hey guys thank you for joining me this morning I just wanted to make a quick video about freezing your sugar cookies so why do we freeze our sugar cookies for a couple of reasons for me number one my number one reason is that once these have gone through the freezer whether it be 24 hours or three months the I believe it improves the texture of these sugar cookies now what happens to these guys is they go from kind of a soft crumbly cookie to a soft chewy cookie at least with my recipe so I love every single one of my cookies to take that run through the freezer before I decorate them so when I'm decorating just a blank sugar cookie I will bake them I will cool them and as long as they feel dry to the touch and they're cool I will stack them in stacks of six and then I'll wrap them in plastic wrap now I don't necessarily do that to give them longevity or to keep the moisture in even though of course I'm sure it helps but what I like to do is I I'm I like quick references and I like production so when I have these in a bin I immediately know that there's a stack of six right there so I can quickly count and see what my inventory is some people like to hang up a dry erase board on the outside of their freezer and kind of keep an inventory that way which is great I've done that myself but I did go ahead and just switch to a method where I can just add a quick glance see how many blanks I have in my freezer now a benefit to freezing these ahead of time is guess what you always have cookies at the ready I can take these and leave this entire stack for a couple hours on my counter or I can undo this lay them out on a cookie sheet and guess what they'll thaw a much faster they'll thaw within 20 minutes or so so either way you have cookies on hand and much easier so it's great to prepare for orders ahead of time it will rag you out trying to bake mix icing mix colors and decorate all in a really short time span so this saves a lot of headache and a lot of time now what do we do once we have these gorgeous decorated sugar cookies well if you want to then freeze them again you are more than welcome to it is not going to ruin your cookie to then freeze them again if you've already have them Frozen Once that's the glory of sugar cookies and certainly my particular recipe it can be frozen again after decorating so when you are decorating or freezing a decorated cookie you want to go ahead and no matter what the medium icing you're using whether that is royal icing or fondant or rolled buttercream or crusting buttercream you're going to go ahead and follow the instructions to fully dry that cookie before packing so you're going to fully dry your cook your decorated cookie and then package it just like you would for a customer or a client or your family and then pop it into the freezer now we don't stack these the same way we're not going to stack them on top of each other like this we're actually going to do what we call shingling which is stacking them on their side now we do this because it's a little gentler on that design and it doesn't put as much pressure weighing down while they're sitting in this box so it doesn't crush your designs if you know what I mean so if you can see when your thigh sugar cookies that are decorated sometimes like I used airbrush and royal icing on on this particular cookie now I'm not going to try to touch that surface because I don't want to mess up that airbrush underneath now I do have condensation on the top of this cookie so what you do is if you're in a hurry you can take your quickly take your decorated cookies lay them out on a cookie sheet and they will dry really quickly or if you're gonna thaw the whole bunch and you have time just take the whole tub out and leave on the counter for a few hours and what you're going to look for is no more wetness moisture or condensation and that way you know they are the same temperature as the room air now of course how long does that take well the warmer your environment the shorter the time so if you're in a rush take that tray of cookies and move them to the warmest part of your house if you're not in a rush just let them sit off to the side all right guys well I hope you um learned a little bit more about freezing your cookies and if you have any questions please drop me a message in that comment section all right guys thank you subscribe to my videos take care guys
