hey guys on today's episode we're working on this 2014 Audi S5 probably the dirtiest one in the country in fact it's its first wash in 5 years now this car is daily commuted to New York City this is going to be a disaster coming up today on this episode of Drive protect dude we're so close oh my look at all the oh look at my [Applause] [Music] face Next Level I get I get to keep it yeah that is yours come over here check this thing out oh [Music] man big thank you to Squarespace for sponsoring this episode and allowing us to do huge Transformations like the one you're about to watch this is the dirtiest 2014 Audi S5 that's still actively daily driven on the road today and like all sodel Audi's they are only available in the Audi Quattro four-wheel drive system it came with a tfsi 3 l V6 producing 333 horse and in this case a 7-speed estron automatic transmission likely from all the New York City driving but this disaster is owned by my friend who was a quarterback at the University of Rochester and later played arena football for the Orlando Predators nonetheless this thing is disgusting and needs some major love step one is to get her up in the air and remove the 20in Twisted five-spoke wheels that are absolutely toast in particular check out the front passenger side wheel absolutely insane so to get those cleaned I actually used a product and a technique I haven't used in years to remove the layers and layers of brake dust I'll show you the in-depth process later in the detail with the car up in the air I cleaned the the undercarriage with brute and boost anti-salt additive before scrubbing everything down I repeated the same steps on the wheel wells next oh look at my face Squarespace gives people a powerful and beautiful platform from which to create your very the S5 next up is the engine compartment that was packed with leaves twigs and clearly hadn't been cleaned in many [Music] years with the engine now somewhat clean and to get access to the smell I removed two plastic Fasteners and lifted the cow and began hand scooping the endless amount of moldy wet smelly leaves from the inside once the majority of the leaves were removed then I used the super vacuum Blaster to dislodge the trapped leaves underneath the electrical components and to dry the heavily scrubbed engine now check this out a few few days ago I had my super vacum Blaster custom hand painted by Alex Alpert now I'll put a link to his website down below but he does some crazy designs on shoes walls cars tons of things and now vacuums that hang on the wall as functional art in the studio I really wanted him to do something and this one in particular is being displayed at the SEMA show if you're there check it out but if you're interested in having your own done in your own Studio then send me an email and we'll figure it out I'll also post a fulllength video and an interview with Alex on my studio Channel this dude is scary talented I first had to have the canister painted white at a body shop then give it to him to let him do his thing either way if you decide to get a vacuum or a blower from metrovac use code Amo 10 to save 10% as a thank you to our subscribers with the engine now done I power washed everything and focused on blowing out all the seams and crevices so when cars are parked outside for a very long time you can see see in the gas St here it's collecting water when it starts to collect water like this that means it's backing up potentially it could go into the cabin same thing up here you can see all of this I just spent the I don't know another 5 or 10 minutes just blowing out all the seams and you can see all the junk that's coming out here and lots of leaves and who knows what on the ground a lot of these clearly parked underneath a tree so what I have to do right now is there's a hole right there I have to unclog this hole what's going to happen is when I do that somewhere down here I don't know where underneath it's going to shoot out so I'll try to show you uh I'll use compressed air I'll stick it right in that hole there and then in theory you should see a ton of junk come out that means this whole system is clogged that's the one thing where people say oh I don't care about washing my car Etc you have to wash it so that you can avoid these things because you're going to have a backup inside which will just be a nightmare to clean if uh especially if you're not a car person Etc so washing on a regular basis can prevent that afterwards you can see the drain now functioning [Applause] [Music] [Applause] properly with the paint soaking I filled the buckets and used my wash towel and brush to dislodge years of grime on the neglected [Music] paint [Music] to remove the excessive breake dust step one was to use a light clay bar with soap which I normally do it's very common and although it did pick up some of the top layers of dust it was ultimately ineffective so I went with a yellow medium clay bar and again same thing happened so at this point I knew I needed to bring out the polisher and the acid so I moved on to cleaning the door jams next and I'll address the dust later on during the polishing phase now at this point here's the part that I mentioned earlier in the episode The Wheel cleaning now for the most part the majority of the years of break dust came off with Plum a little bit of elbow grease and some four OD steel wool in certain places after the cleaner sits for a minute or two and along with a little bit bit of light steel wo the embedded rust comes off no