everybody we left the shop and we're out at the range today for an impromptu field test this is the first firing of the a new type one FG 42 and we're going to be using privy partisan eight millimeter ammo and as usual for the initial test we have one round loaded in our magazine so let's see how it works okay we're going to examine the fired case make sure everything's okay and we'll be right back five minutes later we found our case it looks fine the primers fine and it does not have the traditional FG 42 stepped chamber indication on it rick has always said he was never going to do that and it looks like it's SuperFlow so anyway that's that's the word of the day I think superfluous okay anyway it does have a big dent right up here in the mouth probably can't see that maybe I'll if not I'll put a close-up picture in this video whenever I edit it if I can actually pull that off I do have an awesome burn mark on my finger but I didn't feel that at all and you know I think it's just a little bit of carbon or whatever but yeah you don't have to worry about burning your fingers it does put a black mark there though so let's grab our full magazine and see how that works alright we're back where the full magazine let's see how it runs all right we just had one stoppage it's probably a light primer strike we'll give it a second inject that one and we'll check it out when we're done in the meantime we do have some discoloration of the muzzle break and unfortunately I know you guys don't want to hear this but the cases are hitting the receiver just like they do on a real FG 42 they're scratching the seracote or the paint I'm not sure what what's going on there we'll see if it rubs off when we're done but if you shoot your gun you're going to have marks on it and we're empty so we're going to pause this video we'll grab that live round see what the deal is with it and we'll be right back alright I have that round reloaded we'll try it a couple more times I'm not even going to eject it from now on I'll just pull the OP right back and hit it and see if it goes off well I'm gonna give up on that round we're going to see if it looks any different than the fired cases it did look like it was a light primer strike to me but with it not going off with repeated tries I don't know what to say okay in the interest of conserving ammunition so I can try this again in another couple of days after I have a chance to clean this out we're going to do five rounds in each magazine with a mag change and that's going to be it for today okay seemed to work well I did not get the bolt hold-open right so when I popped the magazine out the bolt closed not a big deal I just need to practice on that thank you for coming along I hope you enjoyed the video and whenever I get done I'll post some really upsetting pictures of the receiver where it got dinged up but hey everybody's going to want to shoot these things and it makes them look real anyway so again hope you liked the video we'll see you next time hi we're back at the shop I wanted to go over a couple things once I got back here I'm really happy with the rifle I'm going to keep on shooting it I'm not even going to talk to Rick about the problem that I had this round I looked at the primer and it's dented even farther than all the rounds that went off so whatever may have been wrong with this round it might not have gone off in anything I don't know but I'm gonna keep shooting I'll let you guys know if I have any more misfires but I may throw this in a k98 and see what it does but I'm thinking it's not going to work the other thing about the cases some of these are dented so bad that I don't think you would want to reload them for 8 millimeter I know you that would void your warranty for this rifle but a lot of us have more than one gun and I would be very careful and make sure you don't have any cracked cases once you straighten these out if you do you can always cut them down for mp44 MO or turn them in for scrap but again check these out before you reload them one thing that I discovered that was not very pleasant and I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I know some of you have type 2 FG 42s also and if you have a magazine or two or a couple for your f-type to fg42 you may be thinking wow I just doubled my magazine capacity for the type 1 2 whichever one I take out I have tons of magazines well no you don't fortunately they don't lock up and what I discovered was to get these to lock up in a type 2 SMG had built up the front catch and just that little tiny bit of material makes the magazine too long to fit in the magazine well so the good news if there is good news in this is that if you find unmodified zeebee magazines they should go right into your FG 42 type 1 and be fine I know all of these were hand fitted to make sure that they worked I don't know if that means that their magazine picky they could be but at least you won't have to do modifications so if you have a type 2 and you sell it I wouldn't throw your magazines away they could probably be dressed up on the front and taken back closer to what they were originally and then they should lock up but you know that's something to talk to Rick at SMG about I don't know if he would have time to modify your magazines but it's worth a shot as hard as those are to find another thing my son had a great idea on the finish getting hit by the cases it might be worth a shot of putting duct tape or black guerrilla tape here and just seeing if that would protect your finish I think it's a super idea and from a couple feet away I don't think anybody's going to even know it's there but in about one minute I took a brand new FG 42 and I don't think this finish can be dressed up to look like it's a brand new rifle again it may be but it's probably worth putting that on there and trying it out so if one of you guys sees this video and you haven't shot your rifle yet I would do that and just see you might even put two layers there just for a little bit extra cushion I mean I got a little bit of soot on the muzzle break other than that I really didn't notice anything really wearing that that would really make it look used and because of that you probably want to protect your finish as much as you can it may also keep the thing from from bouncing as far they really seem to to fly a good 20 feet away they're like mp44 is they really shoot the cases out there other than that I'm still really happy I hope this has been informative for you and yes we will be out more and we're going to shoot more but I wanted to have my fall shimmy your kid on and really make it look real I also want to do some comparison videos with other German weapons I think that's going to be really cool but because of my ammo supply I want to get that built up a little bit and really be able to take this thing out and give it a workout for you so thanks again and we'll see you next time
