Filmmaker reacts to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) for the FIRST TIME!

yo yo yo what's up everybody welcome back to another movie reaction and commentary today we're going to be hopping into the second film of pirates of the caribbean dead man's chest i think this is the one where we got squid face i don't know i'm really why i should say octopus because i think he's an octopus yeah i'm excited about this one this is the one that i was most excited about going into and that is seriously primarily because of the fact that the homie and his cgi face is so damn cool man like it really is cool it's such a an incredible achievement at least to me and i'm just geeking out i'm nerding out here um but i remember when i first saw that and i've seen it multiple times i've seen it just do like you know clips of like oh really good cgi um that would just be recommended to me and i had corridor crew corridor crew did a really awesome video on uh the octopus and like all of the movement and the physics and the lighting and just a lot of time that went into it i'm not gonna go into the specifics here but definitely check out the video if you can uh they're really dope uh but yeah i'm excited to see what the narrative is going to be about because like i said i only saw the um that vfx version uh and that's it so it's gonna be really interested seeing how um whoever that character is is gonna fit himself or itself into the story so that way i can give even greater appreciation for it because i already dug it i already freaking love what they were doing with that character because of all the effort i was put into the the vfx but i'm excited to see what lays us on to the next adventure for jack sparrow i have no idea but i'm hyped i really enjoyed the first one but like always guys if you want to be able to watch you hear all that i gotta say and the rings that looked insane yo i'm surprised they were even able to show some of this that's damn yeah that's gruesome i'm already getting a a darker tone not just from the subject matter but i mean just look at the color grading of this as well too we've been nothing we've been in nothing but just blue tones grayish hues everything's just been sad and [Laughter] depressing bro every intro is phenomenal this guy does not give a damn he's like i don't care if everything around me is depressing i'm jack sparrow i have infinite flow and enlightenment the world manifested through my movement no that don't do no good it's a damn good shot man what on earth that's a thing like he jokes around but that dude is just like legit like he will shoot you that way direction captain come on snap to and make sale you know this works over everybody on the cruise is like ah what the heck i'm just here to be i don't know i feel like they all just are sticking around because dude who else is jack sparrow there's literally no one else like him even if i don't get paid a lot just being around this dude is probably hilarious we've each left our mark on the other what mark did he leave on really oh wow so they got some personal beef okay that's interesting that adds a nice little layer to this guy that is definitely needed because he already doesn't look intimidating but he could be super sharp why is the rum always gone [Laughter] because you're an alcoholic that's that's probably why and also a pirate oh that is so cool was not expecting him to be in this film i stood up for it don't eat that don't you eat it man don't do it after that eat it like it's a popcorn okay all right curl and all the ravenous hunger to the man what bears the black spots damn wow he already cursed him that's insane i love i love this i love stuff like this man this actually reminds me of uh just a little bit of that one love death and robots episode [Music] oh what the hell was that what the hell was that what is going on here is that a kraken are they talking about the kraken bro that is so unfortunate that is that is so unfortunate yeah that's a that's a good fear to have in this film all that ocean yeah so now you got davey jones and you got the kraken in on this i'm not gonna lie i don't know how you want me to fear for that other dude but he somehow branded jack sparrow so we'll see i'm not going to eat you don't eat me no don't eat me uh-oh oh that's good foreshadowing that's cool so i'm going to assume that the people here are probably cannibals because why else would that parrot be saying that that was pretty cool yeah these are totally cannibals probably i do gotta say i love that even though we are still in the beginning segments of there it does feel like we're traveling jack what on earth this dude you got to be kidding me bro [Laughter] he's their freaking ruler savvy licking well look at licky what the heck what the heck does bolika licky mean like what i expect then that we can come to some sort of understanding i'm here to negotiate i'm listening [Laughter] she said listen to this that is really funny that's a baller move i care not for cursed aztec gold my desires are not so provincial there's more than one chest of value in these i'm interested in finding out it's good that we're getting that little character segment into him that's good ain't no way these guys are still out at sea i kind of like low-key forgot about them it's ours for the taking todd's coming in natural i'll be honest i love these two though seriously they're having so much fun with this and i can tell i can truly tell i don't understand why you even do that i don't even understand why you would even remotely want to put that in your mouth this guy doesn't even realize they're about to burn this dude alive and oh he's out oh yeah he got the hell out of there they looked over he was gone [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Laughter] man i gotta say shout out to these guys because this is terrifying actually you wouldn't need everyone about six would do oh my god oh dude this is so bad oh no [Laughter] oh that thing is done for oh man that is a terrible fate man that is a terrible thing find a rock okay anything this dude is in is just so damn amusing i wonder what jack sparrow's character was based off you guys know they are flintstoning this yo i gotta say even though like there isn't nearly as much like lore being built around like the story with the elements because you know this isn't the first film i'm enjoying just watching just everything just become a spectacle this is pretty funny love all the camera tricks that are happening here love all the camera angles [Music] [Music] insane dude this guy is a god for real but the way he was screaming though [Music] damn i mean i know the padding helped him but jeez i'm surprised this dude did not just die from that but it's jack sparrow he just he literally can't i won't leave without him yeah yeah you all need to get to moving [Applause] oh bro dude in real life do you know how f he would be did you see how fast that one dude was running way too fast he's hungry [Applause] that dog's like i need to get the [ __ ] out of here man what we need to do is make sale for port royal with all haste william i shall trade you the compass my mayor william is on a video game side quest man i absolutely love it but also his father is alive imagine the last thing you know in god's green earth is the roar of the kraken and the reeking odor of a thousand rotting corpses i love the soundtrack during this the soundtrack is is bumping is worthy you know you talking about the crack in here that thing is no joke yeah it feels like in this film they really wanted to touch on world expansion because we are traveling to a lot of places here and i'm not opposed to it it's nice that i mean it just makes sense you know the first film was obviously about our characters in this film it's like world building so i get it it's definitely a different pace though jack sparrow does not know what you want oh snap this is interesting i wonder what lore is being built here and it is inside the chest you seek don't it i also love the setting the setting is really lock it away cool a chest and hide the chest from the world wow oh snaps that's davey jones heart it's in that chest the black [Laughter] he's like yo yeah you're cursed we gotta do a whole dance to get rid of that jar of dirt going to help if you don't want it give it back hmm yeah [Laughter] oh man that's funny have destiny [Music] cool transition that was a cool transition also i got the hiccups so i can do really about that whoa what the heck sick that was pretty sick i'm telling you this guy's on a whole video game mission moved on here we go we finally got this dude man do it's just so crazy because there's so much going on on his face like there's so much happening this is blowing my mind right now oh what's up this is so awesome i think like he's up there obviously i compare him with like thanos just being able to give so much character to someone that just does not look human so much talent what the heck yo this dude can teleport what the heck how did that just happen yeah he's a problem established my proposal is sound in principle now we're just haggling over prize i love the mannerisms yo it's so awesome he's so cool man damn that's such an awesome design to a lifetime of solitude in your name while you roam free yep [Laughter] he's always true to his character it really is tortuga guys that was awesome david jones is cool man i love his design that is a cool freaking design i already gassed them up in the previous movie but i just hope you all understand that a lot of talent went into that it's exactly the same as your story just one chapter behind i chased a man across the seven seas um who who is this is this the guy that branded jack sparrow did he just happen to come out here [Music] oh that's the commodore whoa i was not expecting to see him here i actually really like them yep you know as much as this is like pretty just effed up and i'd probably be annoyed by this i actually wouldn't mind being a part of this damn oh my god damn i didn't think he needed to go through all of that [Music] oh no way dude this guy is jamming it this guy's stevie wonder as well are you kidding me he's playing the the organ with his neck beard tentacles man that is so cool look at it he's basically the count of circumstances dude i love david jones he's so cool he's he's so cool man he's like cool you could take all these slashes and you could do it yourself actually that's so effed out man imagine meeting your son after all these years and you're a little like crustacean you have to whip them the key oh my goodness that is freaky as heck man elizabeth hide the rum you know these clothes do not flatter you at all it should be a dress or nothing ah he said hide the rum that is funny wow that is funny you look bloody awful what are you doing here you hired me i can't help it if your standards are lacked you smell funny jack yo i'm so happy this all right this is cool i like what we have here like this is good there's a lot of this is good soil where does it point it points to the thing you want most in this world i wonder if that compass does do that because that would be awesome it makes sense i mean he has a bunch of hidden gems like this dude is a magician at this point i challenge davey jones yo that's crazy because i was wondering because i heard his organs playing in the background i was wondering when he said that that they was going to stop yes it did man the stakes my soul an eternity of servitude no whoa an eternity of servitude what mastatina feel free to go ashore the better next time we make man who is playing him i want to know who's playing him i want to know who is playing that character i mean this is really cool because he's interacting with this thing man like he's interacting with it so is it like a combination of physical like or physical practical effects and cgi i take this with a promise i'll find a way to sever jones's hold on you and not rest until this plane pierces his heart yo i love this i love this part right here and i'm so happy they're not playing it for jokes i really am i'm happy they took it seriously because loki it's a serious topic we're talking about like a missing father figure and the convergence the the reunion of them like that's that's a very important topic and i'm so happy that they did not just make it into some joke because this is a funny film but the reason why i think it's so damn good is because they just know when to dial it back [Music] oh oh my goodness i knew that was gonna do that wow they are they they are sprinkling some spice in here damn that was not paprika right there that was something fierce i love it i'm here for and it this day be cussed by we who ready to wait yo this dude is just like you work for me and you will never have hope in your hearts that was such a cool way to signal the kraken too what up i'm not afraid of the ocean i'm afraid of that though i'm afraid of that what the hell wow that looks crazy yeah there's so many villains in this film there's so many like really dangerous villains in this film i love how this thing is like using its its tentacles too man like it's so cool like you can see why people are scared of this thing it's taking down ships in one go [Music] my goodness man what the heck what do you do what on earth do you do man faster that'll be the devil to play first who sent that thieving charlatan onto my set who told them of the king damn look at the lighting on this dude's face man like the way the lighting is like interacting with his skin and how it's creating these different shades of green and then it goes into this red when it faces the light because that's what white does and when was this what what