good evening everybody and welcome to moore park college home of the raiders for the season opening matchup between moore park and ventura it's rivalry weekend i'm justin borces your play-by-play commentator joined by luke lamont this season welcome to the team luke great to have you with us for this season opening matchup the tale of the tape between these two teams two years ago ventura finished the season eight and three beating the raiders by 35 in a 55-20 loss moore park finished the season one and nine this is the opening game it's the last we've seen each other it was two years ago on this day and luke the tale of the tape it's a new season a lot of new faces who are we looking for in terms of both teams for these new starts for the home team moore park you're really looking for joe yanos first team all-state out in massachusetts he's hopefully gonna make a big impact for moorpark in the run game and then for ventura the rival quarterback jordan pashat 4000 yards 40 touchdowns in high school probably going to sling the rock today so those are the two on the offensive side of the ball defensively peyton cassius comes over from thousand oaks he had 11 a half 11 and a half sacks during his time there we'll look to see the impact he makes what are some other names you can think of defensively for both these squads opening the season i can think of some of the guys like amari thomas hopefully going to make a big impact off the edge for moore park this year had three and a half sacks last year in high school hopefully going to make a big impact trey thompson for the raiders the quarterback came out of oaks christian most likely to start tonight we cannot confirm but he is the most likely option we look to see you for kickoff in just a few minutes stay with us this season opening rivalry matchup between the raiders and the pirates opening game here last time we saw each other two years ago no football last season due to the coven 19 virus fans are back in the stands as we await kickoff here and luke we spoke about some of the standout stars but for the raiders they really had trouble defensively against this ventura team last year so what are they going to have to do to tighten it up today definitely going to have to stop the run they gave up three rushing touchdowns a lot in the last game they played really killed them gotta cut down the turnovers had two also 55 to 20 is not going to get it done for them so they're gonna have to cut down on the turnovers remember ventura of note will kick it off they deferred so they will receive the ball in the second half decent crowd here in these stands moore park will receive so they will start on offense we will see who is at quarterback for them as we await kick here again a little later start time here for this season opener the raiders finishing one and nine looking to improve that record from two years ago ventura finished ranked third in the state and is in the hunt to win it this year san mateo came in first once again they're taking their time awaiting kick here a clock issue we're being told so they are getting set to play after fixing the clock and here we go opening night on this saturday night college football here back at moore park raider stadium griffin stadium and the kick is away and we are underway returned at the goal line they're going to take it out and doesn't quite get to the 20 ventura celebrates on special teams a good tackle made and the raiders will start in their own territory gavin braxter on the tackle and so the raiders will start their opening drive of the year we will see who is at quarterback we spoke about trey johnson matt abajian also on the list as possible raiders coming out four wide receivers set one in motion they're bringing the blitz getting snap off the line in a sack immediately the first play of the game number seven ralph navarro in looked like a big miscue by a left guard just completely whiffed on the block just let him right in timing the snap count it'll be a loss on the play they mark the ball back at the 10. it's a loss of seven second and 17. it is trey johnson at quarterback who we spoke of a sophomore receiver in motion they're bringing the blitz again picked up well but into coverage a dangerous pass incomplete justin ogle intended receiver third and long great play by safety coming down on that force in the incompletion running that slant route covered well by the pirates third and 17 14 minutes to go no score spoke about johnson the sophomore 6-4 215 out of oaks christian ventura again finishing third in the coaches poll of the jc athletic bureau pull of california community colleges winning their bowl game an eight and three record san mateo finishing at the top spot 12 and one delay of game a 5-yard penalty will put the ball all the way inside the 5. third and 22 from the five exactly there moore park already behind the sticks it's a pass screen cop walkers out in front the stick sometime this raider offense two years ago 238 pass yards per game 112 rush but they allowed over 340 yards defensively so we'll see if they can clean that up this year coming in on at least a five-game losing streak we'll punt it away here comes the pressure good kick all the way back in midfield nearly muffed picked up and broken up field now missing tackles and north of the 50. marked out at the 45-yard line dangerous for ventura almost an early turnover but a great recovery by the returner first and ten from that spot pirates will take over at the 46. pass here comes the pressure rolling out of the pocket running staying on his feet to the 40. actually see vince valeat quarterback today instead of jordan per shot so vince on his first rush of the game for this opener it's a gain of five second and five 13 31 to go first quarter