all right what do we have here haven't done a cr80 in a while so i was going through craigslist again and near popped up a 1994 honda cr edr for 400 bucks unfortunately the guy said it was firm on the price so no negotiating that i already tried but um basically it says need works but runs needs a piston low compression brakes clutch all gears work fmf power core pipe and silencer rebuilt carburetor and new carbon fiber reads 400 firm i think that's a pretty good deal if we look on ebay for cr80 piston here 1994 on the cr80 piston by the way the honda crs are getting kind of hard to find you can find some right here here's one here's one ooh pro x that's the one i'm probably gonna get right there so i mean you put like 75 bucks into it you got a brand new bike basically so this is it there's only one picture of it um plastics look like they're in a little bit rougher condition but that's not that big of a deal the bike looks pretty nice otherwise levers aren't broken looks like tires have decent tread um looks like the chain might be a little bit looser oh yeah that back fender is kind of janky on there as well but it's all there it looks like looks like it's complete um i think a new seat cover would be sweet for this new plastics let's see if they have new plastics online here quick let me see that would be kind of cool to get your plastic set for this thing uh they probably have them somewhere honda cr80 plastics to see yeah they probably have new ones somewhere oh there's one i think that's 94 nope 87. yeah all right so i mean we can probably buff these out make them look good get some new graphics or something but it's uh the frame looks like it's in decent condition it's white looks like it was probably race at one point it's got a number plate on it eight two six yeah everything looks like it's there front brake is there yeah so um it's already dark out right now you can see it's like nighttime it gets dark at like 4 30 here so we're gonna go pick it up the guy gets home at 5 30 so we'll we'll be leaving here to green bay pretty soon here um and hopefully this bike is decent hopefully it doesn't need a new crank or something like that all right we're 16 minutes away right now so getting closer it was about a 55 minute drive so it wasn't too too close um just hoping that the bike shifts through all the gears i'm hoping that the fork seals don't leak i'm hoping that the chains brackets are good and i'm hoping the plastics are pretty decent other than the piston we should be fine hopefully that's what the guy said the guy actually said that he changed the piston and the um cylinder three years ago so you know hopefully that cylinder is good fingers crossed it doesn't have any scratches and then we do have the hone we can hone it out with but you know still i'd like to i'd like it to be scratch free if possible so fingers crossed that this is a good bike and uh we'll have in the back of the truck in no time stay tuned so all right we got the bike off the truck it was really late last night and way too dark to show anything so we got back home the guy was really nice he had two kids that used to ride this thing so they were sad to see it go but yeah so he told me a little bit about the bike he said that he uh rebuilt the carburetor let's go take a look at the carburetor here he said he rebuilt the carburetor put that fuel filter on there um it's a kehian carb you can see from japan um he said that he bought a new cylinder and a piston for it three years ago and rebuilt it he said the same thing happened three years ago eventually just lost compression um so right now let's see we've got it's pretty decent compression to be honest um we'll do a compression test here that's that's not even that bad i don't think it's really not that bad i don't know we might we might get lucky here but uh yeah he said that you know it doesn't like to start he said it had like 50 pounds of compression last time he tested it which who knows if he's telling the truth or not we'll have to get the compression tester out and check but let's just check for coolant here um it's a little low on coolant not a ton in there definitely not topped off so maybe that's the culprit right there maybe the the water pump went or the head gasket and there's uh there's coolant getting in the head causing it not to start which could be the problem here let's see that's just dust from the garage everything looks like it's here though the tires are pretty decent plastics are all here a little cracked in areas but not not anything we can't work with it's not horrible i'm missing a grip right here looks like there's new bars on here though or different bars i should say definitely need some new grips and uh levers need to be cleaned up a bit looks like they were painted with a bunch of like tape on it and stuff uh fork seals aren't leaking yet i don't see any oil on the fork seal so that's good uh brakes both work front and back it's got a gold series fatty pipe on this thing it's a really big pipe for the bike okay i think it's giant um and that that's basically it suspension is pretty decent on it nothing to complain about um for 400 bucks i mean you really can't buy much i guess we'll take a look at the oil now i did when i was there but it was hard to see in there and i didn't bring a dipstick or anything so we'll stick a screwdriver down that hole and see what we're getting for oil hopefully it's not milky white