esteemed pleasure of being your host this evening for our long-awaited footprints of hope series my name is michelle murdock and my name is shane ray brown and we are coming to you live from new york i'm excited to be your host tonight as we begin the footprints of hope series a city-wide gospel series an international gospel series i think everyone will admit that these past 19 months or so have been quite challenging it's been a difficult time for many people we had difficult experiences difficult times and many people had difficult questions and many found themselves searching for hope and so it is our imperative as preachers of the gospel to remind christians and soon-to-be christians old and young men and women from far and wide that there is hope in jesus and with the aid of technology god has allowed us to bring to you live from montego bay jamaica a spirit-filled dynamic preacher of the gospel dr glenn samuels now many people are wondering what happened last night what happened last night well we were on stage just like we are now ready to greet you just like we did and without warning the in the entire internet system went down in fact internet service went down in our community and nearby communities there was simply nothing we could have done to prevent it or correct it we sincerely apologize to you but despite this setback we still had a wonderful worship experience here in this place the people of god came out we gathered and they were ready to worship internet or no internet and i saw so many of you doing the same on social media this was truly a testament that god always always gets the glory amen we know that the enemy of souls in this great controversy desires to block god's work and stop god's people in their way but that cannot happen the enemy will never win and so what we learned in this experience is that what the devil meant for evil god turned it around for good what the devil thought would have discouraged us god used to inspire us amen brother shane so here's what you can expect this evening in our program we will be blessed by the music ministries of the philadelphia praise team and also the musical talents of sister nisha walcott also on our exciting lineup tonight uh dr rowan wellington from the north american division will introduce our speaker tonight and pastor sean orter will do intercessory prayer however before they come to us we will have greetings from the president of the atlantic union conference dr g earl knight and greetings as well from the executive secretary of the greater new york conference dr i am also excited that my friend pastor glenn samuel is the evangelist i do pray that the holy spirit will be manifested throughout these meetings and many souls will come to know jesus as lord and the savior so on behalf of the atlantic union conference administration we welcome the ministry of pastor glenn samuel to our territory evangelist glenn samuel has been a household name in this union because of his global ministry so we are happy that he is willing to be used by god to impact the lives of so many people here in this union and i just pray that god will bless you and to keep you and this series is for you i also want to extend a welcome on behalf of the greater your conference and the english ministries and the pastoral team here in this greater new york conference i i've been tasked with a special responsibility this evening but just before i get to that i think it's important for me to share some information with you now you know you can't predict every moment of life yeah yesterday we were here and we had everything set you know everything was was a good to go the the host they were on stage uh everything was tested cameras was tested they were tested the sound was tested uh the praise team was in place everything was just ready to go but the devil showed up and knocked the internet out but i am here to testify tonight that we may be knocked down but we are not knocked out somebody ought to say amen because tonight we are coming to you live and we pray that you will be blessed by the message that our guest speaker will be bringing to us live in person even through this virtual network which leads me to a very unique privilege and responsibility we are asking you to do we're asking you to join us on this journey over the next two weeks we want you told you he loves the lord number two he loves his family his wife and his three children three daughters beautiful daughters and thirdly he loves mission he loves to see somebody accept jesus christ undiluted word of god with clarity and simplicity so even a child can understand thank you honeybunch i shall follow your instruction tonight our topic is when it is not enough when it is not enough maybe you've bought toys for your kids have seen stores by the name toys r us you walk in there and you find a wide variety of toys when it is not enough have you ever bought a toy for your son your daughter may be a fancy playstation and uh they have been fascinated with it but but but as they grew older and as they get into other stuff the tour you bought the stuff that they couldn't do without just discover that it is not enough maybe that that you yourself can identify with our topic tonight when it is not enough you you thought that when you get past grade school into high school you'll feel better you'll you'll feel more accomplished you'll you'll get that little ache to go away that that hole in your heart that's something that you can't put your finger all you know is that there is this empty space that is there when you tell yourself that i can just wait to get out of grade school into high school ah but you need in your last year and you'll say well well well well maybe maybe college will fix it maybe a university will fix when new york city is blessed with some of the finest universities but you got into university and you discover it's not quite what you thought it was promising you and so that that quest for it that quest for it is is elusive in its nature it has haunted multi-ethnic and multicultural