no score run up the middle great stop by the d line coming in there number 50 dj diaz freshman 6-1-260 at a camarillo high school great play by the d-line pinched him in nowhere to go could not get to where he wanted raiders definitely willing to bring some heat five in the box they rush them all here comes the blitz high pass and complete i think that's a great win for moorpark on the opening drive forcing a three and out so vince willia on fourth down they will leave the offense out there at midfield taking a gamble here good protection slant in the zone complete first down i mean that's got to be a momentum killer for moorpark you think you get them off the field and then they get a first down on fourth and medium now ventura is back in control brady sturdivant on the reception freshman 6-1 210 pounds out of carpenteria california back in motion they're going to go with the screen there's the pitch open field good tackle there at the 30. so they're plugging the gaps and playing physical luke but they're not exactly finishing their tackles i mean not finishing your tackles is gonna kill your team you know you gotta be able to tackle to stop the play and if you're not tackling well they're just gonna run the ball all over you and just get open in the open field second and seven three yard pickup they've only run the ball once make it twice counter to the edge gets the edge stays in bounds touchdown pirates chuck wick on the carry 30 plus yards and the pirates strike first 6-0 whitt continues to dominate moore park his third touchdown in the last two meetings of him scored two last in 2019 correction sorry extra point upcoming 11 42 to go tough snap got the hold it's through the uprights and the pirates open the scoring it's seven nothing marching down the field in three minutes so what does moorpark really need to do to respond we saw three and out on that first series i think you got to try to get some short passes going just to get momentum for your quarterback get them comfortable maybe try some play action or some run right up the gut and you just gotta set a physical tone against this ventura team size advantage to this point at least on the line goes to the raiders victor nuno defensively he's 225 offensive line 270 spencer davis william kuznega a freshman 6-1-250 so they can set the physical edge and we see the offensive staff huddling there on the sideline the kick is up it's fieldable up the middle they go got a block cut to the edge and past the 20. perfect chance for moore park to respond after having at least 10 more yards of field position based off where they started last time opening game we've seen multiple quarterbacks in previous seasons for the raiders troy smith another man named trey johnson unrelated to this particular quarterback four wide receivers set three near side to run up the gut as you said luke he breaks it to the outside and he's got space needs amanda beat gets the edge inside the 25 the biggest run of the day by the raiders on the carry number 21 joe janos the running back freshman 5 11 190 pounds joe yano's coming over from revere massachusetts was a first-team all-state running back out back east like we said in pregame he's going to need to have a big day for moore park well that was a big run there 70 plus yards up stick with ventura well that big run certainly helped out early in the drive their offensive line creating the holes they got to keep establishing the wrong game when they get the ball back that the field of lineman quarterback draw up the middle did he get enough we'll see where they mark him they will move the chains it is first down ventura going no huddle keeping moorpark on their toes and it pays off there on the fourth and short it doesn't look like moore park was ready for it four wide receivers in the set it's a draw up the middle big hole and a flag on the play back at the inside to the 10. running back was supposed to pick up on a linebacker as he did but just overpowered them and forced him out of the pocket and then tracked him down for the not quite enough for the first down fourth and three a pickup of 11. they're going for it inside the 20. up by four seven three your score six minutes and nine seconds it was supposed to be an option the quarterback keeps it gets popped at the line i don't think he got there it'll be a turnover on downs and coach stewart is oh there's a flag late i wonder who it's on if it's unsportsmanlike conduct on the d it's an automatic first down we'll see it'll be a huge blow to moorpark after making a great play in the on the option play and stuff in the quarterback flag at the nine well the raiders are celebrating as if it will not come back to hurt them they pick up the laundry now [Music] so offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties they cancel each other out the play stands is called it is a turnover on downs for the pirates and the raiders will take over at the 10-yard line big momentum shift from moorpark you got a chance to go down the field and take the lead before the end of the first quarter here running back ever since the fumble ventura's been in complete control of this game starting off with a touchdown now forcing a third long for moore park third and 15 425 and ticking moore park willing assessed on the kickoff as we get set to get more park back on offense but luke what do what does moorpark have to do to climb out of this early hole it's 21-3 with 338 to go in the corridor the biggest thing moore park can't do is panic panic is just going to make this worse for them and they're going to continue on this spiral they need to get physical up in the front seven get the run game going hit some short passes maybe all they need is momentum they just gotta pick it off one by one and cleaning