Fingers croseed for T.C.

oh that hurts right there those ribs are sore it's always good to put families back together [Music] hey it was kind of a sleepless night for us last night the first thing was that calf ami took him in the house nursed him back to health got him to drink some colostrum lady by the fire warmed him up put blankets on him she even laid with him all night just keeping him warm he's alive and doing well and right now I'm going down here to get his mama we're gonna try to put them together and see if she'll take him so cross your fingers for us the other thing is Kyle left here last night to go haul some cattle this morning and his truck froze up the airlines did and we had to work on that he called me about 11:00 and I messed around with that with him until about 2:30 so we've had an eventful evening we're not to bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning anyway I'm gonna put it right here in the alley then I'm actually gonna go carry that calf out and let her find the calf see if that kind of helps things out a little cross your fingers supposed to warm up pretty good today we're just like the animal hospital around here we got the steer that fell in the water I'm gonna show him to you here in just a second then we have the baby calf that was born and cows that he was literally frozen to the ground when he found him yesterday his mama was standing beside him that was a good thing but he could not get up he was so cold so much hypothermia going on so check it out here's the steer the black-and-white one right there see right there that's the steer that we pulled out of the out of the drink nope there he is he's doing good there's the cow right there big white horned kind of a white cow and we're gonna kick her up that allien see if we can put them together all right I've got us I've got his mama separate from the other cattle now I'm gonna go get the calf I'm gonna bring him out here well I'm actually going to pick him up in a little pan up here by himself and then I'm just gonna kind of let the mama find him on her own I think that's gonna be an important thing is that she find him not that I bring the calf out to her so we'll see if that proves to work out for us good or not but I think we're ready for the cap well it's time for my sleepover buddy to go back to his mama yeah TC I'm go get some breakfast how can you call him TC cuz he's a tough cookie she's hooky she'll get it she's just in a bad mood because she missed him all night okay we're gonna leave them be for a little bit see if she'll quit watching us and start maybe wanting to pay attention to that cash cross your fingers it's always good to put families back together [Music] [Applause] [Music] well it's still pretty snowy down here these cows aren't drinking much water I think they've I think this snow softened up enough that they're getting a little moisture out of the snow because I filled those tubs last night they haven't they haven't used but maybe they haven't drank down maybe six inches of them all right let's go see about chopping a little ice in another pasture see what those cows are looking like they're actually the next set of cows that we're gonna TB test we're gonna do them next week together Thursday and haul and test on Friday so these are the little steers that were at Shumway that I hauled down here to the ranch and they're the ones that I none of the ones that I broke my ribs for yesterday whoo that hurt still does and pretty well eaten the Bale that I brought him yesterday but I think I'll wait until tomorrow sometime and bring him another Bale down here let him skip a day but I am gonna go over here see what the ice situation looks like ray is actually chopping ice on a different part of the ranch today he chopped some ice on the other side of the highway for some steers that we have over there this is where the steer fell in the ice I think they've got him a pretty good hole of water right over there on the other side right there's where I chopped yesterday that steers out on the ice you better get off of it [Applause] ah hey get off that ice hi all right let's pitchfork that ice out of the water oh that hurts like that those ribs are sore [Music] oK we've got him a couple pretty good holes cut I'm gonna go over on that other side chop them a little hole over there they've been trying to water over there and I'm afraid something's gonna get out on that and fall through so we'll go chop a hole in it [Music] okay third hole chopped I wanted to chop one around here by where they'd been out on this ice so something didn't come around here fall through like that other little steer did a couple of days ago so let's go to the next place we got two more places we need the job whew that'll take the breath out of you especially with her ribs it's pretty snowy around this way everything's still pretty white out here I don't know what I was thinking I don't know why I was thinking it'd be any different [Music] all right let's go chop another hole it seems like we've done a lot of that lately well what do you know I think they got into water today right there yep they got them a drink right there today hallelujah hallelujah maybe right over there to them old cows are resourceful right there which off this hole a little bit bigger and maybe just maybe it won't completely freeze real solid tonight and then get back into it again tomorrow thank goodness for warm gloves hey it's getting to be about that time of the day let's head towards the house if we can wrap this day up we'll check on ray and see what he got chopped and where he's out and if we need to go help him before we go home but I think I'm ready to kind of be done for the day let's go I said what about our calf project a little setback today huh yeah we thought she was gonna take him she acted like she wanted to but I think she wanted to but he just didn't have enough strength so now we've got him a little hay port built in the hay and tarp over that and some sawdust and shavings in here to keep him warm so I'm gonna have to go out and feed him every now and then tonight Oh Ranger totally dude take care of livestock whether we're feeding them hay feeding the milk chopping ice for them whatever I'm trying to take care of them don't we yep okay well we're down for the day you know what else you have to do oh we're not gonna do that all night a couple of times before we go to bed and then he's gonna have to tough it out all right good night everybody thanks for joining us see you tomorrow Lake yeah [Music] you