and multi-generational society it has haunted the rich and the poor it has bewildered super intellectual giant it has fallen to the young people it has haunted old people it has haunted the mind of the online it has all that all of us and we are searching for it and we discover the more research is the more we discover it seemed never to be enough what is it by the way what is it uh that is that if there are some commonalities to it in this progressively rich aggressive society yes i did say it in this progressively retrogressive society where we seem to be manufacturing one human ingenuity after another all begin with disregard of god a disregard of those values that we were brought up in and somehow the world is fast becoming a value-less society this nebulous emptiness that that's that's causing a yearning that never seemed to end when it is not enough the word of god said in luke 12 and verse 15 hear the word jesus addressing a [Music] domestic history between brothers he said listen a man's life luke 12 15 a man's life consists of not in the abundance of the things he possesses of all the things he will amass ask steve jobs of all the intellect he will pull together ask that german scholar who would pack german pauls and even while germany is counting its votes trying to find a new leader are trying to find somebody after merkel to lead them into discovering it discovering that it that will pull their society together yes this intellectual giant would would flex his face against god and all the stuff that he was brought upon and they would come by the hundreds yeah to hear him in his sophistry to hear him in his so-called super intellect mock the god of the christian faith but on his deathbed my girls love to hear this story on his deathbed all the lights are now gone the theater is now gone he's lying on his deathbed and all the stuff he chased after he discovered in this moment it is never enough when he screamed out in his last breath it wasn't covered but he was gasping for breath he screamed out no ventilator could help him now he screamed out come back come back my unknown god come back all the streams of my heart they yearn after you come back come back my unknown god because i can't die without you what do you do when you discover it is not enough what do you do when you discover it is not enough i'm glad you asked you see it was never meant to be enough the stuff that god has blessed us with was never intended to take the place of god in our lives ah we value things and use people in this rich aggressive society we change our jobs we change our schools we change our hairstyle we change our world we change our spouses we change our knowledge we change our disposition we change our sex position we change our marriage partner we change all of us stuff and we discover it is not enough we can't stranded this yearning this yearning we we move from one job to another we move from one place to another we move from one friend to another we move we move we move we move from one stop to another we change our cars we thought if i get a better car i think better we move we move from one stop to another we're always chasing stuff we're always chasing stuff we're always more manufacturers more universities more hospitals more doctors more nurses more health professionals more universities i did say that in high schools the world has never seen more stuff and yet the emptiness gets worse with every passing day what do you do when you discover it is not enough well an ancient prophet by the name of jeremiah in jeremiah 9 and verse 23 has a word for this world jeremiah 9 23 he has a word for this world a world that is chasing after it a world that is always going after start the world and before i get to that i never thought that one microscopic virus could shut the whole world down planes were parked yes seemed like just yesterday dreaming millions were passing through airports with each passing day and each week busy people going here and there and then comes tough with all our learning with all our intellectual capacity with all our wealth with all our money with all our stuff the infection weight went like wildfire in dry grass from ireland to continent runways were deserted and one of my good friends and i can't call her name she handled more money than i could handle at least and she called me and she said you know sammy i have no place to wear my name ran close to all my name-brand shoes lined up a huge walk-in closet bedside swivel has become my everyday companion accessorized by my nightgown what do you do when it is not enough jeremiah chapter 9 and verse 23 the ancient prophet screaming to a godly society said let not the wise man glory in his wisdom left not the rich man glory in his riches left not the mighty man glory in his mind what a text what a text he said glory in the stuff you're chasing after and kobe 19 has taught this world there's something to jeremiah's logic there's something to jeremiah's inspiration there's something to jeremiah's proclamation and the reason there's something to it is that there's someone above the prophet someone above you someone above our world who speaks and when he speaks we've got to pay attention he was here before we got here he was here before kobe got here he was here before all the deadly diseases got here and he'll be here long after we're gone and he said let not the wise man glory in his wisdom because the stuff we're handling our wisdom our puny wisdom can't handle it the stuff we're dealing with the answers we seek what's wrong with us when we discover it it's never enough hear the preacher hear the preacher maybe right now as you sit there you're being disturbed because you know the truth of which i speak maybe you've changed all the stuff you can change and you are running out of options because you are looking in all the wrong places looking in all the wrong faces looking in all the wrong sources to find the right solution can't find the right solution in the wrong face and in the wrong place find the right solution from the