[Music] [Music] walking e-bath it was like 30 bucks came with the wrist pin and everything [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right welcome to part three on the honda four tracks 250. um as you guys know we picked up this four-wheeler for what was it 150 bucks i believe and uh we found out that the bottom end was locked up it was filled up with ice um the valve covers were all off of us so water was just going right into the engine in the bottom end um we also found out that the cylinder and piston were locked up with rust so the piston wouldn't move in the cylinder so we got that all out of here we re-honed the cylinder last video and then we found out that the piston was junk um one of the rings wouldn't come out right there you can see so we ended up ordering a new piston that came in the mail today so we've got that we ended up cleaning out the carburetor still to put that back together but that was in the ultrasonic cleaner for a while that thing was really really bad the slide was locked up in there and everything was just horrible um we found that the valves were um stuck so the valves in here were stuck really badly and uh trying to get one out i broke a valve so um we ended up buying a new valve for it and that also came today we've got the parts over here we've got a brand new gasket kit top and gas kit for this thing right here with uh valve seals right there we've got piston we've got uh the valve right there so we've got all the parts we need to put this thing back together we should be able to finish up this atv today and uh hopefully have it running um we've got a lot of work to do so let's jump right into it i think we're gonna start with the valves we're gonna clean up these uh these seats right here you can see they're pretty rough so we're gonna clean those up with a little wire brush and then we've got some lapping compound and uh clapping tool so we're going to lap the valves that's what i'm using for overlapping tool we're going to do that first and then work our way to uh getting the piston on the gaskets and then starting to reassemble this thing piece by piece um i believe i have everything for the plastics as well over here so everything's kind of divided up into little sections to make this easier i think we're all set besides getting the valves in so i'm just making sure everything's here um we've got all the valve covers all the lines yeah i think we've got enough to uh get this thing finished up today so let's jump right into it and that get going on this project all right we've got a little wire wheel on the dremel tool we're just gonna clean up these seats you can see they're kind of rusty and carboned up here so just clean these up a little bit all right those look a lot better now you can see in there a lot smoother it was a little dark for you guys to see so now we can uh take some lapping compound stick those valves in there and give those a good lapping all right we've got some lapping compound right here put some on push this belt back through just gonna put a little bit on take this guy so [Music] see a nice metal ring around there so that's it's nice and flush in there all right on to the next one right here's the new valve brand new intake valve you can see it's a little bit bigger fits right in there put a little lapping compound [Applause] oh jeez all right that one's all done all right time to get the valve seals on these are what the valve seals look like just these little guys right here these are going to go right on these things right here so we're going to lube these up with a little oil and then push those on just a little bit of oil right that one's on make sure that little o-ring is around it and not off of it they sometimes like to come off when you push these on especially when it's cold out like it is all right we got her on there oh it was a little turkey to get on that one is really tight up and now we're just going to put these valves up through it and then put these springs back on we'll use our tool to do that our compressor but i'll skip that part if you guys want to see that part go ahead and go to the last video where i take it apart it's basically doing the opposite you just put it back on it's very simple all right guys the head is all done we've got the valves in there we've got the valve seals on the springs on everything's moving up and down so we lapped all the valves so i think we're all good to go here we're going to set this aside and then we're going to work on the piss getting the piston on there that is the next step oh also we gotta get that that screw out of there that we got in there that we snapped off all right so here's the new piston we got um it is a used one but it's barely got any uh wear on it it looks like bought from ebay i think it was like 30 bucks came with the wrist pin and everything and looking this thing over it looks pretty good a little carving on the top nothing too crazy um here's the old one for comparison you can see they're the exact same piston [Music] so i guess we'll see if this one fits in the cylinder next we did already hone it out so it should fit in there nice and snug i guess we can check the ring gap too all right just eyeballing this ring gap you can see that there's barely any any space in between there so we're good to go i'm not even going to measure it because i can just tell by eye that that is that's fine uh we're not going for perfection on this this is a budget build um and it's a used piston so it's not gonna be perfect but that that's pretty good as long as it's not like really big in there you should be fine um at least to make it run and you know to have plenty of power so that to me looks pretty good that's probably uh i don't know less than a millimeter so all right so i think this piston is good to go on um we're gonna take the other ring off and check that one too and then um slap that piston on all right guys same thing for this ring you can see the gap in there very small but there is a gap so that's good less than a millimeter gap so we're good to go there um if you guys look close enough you can see a little t right there when you're going