I really like these videos of the young Hitchens
I didn't know Hitchens debated Norm MacDonald.
God I love socialist Hitchens!
fucking hell these guys won't stop trying to interrupt Hitchens
This is my favourite video of Hitchens.
Not the first time I've watched this and I am still not sure if I like the Hitchens in this video. Obviously, Tyrrell was acting like an obnoxious child pretending to be an adult here, and when the discussion is centered on that I think Hitchens does quite well here.
But, when discussing international affairs, I find myself agreeing with Buckley more than with Hitchens. His stance on Iran, for example, is what he himself would later describe as a radical attitude but not a radical position.
Sure, he can present himself as an enemy of both the mullahs and the shah but he cannot even suggest a possible course of action. And when it comes to the issues of communism and Vietnam, his performance is almost embarrassing and ends up having to dodge both Buckley's point that just because Minh was a necessary ally in WWII it did not mean that he should have been allowed to rule Vietnam as well as Tyrrell's question of where he thought communism ought to be resisted and by what means.