up the turnovers will play a large part in that again the 15-yard penalty assessed on the kickoff back to the turnovers moore park already in this first quarter matched the amount they had in the last meeting between these two with two not even out of the quarter yet so it will definitely be something that the head coach and this staff will talk about at halftime and the kick is away fielded at the 15. taking up field to the 39-yard line first and ten from that spot the raiders looking to get back on the board an opening possession field goal the only scoring of the game for them great field position here gotta get points helped by the penalty that personal foul on so they really got to clean up these penalties they really got to clean up the turnovers and they just got to get back to their game plan the quarterback's responsibility to check the play clock it is in each end zone we see it on the scoreboard to our right and behind the goal post to our left six to go four got a move and just gets it away blitz complete over the middle to the 35 did the ball come out or did they mark him down third and 14 a gain of six minute 30 left to go in the corner the snap they're bringing the blitz picked up well way overthrown and incomplete fourth down the raiders will punt it again clear miscommunication between quarterback and receiver there johnson or yeah johnson thought he was going deep but the receiver cut it short and just no chance for him to make a play there and interesting with the play clock even after the delay of game penalty the clock is still getting down under five seconds every time before there's we play between the play collars that you don't need to take when you're up 18 points 21-3 your score a minute tend to go in the quarter i only guessed why you picked it up because you saw the flag and assumed it was on moor park so whatever happened could it just be they would either have to re-kick or officials are talking about it but i'd say that's a risk when you're in the lead and in control that you don't want to make 21-3 the score ventura will get the ball on offense to start the second half both penalties on the return team 10 yards from the end of the run first down so ventura will be inside their own 20. big opportunity for the raider defense to make a stop here and possibly get the ball back with a couple seconds left to try to at least gain something going into the half as a positive well we got a whole nother quarter to go my bad first quarter only minute 10 to go another 12 on the docket before half a long uphill climb for the raiders 18 point margin the ball at the 10. it's a pass to open screen good open field tackling by the raiders nice and physical maybe a gain of one kevin tate on the reception second nine under 10 on the play clock they give to the back on the edge he makes a cut stays on his feet and bounds to the 30 and passed first down but there is a penalty good job by the moore park defense to force him back inside but just a great great play by kelly there to stay in bounds and cut it up repeat second down 10 yard penalty on a holding call second and eight see if they run a play before the end of the quarter they do it's a pass it's a little out route cutting back up field to the 20. it'll be close but probably not enough and that will take us to the end of the quarter the raiders down by 18 18-21-3 score as we head to the second and as we do we would like to read the screen well and came down but they crashed outside too hard great vision to cut it back in an 80-yard reception and run 4-6 they're both sideline warning for the pirates their first of the evening extra point on the way it's 27-3 as it stands now up and good 28-3 with 14 47 to go in the half moore park really needing to get points on the board in a quickly quickly before this game gets out of hand in this next offensive drive for the raiders they need to establish something whether it's passing short medium deep running in or outside just any sort of momentum on the offense that they haven't had since the big run from janos early in the game they need to find something [Music] raiders looking to get possibly a strong kickoff return here set up with good field position had the ball past the 30 the last three times so hopefully then we'll do it again kick is away returnable at the 10. cutting it outside upfield getting a block cutting it back to the 38. [Music] there's that kick return more park needed i'd say for sure one positive you can take away from this team so far is their kick kick return team has been more than good the offense trying to establish some major rhythm here unable to find an identity 14 38 to go receiver in motion the blitz it's a screen no blockers it's incomplete second down jaden shakir looked a little late for the ball wasn't really ready for it in the ball a little over his head just not a good play there unaware that the quarterback was going towards him turned his head late on this opening night for raider football here at griffin stadium pass play action it's a screen missed a block and it is maybe a one-yard pickup spencer davis was trying to block the edge and couldn't get his paws in there third and seven a pick up a three 11 on the play talking it over five got to snap it and does johnson looking deep over the middle incomplete underthrown andrew was the receiver intended over the middle the ventura defender undercut the route made a good play on the ball completion from baltimore came down on that great play vermont for ventura raiders will punt kick is away it's a big one and down we'll see where they mark it at the 30. so ventura will take over up by nearly four scores 28-3 as it stands 13-37 here in the half three and out for moore park obviously not what they wanted down 25 