shields up my fellow warriors of light welcome back to final fantasy 14 and today i'm gonna be bringing you my controller guide whether you're checking this out because you tried playing the free trial on playstation 4 playstation 5 and you felt like the controls felt a little bit awkward or maybe you just like couldn't navigate the ui properly or maybe you're someone who played it on the pc for years and you're like you know what i want to check out what it's like to play this game on a controller just to see what a different experience would feel like maybe i'll enjoy it more maybe i'll enjoy it less or maybe you're someone who's starting out brand new into mmos and you just don't even know what a tap targeting mmo is and that makes it considerably hard because i'll tell you right now is actually trying to uh teach gaijin the basics of final fantasy 14 and i felt like it was a bit of a struggle so i want to make sure that i make this as accessible to people as possible and hopefully you guys will learn something and if you do i would just ask that you guys consider leaving a like on the video because helps out a lot and these final fantasy 14 videos are a little bit outside the wheelhouse of content that i didn't do on the channel and any additional engagement really helps the algorithm know that you guys enjoyed it anyways let's get things started uh let me turn on my ui here i'll tell you guys a couple of interesting shortcuts for controllers but before we get there before we get to the more advanced things we have to start with the basics so first and foremost how do you even turn on controller mode after you plug in a controller to your computer because just because you plug in a controller it's not going to automatically start working on the game you have to actually turn on controller mode so for that you're going to have to go into your character configuration now if you're playing in mouse and keyboard your character configuration is going to show up here on the lower right hand side of the game there's going to be a couple of red balls uh you want to click them and figure out where your character configuration is i don't actually know because i don't really play with mouse and keyboard but if you go to your character configuration you'll notice there's a big button here it says gamepad mode or mouse mode and you can click that and it will swap between mouse and keyboard or uh your controller like i said see these are the golden balls of when you have uh when you have the the mouse and keyboard mode but anyways i want to be in controller mode because of this this is the way that i prefer to play so you turn on your controller mode and then after that one of the things that we want to go to is want to go into system configuration and we want to go into your button configuration or actually maybe even first you want to select the right controller i don't know if you have multiple controllers attached to your computer and then you want to select which icons are going to be represented on screen now in my case i'm going to be using a dual shock 4 right here so we're going to be using the playstation icons and i'm going to show you guys what this looks like on screen so if we go to button configuration hit begin you'll notice that you know there's a there's like a display here of a controller and this is where each of the buttons is so the triangle is the button that is highlighted on screen right now circles the button highlighted on screen right now so i'm just doing this in case you have an xbox controller that you're playing this on then you can kind of understand which buttons i'm referencing to when i say oh you press cross you press circle you press square right and also these are the actions that i have assigned to my faceplate buttons you can change these later but i'm going to be using the default ones which is jump for triangle circle for cancel x for select target and confirm and square for opening map and sub commands then you have select uh for select of hud and i want to make sure you guys understand something if you're on the playstation side of things this button is going to be different it is going to be your touchpad instead of the select button because the select button is a share button on a playstation controller right so the select button here is going to be your touchpad so whenever i talk about you know selecting hut elements you're going to be tapping you're not tapping you're going to be pressing your touchpad then your start button is the options button if you're on your uh playstation controller this should be fairly simple uh we have here the left stick to move your character right stick to move your camera this is fairly basic stuff uh and then we have the triggers for highlighting the different uh hot bars of the game this should be given to you in a tutorial uh if you start playing on a controller but some of you guys are gonna skip that tutorial i know what it's like nobody likes doing tutorials and games it's much easier just watch a youtube video and get all of the information in one go so i'm not going to blame you it is what it is but basically i have almost everything set to default with the exception of pressing down on the sticks but we'll talk about those later because these are some interesting things that hopefully you guys will learn from me uh with this video but anyway let's hit circle to go back on everything and we are at our most basic settings here that there's gonna be a difference in ui because my ui is already customizable if you wanna it's already customized to my liking if you want to mess around with that before you start