to be putting these rings on you want the tee facing up on the piston so when you put it back on put the t facing up that's how you put the rings on the rings are both the same by the way so it doesn't matter which one goes where as long as that t is facing up on a four stroke on the two stroke it does matter which way you put the ring so just be careful about that also guys i went over this a couple times in other videos but um if you take a look at the piston rings see how there's that gap in there right there right there right there and then there's a little gap in between the oil rings you're going to want to stagger these apart from each other so you're going to want to start with like one right here and then move the other one about 80 degrees and the other direction over here and then move the oil ring over here and then have the other oil ring gap away from that oil ring yeah right there you don't want any of these gaps to line up um because oil can seep through there and your quad will smoke that's a really common problem that i see is people don't put the rings on correctly all right tried for a good half an hour to get that bolt out of here and uh can't get that thing out so that is stuck in there for now um but we got the piston pistons looking all good you can see the end is on the intake side so we're ready to put the gasket on here the surface is all cleaned up ready to go and then we can drop that cylinder on which is all good to go here all the gasket surfaces are clean and perfect so let's get going on that all right we've got the new gasket right here this is going to be going on i like to put a little gasket maker on the surface just for extra security so that that bonds nice and tight to it so i'm just gonna put a little bit around here and it helps it stick for when you put it on so just a paper gasket so be careful can easily rip there we go all right that casket's on gonna lube up the piston rings a little bit of oil on here so that slides onto the cylinder easily make sure you get in between the rings all around the piston those on this way [Music] all right cylinder is on piston moves uh freely up and down you can see don't want to go too far because i've got the uh timing chain right there but uh everything looks nice and tight cylinder doesn't move around so i think we're good to go there now we just have to get the head on and uh we've got to get the cam in the right place and time this thing up this thing goes on there there that's in there nice and tight you should be able to push it either way so you see that's nice and tight in there all right gotta get the gasket down and then we can get the head down get this other gasket on hopefully it's the right kind get the timing chain through looks like it might fit that's good perfect all right gasket 7. all right the heads going on next get this on all right we got the head on now we just have to get some bolts in here we gotta get the cam on and um timing chain on the cam set the top to the center and we should be good to go all right we got the cylinder bolts in right here be careful not to drop those washers down the cam chain hole we're gonna go find the torque specs torque these down and then get these bolts in all right these call for 22 foot pounds we're going to start at 15 and then go from there there's 15 right there we'll bump it up to 22 now all right we're just torquing these down now and um then we should be done we've got the cam sitting right there so we can put that on next just have to put this thing to top dead center i'll show you guys how to do that all right we set this engine to top dead center basically all we do is rotate the um crank with a 17 millimeter socket and you look in this little hole right here until you find the t a little t on the flywheel i don't know if you guys can see this or not kind of hard to see let's see there's a little t on the flywheel right there um and then you just make sure that the pistons at the top of the cylinder as well just look down the spark plug hole and take a look um it is adapted center so we can go get the cam and install the cam all timed up just have to put the chain tensioner in and then the valve cover on all right we've got the valve cover on we're going to adjust the valves um the manual says point zero zero five inches for both the intake and the exhaust so let's get the feeler gauge in here we're attached center right now so let's just feel what that feels like all right that one needs to be a little bit tightened so we're gonna tighten that guy up and go to the exhaust all right guys both valves intake and exhaust are adjusted to 0.005 inches let's try rotating the engine around seeing if we can rotate around with no problem sometimes all right that looks pretty good let's try to hook up the starter to it and see if the starter works and i highly doubt it's gonna work but uh neutral lights on let's see if the starter works oh oh that works that's awesome [Music] sounds pretty good actually oh a bunch of water coming out of it that's awesome let that drain out for a bit turn that back on all right awesome let's uh get the carburetor cleaned up put that on and attempt to start this thing all right carburetor is all cleaned put back on got the throttle all hooked up everything's nice and smooth getting the spark plug in there right now checking that if we have compression or not hopefully we do let's see if we've got some compression here i kick it over on the other side it's nice that the kickstart works too see anything yeah we got some compression i guess this thing takes two quarts of oil so here's one cord going in brand new court just using a bunch of different oils because we're going to drain this anyway all right the time has come we've got oil in it we've got gas in it kicks over smoothly valves are adjusted timing's perfect let's add some gas to this bad boy see what happens here i'm pretty i'm i'm pretty uh excited here who thinks it's going to start gas leaking on it gas is leaking out of the carburetor i fix that quick all right guys it's still looking at the carburetor actually dumped all the gas on the floor right there but