ladies and gentlemen welcome back to another audacity tutorial i'm josh meyer of josh meyerville.com i'm a professional voice talent i've done over 3 000 paid voiceovers i got into that to writing music and i just so happen to be an expert in audacity so today we have part two of debunking the trash information out there and today it is your turn ladies as promised i built some eqs for you i am a man of my word and i'm so so sorry that people have not given a ton of information to the females specifically and gentlemen feel free to use these eqs if you like i built you one last week on friday but if they work for you great if not you've got one that's fire already so before we move forward i just want to say thank you so much to you all for your support um i am here for you okay this is this is my way of giving back and i've got a lot of really really good content coming your way i have created some content surrounding things that most people didn't think was possible to do in audacity but using my creative problem solving skills i've created some hacks to do some of this stuff that most people don't think is possible and this channel is so much more than about just gratifying so without further ado let's talk about what we have here we have a female voiceover so basically i've created a lot of eqs for my female clients but i don't hold on to the sample recordings that they send me so i wanted a female voiceover for this so i reached out to a good friend of mine elena sutras she is an award-winning voice actress she is she is fire she's really really good at what she does so elena owns a company called vip entertainment group she runs the kids voiceover division called vipkids uh you've heard her voice on national tv and radio commercials like doordash herbal essence verizon mcdonald's the list goes on she's a beast she's really really tight and she's a good friend i've known her for years and she's an amazing amazing person so really proud to be her friend so i reached out to her and said hey do you have like a raw recording laying around that i could use uh for my female viewers and sure enough sent one right over she's awesome so we've got a raw voice over here from elena um so we'll have a quick listen to that we'll create a duplicate track so that we can do a side by side and i will have the filter curve for download in the description along with directions on how you could download that and import it into your own audacity you're welcome you are welcome all right so let's have a quick listen i won't make you listen to duplicate track and i'm going to make these tracks a little smaller so that they both fit on the screen and let's have a look and see if they are the same size we'll do it just a little smaller okay i'm trying to be as fair as i possibly can here they look to be about the same size okay cool close close but not perfect let's go alright so ladies and gentlemen you know the drill and ladies i'm so sorry that people haven't given you the information that's like you know because people are like make your voice sound better do a bass boost do a trouble boost but they're not saying like ladies you might not want to do a bass boost for yourself um because let's face it i mean if if a client wanted you know a really bassy sound they'd hire a man right so if they wanted a female sound they probably don't want it to be super bassy so i i apologize on behalf of the other goofballs that are not clarifying that it might not be a good idea for you ladies but we know the drill guys let's do this okay filter curve right that's one of them i'll show it to you i will give it to you all the the whole nine the whole nine all right so you know the drill bass boost all right they're getting a little better not a lot better they're bringing it down from nine to about five okay so we'll go ahead and apply that and the treble boost we know the drill filter curve manage factory presets and trouble boost bring it down to about five two thirds of the way up okay there you have it okay bass boost trouble boost great okay and we'll go ahead and bring up one of the eqs that i created for you ladies and i made a few i made a few so basically what i did here is i took all of the eqs i looked at i looked at all the eq's that i've created for a large number of women and i was looking for things that were congruent in trouble areas and i built this eq based off of that so once again is there a perfect eq there is not but i built this eq knowing that often these are trouble areas for the ladies um so that's how i built that now once again ladies have less of a deep voice than men so we started bringing it up right here at about 110 because you know the ladies aren't registering you know and 80 hertz at all so i cut all of that stuff out and i'll drag this down you can see just like the eq on friday i dropped it down to 42 dbs negative 42. and i did the same exact thing over here in the high end because even though ladies have a higher pitched voice still not registering over here 16 to 20k not applicable so this is the eq that i built for you all you can try to draw it yourself if you like or you can just download it and use the instructions in the description to import it directly into your own audacity um so without further ado this is just one of them so i'll bring up another one here in a little bit and we can do a side by side of that as well alright so let's apply it okay and let's normalize both of them normalize fantastic and normalize fantastic i mean look already we're seeing already we're seeing differences in the size of the waveform big differences in the size of the waveform once again my audio gets louder because it has the room to grow okay all right so let's let's do this let's do this there's let's let's do it like we did last week them okay us ours all right no child should them no child should live in fear us no child should will bring in that same recording the raw version of it and i'll slap a different eq on there so we've already got the bass boost trouble boost over here we've normalized to negative three uh let's slap a different eq for the ladies all right manage user presets and i built this one if the ladies wanted to add just a little bit in the lower ends but not like the base ends um i built this for that and i also uh put a couple dips in the the sibling range to try to attack some of that as well and every person is going to be different so what i did here is i boosted a little bit as you can see we have some nice rolls and dips and a similar tactic of attacking some of the problem areas but boosting a little bit in the areas that don't tend to be problems and i did a couple dips right here in the areas this would be like the ch area and this would be the sharp s area so clearly um every person's sibilants are going to be different uh but you know the only way that i could actually you know build an eq for you is to like have you send me a recording and hire me to do that so this is a general eq so let's give this one a shot and see how this works in comparison uh so let's go ahead and do it okay we've applied that eq let's go ahead and normalize that i mean look at the size difference ladies and gentlemen goodness gracious here and i'll make it smaller too just like the last one so we can fit them both on the screen great i mean look at it it's just once again visibly you can see the differences you can see more congruence and the eq that i've created for you um so had to guess for elena um here let me undo the normalization and i will undo the filter curve for elena intuitively i want to say that let's see here possibly this one would be the best for her let's hats off to uh the audacity team for doing this stuff for us so i feel like this sounded really good on her as well let's check it out all right so we applied that now we will normalize i mean