the video then you can go into your hud layout and you can customize it however you want play around with it you know doing a video on hud customization would be like an endeavor on to itself so we're not going to go there so i'm just going to assume that you have the basic settings on your controller so how do i do things how do i navigate through the ui for instance like say i want to click on that quest that you got over there for want of memory that's a relic quest there's no spoilers in there so you don't have to worry about that but like if you want to navigate to that thing well if you're playing on pc and you're using like an xbox controller then you're gonna hit the back button or if you're using a playstation controller on pc you want to hit the share button or if you're using the playstation controller on a playstation then you want to press the touchpad and that will let you cycle through different ui elements you can kind of see my cursor moving all over the place and it lets you basically cycle through these different ui elements this is um a lot easier than trying to use like the touchpad to move around and whatnot and this is how you can select different things so say for instance you want to select the quest you make the thing go over there then you press x and that will open up your quest log and then you can press there and then you can go to the map and that will open up your map and tell you where your quest is supposed to go the map size is configurable as well i'll even teach you how to do it using a controller in just a bit here but uh yeah these are the basics of like navigating your ui then you can press circle to close any part of your ui and now you guys are gonna go like okay recon but sometimes i'm running around and i open my map and after i open my map then i can't seem to close it like i'm pressing circle and it's not closed that's because when you start moving it takes the focus away from your map so you can either cycle through the different hut elements to go back to your map as you can see the map is now in focus and then you press circle and that'll close the map or you can uh open up your map and just keep pressing the open map button which is the square and then eventually it'll close it again even if you are moving it's actually the easiest way of doing it but yeah that's how you do that stuff and say for instance if you open up that quest window and then you start moving around maybe you lose focus uh maybe you swap focus uh into something else and then suddenly oh but i'm trying to clicking circle and the quest window won't close that's because you don't have the hud focus on there which is why you have to use the um you have to use the select hud in order to get there and then you press circle always pay attention to that little hand which tells you which hud thing is currently active so that if you need to close something you need to make sure that you navigate there and you close it on pc you would usually just keep pressing escape until everything goes away on console doesn't work like that because circle is also used for other things but that's like the basics of navigating your ui you need to practice this you need to learn this now let's talk about using your abilities this is again very simple you press the right analog stick you'll see that it highlights my uh right side of my crossbar there the reason it's called a crossbar it's because as you can see the buttons are displayed in a cross shape and the reason they do that is so that it makes it easier for you to understand uh where each of the buttons goes so when it comes to the controller you're going to be using your faceplate buttons which are these and then you're going to be using your d-pad which is this right so if you look there it's fairly simple to understand what everything does because if you notice there's actually icons in there that tell you what everything does as a matter of fact if you have the default settings on which i currently don't have because i've messed with them and i've changed things around uh your display hotbar help should be on and when you do that it even tells you the names of the skills in each of your hot bars now personally i don't like that because it clutters up the ui quite a bit and i just don't like that stuff so i turned that stuff off pretty much instantly but if you need that in order to know which skills you're doing and what not at the start it might be helpful so feel free to use that like whatever you can use to make the transition easier for you you should use it okay but anyways as you can see this is the the basic and then you press the different buttons you have access to your different skills it's not that complicated you use the it'll give you access to the different skills that you have set up then if you press your l2 button or the left trigger that gives you access to the other bar now in case you guys are wondering what the logic usually is for my characters i'll tell you guys how i tend to do things but you know you should do things however it makes sense for you so for me usually on the right side i put like single target skills right these are all my single target skills and then i'll put like a couple of cooldowns that i might need to use because tanking is my main job if i'm playing a melee dps i might have like some some additional melee dps skills on the d-pad there and then on the left side i have aoe things like you can see right there aoe stuff right and then uh i also have my tanking cooldowns in there because that's just the way that i do things so left side aoes and tanking cooldowns right side aoe some tanking