um we've got the battery charger let's turn this to on see if this thing turns on all right see if she cranks up here [Music] it ran but uh we had a little malfunction right here that bolt was loose i was pumping the oil out of it let's try this again [Music] so so and other gas she runs sounds pretty good too sounds really smooth all right cool let's put some more gas in it try it again see what happens [Music] so all right so we got the carburetor stop leaking um it was missing a gasket on the float bowl so i put that back on i got the air box back on with the air filter all secure in there um i don't know if it comes with the box lid or not let's see if it's got one in here and this plastic stuff that looks like that let's see that on here quick there nice on i was just cleaning up the gas tank this thing's pretty clean i think there is some ice in it though so we have to thaw that out you can see it's pretty clean in there i'll grab a flashlight it's definitely cleaner than other four-wheelers i've seen i mean that's pretty spotless it's metal metal tank so nice gas cap too so that needs to be cleaned out we've got all the plastics for it and everything so that's good and the seat on this thing from previous video you guys saw this thing it's like really really nice no rips whatsoever in this puppy so that'll go on there like that this is gonna be looking pretty sweet yeah the seats in great shape really happy that we decided to rebuild this thing it was definitely worth it new piston and rings and gasket kit and uh this thing is pretty much brand new so far so good let's see if the kickstarter works now should we try kicking it over with the kickstart see if it fires up starts right up audio is pretty good [Music] sounds like it's running pretty good we'll continuously add gas to it we're trying to break in this piston too [Music] so all right it's stopped smoking so that's good i think it just cleared up the pipe you could see corn that was all on the pipe [Music] she's running really good no leaking yet nice throttle response running out of gas oh the light there we go all right sweet so so far so good running great all we have to do now is get the gas tank on the plastic's on and this thing will be done all right we bought a bunch of oil bought some touch-up paint for it vht and what else we buy for it little oil filter this is the only one they had in stock you can see that the oil that came out of it was a little watery there that's definitely oil mixed with water that's where the where the oil filter goes um we got a brand new battery for it right here took the original one back in and they gave me this one so that's awesome um it was pretty expensive i think it was like 90 dollars so it was not cheap um all right let's get going on the oil change okay put the plug back in and then change out that oil let's get to it all right just did the oil change and uh touched up some of the paint we did the racks with the vht you can see that looks pretty good i wiped down the whole machine made it look pretty good um we did this panel right here black touched up the frame everywhere the foot pegs i think it's looking pretty good so that's the final outcome i mean that's pretty sharp looking not too bad one thing i want to fix is the the front brakes we have to do um doesn't really have much in them so it could just be out of fluid check the fluid in there but um the rear brake right here the parking brake gets stuck too so i want to get that lubed up you can see it gets stuck back here yeah so we got to get that unstuck because the reverse is right here you push that button down and it pulls in both those cables so let's check the fluid next and go from there yeah it looks like the uh master cylinder was completely dry in here which could be a good thing or a bad thing not too sure let's see what it takes that three or four let's see if we got some brake fluid oh barely any i don't even know if that's enough pour a little in there see what happens we'll just leak right out somewhere we will find out see what happens here [Music] so i have to re-bleed them all right so we got really lucky and the brakes are actually bled now all we had to do is fill up the master cylinder so that's pretty awesome um yeah you can see the brakes work without them they roll stop so we're good to go let's take this thing for a little rep there's some snow outside so we can go rip out there should be pretty fun [Music] [Music] so uh [Music] so not smoking so [Music] so all right back from the first ride on the 150 dollar honda for trax 250. this thing rips pretty good really fun in the snow and reverse works brakes work everything works on it no leaking whatsoever from the engine no weird noises doesn't even smoke so that's a good sign um we did replace the valve seal so that's probably why it doesn't smoke anymore um it's looking pretty good too looking pretty clean actually for 150 bucks and now we've got the brand new battery that works great all the lights work everything looks pretty dang sweet on this thing yeah i'm pretty happy with it really happy with how it turned out a little effort goes a long way and um it's nice that buying a new piston for it was 30 bucks gasket kit was like 20. so we're like 50 bucks into it and then what else we buy for it some oil that was like 10 bucks 60 bucks into it and then some paint that was eight bucks or about 70 bucks into it and then uh battery which was 90. so about 160 so right around 300 into this machine and it's running and driving great no real issues um there's a back tire leak on this thing just a tiny one a week's over uh it takes about three hours to leak out but other than that she's pretty good might just put some slime in it and keep that tire yeah pretty happy with it 150 bucks and she's good to go well guys anyway hope you guys enjoyed the video and even learned something along the way i know i did i always learn stuff working on these machines and it's always pretty fun this one was definitely a mystery uh trying to figure out what was wrong with it and um it was really really fun thanks for joining me on this build and until next time we are out
