this video is sponsored by Conor McGregor's forged Irish [Music] Stout [Music] get [Music] there [Music] [Music] I've dedicated my entire life to the craft of Sword making and well to be honest it's pretty much the only thing I'm any good at however I have been a part of some pretty amazing projects but getting the opportunity to make a sword for the Conor McGregor something that's in his family crest something that meant enough to him to get it tattooed on his body and that he chose as a symbol for his company well there's nothing much cooler than [Music] that now the sword we're making today is an Irish Claymore and the design of which is based on Conor McGregor's forged Irish Stout now this logo is just a white silhouette so it leaves a lot of the details to be imagined by us in doing so we're going to end up creating not only this iconic thing for a brand but also our own original [Music] artwork [Music] really [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah while I continue the work on ladder patterning the blade blank itself Steve house is going to begin the work of forging the sword guard he's going to be doing so out of a piece of ancient rod iron [Music] [Music] the [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] in this day and age the the sword has become kind of a thing of of Legend um kind of a fantasy thing um and people don't really think of it as something that's actually uh to be used um and it's the same sort of thing with blacksmithing people don't think that we we exist outside of renfair or you know these fantasy settings but this is this is my life this is what I do this is how I pay my bills and this is so much more than just a job this is the second oldest craft in all of history this has existed basically as long as we've been a civilization there's a responsibility to honor what's gone before me um as well as teaching new people the craft and inspiring new people in this craft to keep it going for generations to [Music] come [Music] [Music] w [Music] [Music] he [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] he [Music] although the blade is mostly forged to shape does need a little bit of rough grinding to clean up the silhouette and the perimeters before we move on to heat treating [Music] [Music] the process of heat treating is where we take a piece of malleable steel that's basically useless on a battlefield Harden it temper it and make it ready for a Warrior's [Music] hands with our blade starting to look very good it's time to switch gears a little bit and start getting our Hilt shape refined and fitted to the blade itself B [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] me [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] go [Music] [Music] for our sword pommel which is the counterbalance of the sword we're going to be once again again returning to the material called rot iron to forge it out of this time we're going to be reclaiming it from an old broken tool and turning it into something useful once [Music] [Music] again [Music] [Music] [Music] a [Music] taking a pommel from a rather basic design and quickly fastening it or fluting it turning it into something special something unique it's always been something I really enjoyed in Sword making something I can do pretty fast I've done thousands of them so when it comes to just adding designed to a basically lathe Turn part it's uh definitely one of my specialties and things I enjoy [Music] [Music] most [Music] a sword just isn't a sword without a handle so it's time to move on from blad smithing and black smithing and start doing some carpentry to be a complete swordsmith one must be a complete Craftsman embracing all materials [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] n when looking at the logo design for the sword handle there's a crisscrossing nature on the handle itself one could interpret that as twine or leather overlapping in a crisscrossing nature but I think it would be much more handsome to carve that crisscrossing fluting into the handle itself one of the the most important processes in making this particular sword is adding the McGregor family name on the blade itself and the logo they chose to do so using the OM Celtic lettering alphabet so we're going to paint that on with a resist and when we go to etch the final Damascus pattern into the blade the McGregor name will be bright and stand proud and be forever etched into this blade [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I want to give a huge shout out to the whole forged Irish Stout team they're doing amazing things and it was a real honor to be a part of this project don't forget they're not here to take part they're here to take over and if you enjoyed this sword build then you have to check out this video right here and don't forget to subscribe to this channel it's right there click the icon right on the right thanks for your support