or anything i asked him when i was there i'm like this is oil milky or anything he said no so let's see if he's telling the truth you never know with people so and who knows maybe you didn't even check it he was a mechanic though so he should check oil you would think he would i guess he worked on trucks for like 10 years so he's got some experience uh clutch pulls in nicely yeah it's a it's a pretty cool little bike the bin let's check it out all right so to check the bin the year there's no stamp on the frame on this one well there is but it's uh it's off of there so we count ten letters up one two three four five six seven eight nine ten r all right just looked it up r is a 1994. so that is the correct bike so it is 1994. all right that's good to go let's quick pop off the seat looks like the bolts are pretty loose on there and check out that air filter next all right let's check out the air filter now ah it's not too bad i don't see any mice living in it yeah it's pretty clear not too bad at all even got the little rubber strap with gassing well should we uh see if it shifts to the gears here pump this up here all right you got it first right there oh there we go second third fourth fourth sixth looks pretty good something large in here though looks like something for the carburetor is lodged right in here let's get that out before that causes problems what the heck is this thing looks like a clamp of some sort it goes for the wires over here something we'll save that but let's see if anything else is down here now i don't think there is we'll take off this cover later and check and see if there's a a case saver i don't know if this technically is a case saver i don't think so but um yeah the frame looks pretty decent i don't see any breaks in the frame or the subframe there's some rust right here these subframes are so weak oh oh look at this there is a break right there aha interesting check this out breaking the subframe right there so bring out the well bad up not much metal left on that thing though that's why the fender was all janky on there that's an easy weld though pretty easy so we have to weld that up any other problems see any of the breaks in the frame so one break in the subframe how does it look down here let's see underneath the motor looks good no jb weld on the uh the bolt for the oil so that's good i've had it where there's a bunch of jb welds stuck underneath there so i always check that so it looks like overall the bike is in pretty decent condition except for the one subframe break which we can weld up easily it's not like a main frame break where it's actually super important um so yeah that's good so far i think we're gonna take the spark plug out and check for spark here first spark plugs are right up in here let's see has it been removed recently nope they're really tight i don't want to snap it off here wow there we go find the game here see what we're running for plug to br9es i think that's the right plug who thinks it has spark here what if it was just spark that was the problem it wasn't actually the cylinder that'd be nice all right let's see what the spark plug looks like is that white that looks like a brand new plug to me what do you guys think that's definitely like brand new it looks to me like it has been it's been cleaned by coolant i bet yeah there's like zero color on that thing wow you know the only other case scenario where you know maybe something was up is if he changed the plug because it didn't start and he was hoping that it wasn't low compression and that it was the spark plug so maybe he did just change the spark plug and it hasn't been running like this i'm not sure but uh yeah it looks pretty new all right uh let's turn it over and see what it sounds like now with the spark plug either smooth really smooth like really really smooth it's a good sign let's see if we got a good spark going oh yeah all right that's good spark check it out oh it's nice and dark you now see that so we definitely have spark let's um get the compression tester out all right hooking up the compression gauge right now all right that's all secure zero that out all right what do you guys think we're going to get here i'm guessing 90. oh already over 50 oh already 90. [Music] check that out 150 psi sue i don't think it's the piston i think we're gonna be able to get this thing running today that's insane okay so i think we lucked out here i betcha it's either something to do with water pump or something to do with the carburetor so hmm let's see what's the next step here i guess we could try starting up and checking out the plug and seeing what's up with that it looked pretty clean so maybe coolant's getting to it it could be a bad head gasket i guess doesn't hurt to just throw some gas in it and try it out all right gas is on um gas is flowing through the petcock and through the gas line so we should be good there the carburetor looks like it's getting gassed so let's start try starting up here [Music] so all right doesn't want to start so i don't think we're getting gas to where we needed to be or the reeds could be jumped to ah let's see here all right let's take off that carburetor we're going to do is take off the air box here boot first shoot some gas down there try to start it up again [Applause] [Music] so all right what we can do is just uh loosen up the subframe right here and i'll pull that whole thing up see now we're going to squirt