and i mean maybe for them instead of starting with the offense it starts with the defense to change the momentum for him well a big a big 80 yard catch and run on the screen the last possession and some missed tackles have been the issue for the raiders at their second level receiver in motion it's a slant pass was tipped incomplete a great swim move on the on the bottom towards the moor park sideline by amari thomas instant pressure on the quarterback forcing the incompletion receiver in motion here comes the screen again gets a block cuts up field first down and more to the 45. short of the 45 to the 42 it is still first down they moved the chains receiver in motion they bring the blitz here comes the linebacker no evades over the middle complete the side step to the 25. a 50-plus yard reception and in the red zone are the pirates great look to the backside to find the post for a wide open moor park only had cashton haffer in the area luckily for them he was able to bring him down screen looking for a block raiders all over it intended receiver ashton arnold picks up one second and nine 1206 to go looking deep sideline way too far incomplete out of bounds and maybe more park can get off the field with the field goal try if they hold the third down here third and nine from the 25 big third down they've let up a couple fourth and shorts for moore park you're really looking to not let up anything here third and nine from the 23. looking sideline complete and it'll be close we'll see where they spot him he may just have enough for the sticks we'll see well they mark him two yards short fourth and two ventura will go for it up by 25 to run did he get enough i'm not sure see where they spot him they are giving him the first down and moving the sticks this time per shot in the game now not wailia pashat coming in listed as the backup qb run touchdown easy in the end zone miles the running back 511 freshman 202 pounds with the score moore park again on the line they're giving out the outside the running backs are getting to the second level with ease just way too much open space from the run 34-3 extra point on the way kick is good 10 55 in the half it is a 35-3 lead as we get set for this kickoff the raiders needing a touchdown really to stay within shouting distance i mean you got to get something here you know you're down 32 point or yeah 32 points right now and you haven't had a spark of anything since your first field goal this is maybe totally to say but almost a do or die moment for the raiders almost four down territory kick is away returned at the five up field breaking out nowhere to go can't even get to the 20. stopped at the 14-yard line and tara finally gets back on top of these kicker turns it was reminiscent of the one to open the game where moorpark got caught deep inside their own territory ball at the 14 10 47 to go for trey johnson in this offense up the middle trying to get through the tackles tight space not much there maybe two more part going back to janos but nowhere to run ventura sent the house on that play great run stuff a 20-plus yard run to open the game the biggest of the day for the raiders but nothing since 10 20. second nine a pickup of one under center now a different look play action by johnson here comes the blitz way long incompletes the intended receiver oselus johnson jr a freshman 6'5 185 out of el camino high and trey johnson has received a right running them wide open on the post in the middle of the field but just a little bit of pressure couldn't get the ball where he needed to to make the play and moore park facing another third and long a little bit of confusion in the personnel gotta get the receivers lined up it's another pass from johnson it's a screen this time trying to get the block tripped up stays on his feet moving down the sideline and to the 48 yard line first down the biggest pass play of the day for the raiders joe janos the running we almost back a big miss taco that let him get into open space and it seems that he can really make people miss playmaker at the running back spot whistles blow flag on the play uh false start on ourselves johnson jr second and 15. and that's obviously not what you want to see after you finally break off a big play for the first time since you opened up the game more parks are getting the momentum now switch might have been what they needed the bubble screen that johnson missed twice early in the game of shakir this time jungman takes it first play hits it right on the money receiver cuts it up unsport's been lying on the offense it will move the ball back i would think luke that the motivation comes from working on things for next week i think they've said to themselves with a 46 point deficit here in the third that this game is well out of reach and it's about putting guys in that that you can work towards for the future for the rest of this season for the for next year as well i mean there's a lot of freshmen on the roster could turn sophomores it's a great point you got to try to get guys experience in these kind of situations and you'll see who wants to be out there bringing blitz breaking through tackles the offensive line creates a hole to the 30 [Music] three flag out it's gonna be a hold here number seven 10-yard penalty from the spot they moved the ball back to the 46-yard line correction the 47. up the middle come and through to the 45 on a solid run kelly on the carry second and nine and way wide intended target number 13 terrell vaughn there's some more park defense responding to the turnover from the offense third and long near midfield again they seem to give up on third and long something that sets up a fourth and short and ventura's capitalized almost every time it's key for moore park to not let up anything