cooldown some utility paladin is a weird job to do bars for so don't pay too much attention the way i have my buttons put the buttons however the hell you want just be aware that how you use your skills is basically you know you press r2 or l2 and then you press the corresponding thing and this gives you access straight up to 16 slots we will be talking about how to add more slots but before we do that we should quickly brush up on how to target things because that is literally the hardest thing to do on controller is to get proper targeting done trust me as a tank this is extremely important for me and i've struggled with this for ages on end but you know the basic way of targeting things you just run up to something that you want to target you press x that's targeted right there right if you for instance if you target this and then you move over here and you try attacking this dummy by pressing your skills it's not going to work because your target is that other dummy so you have to cancel the target by pressing circle pressing x again now you have a new target right the thing is you can't do this while you're pressing r2 right because that's gonna do your skills like if i press r2 and i press x it's going to go into fastblade right blade and all of my other abilities that i can do right but uh you know if you want to swap targets you have to actually let go of r2 or l2 depending on which one you happen to be using press circle then press x on a new target and then continue your onslaught again remember you cannot be pressing the triggers while you're trying to select your target if you're using the x circle method but there's other ways of selecting targets so another way of selecting a target let's say okay but i don't want to you know i don't want to stop pressing r2 because like i'm going to be pressing buttons non-stop i don't have time oh i got to let go of r2 and then press x and then press circle this is too much work on i need something a little bit more streamlined that's fine so what you do is you hold down r2 and then you have r1 and l1 to cycle through targets so this is just me pressing l1 while holding down r2 you can cycle between all of the targets in front of you and you can go back and forth if you press r1 it goes to uh the target that you had before l2 goes to the next target or vice versa so like you know basically you can go back and forth with this it's just a matter of practicing and this this is very hard when you're in the middle of like a dungeon and stuff like that particularly for the tank and you're trying to target a specific thing it can get pretty frustrating but it requires a little bit of practice okay but this is how targeting works so i can be like over here attacking this target now i'm like okay i want to swap unfortunately it swapped to that one but you press it again now it swaps this guy now we're gonna swap over here and then you can swap back to that or you can swap to this one or you can swap to this one and the reason the targeting is going this way where it's like it's targeting specifically something that's in front of me like notice how right now i'm pressing l1 spamming it and it's not swapping targets if i move my camera like this it'll start swapping it only swaps the things that are directly in front of me that is because of my targeting settings and that is not the default setting so let me actually show you guys what we're working with here so if you go into your character configuration this is one of the things that you really got to pay attention to you go into your control settings and in the control settings there's a setting here i'm trying to get rid of this combat music thank you uh if we go into your character configuration control settings target settings notice that for starters there's a couple of options here like automatically lock on target when initiating auto attack i wholeheartedly would not recommend you to lock on targets at all and i don't i can't think of a single reason why you would want to lock onto a target i get it's more immersive and it looks like oh it's like dark souls i lock on to the target this is an mmo this is not dark souls okay don't don't be locking on target it's a waste of your time you're going to be swapping targets multiple times unless it's a boss fight and even if it's a boss fight you don't want to be locked onto a target because you need to be aware of your surroundings and you'll be able to rotate the camera and not have the camera fixed on one target because there there's always going to be stuff happening everywhere you don't want to be locked onto a target trust me on this okay so um you want to keep automatically face target and all that stuff but one of the important things here is by default i believe that type 1 is selected which is ignore depth and i have it to type 2 which is cone so this will cycle through targets that are in a cone in front of your character whereas the ignore depth will actually select targets literally anywhere so for instance in my current targeting settings these targets are in front of me i can cycle through them right i can cycle through these targets however if the targets were behind me nothing nothing they're behind me see only when i turn the camera a certain way but like if the targets are completely behind me it's not going to select them and this makes target a lot easier this is why i use cone now if you were to swap this back to ignore depth what that's going to do is it's going to select targets that are behind you now personally i don't like this i don't like ignore depth but that's just a me thing not to mention i've had situations