[Music] yes [Applause] once again well hello there from san diego the start of day two of the jazz guys week of chaos in this video i will be flying aboard arguably the best economy in the united states on alaska airlines 737 900 er up to their home base of seattle washington now before i go into how great alaska is in this video and there'll be plenty of that i need to mention why i'm here as i couldn't make the airline's inaugural flight of the 737 max 9 in march of 2021 i decided to book a flight aboard their max here up to seattle before heading over to montana unfortunately alaska switched my aircraft to the 900 er on the day i shot this so to say i was disappointed would be an understatement but i've always loved alaska and i knew it'd still be a great flight so now that the negatives are out of the way time to show y'all why this 737 900 economy is so good welcome to san diego international airport's terminal 2 where all airlines except for southwest sun country frontier and spirit or shall we say spontier depart from while alaska airlines does have a focus city here at san they are not the largest carrier that would go by far to southwest while i haven't yet been over to terminal 1 this alaska concourse i found to be quite nice as i arrived to my gate this morning without an aircraft here yet the gate areas have an abundance of plugs and usb ports on each seat and the windows are large and dotless providing for nice natural light to spread indoors and good views of airport activity outside filming myself check the flight info here is when i finally came to the realization i would not be on a max and so i sat i pondered for a bit accepted the inevitable fact a 900 would show up soon got up went over to a window and saw my plane [Applause] and 461as would be the aircraft taking me up to seattle today a march 2014 built boeing 737 900 er that has spent all seven years of its life up to the day this was shot flying for alaska airlines out of the five 737 models alaska has in their fleet this 900 er model makes up the majority of it and it also has the second youngest average age next to the max 9. since at this point alaska had joined the one world alliance i got the board with group b out of their five boarding groups using my one world ruby status we ended up boarding right on time about 20 minutes before departure and as i approached the door we were greeted with a brand new one world sticker making me really appreciate my status with american that much more alaska also arguably has the best domestic first class product as well but that's for another video there are 16 first class seats up front here followed by 24 premium class seats which have additional legroom and added amenities and finally 138 economy seats culminating to 178 seats on this 737 900 er i will be sitting in 26 f for this flight next to a really nice family i don't know what it is about these alaska economy seats they certainly don't look all that comfy or stylish for that matter but they a hundred percent are trust me i've spent a long time upwards of eight hours in these seats and my butt never got sore they are reclinable from the button on the armrests and have adjustable headrests when sitting down the enormous amount of legroom is immediately noticeable for six foot me and with no one in the middle seat this will be a very relaxing flight up to seattle today on the seat back is a small netted pocket down below a universal power outlet usb port the tray table obviously and a literature pouch up top with the safety card and in-flight menu and guide inside this flight was extremely full today so i got very lucky with one of the only empty middle seats when i fly alaska there's just something about these boeing aircraft that feels right versus their acquired virgin airbuses or regional q400 and e-175s it just feels like alaska airlines and it feels awesome as we'll see later in the flight the cabin is equipped with mood lighting along with large overhead bins and slightly larger windows only negative is well mine's kind of scratched and dirty which is unlike alaska but now that we are all boarded up time to taxi over to sans lone runway for takeoff [Music] right [Music] unfortunately today wasn't the best day for city gazing and views of the coast due to some clouds but we're now on our way up to seatac our route on this alaska flight will take us 2 hours and 32 minutes going almost straight north over nearly the entirety of california a sliver of nevada much of oregon and finally the state of washington our crews will be 36 000 feet or almost 11 000 meters thankfully alaska isn't as stingy as their new us partner in crime american airlines so time to get ready and open up the tray table which has two cup grooves is extendable and adequately sized everything that's available on the flight can be found in this guide pamphlet including what those new partners of alaska are the drinks and snacks about to be served to all passengers along with how to connect to their wi-fi and free entertainment and of course their credit card info on this ride flight attendants handed out a choice of beverage either hot or cold and this savory snack mix bag it's by the same company that does united's pretzels so if you like the taste of those you'll probably like these as well we also got a purell hand sanitizing wipe and for my drink i chose some hot tea which can come in either black or mint on alaska i decided to try the british style tea i've grown to love with a mint tea bag this time let's just say i shall not be doing that again as for the snack mix it's decent and certainly is probably a healthier option versus say southwest snack mix but i don't know i think i'd have to take the love airline in this department [Applause] [Music] so [Music] so going up the west coast isn't as drastic of a change in scenery as going trans con but it certainly offers more excitement than flying up and down the east coast besides looking out the window at those gorgeous views austin powers occupied the rest of my time along with talking to the mother i was sitting next to i often get questions from you guys asking if the people i sit with on all these flights want to know what the heck i'm filming constantly and the answer is not really but whoever does ask it's usually a good conversation starter and that's what kinda happened on this flight [Music] and now for a look at alaska's free in-flight entertainment system as you can tell there are no personal tvs on these planes probably the only negative about their hard product but fear not as everyone has a touch screen in their pocket wi-fi on today's flight was 10 which compared to others is an average price besides entertainment which i'll get to in a second the home page can take you to flight tracker which also has some general details below and your destination's weather thank goodness i'm not flying to seattle tomorrow now entertainment scrolling down a bit and i find all of alaska's movies they offer it's quite a substantial list especially considering on a flight like this we can only get one full movie in same goes for tv shows just below i did pretty much finish up watching austin powers which took me right up to washington and our initial descent [Music] [Music] like i said in the beginning this was a super relaxing flight today with alaska and before we knew it commencement bay appeared below indicating our arrival into the seattle area [Music] one last thing about the cabin it's just a small detail but a very important one for me the native alaskan designs on the bulkheads and dividers is always a super cool feature when flying this airline and differentiates them from everyone else when you see that you know you're on alaska if only i could be going to alaska today but that would come just under two months later happen to me without a [Music] warning steps every morning [Music] now [Applause] and i need to change the pacific northwest my favorite region of the lower 48 and also where i'll be staying for the next few days but not here in washington after that super scenic final approach into sea tax runway one six right this awesome alaska flight up the coast has come to an end so is it the best economy class in the u.s look don't take my wordport i'm just one person who travels a lot but i would say absolutely the comfort alone far outweighs jetblue or delta's personal touchscreens even though i would love to see it added on alaska but if that means squeezing more seats on or reducing legroom like jetblue continues to do then i'd say don't add tvs keep it the same it's really something to me how alaska and american are now partners because the two experiences you get are so different but hey i'll take it i do absolutely need to catch a ride on alaska's max jets though because i do hear quite often they're even better which is why i booked this flight in the first place but anyway next time i'll be on this aircraft would be for a night flight across the country so we shall see if alaska will stack up to be the best still later in the jazz guys week of chaos [Music] um [Music] well and that will conclude my first ride of the day up to seattle and my travels with alaska this week of chaos will continue with seattle's second largest airline i hope you guys enjoyed this video up the west coast on the 737 900 er thank you for watching and catch you on the next one [Music] you
