[Music] this episode is sponsored by gentian impact [Music] [Applause] [Music] hello and welcome back and today we're making Wolf's gravestone from gentian Impact [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the wolf's gravestone is a giant sword which in the game is classified under the Claymore category [Music] foreign [Music] because of the intricate nature of the object at some point the entire process will turn into an exercise in Creative sculpture so first we will start making the blade to wait and to scale the way I select the material I usually need I weigh them as starting material account for approximately five to ten percent loss in scale or grinding and proceed with forging carefully taking measurements as I go foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] the shape of the handle presents itself as an elongated reverse tapered comb with a solid forged cross at the end so I'm going to take the same piece of tool steel which I have a lot of and start tapering out my comb isolating the material and forging out the cross [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you to create the cross on the end of the handle we're first going to punch a series of four holes after that we'll use a hot cut tool to cut in at an angle on each of the corners to make our core quadrants the rest is done by hand [Music] oh [Music] in the game the swords handle has a golden pinstripe that terminates in a Diamond by the cross this time around we decided to instead of brassing it and scrubbing it away try a technique that is normally reserved for fixing parts what I do is I slice out the extra material that I don't need on the handle and braise in the brass and then grind the surface away what I'm essentially doing you can imagine as if I'm casting the parts that not there directly into the bearing structure [Music] [Music] foreign the first layer of Parts on the guard consists of Arrow and diamond shaped objects some will be the equivalents and other will be the decorative pieces that protrude back onto the handle in all those cases the most efficient way of achieving those shapes is forging them questions [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] all right now the blade forging is complete we've pinched out our protruding points on the edge of the blade we've cut the proper angle here at the tip and we've induced the slice that divides the two blades in half it's time to start doing some blade grinding now we're going to end up using all kinds of different attachments to achieve the grinds on this blade but to start things off we're just going to use a contact reel get the perimeter of the blade established and start rough grinding in some edges our end goal is going to be about inch wide thick really flat bevels all the way around which will have to be done on the platen but we probably won't even get to that until after the heat treat because we want to leave the edges nice and thick to play it safe on the heat treat alright let's get to grinding [Music] [Music] thank you once the profiling of the blade is complete it's time to start establishing the offset diamonds that are inside the slot in the middle of the blade to do that I've started by drilling a hole then I'll be using a carbide cutter and finishing it off to make all the lines nice and crisp with a file and then [Music] [Applause] [Music] before heat treat my goal is not to grind our edges completely to their final shape however I do need to take a lot of material off and be super careful to not over grind if I over grind I can't exactly put that material back so even though this is a heavy blade and I want a hog material I have to be super careful foreign [Music] with all the time into making this blade exist it's now down to the heat tree with just one mistake one slip up this blade could easily crack or warp to the point where we can't use it and we would have to start over [Music] thank you foreign now to accommodate the seating of the red sphere we're taking off really thick wall tubing and cut it off it conveniently fit the exact dimensions of a glass sphere [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] now that the blade has been hardened and tempered Matt will have to do all the final sharpening and polishing on the piece however because of the sheer surface area and weight of the blade Matt will have to find roundabout ways of achieving the same results he would have on a smaller piece that means he has to have all the equipment on hand and utilize every single bit of it foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] for choosing solid wall thick tubing is because it's actually weight-bearing part to which all the other parts will be attached using welding preheating and post heating which is a sophisticated way of attaching high carbon Steels to medium carbon steels foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] the last bit of Blade grinding to do is to add in the very narrow Fullers that run up this blade there's about six of them stacked and to do that I'm using a straight edge and a hand grinder that gives me a nice narrow straight line this is a great technique for both Advanced and beginner blade Swiss [Music] with a foundational structure of the sword already assembled it's time to move on and start sizing and making the overlays to complete the piece [Music] on a lot of the overlays the most efficient way of making them is forging them and laying them on top of your object in order to size them and then continue forging them foreign [Music] on the other ones the most efficient way is to have matte grind out one of the parts because we have to make four of them and I Forge out the rest of the three it might take Matt one hour to make one part on the grinder and it will take me about 20-30 minutes to make the rest of the three in the forging [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] now that all the parts are assembled together it's time to give the sword color and presence some of the parts we will use gun blow on to achieve the exact color that you see in the game without sacrificing the realism for that we use store-bought gunblue however we cannot avoid painting some other parts especially the red because those patinas are not found in nature however the combination of paint as well as gun blue will give the sword an aged somewhat used patina and will really make it look like an artifact [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] well we haven't made a giant sword in a long time and this sure was fun now if you want to check out a great game check out gen impact and keep watching our Channel remember over here at that works we don't use a tool simply because we have it we use a tool because it's necessary for that exact job and thank you for watching catch you next time and thanks for watching our very first gentian impact build if you're new to this channel be sure to subscribe by clicking