where like i would have monsters directly in front of me and ignore depth with target like a target that would be all the way up like a thousand miles away and i'd be like no no not like that so personally i'd recommend uh cone but if you want to change it to ignore depth practice around with it see whichever one you happen to prefer okay that's like the basics of targeting stuff you either use x and circle to select and cancel or you press l2 or r2 and then you hit l1 or r1 to cycle between the different targets that's usually what i end up doing because i'm always pressing the two trigger buttons uh in order to access my abilities that's the way that i personally do it that's not the way that you have to do it a couple of additional settings when it comes to targets uh i would recommend keeping automatically face target when using action because that makes it so that your character turns around to face the target because sometimes if you're not facing the target you're not going to be able to use your ability and sometimes targets move so automatically facing target makes it easier i have enable auto target you can turn this on or off it's really up to you because i'm a tank i'm always attacking like everything that's in front of me so whatever obviously disabled targeting of pets and minions we're in battle because it's not particularly useful uh switch target circle to target select so what this does is there's something another way of selecting targets which is if you don't have if you're not pressing any of the triggers you can use your d-pad and your d-pad actually allows you to select targets although i think i have that turned off because i wasn't using d-pad for target selection uh so yeah but basically there's a way in which you can select target so like if i do this for instance i'm selecting my character but it's not a hard lock it's a soft lock so this will allow me to cast things onto my character without necessarily locking onto it so like i can do this and now the target is gone right so i can be selecting this and then select my target with a soft lock do clemency and i still have my main target selected that's something that you can configure the d-pad to do uh but personally i try to keep things a little bit minimal but like i said target selection is one of the hardest things to do so mess around with it basically what this does is instead of you having that switch target to soft lock it will instantly lock onto you whenever you uh whenever you do this circle select whatever right uh again these are things that you're gonna have to try out for yourself this is what i would recommend you should play around with it and figure out what you want another thing ground targeting settings some characters have ground target abilities the paladin doesn't have those so i don't tend to use these all that much uh i would recommend turning on limit ring uh movement to targeting range because you know sometimes you'll be able to target beyond your agent with a controller you know with a mouse it's very easy to just like place the target where you want to with the controller it's a little bit more challenging so i just feel like limited to your targeting range so that you're you're not constantly struggling to place something down and press action twice to execute because otherwise you have to press your skill and then stop pressing your bar and then press x and it's a hassle this way you just press the ability twice and boom it it gives you the target and it fires it off that would be my recommendation uh you want to make sure that you display target ring display target lines and display aggro lines uh this is important because it's going to show you when certain things aggro you so it's useful to have and then there's filter settings these are the settings that i use uh you can feel free to play around with this as much as you want healers might need different settings so these are all things that you have to kind of like figure out for yourself but this is like the basic one that i use and i use this for all of my characters uh i also have enable target cycling when weapon is sheathed i can cycle through non-party player characters party members everything but when my weapon is drawn i'm only cycling through non-party player characters this is because you can cycle through your player your party um like for instance let me summon my chocobo here and i'll be able to give you an example you can cycle through your party using up and down up and down on the d-pad which makes it easier for you to target things on your party um but you won't be able to target other players this way so sometimes i might be like in a place like in abajar in eureka and i see a player that needs help and maybe i can climb and see them or something i will use the uh left and right analog stick to target them when my weapon is drawn so that's why that setting is there and then aggroing enemies and npcs and objects there's some customization here for targets and stuff i don't use everything they really do give you a lot of options and some of these just require you to play around with it and figure stuff out uh depending on what you want there's also some character settings here just like for this playing headgear and whatnot i'm not gonna be talking about this one thing that i would recommend and this is just like in general is that a lot of times when you're uh when you're playing final fantasy 14 it can be overwhelming with the special effects on screen so if you ever find yourself to be like oh my god i can't see a damn thing with all these special effects on screen try putting your party effects and