who was this made was this 2005 2006 want to know why do tell deity curiosity okay you're going to want it [Laughter] yeah they are alike they're always goofing off man like yo i forget his freaking whip can do that what [Music] that is so cool that is way too cool that has no business being that cool man the people snapped on this film i don't really understand the vfx artists are just what on earth man you're all right thank god i came to find you yo all these dudes like her all these all the all of the dudes right here have some sort of thing with her man that's funny because if jones is dead who's to call his terrible beastie off the hunt hey oh man oh man this is this is this is a little awkward i hope you're here to see it i can't let you do that either so sorry i knew you'd warm up to me eventually [Laughter] this is good i'm loving this later half of the film man this is really good it's very similar to like the first film with how things just happened come together buy your lead mr turner i'm so yeah this is so cool man this is so awesome awesome that was so man yeah you guys have mentioned that they have plays of this which makes sense because i see it i totally see it yeah this is very like original pirates of the caribbean just seeing how every plot point is flowing through the action love that and it looks so dope i feel like parts of the caribbean is best when they are actually fighting which is cool oh dude that is so cool man that's cool brad that's really freaking cool man this whole thing is so freaking cool the choreography is off the charts man like i'm kind of stunned and how they're shooting this is flawless man like it's so effortless as you can see they still have time to just play around with the camera yo he is so good at just just throwing things aiming things shooting things he's accurate as hell there is so much pirating that's happening i love it there's so much pirating wow whacked the hell out of him here you go i'm so happy this dude is like back in it man he's cool bro that thing can just pull up from the ocean man you know how cool that is [Music] we have been getting non-stop action for i think the bat like the past 30 minutes [Music] let them taste the triple gun and the thing is like and i'm gonna stop talking because this is insane but every person on davey jones's ship looks unique they look like they have the same amount of detail poured into them it blows my mind like i'm i'm genuinely floored by this we give it up oh my goodness yeah i forgot to even mention this is happening in broad daylight this is cg this is great cgi in broad daylight there's only half a dozen takes of powder then load the rum [Music] [Laughter] that was funny as hell that was funny as hell man damn what the heck i want to see this scene without the tentacles i want to see like is it like wire work is it like i just i just want to see it i want to see that scene without the tentacles because that is so cool man also the way that dude died was insane he got bent out the little hole through where the cannons were that's terrible guys how how does this look better than the newer films out today like i'm genuinely floored there has to be a reasoning because this is this is this is thanos this is thanos i would even say in ways better than the cgi theodore like on thanos because it's not flat like i can see the contrast of shadows of lighting of shading texture i can see it all [Music] i'm so happy he's taking a shot hell yes i've been saying this dude doesn't miss it finally pays off damn that is so cool i mean prepare to cast off ah dammit man that's that's crazy man that's crazy dog but i think she's gonna pull a trick on her damn they're so good man that's so good they held on to that scene of them being all close and whatnot man damn [Music] yo man that looks insane child this dude man no way bruh [Music] [Music] yo that is dope damn i'm not gonna lie i miss when films do that stuff man y'all that was so cool damn all right guys and that's the end to dead man's chest wait there's an after credit i've learned there's an after credit we're gonna see where that after credit is y'all this is a dog all right yeah all right guys and that is the end to dead man's chest all right everybody we just got down prior to the caribbean dead man's chest this this guys i don't even know man the second the whole like second half of this film i would even say i liked more than the first i liked it more than the first and i could like the first film was great and i i know i understand that the first part of this film required a lot of expositioning but they don't they did it so in a way where it was enjoyable right like i wasn't bored but i could tell that the you know the the pacing of it it was all geared to something i could tell that things were about to just go on just a just a spray but man the second half of that film the second half of this film is awesome on so many levels man there's like obviously i've said all that i need to say about davey jones character but just him as a villain him just being an entity where you don't even feel like you can beat him you just have to survive him or try to bribe him he doesn't feel like you can you can defeat him and i think that's why i loved about the kraken as well too because the kraken represented that just from the sheer amount of times it came back and eventually won but there were so many other you know story lines that were just so enjoyable to watch i mean the compass now having a greater uh a greater meaning you know just being able to say oh well it's not just a regular compass it's a compass that goes off of like you know what your intentions are what you hold dear to your heart and seeing what essentially was not even just a triangle but a square effect happening between the commodore um uh willow william jack sparrow and just like and just all in love with this girl it made for such an enjoyable scene but the thing is that once that happened it just didn't stop it did not stop and it just kept ramping and ramping and ramping and i i start to realize that i think prior to the caribbean is best when people are fighting and it's more so because they do such a phenomenal job at storytelling and and the progression of themes of story of character plot points through the fighting and that's just shown through you know the many levels that they choose to fight in how they're fighting on like a wheelbarrow and then they're fighting in the ocean and they're fighting a crack it like it's so well done and it's quite literally genius how they do it um it's pretty enjoyable but guys i would love to hear what your thoughts are about this i love how they ended this i love that there wasn't like a a nice little bow at the end as if this was its own little movie i love that this one segues to an even greater adventure in the third one which i'm
