Five Weeks in a Backpack // Packing my Osprey Farpoint 40 // Minimalist Packing

welcome back to my youtube channel I'm Haley this is going to be the packing video I am shoving off to Greece for five weeks and like four or five days at this point and super excited and I'm taking everything that I need for those five weeks I'm carrying it on in a backpack I didn't want to check a bag I didn't want to worry about losing luggage I just wanted to have everything with me at all times so I'm packing everything for five weeks away into a backpack and this is gonna be the video in which I show you how I do so I've been watching a lot of videos on people packing backpacks for lengths of trips kind of two weeks plus away and what they kind of need so this is gonna be what I've kind of determined that I need there's gonna be a lot of things that I'm able to pick up when I go there just in case you kiss your little head so much like what's on a plane right so there are going to be a few things I'll pick up on there but for the most part these are the things that I've deemed essential that I am packing and I'm schlepping around on my back like a little Sherpa and I'm super excited so the bag of choice just grab it for you little bit here it's fully packed this is my panic we should give it a name something whimsical maybe I'll call him Stuart this is my Osprey Farpoint 40 in the gray charcoal D color it's a 40 litre bag and it has in it to everything that I need for an entire month and a month in a bit five weeks oh my gosh so it's it's pretty heavy I think I weighed it where your live 22 pounds I had it when I first packaged it was 28 but we had to wait to do some cruising around but I've got it under 20 20 now so that's good so it's not gonna be too bad to carry on my back but again this is it so let's get to the fun bit of me showing you how I got everything I need inside this bad boy I also the day pack this is a Schroth um just a really flimsy light backpack and it folds into itself into a pocket that's like this big and my original plan was just to throw this in the backpack and then use it as needed when I'm there as a de Becque but all said and done everything that was in this backpack was the weight was too much for a carry-on on the airline I'm flying so you're allowed a carry-on baggage item which is this one and then you're a lot of personal items so this one is going to be my professional item now and things like my laptop and anything I need with like really easy access on the plane is gonna go in this bag so I'll also show you what I keep in here and everything that is in here also fits in the backpack so it all fits in there as just the question of the weight situation so if I have the personal item separate I'm able to get the carry-on bag under the amount of weight allowed at the airline I'm flying which is criminally low E so let's get into the details of all the things I'm packing for my five-week adventure so here's it all laid out here's everything everything that's going in the backpack as well as the carry-on and personal item thinking or whatnot over here I'll start with the personal item make a reason for it being that I need to pack my laptop this is my lovely laptop right here and it's a cork so what would you do with it in the carry bag is I which we wrapped in this sweater doesn't actually have a case for it because it's not way that will be nice and safe being jostle around and then I can pull it out fairly easily when they not just swab it at the airport in that day bag it's also charger which put in my phrasebook which is not the most necessary ever because I do have a Google Translate on my my phone ok so this hopefully will help me quite a bit very handy tool I don't know why I didn't know this existed until quite recently but that's very fun so I'll bring this just in case but if I need to chuck it for any reason then we'll do but I've had this since last time I went in 2006 so I couldn't not bring it also got a behemoth of a book which I really shouldn't need but again I've had it since 2006 and it's got some really handy references I've got a lot of islands that they're going to be going to so I'm going to bring this because it's fun and so both of those are going to go in my day bag along with this just middle book and there should be a pin in it somewhere so that I can fill out all that crap on the plane that you need to fill out come on I'm gonna have this pile of snacks over here I've got some fruit dried fruit things a whack of protein virus and some dried apricots because I love a little front pouch my day bag and if anyone tries to rob me they're just going to get dried apricots they'll be very disappointed yes that's it oh I like my headphones headphones this is my coach the rain jacket I wanted all the coach go in the pocket my wallet in the pocket and then the camera that I'm filming on right now is also gonna go in the other pocket so I've got everything on my purse in there and we're about on the plane along with my outfit this here is my plane outfit so sweater pair of jeans coat then you move into the more serious business stuff over here so I went along the packing cube route and I am very happy about it about some about two medium sized packing cubes and then two small ones how many of the