some gas on the carburetor try starting this thing up again [Applause] hey all right uh that's good so i don't think the carburetor is getting any gas touch of the float how you strong so i guess we're gonna be cleaning out the carburetor so yeah car feels empty oh there's a little gas in there not a crazy amount though i don't think enough ah there's water in there looks like there's water in the gas that could be the problem right there i bet you that's the problem bad gas we'll uh tear apart this carburetor cleaned up [Music] 125 needle yeah that's still rubbery still soft that's good take that guy off there so we got for the pilot 52. that's clear see right through that what's the main jet clear that should be it's a huge hole yep take this guy off of here yeah it looks like there's water in there huh that would be interesting let's see about the air screw semi turns one all right let's see if this hole's cleared let's put a little wd-40 down here that's clear see it coming out so this doesn't need the ultrasonic cleaner we're just gonna spray through and then get the air compressor on it all right carburetor is all clean ready to be put back on the bike let's uh take a quick look at the gas now that's in this thing all right let's check out the gas coming from here see if there's any water in [Music] there let's see kind of hard to tell but it should kind of separate a little bit um i know when i dumped out the carburetor there's definite bubbles of separation you could see between the oil and the gas or the uh between the oil and the water so i'm not really seeing any separation here but before we put the carburetor back on i want to check out the reads here quick all right let's get these reeds out of here check these there's a couple eight mills around here oh that one's under what do these reeds look like i'm gonna rip that gasket off there those reeds are pretty open you can see right through them that's not great look at that that's a huge gap look at the size of that gap through that reed that one's close pretty close but we're gonna flip that right around see if we can close that gap here all right we're gonna flip this reed see that sits much flatter in there might as well clean it off a little bit let's see if that makes a difference so white we put that one in and then i'm going to screw this one and it's important that you have the same pressure on either side of the reed here so that it doesn't pop up again so slowly go back and forth between the two let's see if she pops back up so far so good now you can see that reed's closed check that out can't see through it anymore all right reeds are back on we forgot to check the oil here so let's just check and make sure it's not white before we begin to put the carburetor on because we forgot to do that i was going to do that the first first couple minutes into this project but completely forgot is there a window to see if there's any oil even in here nope let's see if i can get this going down here oh there's some it doesn't look milky at all looks pretty clear okay that's a good sign that means the water pump seal didn't go out all right we got the carburetor back on all cleaned out good to go we're gonna get some gas going down into that just pre-mix this gas here all right who thinks he's gonna start up moment of truth here choke it [Music] oh [Music] let's run out of gas let's pour a little bit more down there and try again so so a bunch of bad gas see it's all draining there all right let's add some fresh stuff here we go foreign [Music] there's definitely an air leak going on somewhere in this thing i wonder if it's by this boot right here all right we got the idle but with the choke on [Music] oh [Music] so the bike runs great with the choke on so that tells me that the bike is running way too lean um very strange um when i change the air screw right here it doesn't do anything so i'm guessing the pilot's too small and uh it's not oiling correctly that's that's my guess so we're gonna check out and see what the pilot's supposed to be um we just did the carb queen so we know what the pilot is all right so just looked online right now we're running a 52 for the pilot and at 125 for the main um stock it came with a 50 for the pilot and 125 with the main so they did go up in the pilot just two two steps up um so it should be running perfect i just i don't get that so i put a little um gasket maker right here there was a little bit of a crack in the boot i only went through to the boot because i looked and checked out the boot before i put it back on but just in case i put a little bit around the crack we'll see if that makes a difference and then um i think next video unfortunately we're going to be checking the seal in here where he's going to spray some like starting fluid around the seal seeing if it revs up then we'll spray some around the boot too once that gasket maker dries so that'll happen next video this video is getting too long um so stay tuned for that i hope we can have this thing running perfectly next video and then we can do like the chain and sprockets and all that fun stuff um and make sure everything's working perfect and then put this thing back together take it for a rip and test her out hopefully you guys enjoyed this video hopefully you learned something it's a pretty cool little bike and um we'll see you next video thanks for watching guys thanks for subscribing until next time