here they're willing to go for it on fourth down and with this margin they may even be more willing to do so here comes the blitz protected will almost it is end up caught and inside the 20 dangerous pass but completed michael lopez inches away from getting an interception that could have been a huge boost for moorpark just to get some momentum going or just some energy on the team instead turns around on again it's kind of the story of tonight is just moorpark things are so close and just not going their way 49.3 it's a screen it's blockers up front and a gain of four or five more park again had him in the backfield slips a couple tackles i think that's something they're probably gonna have to work on is making sure you wrap up and let your teammates get to you instead of trying to make a solo tackle maybe that's what they need to do just rally to the ball running it inside the red zone through the know you'd expect maybe putting an extra safety or linebacker in the box to help prevent that it's just it's wide open gaps and he's untouched for the first level and you're not gonna be able to stop anyone running like that up and through 56-3 with 9 22 remaining i think at this point in the game it kind of show you're going to you're going to see how much more park has fight in them you know how much pride because right now nobody wants to be down by this right but you don't want to get the margin at this rate i know at least make it more respectable than it is right now i mean for more park you got to try at this point maybe try some new things new players like as they have been with jungman in the backfield and artero also they were given a spark but then the turnover you got to get some energy moving into next week so the raiders will come back on offense here kickoff upcoming a 56-3 score 9 22 to go in the third kickoff complete out to the 25 and to the 26 level there man what a hit and some chippiness on the sideline got to be careful there there it is the flag lake possible unsportsmanlike conduct we'll see on who who it's on here more park another return out to the 30. so a positive you can come out of this game with is your kick return team i mean they're fighting hard every single time they're getting decent field positions for you it's just after that is what you ventura takes over again trey johnson back in the game first play pressured again like he's done so far all day lets it go a little bit not feet aren't set he's not settled down tries to go up the up now stepping back there's the pick stepping through for the interception number 24 daniel pierce flags late more chippiness mean pierce who on one of the long runs from kelly stopped his feet allowed his teammates to get there in time to make a tackle makes another big play here even though it's late in the game interception it's going to just at least boost the morale of the team and it's defense for this raiders team the ball under throne following pressure on the blitz park finally starts to at least somewhat close the turnover differential here and it's going to be a big positive from their defense from this game is they got some decent pressure on the quarterback and forced a bad pass so ball mark now at the 28 yard line 8 23 to go in the third screen low throw incomplete ball hit the ground intended target jaquan martin sophomore 510 at a kennedy high school in granada hills i mean still here halfway through the third quarter johnson still just doesn't seem settled in you know he's throwing it i mean he's getting the ball out he knows i think at this time he doesn't have all day to throw but i think it's letting him he's letting it get in his head too much and just forcing some bad passes empty set here correction the quarterback moves back in the shotgun he was just talking to his receivers pass complete no is it juggled and picked uh we'll see who's got it and complete they rule [Music] no control for either player incomplete third and ten johnson makes a good pass obviously talked his receivers about it went out there delivers it right on the money just receiver can't haul it in and dangerous for more pockets that's almost picked 56 three-year score 807 in the third third and 10. snap they're coming with pressure trying for the screen nearly mean what do you have to lose it's 56 to you want to get the first down get some momentum yes you completed a pass but the same time you don't have the ball anymore so i think you're right with that what do you have to lose at this point why not take a shot close route or a slant over the middle instead of the stick route low snap handle break to the outside trying to get to the edge and chop down when ventura made a quarterback change pasha now on the bench as they have zachary george is in the game 6 50 to go time ticking away third quarter 56-3 ventura in the lead gain of one on the play run up the middle tackle shoestrings there hanzo and at quarterback now zachary george's 6-2 210 sophomore out of fort lauderdale florida he's come in now here comes the blitz they get no they do not quite get him yet they stay home keep contained luckily there for more park the missed tackles doesn't cost them big there amari thomas came through originally got there lost him tracked him back down to make the sack oh fourth down they're going for it to pass here comes the blitz gets hit as he throws and completes it to the 11. tough tid takes the hit completes the pass and more apart got pressure again like you're right tough sticking in there delivering a great pass over the middle on the post route just got in between the two high safeties for more park first down move the chains 455 to go it's a run breaking it up the middle missing tackles and through to the fourth ventura still i mean we four minutes still