wrong source so the wise man has a word for you before i get to him let me again recount to you what jeremiah said and you can juxtapose that against the maladies of our time you can juxtapose the words of the ancient prophet let not the wise man glory and his wisdom summon all the wise men and watch as cove adapts in the first year of coved piled up with morgues running out of spaces because they can't store the mounting dead let not the mighty man glory in his might because on a ventilator he discover his human strength pales into insignificant not the mighty man glory in his might heavyweight champions discovered the boxing rings were empty because coved was the new heavyweight champion that not the feminine charming dazzling beautiful one goes to beauty because kofi knew no respect all of persons masculine naturalism feminine charm and protitude human wisdom see never enough because when we think we have the right answer we've got to keep on adding to it because the stuff keeps eluding us so the word of the living god to the ancient prophet the ninth chapter on the 23rd verse he said let not the wise man glory in his wisdom because you'll come upon stuff that your wisdom can't handle let not the mighty man glory in his mind could i add could i add could i add let not the prancings frankly agile youth glory in his agility in his youthfulness let not the agile independent youth glory in his or her independence because here we are in this 21st century multicultural multi-racial multi-ethnic independent of god so we think we discover now there's stuff that we can't handle without him what do you do when it is not enough suicidal ideation climbs suicidal rage among young people and surprisingly even among folk in the medical profession and business persons check the facts for yourself the stuff we chase after what do you do when you discover you burnt all your hopes on it but it is never enough any young people the staff of pleasure madness we drawn ourselves in liquor and drugs and sex by the way you know i teased my friend over and over because he he was quoting a pretty girl and uh he himself was a handsome fellow and a week before the wedding day we were doing some stuff together making final plans and he looked at her and said wait until after the wedding night wait until after the wedding night and he and he boast in our presence and he said i could be in it night and day night and day night and day well i went to his church less than i think i don't know how long after he got married it wasn't it wasn't very long a few months after i think it was and he was preaching to young people you know what he said he said and he talked about himself and then he paused and said it will kill you i won't tell you what he said would kill you but i think you're wise enough to figure it out and so tell them what you said don't glory in your wisdom do glory in your strength no glory in your wealth and i would add do glory in your beauty don't glory in your agility don't glory in the stuff down here and if you have not yet learned yet from covet 19 worse than covet is about to break on the horizon it's time to learn your lesson humanity the 24th verse of the ninth chapter of dramaale said whoever glories let him glory in this well what is it god that he understand them and knoweth me the lord god who exercises loving kindness who resonates judgment of the earth the judgment of god is in the earth because mankind has flexed his face in the face of god and we are reaping the whirlwind we are reaping the deeds but hear me in the midst of our mass god seeks to bring a message to you and there's something about the goodness of god in the midst of our human wreckage it is the love that will not let us go the love that comes chasing after us ah you see beloved acts 17 one of the most brilliant youngster in the new testament one of the most brilliant minds of the 27 books of the new testament paul wrote 13 of them some folk wonder whether or not he wrote hebrew i think he wrote hebrew but hear me hear me in acts 17 and verse 28 he said it is in him the great i am it is in him the suffering it is in him the greater shall i it is in him the almighty god it is in him alone we live and move and have our being i heard a song that says every breath i take every move i make well let me tell you something every breath you take every move you make you are the recipients of the mercy of the living god i'm almost done i'm almost done when i tell you on this opening evening i'm going straight to the chase i tell you on this opening evening with death and destruction all around us with stuff that's baffling the minds of government the minds of presidents and prime ministers the minds of great leaders the stuff that's baffling our minds the stuff that's baffling the youngster and the old stuff the stuff that's baffling the married and the unmarried the stuff of sparkling the super intellectual giant and the grossly in uh lacking of intelligence the stuff that baffling us seek to help us understand it's time to pay him some attention it's in him alone we live and move and have our being and on this opening night i come straight i'm going to tell you at the end of this week god has sent me first of all tonight to serve notice on those who once walked with jesus you know who you are you know where you've been you know where you are you know the yearning in your heart you know you're in desperate places you know it's more than church membership you need back a living relationship with a living god and i come tonight to serve you notice this coming weekend this coming saturday seven days from the day you have an appointment back with the living god in the water of baptism because all the stuff you're chasing after looking in all the wrong places looking to all the wrong persons looking in all the wrong phases trying to look in the face of jesus look upon jesus sinless is he because god provided for you a righteousness that you can't work after father impute christ's righteousness and to use for this coming week and hear me back try