large ones the large packing cube is about the same size of the inside and so that seemed to me like not the most useful use of the space so I like the medium ones and the small ones if you're looking into getting packing cubes for a backpack just know that the large ones aren't entirely necessary so this one is all my pants show you so I've got these are called the clothes they're gonna have for a month I've got a dress a pair of like a pantsuit thing like a pants and t-shirt romper a sort of situation sleep shorts one pair of shorts one pair of leggings one pair of like wringing pants that are like you know fluffy material and then a pair of harem pants there and this is just a denim boyfriend shirt so full of these these are amazing I can't believe I never go anywhere without them just a great way to like compartmentalize everything I love it this thing goes right in the bottom of the banks there's also these handy-dandy compression straps underneath which I guess is better if they're not using a pack of huge but the snugger of these are in there the better so I'm just going to give this a nice little cinch strap in there goes the next packing cube this one has a lots more room in it I could have packed more but it was the weight thing I'm worried about I could have put more I really don't want to have to pay extra the TSA so inside this package cube these are made for militaries this is all I'm bringing for toiletries and Pitts stick just some contacts there's some random tampons I've got my diva cup in there too a bunch of melatonin just because I'm worried about sleeping well and the jetlag and that sort of thing tiny ball of body wash some SPF 30 lip protection a couple of sample size face masks just for if I want to like de-stress I've got a mascara eyebrow gel lipstick that I can also double as blush because apparently I am bringing some makeup it just had to happen and then my toothbrush toothpaste and hair tie is one hair clip and a bunch of bobby pins but all that's in there it's all crammed in this one little ziploc bag for checking with sunglasses or in this case here with a cleaner fit stick said there's a pair of shoes in this packing cube these are my flats so I'm only bringing three pairs of shoes these my boots mobile instance I wear them every day all day here anyway so this is kind of excessive for me so I'm wearing these for the majority of the time great just throw some that go with everything like I don't care if I look ridiculous in a skirt I love them about the flats that are in this paddock you like we talked about and then a pair of flip-flops for you know showering and hostels as well as beaching it and and what so those are in their package you have a couple of tank tops one two tank top - nice ish t-shirts at a work t-shirt and then a little travel foldaway hairbrush that my mom let me borrow so that's so that's good and I will not have the most disgusting hair effort and then a sleeve shirt so I think that's everything for that those two medium sized packing cubes kind of stack on top of each other as the first layer really nicely and then down the side there's a little bit of space I'm gonna shove in my shoes these are my miry flip-flops I bought these in 2009 and they've been going strong ever since I was the good and ever buy and other plants that are not leaves because they're formed to my feet and they have literally lasted like over a decade those are going in there good show I've got her work gloves here who knows what home they're coming so there's the zippered compartment on the top of this I don't think I'm going to put anything in it I might use it for like dirty clothes and laundry and stuff for later but I don't think space wise once you start putting stuff into this front pocket up here it gets a little tight so I'm just gonna leave that there for now and then the next two packing cubes is one this one here is very exciting I've got a sports bra I've got a bandeau bra I will wear my only underwire bra on the plane because they're just so big and they take up so much space when you've got boobs so it just makes sense to wear them on the plane I've got five pairs of socks which does not seem like very many at all but I'll have access to washing it'll be fine and a lot of the days a little for my flats my flip-flops so don't eat socks every day so I'm not going to over pack socks and there's about six or eight pairs of underwear in there as well and then one bathing suit I was gonna bring two but again when you got boobs your bathing suits do end up taking up quite a bit of space so I think one was the right out to choose there so that's all shoved in there oh nice zip that bad boy up nice little packing cube box and then this one here is all my shirts so in here we have two tank tops I'll also be wearing a tank top on the plain underneath my sweater I have one two three four five t-shirts and a kimono and that's it for that one so like it's up there there con market in there so nice but they squish down really nice and I'm just they're really easy to work with I'm very happy with the whole packing cube system good chef because with this backpack I find things tend to be really top-heavy really easily so I do my best to put all the heavy stuff at the bottom which is good look at this this is