problem now if you're wondering if it scratches the wheel the answer is in most cases uh yes and no but pretty much yes but it's much quicker to repolish the wheel face later than it is to sit there and stubbornly remove the rust spots it'll take forever so in this case polishing later just made a whole lot more sense okay at this point I've cleaned all the wheels and got the majority of the breake dust off after 5 years and it looked pretty good except one this one here this is the one that was on the front passenger side I called the owner and said what is going on over here and sure enough he told me that the caliper was locked up and he had to drive for x amount of miles to get to the shop and repair it Etc but all of the brake dust on the side okay totally makes sense all of the the brand new uh caliper there okay makes sense but this here I said my gosh the amount of break dust that was on this was way abnormal completely insane and so I tried cleaning it with Degreaser I tried cleaning it with chrome wheel acid with aluminum wheel acid I was throwing everything I possibly could Ste four o steel wool at it nothing it wouldn't move so then I called up the guru of all Guru I called Kevin Brown and said hey here's the problem what's the situation you know what do you think and he said well the problem here is one it's very old I mean it's been sitting for a long time I said why does that matter it matters because the wheel itself heats up and cools down heats up and cools down much like the paint if you have contamination on the paint and you don't get it immediately when it heats up it opens up the pores and sort of gobbles in the junk in this case the contamination break dust or tree sap or whatever it may be on the paint it's doing that same kind of thing heat up cool down heat up and as it goes It goes down deeper and harder to get out so the way I'm doing it now is heat it up then go in tap it a little bit and you'll see it actually just crumble and then I'm putting the oven cleaner on then going in with four o steel wool and going back and forth it takes about 15 20 minutes per section of the wheel or per spoke uh but I'm saving the owner from having to take it to a wheel repair shop and have the whole thing repainted so 1 hour is worth of time I think it's worth it once they were done done the before and after was huge even before I polished them out later on with a 3-in Pneumatic but for now I just wanted to keep the good times rolling by cleaning the exhaust tips as well just about then the safe light guy arrived to remove the broken windshield to do that I first removed the side moldings and David removed the wiper blade arms then removed the rear view mirror and used this really cool two wheel wire pulley system to safely and quickly cut through the windshield Glue by cranking the hand lever and then slicing through the glue all the way around the glass really cool to watch in person with the windshield now loose David and I easily removed the glass and scraped away the leftover glue in preparation for the new [Music] windshield next he applied a shockingly straight glue line and we gently placed it back on the car replaced the mirror and avoided water for about 30 minutes and then we were good to go at this point while the glue was setting up I removed everything from the interior including the front and rear seats oh these are [Music] heavy Ro [Music] can't imagine why my back hurts all the time dude we're so close oh my gosh look at all the oh my I mean you can't make this up why are hey it's like hey wow I I didn't think this is going to be like this I didn't think it was going to be like this anyhow step one of the Interior is just a quick initial vacuum to avoid clogging my steam vac machines and blowing more Gunk around the interior while I work I also put the glove box and armrest personal items in a separate plastic bag to give to the customer to decide what's garbage and what's gold later on step two is to use the diffuser to loosen up the stains and to get the carpet fibers to stand up before you shampoo or steaming with Shag in the reservoir on the other hand for the center console or anything plastic especially cup holders I used ammo lather in the reservoir to clean those area and just blow everything out step three is to clean the Plastics and leather a little bit more precise with lather and interior brush and then the steam machine to accelerate the cleaning process and to kill the smell before using compressed air to blow out the trapped cleaner in the tight spots again I repeated the same steps on the rest of the Interior as well ah there's another one in there look at this I thought that was the Bottom now check this out I found a moldy hockey puck stuck in the cup holder not just on the passenger side but also on the driver side as well afterwards I followed up with Steam on the plastic door jams carpets and gas pedals before before I used the steam vac to help release the stains in anticipation of getting them sucked up by the clear head the white spot you're seeing right here is gum and I'll need to address that with a solvent and some steam when I'm done on really stubborn gum spots like this one here use a solvent then maybe some heat and in this case a flathead screwdriver to break the adhesion and you're good to go however when you're done using the solvent look at the widest streaks going up into the clear head that's the solvent being removed or sucked away from the carpet you want to keep wet vacing until those