rev up your engines all right today we got a 2017 F-150 unfortunately he had so many stroller hits now his cruise control doesn't work we're gonna hook up the computer to see what's going on that and we're going to get a general overview of the vehicle he bought it used and now it's 98 000 miles now he did buy one of his extended warranties and he said in the first three months he got his money back because it is a Ford he's had a torque converter replaced but it was free he's out the floorboards done over twice sometimes it's worth buying an extended warranty and if you're curious the company used as Ally a-l-l-y they did what he needed done he bought it used he got more of his money back that's for sure but the warranty's gone now let's get this computer on see if we can figure out what happened to the cruise control now as you can see it's got all kinds of bells and whistles and the owner just said took him a month to not operate all this stuff but hey he figured it out you know it's a Ford it's definitely not an EU Ford the ones they read them fast now is F150 55 liter automatic now while we're waiting this is a six-speed automatic and he can get 19 miles a gallon if he's going 65 miles an hour relatively amusing because if you watch the video I made on the brand new Toyota Tundra that was the twin turbo V6 also a hybrid they only got 19 miles to Colorado Highway and this is a big old V8 so the myth that they tell you all the V6 is Turbo Hybrid is going to give you better gas mileage that's not true and if this was a 10-speed automatic like the newer ones it would get even better gas mileage so don't always fall for the crap that oh V6 is better gas mileage and with a hybrid even better hey he only got 19. same as this thing gets was a conventional normally aspirated V8 engine and only a six-speed transmission so put that in your pipe and smoke it we'll go through the whole fault scan of everything we'll look around you can see it's got all the bells and whistles got four-wheel drive Towing 8 million bells and whistles and buttons you can look ahead there's 12 codes so he really wants to know about the cruise control so we'll start on the bottom end Imaging processing module the vision system camera so the vision system camera in the front bumper has broken and here we go with the genius machine it says the alignment or adjustment is incorrect okay which makes sense the thing's bent right so the first thing you want to do with something like this is go to a good body shop have them bend it out and that might fix the whole thing now could have broken the camera but it does say alignment or adjustment incorrect if it would have broken the camera it would say no data it would say it had lost power and it lost ground so it's bent and that's why it's not working anymore so he's gonna have to get that on better that might fix the whole thing We'll erase it we know it's going to come back because it's bent but we're going to look at all the other codes and if you notice the code came right back because it knows it's bent it's not a stupid system so we'll check some other ones they'll probably all be related heads up display lost communication with cruise control module we don't know it might be more than bench if it lost communication being bent you're not going to lose it's just going to have the wrong angle it's a lost communication odds are some wires are probably broken down there too been whacked and then went back on so we'll erase that one and see what happens we'll see if it immediately comes back like the other one did it didn't come right back so maybe it isn't all right here we go there's another one over here seat control module the multi-contour seat switch input so maybe the switch is a little dirty or something who knows he's not complaining the seat moves try the next one front control interface module lost communication with instrument panel cluster accessory protocol invalid data from electronic control module invalid data received from restraint control module well we got a bunch of weird data he did have his battery change we don't know some of it might have to do with that but right we'll go to the powertrain control module it's got a code and it's looking up the code look at that code we have before lost communication with cruise control module so I will erase that let's see what's happening okay it's not a hard code so that could have been just it got whack it went crazy and now it's not so we got one two three four more to check instrument panel control module again it's the same code lost communication with cruise control module so we'll erase that too all right code that didn't go away so you know the cruise control module is losing communication it's probably A Warrior's been damaged power steering control module he said it's steering okay but invalid data received from interlock brake system module a all right so now I'm really assuming there's probably some wiring damage and stuff that's gone because your interlock brake system is tied in with your cruise control if your brake system goes whack all the cruise control will not allow itself to turn on and of course as all cars are they got a sensor on your brake pedal so that when you stop on your brake with the cruise control on it turns the cruise control up so you don't go flying into someone so there's two more occupant classification system module well I thought you were supposed to classify people anymore well that's supposed to be the same lost communication with C control module H so it's saying that it's not controlling to the seat modules I all these systems are tied in together yeah when a racing didn't come back at least so we got one more and that's anti-lock braking system which we already saw codes for so it'll probably be the same thing pause Communications cruise control module so we'll erase that too see if it comes back right away or not and that's a hard code too so it's obviously lost communication it keeps finding it it runs itself if you heard this was running all kinds of stuff every time you check them on Fords they got to run through the system to see if there's a hard code so it's got these hard codes now we know some kind of damage has happened from that whack and there might be more than just bent Parts but what we really want to do is see what kind of shape this thing is for them so we will go to the powertrain control module start it up [Music] and we shall look at live data all right remember it's color-coded black is good check it out even has an output fault for your AC if it gets a problem with just the air conditioning clutch it's got no fault now all right we're in the A's we got a long way to go let's see see that's all working the actual turbine chip speed 795 792 but the output is