other effects to show limited uh because that might help you out uh cleaning up the the the cluster of effects that shows up on screen at any given time so that's just like a a general uh tip that i can give you there now another thing for control is the movement types and this is a bit of a struggle for me uh and that's because right now i'm using legacy type but legacy type is not the most perfect thing that i would like and the reasoning behind that is that you'll notice that the camera auto adjusts when i'm moving this is not necessarily something i like but what does legacy type do for me that the other types doesn't do and let me also get rid of my pet here we don't need them anymore thank you so what legacy type does is that when you press back on your stick your character turns around and runs you guys like oh wow what a fantastic what a fantastic thing rura khan that's amazing really yes because the difference is if you go into uh standard what happens is your character is gonna backtrack like this and i'll tell you what i like standard for the strafing i love the strafing and standard this is a thousand times better than legacy when it comes to strafing the problem is that you can't go back on a whim you have to like turn your camera in like strafe left so you lose time doing this and sometimes this will cost you in terms of uh in terms of like certain abilities that bosses do like certain telegraphs you'll get hit by them because you're wasting time turning your camera whereas if you go to legacy then you can just do this and run away right you can just do this and run away instead of like slowly backtracking it's like there's a case to be made for both if i could have legacy without this like look at this i hate this if i could have legacy but with strafing i'd be a million times happier but unfortunately you have to take the good with the bat and you get this like auto camera adjustment thing and as far as i can tell there's no way to turn that off i've tried a million different things there's no way to turn that off with a controller i know that there's like stuff that you can do on pc to like customize special buttons on your controller but it's like look i play on pc and playstation and i don't want to mess around with that either way my recommendation is legacy type you feel free to do uh whatever you want that's just a little bit of like movement settings as well but now let's talk about um getting your bar a little bit bigger because you'll notice that you're like on okay so you have you have like your your eight abilities on the right side and your eight abilities on the left side but there's more to your bar than that there's like four abilities on top of that on the right and the left side then there's a third hot bar with more abilities on there how do you access those well for starters these particular abilities right here these are not supposed to be used these are cool down trackers so that for instance notice that um fighter flight is nowhere on my bars you can't see fight or flight on my bars and you guys like okay so how do you use fight or flight rukhan and if i press l2 and r2 it's going to give me a third bar so if i press both triggers at the same time i get a third bar and then in there i'll press fight or flight and then once i hit fight or flight and i let go i can no longer see fight or flight and that's what that bar up there is for it's to let me know when certain abilities are going to be available again so it's basically a bar that i use to track my cooldowns the reason atonement is in there is so that i know cause sometimes in the middle of battle i might you know lose track how many atonement charges do i have and you know i can actually see it right there so that bar is just to keep tabs on things that you have in cooldown and you guys like okay okay so you've added an additional bar behind the bars that we can actually see and then you have something to track the things that are on that bar how do i do literally any of this so for starters let's talk about adding a cool down bar you can go into your character configuration and you can go into your hotbar settings and in the hot bar settings you want to go to the very first one which is this play now in this play you can put more hot bars like i can put hot bar one can put hot bar five i don't even know where hot bar 5 is but you can put hot bar 5 hot bar 6 hot bar 4. like look hot bar 4 is down there for some reason but that one right there would be hot bar 3. right so you turn on hot bar 3 and you can choose what type of hot uh hot bar do you want like you want a 6 by 2 do you want a four by three do you want a three by four that's completely up to you right oh no i've destroyed my ui for you guys i hope you guys are happy about it but anyways i was gonna go into hud anyway to configure it but basically after you set up a bar then you go into your hud layout and for this i would actually recommend the mouse but if you don't have a mouse you can still do it with a controller what you do is you hold down l1 r1 virtual mouse mode and you have a controller right here your l2 becomes left click your r2 becomes right click so i can hit l2 here and i can actually move my hotbar 3. but you can also use the d-pad to kind of just like slide it around after you've selected it so usually i have my hotbar 3 around here and another important thing about this is that you can also go into ui element settings and you can increase the size which you can see that that particular hotbar is a little bit bigger so there's some zooming functionality here i have that one at 160 so that i can see the cooldowns a