streaks are gone to avoid leaving a strong solvent within your fibers one thing I like to do is wiggle the machine back and forth to change the angle or change the direction and continue lifting that dirt in one spot if it's really bad like this one under normal circumstances with a math that's just dir I probably would have just power washed it and then scrubbed it down but if you noticed a white spot right here that's missing fibers probably from excessive heal damage when you're driving the car and it's just weakened so if I hit that or nail it with a power washer it's likely going to cause more issues and some of the fibers will come out so keep that in mind if you notice that on your mat I think we've reached a new level of grossness now here's where it gets great the back seat bottom was the creme to the creme Pokemon cards hockey socks a fork playing cards bottle caps pencils keychains and dried up moldy food chocolate furry growing things that required me to use the pointy plastic end of my interior brush to scrape the smelly sticky mush off the leather I can't make this up now the only thing worse than this vile smelly mess is splashing it in your face in air anyhow your best friend here is Steam and impressed air so make sure you go back and forth between these because you're going to need a lot more heat when it's this bad and this smelly while I was playing with the back seat Jordan cleaned the front seats and the hay fill trunk just about then my buddy Dennis came in to remove both the front and rear bumper to have them repainted from the fender bender in the rear and the crushed driver side lower Grill from hitting a raccoon earlier in the week up front again this car has been through Armageddon so it needs a total makeover check this out even with the bumper off there's still dirt everywhere so I packed them up and off to the body shop they went next I conditioned all the seats that desperately needed it and then reinstalled everything back into the car by the way those seats are ridiculously heavy I've picked up a lot of seats and removed a ton from Cars these are just wildly heavy and if you're into racing or speed or whatever those seats should be the first thing to go to shap some pounds my next project was the exterior which was hurt and bad to do this I'm using a two-step process first I'm using sheer wool pad and exfoliate polish then I follow up with a straight cut waffle foam pad and exfoliate polish again because the paint is in really rough shape now before I start polishing I usually like to hit any sap or solvent sitting on the paint first to let it soften up a bit prior to running over it with the pad most of the time it'll come right off if pre- soaked if not then I use the back side of the razor blade just to sort of Pierce the top layer of the sap to let all the solvent get underneath or sort of penetrate that and then it'll just pop off the clear coat in a matter of seconds it works every [Music] time [Music] even after the two steps the paint looks fantastic but notice the white dots everywhere that's thousands of rock chips that will need to be addressed later on for now I'm just focusing on bringing back the depth and the shine within the paint okay at this point I've polished the hood and now I have my game plan for the rest of the paint but if you remember on the passenger side the caliper locked up spit brake dust everywhere and it's incredibly thick during the wash process I clayed it just to try to knock it down really didn't do anything it maybe a little bit better but not fantastic then I came in and I said okay first thing I want to do is hit it with some Plum wheel cleaner and see if that does anything I then went in and Polished it it made it better but not perfect there's a lot more to go and then what I did is I decided okay if we're going to have tons of breake dust that is a metal right so now we're going to need acid to chew that up but how deep do I want to go how powerful do I want to hit this with if you remember on the wheels we used easy off right easy off on the paint I don't know if I want to take that risk so I said no I don't want to do that I went in uh with an over-the-counter mothers and I used the aluminum uh wheel cleaner this is acid based as well but again it's retail so it's it's relatively safe we're not industrial yet if you want to go one step further then you use chrome wheel cleaner now again these are acids so what I'm doing is I'm going to put acid on here in this case the only one that seemed to make a little bit of a dent was the chrome wheel cleaner which is stronger than the aluminum one and I'm not going to touch the easy off that's just too dangerous for me and so what I'm going to do is prep this put it on there and then I'll rub it in with my hands make sure I have gloves on GL glasses and certainly this cuz it stinks put it on and let it sit and let it do its work and you'll see it actually starts to Bubble a little bit meaning it's reacting with the filings meaning the the the metal that's sitting on the car now then afterwards I'll go in and I'll use a a much stronger heavier compound and kind of just keep working this and try to clean out the pores but this little spot right here that's much much better that took me almost 40 minutes to do that one little spot so I think we can go a bit faster if I prep it first with chrome wheel cleaner let the acid do its thing and we'll move on to the rest of the car while I was finishing up the paint my longtime friend Christian