First Day at UChicago Booth as an MBA student

[Music] [Music] [Music] on my way to school passing by international house which is where i used to live in my first year at chicago i had a single dorm met a lot of cool people in booth house ironically were separated by different houses and that was my name and here i am now back again [Music] so from my house to the quad or the center of campus essentially is about a 15-minute walk for anybody who's curious [Music] this is the lab school you might see some kids walk by [Music] and we're here [Music] charles harper center oh it's so bright [Music] first day of school jitters but wow this campus is beautiful [Music] walls everywhere now that's a look [Music] so i just got here and we have to check in to get our id cards name badges and locker rooms this combination yeah so i have to drop off my stuff first i also got this free um fan so we're listening to the dean talk about school our class size which is 624 the largest out of every year in history and we have 42 women this year this is a summer garden so we finished hearing that speech very interesting by the way they talked about a first kiss i guess it's their way of saying that becoming a leader requires experience and you can only do that with experiential learning okay now we have to go back in for our first class session um called lead which is going to be our five-week course throughout the year about effective leadership and development so here i am checking out which room it's in her first day of school already getting lost but hey let's call it a tour of the hallways instead [Music] done with class and now going back up to the main winter garden for some lunch and we're eating outside in the summer garden so that we have to wear a mask and it's safer and i got salmon with quinoa salad cookie and brownie so delicious they feed us well here here is the mail corner um where we find anything like papers or things that are addressed to us needs to be given to us [Music] and now i'm going to find a place to sit and do some work so what work do you say um well we don't have homework on the first week of school yet but for those who don't know i do a lot of side stuff so for example volunteering with a non-profit that fights for economic mobility for first-generation low-income students and they have a career development program which is like an intensive workshop every saturday where they teach skills like time management and cover letter or resume stuff the other thing i do is work for several ed tech education technology startups to teach english and reading comprehension to people in asia so some of them might be students young professionals immigrants specifically in china korea thailand singapore and some people are even in canada so or germany so it's really fun to meet people from all over the globe online and to just work with them on improving communication skills and public speaking some things i do with them are like reviewing homework for students going through presentations and lectures with other business professionals and other times it's just general discussion about life in the us and school graduate school artificial intelligence psychology any interesting topic and another startup i work for is to mentor high school students with their college applications and help them come to schools like uchicago i'm biased i know but um helping them along that journey with the interview process essay writing everything all right done with work [Music] and then we're heading to the bookstore for some swag i think one can never have too much school spirit if only i was a cheerleader [Music] and i'm taking the long way or i guess the scenic route through campus because i want you to see all the beautiful buildings and the fall foliage trust me i know this campus i'm not lost i'm not taking you the wrong way this is just the long way so this is the famous hall gate people pass by [Music] quite windy outside which is why i can't walk and talk [Music] after the famous economics production function cobb douglas production function if you guys heard of it are taking economics or planning to definitely do it here finally at the bookstore [Music] so many things i want to buy folders notebooks [Music] home decor i don't know sweaters i love sweaters and crew necks i'm not as big as a hoodie person because i don't like when the hood is at the back and it's like hard to sleep or like lie on the back i'm more of like a crew neck um so let's see what i can pick up here mostly notebooks water bottles [Music] oh my gosh i kind of like everything i want everything but really can't oh there's a huge flag i wonder how many people buy this imagine like just going up to the cashier and saying i want that big flag in my home how much is that i don't know is it even for sale [Music] some nice sportswear athletic wear more blonde shirts t-shirts how many ways can you say use chicago butt pants i don't know why i haven't bought sweatpants yet they look comfy but i think it's cuz a bit baggy and i'm kinda short so maybe skinny jeans are the way to go for me this is kind of cute this white sweatshirt i like a lot so many options i can't decide i'm a bit indecisive if you guys can't tell already oh this origami thing this cube octagon it's actually um sticky notes that's so cool right i really wanted it it looks so um so there's like games up here and um books like you would get a normal bookstore at barnes and nobles and they even have like the top 10 as recommended by tick tockers so notebooks and pens definitely need lots of pens okay i'm on my way to the happy hour now which is up north near wrigley field and it's called brickhouse pattern so i'm meeting my classmates and get to network and
