all right so what we're gonna do today is a camshaft housing correction on a 5.43 valve triton ford motor this is going to apply for a 4.6 also common failure on these things its loss of all pressure it destroys the camshafts we have a bad camshaft here that's eight up in a brand new camshaft to show the damage on the journals and what happens to these things when it develops slow old pressure so we're going to most people don't rebuild these motors because the heads are hard to repair and this is where the actual loss of all pressure happens is in the cylinder head itself Darabont has come out with a kit to where we can come in here and we can line bore the cylinder heads and we can actually add in a very small camshaft bearing looks like a little baby connecting rod bearing and once we bore the holes out larger in the head we'll end up with a smooth finish on the cap and the caps will now look like this instead of looking like this the steel camshaft actually cuts into the cylinder head and it with the valve spring pressure below the camshaft it's always pushing up on the camshaft cap and it wears the cap instead of wearing the head the caps are not available from Ford and so this is one of the processes where we can either line bore it and go with an oversized camshaft or we have to blind board and we install the replaceable bearings which i think is a better option because in the future if this were to happen again we can actually just replace the bearing insert instead of having to replace the whole camshaft which requires the removal of the front of the motor want to do this repair you'll only have to pull your camshaft caps and we will be able to replace the bearings and restore oil pressure we just installed the two centering bushings for the the line boring bar here in just a minute I'm going to go ahead and run down the rest of the cam alright so we're gonna continue with setting up the line boring bar and cutting the first of the three center journals [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and it takes a half inch drill to power the boring bar once you start the boring process you do not back up or turn backwards the carbide bit because it can hurt the bit and it can hurt the head so you have to drill all the way through thinking that we're gonna start right here we're using a w44 cutting fluid [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so that's the first three cam journals that are done now we've got to take a break for a second reset the boring bar and we'll be able to do the into two end caps alright now we're gonna have to install some of the bearings into the center journals to hold the boring bar [Music] and we will have to cut the tangs to hold the bearings in place [Applause] [Applause] [Music] this is just kind of a real small file that has the right size for cutting the tang to hold the bearing [Applause] there's one [Applause] and it does not take much at all to cut the little slot in there to hold the bearings [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] that's one done [Music] you [Music] you you know I mentioned about the Pharaohs and there in case you can do that you know they shouldn't they shouldn't need to knock them out putting in the file right next to the to keep everything in place works just fine all right so now we've got the last two I'm gonna scoot this down a little bit seed let me get a tight first place and here we go we're going to cut position number one now now we're gonna switch the cutter and do position for five for five [Applause] you passed it you you [Music] [Music] here we've got the cam bearings installed in the cylinder head we've got cam bearings are all installed into the caps we're going to do a test fit of a new cam I'm just going to apply a little bit of light oil most of us know it as WD and now we're going to run these things down and [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] it has taken approximately 4.4 foot-pounds to rotate the new cam in the new bearings in the head and now we're down to four foot pounds the more that we turn it is probably going to get less and less as everything kind of seats together [Applause] and that's it let's take a take a look at the cam bearings see what they look like real quick you and one more bearing showing real light scuff marks but that was wd-40 and not motor oil so and that's that