my microfiber towel it's a huge towel but it's really thin and folds up really small let me show you so that'll be seen look at this look at this it's it's it's a giant towel so this will be great for anything I need tables for like bathing and beaching and when the aliens comment you have to hitchhike your weight freedom you always have to have your towel never leave home without a towel that folds up really easily and nicely in this little little thing it's bright orange don't lose it bill so make sure everything shoved right back there and we'll move on to the next I've also got these handy-dandy little TSA locks on here they don't necessarily need to be the TSA approved ones just because I'm not checking it so they probably won't unlock them but I do like having the locks on there so you can lock together the zippers so people can't just walk up and droop which is nice and then once you put the contraction straps over it hides and most of the zippers anyway so that's good what's the one up that next pocket a little half pocket right here so in this section you've got a really Kandi's laptop sleeve and when I'm there in the country wandering around I will 100% be putting my laptop in this particular sleeve like when we're going through your muscles and stuff but just for the plane I separating them out into two bags is the best way to go that will stay empty for now and then in front of it there's a little zippered pocket and then here I put a sock and inside this sock is my power bank charger plus you get a bonus pair of socks so my power bank is in there it's a pretty good heavy-duty one that does up to four charges which is nice peace of mind out of all the people who always forgets to charge her freaking phone and in this sock I have my hard drive which is a one terabyte hard drive I've loaded it full of entertainment for myself as well so I don't have to worry about that I'm not going any other than the guidebooks I'm not bringing any books because of space I can grab one there if I need one feel the need to read or something but or I could download one on my phone or the computer so that's that's a possibility as well but I think movies are gonna do my entertainment of choice as well as journaling I like to do that to keep myself amused so those go in there I've also got my camera battery and charger so I got a spare battery there's one inside your head right now there so about that I'll go in there I also have my converters and so the adapter and converter for the European plugs book distinguish so much stupid little thing weighs like 2 pounds but taking up space however it is a product I need to be able to charge myself next in this compartment I'm going to put this what is this for oh this is the Charter for Hedlund I've got a headlamp funny to read in the dark on a bus or something OOP that's a fun thing so that has its a charge or you don't have batteries for it so that's okay I have my phone charger as well face cloth there's a little pocket on the front here just a cute little pocket inside it my flashlight my lens and glasses cleaner I always find I need these this is a mirror but inside of it I've got extra SD cards should have enough storage between my terabyte and my 3 SD cards but you never know I also have a first-aid kit which has a bunch of tylenol in it as well very important there's Tom Bennett yeah and then this is mine under my clothes money belt my sister lent it to me thanks Lauren inside of it I currently have pet support so but euros oh and the keys for my TSA lock so I'll be wearing that my Gorillapod I'm just gonna slide into the cover on the front and this will go in the daybed all that left to do is zip up the the person straps just to keep everything really tight and snug back here we go she's packed so that is my backpack for my trip clothes I'm wearing on the plane cote de bag which I get when I'm wearing the backpack I can just sling that over my shoulder like a continental soldier and it works okay and then my boots that I'm wearing flats everything that's what I'm ringing for five weeks away I'm not too concerned if there's something I desperately need I can't just go buy it but for the most part I think I have all the essentials that I could ever possibly need and if I'm forgetting something really obvious let me know the camera which I'm filming on will also come my canon g7x mark - it'll come and it'll just go in my coat pocket when I'm using it and then in the day bag when I'm not so so that's that so let me throw everything on so you can see how hilarious I'm going to look when I'm wearing it off blocking on something all right so there's me wearing my plane outfit sweater jeans baby but not super comfy got the important things in the pockets all right Jocelyn zip up nice here she is the old hippies chest strap their backpack big a bag right here there we go yeah we can't world here I go so probably very annoying but seriously once I get to once I get there I will just put everything in this then I'd rather it be heavy back there cuz right now it doesn't feel weight anything so like you know awesomesauce who's also a handy dandy whistle built right into the strap across the front so they were really they thought of everything shhh she does not enjoy there she is right there well fact