little bit better right but that's how you add hotbars which is in the menu and then you go to your hud and you decide where the hot bar goes but like i said you know messing around with your um with your ui that's like a whole video onto itself but that's the very basics of how to create a cooldown checking hotbar okay so what about the additional hotbar and the back there how do i get there character configuration hotbar settings cross hotbar i actually think it's in custom yeah enable expanded controls with l2 plus r2 now an important thing about this is that there's two ways of doing it see right now i have both of them giving me cross hotbar 3 right you can have as many cross hot bars as you could possibly want um and you can swap those but basically i chose cross hot bar three right for both of them so the idea here is if you press l2 and then r2 it can give you one bar and if you press r2 and then l2 it can give you another one but i made it in a way where it just gives me the same one every time because i kept messing that up the more i you know the more i tried adding more and more things i realized like okay in the heat of battle it's just too hard for me to keep track oh did i put did i press l2 first or did i press r2 first so i just made both of them give me the same bar and the way that works is basically i said it's hot bar three so if you press r1 you can see that there's a little menu that shows up and that menu tells you one two three four so you can have four hot bars and then on the left side there's seven six uh five six seven and eight so those are the different hot bars that you have access to see that's bar five that's bar six bar seven bar one which is the one that i use bar two which this is an expanded cross hot bar that i'll talk about as well but if you guys noticed i said that i was using cross hot bar three cross hot bar three right size so anything that i put on this bar will always show up whenever i press l2 and r2 see it's the exact same bar and that's how you customize it you change it here to bar 3 by holding down on r1 and then pressing x and then you just drag abilities in there so like you go into your actions and traits you can just straight up drag abilities in there like oh i want total eclipse and you can select and put it in a place in here or if you want to actually drag the abilities like this was a mouse remember that shortcut i told you l1 r3 virtual mouse mode l2 is left click so you just press l2 you can drag abilities to wherever you want in case you don't want to use a mouse at all you can still just plug a mouse into your console or whatever to set up your bars and then just play using the controller but this is also to show you that you can do literally anything that you do with a mouse you can do in with a controller as well by using virtual mouse mode so let's press l1 and r3 again to make that go away and now you guys know how to actually make that particular crosshat bar 3 show up like for instance say that you guys actually don't want that to give you cross hot bar 3 because you're doing something with cross hot bar 3 you can come in here and you can go like okay i actually want uh l2 and r2 to give me cross hotbar 3 left right and for the purpose of this let me just go ahead and go to cross hotbar 3 and on the left side we will just add we're just going to fill it up with iron will right so what happens now is that when you press r2 l2 it'll give you that crosshat bar 3 left and if you press l2 r2 it'll give you my original crosshat bar so this is just to give you an idea that this will give you access to more skills if that is something that you want personally i don't do that because like i said in the heat of battle it's a pain in the ass to figure out which button you pressed first so my recommendation use it for the same one and that way you're never going to make a mistake with it now the additional bars that we have on there is this the wxhb which is i think it's called the wide cross hot bar or something like that and you can also increase the things that you get with the white cross hot bar because if you notice in mine i only have four abilities you can actually have eight abilities in there if you want to there's a lot of flexibility so as you can see this white crosshat bar is simultaneous l2 or r2 double tap they say and i don't know why they say and but it doesn't really matter so display left with uh l2 double tap display right with r2 double tap so the way that i access that is like if i press r2 it acts as the right crossbar if i double tap r2 it accesses that and gives me access to my passage of arms my shield lob and other things right and if i tap it on the other side i have access to my shirt my cover and my hollowed ground as well as my what's it called iron will right so it's a double tap thing gives you access to those two additional bars and like i said you can go in here and you can configure these to have more buttons like you'll notice that now they have additional four buttons it's just like i don't want to mess my ui it took me a long time to get my y in a way that i like it but you can clearly see that there's additional buttons here to place these on and you can see additional buttons on this one as well but one of the things that you will notice is that you can't actually customize this bar so if you try moving skills off of here it won't work that's because this is referencing another bar so if we actually go character configuration wxhb which ones are these cross hot bar to left cross hot bar to right so in order to change those you'll have to go cross hot bar remember i told you one two