from Mena Dent came in to pop out a ton of New York City door dings and taxi cab kisses the Precision and technical skills of a highlevel dent guy is insane now he's seeing things that most would never notice which makes him a critical asset to your detailing business not to mention he's one of my closest friends and him and I started like 20 something years ago in a dealership uh he was taking out dents and I was polishing cars so good guy amazing technician on the driver's side there was a major gash down the side of the quarter and the door from a bike messenger that scraped along the car while the owner was in traffic notice all the white streaks or the white marks this usually means the damage is so deep that it's through the paint and I can't repair it with traditional polishing because there isn't really any paint left to polish meaning the whiteness is showing that it went all the way through the paint nonetheless to clean it up and the sort of not so deep spots I polished it first and I wasn't really happy with the results to be honest then I said okay let me measure the paint and then I'm going to go in and wet sand it with 1500 grit and then I followed up with 3,000 grit before polishing once again when I was all done was it perfect not even close but it was much better and it was the best that the paint could give me without repainting nearly all of One side of the car so I took it as a win bright and early the next morning I finished up by polishing the door jams and calipers before rewashing the car with the bumpers off to get the last of the Trap dirt gone then blew it dry and then polish the tail lights before the repainted bumpers arrived while Denis was here bolting everything down and getting it set up I was using the lhr75 to polish the wheels we talked about earlier that were scuffed up a bit because of the extreme break dust and rust accumulation when I was done the shine came right back to the wheel easily even just with one step so that indicates that four OD steel wheel is not really doing too much damage so that's why it's something I always reach for while the wheels were now curing I polished the fresh bumpers to match the polished paint I don't like to have a difference between the two of them so I make sure that I polish them to blend a little bit before adding touchup to the areas of the hood that were damaged from the major sand blast thing again I didn't paint the hood I just wanted to touch it up otherwise we'd be repainting the entire car and then once the touchup was dry then I coated all the painted surfaces with reflex Pro [Music] [Music] 2 while the paint was now curing I replaced the cabin filter that just arrived and it sits underneath the glove box and when I pulled it out this thing was understandably disgusting and likely a breathing Hazard look there's like like pigeon feathers and stuff in there easy breezy under the hood before I replaced the plastic cow I cleaned it with ISO then used frame Pro trim coat to restore the original shine back to the faded textured plastic I repeated the same steps on the rest of the textured Plastics under the hood as [Music] well finally I reinstalled the windshield trim I removed to have the windshield replaced then coated it with reflex Pro 2 then reinstalled the new looking Wheels torqu them down and then cleaned up the rear emblem before using 3M double-sided adhesive to reattach it to the trunk now there are many ways to do this but laying three strips across the Rings and then cutting them out is the most effective for long-term adhesion but it is incredibly tedious to do with a cardboard backing to avoid cutting through your table cut out and trim the adhesive around the Rings now on the car notice I purposely left a slight outline or a Halo of the Rings on the back lid so I can easily repace them in the exact Factory spot without too much hassle then I cleaned up the glass and pulled her outside to check the paint before my friend arrives to see his brand new Audi S5 like a brand new car [Music] e [Music] [Music] there he is hey good to see you come on in check her out what do you think crazy right Next Level I get I get to keep it yeah that is yours come over here check this thing out oh man holy got the emblems back on which was a big deal but but more importantly look I guess you found it no holes in your bumpers the ice cream truck hit me really yeah were you getting ice cream or just randomly look we've been through a lot now this is where surgery took place look at your wheel is that crazy now it looks clean you're like oh yeah it looks clean I had to take a screwdriver and literally chisel off the rust I'm guessing this one here like I know you're alluding to it that got locked up and then break dust everywhere yeah about 30 miles everywhere I mean the door jams everything and then stand here let me show you let me show you oh first of all look at your bumper brand spanking new lovely and then check out the engine engine's where it's at let me open this thing up crazy right better than new now look at this T crazy right this I had seen it right before yeah this look don't don't park under Big Trees I guess pound of leaves everywhere but you can even smells new so the big question is how the heck did it get in this condition what are you what are you doing there well you know well at least you dad's out there life comes that you quick real quick how many kids well the hot rod turns into the the family minivan real quick yes five kids did all this so couple uh