to hear me this coming saturday seven days from today and and seven is god's number of completeness seven is god's number of perfection and he wants to complete the work that the holy ghost has become in you he wants to bring your life to completion he wants to bring your life to wholeness there is no end down here that will ever be enough you can go from one sex partner to another be male or female you can dance the night away you can live your life in pleasure madness but you will discover that it is not enough you can change your job you can get a better job paying you better money but you'll discover it is not enough you may look here and look there and search here and search there but you'll discover until the search leads you to jesus christ it is never going to be enough you can change your bed you can change your hair style you can change your spread you can change your shoes you can change your suit you can change your water you can change your friends you can change your location you can change your house you can change your car but there's something deep on the inside that's bothering you that you can't change without the power of the living god the night he's available is available i'm almost done but i've got to tell you one of my favorite stories i mean the brother was bad i mean i see some guys in my world they are trying to catch him up i said they're trying to catch him up ah well they thought that the more girls they had the more satisfied they'll become and so in the words of that old song they have one uptown and one downtown one over here and one over there one in the bronx and one in the queens one on long islands one in brooklyn but there it is come on it is never enough so hear what he says i'm going to ecclesiastes i'm going to ecclesiastes i'm going to the second chapter i'm going to the second chapter hear what he says i'm talking about solomon you see uh quickly he had 700 wives i mean seven with two zeroes behind it and as if that wasn't enough the bible said he has 300 spare tires now the last time i checked there were only 365 days in each year so if he had 1 000 it means that even if he should see or sleep with two of them each day with a year he couldn't complete the lot he tried money he tried women he tried sex he tried music he tried everything but let me say to you from his own lips i'm reading ecclesiastes chapter two and uh he said here in verse one i said in my heart come now he was talking to himself come now self i will test you with mercy for enjoy pleasure but charlie he said it's kind of he said i i set up laughter it is madness i search in my heart how to gratify my flesh with wine while guiding my heart with wisdom and how how to lay hold and folly till i might see what was good for the sons of men to do under heaven verse 4 i made me work so great i made me great works i built myself houses i planted myself vineyards i made myself gardens and orchards i planted all kinds of fruit trees in them i made myself water pots from which to water the growing trees of the group i acquired male and female servants i had servants born in my house i imported servants i had greater possessions of birds and flocks of and all who were in jerusalem before me i also gathered for myself silver and gold and special treasure of kings of provinces i acquired male and female singers i delight also the delights of the sons of men i have musical instruments and players of all kind verse nine and so i became great and excel more than all who were before me also my wisdom remained in me whatever my eyes desired i did not keep from them i did not withhold from my heart any pleasure from my heart rejoice in all my labor and this was my reward from all my labor i looked on all the works that my hands had done and looked another label in which i had told i looked at all my pleasure i lost all my money i looked at all the stuff i have and he cried out vanity affinity all his variety it has not worked it has not satisfied i had more wives and more concubines more music women wine and song i allowed myself to progress retrogressively i disregarded the counsel of god and i asked myself why is it that i was wiser than all the sons of man i closed the bible because he drew a conclusion in the same book of the 12th chapter ecclesiastes 12 he said remember your creator in the days of your youth that's how he begins that powerful chapter and then towards the end in 1314 he said listen let us let us black and white rich and poor let us young and old let us with our 2 million or 22 million followers on our twitter page let us with our facebook following numbering in the millions let us with our instagram page let us let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter he said i've been there i've done that i've chased after what you're chasing after i've gotten more than you ever dreamed to have but it's a bubble that burst because it was never meant to take the place of god so he said fear god and keep his commandments for this is the whole duty of man the god not the staff not the playstation not your computer not your twitter page not your facebook following not your youtube following for god shall bring every work into judgment with every secret thing you're looking in the wrong places you're looking in the wrong faces you're trying the wrong stuff for right solution the answer is only in the living god you may flex your face in his face but he's still god turn your back on him he's still god burn up the bible burn down the churches shoot all the preachers he's still god he is god almighty plus nothing minus nothing he does not need my vote to be god nor does he need the vote of congress to be god the things we replace them with they have not satisfied there's still an emptiness there's still an aching void there's still something we are good at what we do professionally but even our professional super excellence cannot satisfy that deep longing there is an empty place there's an empty load an empty spot we need you god so trying to takes a mountain light covey to help us