three we're gonna go to two and there they are and now you can just change them just like you would change any other bar on your on your thing i know that this is a lot to take in it's going to require quite a bit of practice i recommend if you're still getting used to using the controller potentially use a mouse just to set up the bars but remember r1 lets you swap between the different bars so you use r1 to swap between the bars and then you customize them and remember with what each bar references and you can always come back here the character configuration and look at it's like oh okay so my expanded hold controls with alt l2 plus r2 those give me cross hot bar three right and the other ones give me cross hot bar to left and right then you know okay so two is the stuff that i have on the sides and three is the stuff that i have down here right hopefully this is understandable and then you guys are like okay but my cross hot bars are like all over the place you can customize where they go so if you scroll down to the bottom here there's an option somewhere where is that option is it in the crosshat bar yeah it's in the crosshat bar so in the crosshat bar there's an option that tells you position the w cross hot bar separately from the regular crosshat bar so what this does is going to split it up and that way when you go into your hud layout you'll notice that you have things are so messy in my hud i'm so sorry but this is just the way that i'm able to customize things the way they want but anyways this would be your right w crossbar and this would be your left w clock crossbar so you can move them to any location that you want so that it looks a little bit neater and tighter the way that i have them if that is something that you want to do and then here is your main hotbar i believe that you can even separate the regular hot bar and you guys like okay but i don't find this hot bar to be particularly intuitive recon okay that's fine because the whole damn thing can be configured as in as many different ways as you want so to give you an idea i have it for d-pad plus action buttons but you can have a d-pad plus d-pad and action buttons plus action buttons what does that mean that means that when you press left it'll give you the d-pads on um on the left side you'll have both d-pads of l and r and on the right side you have the faceplate buttons okay so when you press right it gives you the right side of the bar when you press left it gives you the left side of both bars whichever way you prefer personally i think that this one's way more intuitive because everything is here and then everything is here but you can change that to do whatever the hell you want it's completely and utterly up to you now finally let's talk about those macros that i set up on my controller because um here's the deal if we go into system configuration gamepad settings button configuration uh you'll notice that there's two things here that are different so by default i believe that the pressing down on your left analog stick is going to lock on if i'm not mistaken and then pressing down on the right analog stick is going to give you first person now if you guys remember i told you that lock-on in my opinion is completely useless and has no merit whatsoever i played through the entirety of the game without ever using lock-on and the few times that i used lock-on in the beginning i felt like it was hindering my gameplay so lock-on for me is something that is useless so i have no intention of ever putting that back on and in terms of first person you can actually just access first person by zooming all the way into your character you're not in first person there you don't need a button for that you can just zoom in because you're not going to be doing this during combat you're not going to be going like oh yes i'm going to this is skyrim now i'm playing skyrim that's not how this works right you're not you're not here to play skyrim so um since and by the way the zooming in in case you guys are wondering the way that you zoom into your characters you hold down on l1 and you use the right stick up and down up and down and it'll zoom in or zoom out depending on what you want to do and this you can actually do during battle as well because sometimes your character gets like reset a little bit whenever you get into an instance you can just like zoom it out all the way play fully zoomed out play a little bit more zoomed in if you want to zoom in if you want to get detail on something that is happening it's very very easy like i said l1 and your right stick zoom in zoom out and this also lets you access first person mode so you don't need the two bindings and one of the things that you'll know is that like if you try playing on a controller it's like okay my my bindings are very precious okay so if lock-on is useless and i don't need uh first-person mode i can better use these buttons for something else so i have them to utilize macro 98 and macro 99 so what am i doing with this if you then go to your macros so i have a bunch of macros let me actually increase the size of this by the way the way that you increase the size of ui elements you press down on r3 you can increase it and then when you get to maximum it will decrease it again so you press down on r3 and you can increase literally anything so like if you want to go to your journal like oh this is kind of small you can increase it as big as you want or as small as you want right it's just hope pressing down on r3 zooms into things which is very useful as well but anyways going back to user macros like i said so macro 98 and 99 uh would be i was going to use the