zero because we're not moving now they got the barometric pressure and battery voltage 13.11 it's just idling that's good if you know anything about Fords a lot of them had problems with their variable valve timing systems on the cams well local Ford's done they put software in and it shows you bank one exhaust no fault Bank One intake no fault Bank two no fault I will give it to four because they had more problems with those cam sensors than the variable valve timing go a lot of guys will get those kits and they'll get lockout kits so they're no longer variable well this particular year didn't have any particular problems but if it did this is going to show you that it did instead of wondering yeah I wonder what's doing that yeah most guys have no idea how to test out variable valve timing well the machine does it for you got the equivalency ratio close to perfect you get the cylinder head temperature I think I'm lying about complexity look at this DTC p2610 was set because engine off timer did not agree with the ECU clock Hardware but it has no fault well you're gonna have to find some nerd mechanics these days let me tell you this does a lot of stuff but you still got to know what you're messing with when you're attempting to fix them when they do break down if that's at fault oh boy then it's fun trying to figure out where it's coming from no misfires check this out engine oil pressure sensor unreliable no fault I gotta say that's excellent software because the other day I had to change the oil pressure sensor on my grandson's old Condor it's got like 250 000 miles on it right and I guessed well I think it said I fixed it and it did fix it right well in this case you don't have to guess his would work now well if this one inside the oil pressure sensor was on arrival it said fault you know that it was unreliable over time and you change it without having to guess I charge you your fan controller say it was overeating a little bit not getting bad well you could have a lower high speed fault this doesn't have any but if it did you would know that system had a problem with a fuel pump there's no Faults you have to sit there wandering and wondering The Machine's testing it the whole time check it out fuel tank pressure transducer status no fault not only does it give you the fuel pressure here in digital or analog form whatever you want it also tells you if the transducer that's giving the information is starting to wear out now I gotta say it's pretty top mounted software this is a variable fuel pump you can see we're just idling so it's only going at 32 percent let's drive it up a little [Music] doesn't have to go up all that much really they are complex fuel pumps by running at lower speeds guess what they last longer the old problem of fuel pumps breaking down in American cars is more or less a thing in the past if you stick with the OEM Factory once because they don't have to work as hard very rarely are people driving these things at a hundred percent load you know yeah you drive this thing 100 some miles an hour all the time I don't think so what kinds of information on the transmission gears and of course this has the grill shutter on the front to get better gas modules close it to get better gas mileage open it when it gets too hot injectors none of them have faults you have the automatic engine idle shut down now you can bypass it if you want I don't particularly like them like One Bank too the fuel trim is almost perfect 0.8 minus 0.79 that's almost perfect so you can't complain on a vehicle it's got 98 663 miles on it then it's almost perfect solenoid pressures if you had a transmission problem you can see they're all black they're all normal one of them was red you know that's something to look at but he's really not having any problems gives y'all the torque output if that wasn't free that would have been a very expensive job the variable cam timing there's no Faults on any of them that system's working perfectly Ford has obviously figured out the problems that they used to have so let's take it for Spin and as you can see it's got the nice setup it's got a good backup camera but it also has the 360. so when we're backing up we're not going to whack into any of the lines in the back of the driveway it all moves so you're not going to whack into things or even if you know how to drive maybe your wife doesn't not believe it or not he's still got the original tires on this thing he doesn't drive that slow so boy let's take a look at the making of those tires when we get off and yes it has that V8 noise it's a real pickup truck I don't like those turbo sixes I just don't and of course you're Alpine Air there's a lot of room in the back seat it's an F-150 where Ford makes all their money not in their electric ones though now here we go our little drag strip we'll get to the starting block here and blast off and here we go listen to that V8 smooth shifting who needs a radio no that's where Ford excels big old trucks with V8 engines you don't need turbochargers you don't need superchargers you just need an engine that's made to last 98 000 miles it doesn't burn oil runs fine transmission still shifts like a dream now granted it is a six-speed automatic a lot of people whine about the 10-speed automatics and granted the early one shifted like crap and even the newer ones they're still kind of sloppy 10 speeds seem to be an iffy thing in the manufacturing business they they always seem to be off someone they aren't rough enough or they're too sloppy the sixes stay these things are down pat when you want to go fast you step on the gas and there it goes no hesitation no lumpy no waiting it just goes so there you have it an excellent truck almost 100 000 miles now he did have to have the torque converter replaced and they kind of screwed him over at the Ford dealer because they told them oh yeah yeah it needs a tune-up thing you got tune-ups got Iranian plugs and it go a couple hundred thousand miles probably of course they didn't fix it but then he found a garage that knew what they were doing he had the warranty they replaced the torque converter and it takes the problem it's a known problem on these things torque converters do wear out on them but the transmission still shifts like a dream doesn't burn oil and hey he gets 19 miles a gallon on a highway going 65. that's what the guy got and that Tundra that was a hybrid V6 so excellent trucks and for those of you that do not like the 10 speeds and the slip in and the weird acceleration and having always put it on power mode because it's shift sloppy it's got a six-speed that's pretty indestructible you might want to even get an older one just because of the transmission did it so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that Bell
