you're watching amitha verma today i am excited to share the answer to one of our most frequently asked questions over at village antiques and one of my secret but not about to be secret biggest obsessions the one thing i cannot pass up whenever i go antiquing if you ever visit our shop village antiques you will find a delightful assortment of beautiful antique and vintage seating and more specifically vintage and antique style chairs their beauty will astonish you cane-backed beautiful nail detail trim different shapes different heights different widths beautiful fabrics and even some with no fabric whatever they are they make our clients and me stop in our tracks every single time you'll find old chairs new chairs french chairs swedish chairs things that are just so delightful you want to grab them but like so many of our customers you just don't know how to use them so i'm here to tell you today don't resist just go ahead and grab your favorite ones because i'm going to tell you exactly how to place them all throughout your house now the first place and one of my most favorite places to put them throughout my house is actually throughout my seating arrangements now in any room that i'm working in i traditionally and typically use a sofa that is produced in today's time to allow the room to feel welcoming and comfortable and cozy and all those great things that we're looking for in a seating area now the funny thing about a sofa is no matter how long it is typically if you have guests over only two people will sit on a sofa at the same time so instead of crowding up my room with lots of sofas and love seats i love including one if not maybe two sofas and then sprinkling a variety of individual seating throughout my room and herein lies the perfect place for you to start including all of those beautiful unusual new antique vintage french swedish whatever your heart fancies different styles of chairs into your room just like i've done in these rooms that you can see right here i have used antique style chairs all throughout my house any place i've got a seating arrangement i try to include one if not a pair of antique seating to give my room some old soul some charm and some character and i mix and match this with my sofas and with other styles of individual seating now you might find when you're antiquing and looking for pieces like this you only come across one that's okay like my daddy says keep on trucking grab that one and don't be afraid to collect mismatched styles the trick to doing it successfully is to look for pieces that are about the same size or the same scale and also look for pieces that can be in the same colorway whether with the paint finish or with the fabrics you can create a cohesive story which i will be sure to create a tutorial to show you how to do later on one of the things i love the most about antique and vintage chairs is it allows you to express your own individual style a fully upholstered chair may not be able to do this is where i love getting into beautiful carvings and rosettes and details and curls and swirls and all that kind of great stuff to really show off my style in my home in one room i might have six or seven different design motifs but because it's done in such a small way it's not overwhelming at all as well here is a great place to go all in with color chalk finish paints different finishes distressing color pattern these individual pieces allow you to go crazy without overwhelming the whole room now if a whole room of antique seating sounds too overwhelming for you or maybe you're not ready to dive in quite yet a second place i absolutely love including antique seating is in a vanity i've got one in my vanity it was one of the first antique pieces i ever purchased and i've got one in my guest room which i fondly call my mom's room so she feels beautiful and like a queen whenever she comes to help me take care of the kids and spend time with me and last if you can't get everybody on board i say look for one for yourself and make this one your curlup chair i've got one in my house one in my office one that's about to go in our craft room and one i'm looking for on the hunt for to put into my kitchen this is a chair just for me or sometimes my kids because of course if i'm there that's where they go and it's where i have my coffee and read my book and just enjoy all of the age and patina and character and fabric and finishes that this one beautiful chair that fills my obsession can give me so there you have it don't be afraid of that antique chair the next time you see it grab it and put it into your home to help you express who you are in your place so what do you think where do you think you