mouse because when i'm on bc i tend to use mouse every now and then here you go macro 98 macro 99 so what do i do with macro 98 i do i don't remember what macro lock does but basically i have a macro that does level sync it does my mount it does sprint and it is peloton even though i don't really use peloton anymore pelton i have a separate button for it so this is kind of like my uh mount dismount and level sync and you guys might be like why would you want to have level sync on that macro trust me when you're farming fates every second counts particularly when there's blue mages around and i made this macro when i was uh farming fates during the yokai watch event where blue mages would just show up to an event and blow it up before i'd even get to press the level sync button with my controllers so from that moment on i just made this macro and you know you feel free to copy this macro it's not like it's friggin it's not like this is rocket science right you can understand what it does so as you can see right now every time i press l3 brings up my mount if i'm in combat and i can't bring up my mount it'll hit sprint so that i can run away so it's kind of like a runaway mound it's an overall movement macro and when i dismount it will automatically level sync me so for instance there's a fake nearby i can actually show you right so we get to this fate right and i'm like oh i need to get started on this fate as fast as possible boom i'm level synced dismounted and level synced at the exact same time now i'm in combat and i want to run away press the macro again boom sprinting away boom now i'm not level synced so they're going to stop attacking me any moment now at least they should and as soon as i get out of combat i'll be able to mount again boom done right so that's kind of like a macro that does a lot of really useful stuff this movement sprint level sync all of that the other macro you can customize it to do whatever you want uh personally because i made a tank i have that macro to provoke and it turns on my battle stance the battle stands on is is mostly just uh if i'm in town and i feel like unsheathing my weapon i'll just press it right but it's mostly my taunt macro so i don't even use it in other classes but you know you can use it for something else i don't know exactly what you can figure out maybe a cool down that you want to put on your bars or something like that and you'll pop it up with your right stick i just use it as my universal taunt because tank is the role that i tend to play the most but um yeah there you go that's pretty much how i personally play controller hopefully this helped you out um the like i said the logic of the way in which i put things on my bars is like i'll have some cool um on the on the wide bar so the stuff on the far left and the far right i also always have ranged attacks on that far left bar i don't know why but it's just like you know it was something that i started using like this and then i just always kept it so my ranged attacks are always there because range attacks is like this situational thing they're not like spamming ranges attacks a lot of the times it's usually you have to move away from the boss so that's why i put that there like kind of out of the way you don't really do it all that much and then on the right side i have my single target stuff and now you guys are like how are you bringing up that context menu whenever you click uh whenever you target things it's square square is both your map but it's also a context menu i guess i should have mentioned that a little bit earlier sorry it's kind of like doing this off the cuff but yeah this gives you a context menus like if you want to also like emote 10 pcs or something you can do it like this as well you target the npc press square you can also use it to mark stuff if you want to but yeah square is like your your context menu for literally anything so you can target anything that you want to target and then you use the context menu for it boom and that's uh my controller guide if you guys want to see like the way that i you know organized my bars for certain classes like the logic that it makes like it would take me a long time to explain the logic of literally everything that i've done on my pal then but if you guys want to know more about those then let me know particularly let me know which class you'd like me to do it for but do be aware i'm not an omni main i'll tell you right now the classes that i'm gonna be working on so like don't ask me for some like a black mage i'm not gonna level up a black mage okay i don't care about black mages sorry i'm not an omni man but like i'll do one for each of the tanks because i'm a tank main so i'll do one for each of thanks at least i'll do scholar uh i'll do machinists i'll do summoner and i'll do the goon these are probably going to be the classes that i will do and i can explain to you the logic behind my decisions as to where i place things on my bars for a controller for each of these classes but like if you ask me for ninja it's like dude i can't play ninja saved my life you asked me for monk nope samurai nope my reaper is at zero so it's like out of the classes that i have at like level 80 i can give you the i can give you like a bar that i've made for them but other classes no because i don't really play them but anyways that's gonna be it for this video it's already way longer than i initially intended but hopefully it provided you with some knowledge and if you guys enjoyed it hit up with a like if you're not enjoyed with dislike feedback is important i'll see you guys in the next one stay strong stay safe peace out