left in the third and they're up 53 and they're just still driving even with some third stringers in it looks like now second three gain of seven 425 to go they've remained in the shotgun for the majority of this game up the middle hurtling through powering his way into the end zone for a touchdown pirates i am legend with that run man i mean yet again they put kelly in towards the goal line and he just powers his way right up the middle they've done it all day they knew they could score off of it so they had the backup running back in most of the drive but when you get towards the end zone put in kelly let him pick up the easy touchdown this is just point game it'll be 60 with the extra point on the way kick is up no good it's not on the 60-point lead 59 is the edge with 408 to go in the third so 59 point game we'll see what the raiders decide to do how many backups come in still a whole nother quarter and some change to play here see if they can keep some momentum on the kick return i do wonder we are under coven 19 protocols i do wonder if the staffs decide that they wish to get end the game early if that is allowable it's not that they will do it obviously they could play the entire game but if it is something where both sidelines come to an agreement if they choose to end it early i don't know up the middle they go close to the 35 flag two flags they saw it near the far side there was some extra stuff going on and see this is where it comes in with what you're saying with the protocols and possibly ending it early things are only going to get chippier from here with the score being what it is rivalry game people are going to start talking it's going to happen it's football but then i don't think as you said you know they're not saying they would but i don't think the players would want to do that i think right they'd want to play the whole game i don't know if they have that sense of pride as a player you know you want to be out there well and these kids you know they want to make it to the next level they're they're in a position from a junior college standpoint what they call juco transfers when you enter the division one level um to be recruited by schools they hope to be recruited by the likes of usc oregon texas the big name blue bloods we've seen um so we'll see if the you know it's about that chase as much as it as it is about winning too yeah and i think as a coaches how are you going to come back from something if you do that necessarily the next week i mean i don't think even the coaching staff would want to do that and again we're not even aware of whether or not it's allowable they may be required of course to play the entire i would assume ratio is required but again we're in times where you just don't know right with code you're and i mean these kids like you're saying with d1 transfers the way you're going to get recruited is by getting plays in on the field and film and different highlights and sometimes i mean you could pick that up in the end of a game but some scouts might not care if you show that you got the talent that's an opportunity for you so right now the teams are coming together on each of their sidelines head coach probably giving them a speech that is yes that is head coach mike stewart i mean there's a reason the whole team is over there it would be because the head coach is giving them a speech yeah both the the offensive personnel and the defensive personnel have their own staffs that they normally report to it appears that both head coaches are having a conversation with the officials after the unsportsman like fouls i think the officials are just tired of it yeah i don't really want to nip this in the butt and you also got to think about safety of certain players right someone's walking off the field and you got someone who's upset over the score or just for whatever reason they're getting in and they just want to decide to do something that's not very smart and go and hit them or something you got to think about safety and i mean as a head coach if i were a head coach i wouldn't want my team getting all these unsportsmanlike you know you want to build your team up to be an accountable team four minutes to go in the third quarter run up the middle it's a big gain out into the secondary to the 49-yard line davis with the carry there [Music] and trey johnson's still in the game at quarterback johnson remains tonight about the booming kicks we've seen it's been the highlight of the game for the raiders and i'd say a special team unit right there just prove it again they've been the bright spot i mean count as a sack calderon i mean we saw jungman earlier try to make something happen out of the fumbled snaps and their calderon decides to just go down maybe just didn't want to risk a turnover in this territory knowing they have a good chance here to maybe get some points on them at that point the defensive line was swarming so not much he could do there himself for the team smart decision loss of six second and 16. back at the 28-yard line rolls out almost picked incomplete almost picked by number two for ventura making more plays out there i mean we called his name earlier drexel hill pennsylvania i mean someone out of state and he made a great jump on the ball there i mean read the quarterback's eyes saw the rollout saw the receiver sitting there flies up with me minute forty we are closing in on the end of this game way high incomplete had the open target not much pressure there just overthrew the receiver and fourth and long struggles continue from our park 62-5 a 57 plain returns covering returns getting the punts off i mean they're gonna run a play up the middle breaking tackles to the edge getting outside now to the 40 up the field but out of bounds do they stop the
