please [Music] [Applause] i wanna i please please [Music] so may 26 i remember the day vividly it was the day after memorial day i got a call from my boss come see me and literally it was about three o'clock in the afternoon they broke down the information you know hey we're gonna have to let you go i did not think i was going to be without a job as long as i was i was applying for positions going on interviews but nothing nothing came about although my situation didn't look ideal as to where i wanted to be in my lifetime i was still trusting in him literally 11 months and it was 11 months almost to the day um because it was two weeks prior to the 11 month mark i got this position that i'm in it may have taken longer than i wanted to but god had it all laid out he knows our plans and he takes care of us so you just got to be able to trust him [Music] amen would you pray with me father how we love you and how we honor you on today we thank you for the kind of faith that we can count on father we thank you and we pray right now that you allow us to take this everyday faith with us in our everyday lives thank you for what you're going to do on today i pray selfishly that you sit me down so that you may stand up so that somebody may not leave they may not leave their their screen they may not leave this place the same way that they came in your name we pray amen amen concord family how are you [Music] we are so excited i am so excited to be worshiping with you today we are continuing our series everyday faith in james chapter 2 james chapter 2. as you turn as you find your bibles wherever you are in your house i want to thank our pastor pastor brian carter who is the best pastor this side of heaven thank him for how he leads us yes how he leads us day in and day out and thank him for this opportunity as well on last week pastor trump started us in everyday faith in james chapter one and i have the privilege of walking us through the second half of james chapter two i'm pastor michael green teaching evangelism and leadership pastor here at concord and it is my honor to serve you in this way on today all right let's go there james chapter 2 verse 14. it reads this way what good is it my brothers and sisters if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds can such faith save them suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food if one of you says to them go in peace keep warm and well fed but does nothing about their physical needs what good is it in the same way faith by itself if it is not accompanied by action is dead but someone will say you have faith i have these show me your faith without deeds and i will show you my faith by my deeds you believe that there is one god good even the demons believe that and shudder you foolish person do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless was not our father abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son isaac on the altar you see that his faith and his actions were working together and his faith was made complete by what he did and the scripture was fulfilled that says abraham believed god and it was credit to him as righteousness and he was called god's friend you see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone in the same way was not even rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction as the body without the spirit is dead so faith without deeds is dead amen friends the year was 1991 and native tongue collection their artists black sheep debuted their number one album and the title of the song was the choice is yours this black sheep this group comprised of drace and and master long they wanted to introduce a new version of hip-hop they added instruments and they they added new rhythms they even added intellectual lyrics and sometimes humorous because they wanted to give options maybe you don't know the song i'll snip it a little bit of it for you it says you can get with this or you can get with that you can get with this or you can get with that oh i think you've heard it before you can get with this or you can get with that you can get with this because this is where it's at they were saying you can choose this this new form of hip-hop that we're presenting you or you can stay with that the traditional hip-hop that was on the scene and in our text today james offers us the same thing he says the choice is yours he writes this letter to this new christian church and says you can give with this the faith that everybody's been talking about or you can get with that the faith that pleases god james in this letter to this new christian church the theme of his writing is you have to have faith there are so other other many authors writing at this time and he's not contradicting what they're writing he's saying you church you people who are being persecuted and are being scattered you've got to pack up and take everything with you but don't you forget to take the kind of faith that pleases god and so he writes this letter and in james chapter 2 he starts with favoritism and tales of the dangers of favoritism of partiality so then he goes on in verse 14 to say because if you favor one type of faith over another you are just as wrong as the people who favor and can easily fall into sin so james presents us this choice this or that the faith they talk about the faith that they walk about and he says the choice is yours three points and i promise you i'll take my seat he says this kind of everyday faith causes action second it causes life more abundantly and last but not least it causes witnesses to appear so right there in verse 14 he says what good is it my brothers and sisters if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds can such faith save them suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food if one of you says to them go in peace keep warm and well fed but does nothing about their physical needs what good is it without action faith is no good without action there is no perseverance without perseverance faith is not complete without action the needy remain needy without action the people who need faith continue to lack it without action people who are hopeless remain hopeless james is petitioning us beseeching us if you will that we ought to put action to our faith verse 16 there says go in peace keep warm and well-fed the actual interpretation says go i wish you well if it's translated in our terms go i wish you well and it's a sincere salutation or it's a sincere goodbye when you have put something in someone's hand you see that there james is suggesting when you walk by somebody who is cold and you don't give them a jacket when you walk by somebody who is hungry and you don't give them food to eat you are saying go i wish you food and i wish you weren't but i'm not giving it to you actually what you're saying to them is by and i hope the door doesn't hit you where the good lord splits you you you know how we send emails at work when we upset with somebody and we ended with let me know if you have any other questions good day to you it's not a sincere salutation and so james is saying when we operate in faith or say we're operating in faith but there is no action we are sarcastic and we are wishing harm instead of wishing somebody will came by to tell you faith and works everyday faith should cause action friends some of us are so committed to faith we stand on it we talk about it we preach about it we recite the scriptures we tell other people the scriptures we yell them the scriptures we tell them what is wrong what ain't wrong tradition religion and we are so consumed with faith we're so heavily focused we're no earthly good then there are others of us who are so consumed with working with doing with moving with serving with trying with accepting stuff with committing ourselves because we just want to work and we feel like that's the way to go and then if we keep working we don't have to worry about faith because that'll just work itself out james says it's not this and that there has to be another choice there has to be a northern choice because faith alone and works alone is not how we please our lord jesus christ i love how he says he says faith and deeds faith and works friends if you want to know if you have real faith i say check your faith by your works the the duchess of whispering r b princess of the royal jackson family janet jackson has a song what have you done for him lately and and i used the duchess's words and whisper to you what have you done for the lord lately if if the lord would ask his assistant in heaven to get an excel document and in column a put everything you say everything you recite everything you believe everything you preach to other people all the devotions you text other people and then in column b he lined up your actions oh i came by to tell you column b would be much more in need of typing than colin maywood i came to ask you again what have you done for the lord lately not only does faith cause action but james tells us here that faith alone faith without works is dead it's it's useless he says in 17 in the same way faith by itself it's not a comp if it's not a company about action it's dead if you have faith i'll say i have deeds show me your faith without deeds and i will show you my faith by my deeds he goes on in verse 19 to say you believe that there is one god good even the demons believe that and shudder verse 20 you foolish person do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless but i like when he goes to verse 26 and says as the body without the spirit is dead so faith without deeds is dead friends i came by to tell you without faith without action your faith is dead is useless god breathed the breath of life into adam and every man and woman born after adam and eve the indicator that they are alive is breath in their body he is saying the moment that breath leaves the body they are dead and the moment that action is not accompanied with your faith it is dead it is useless you ought to call the hearse and start picking out songs because it is useless he says here it it it's funny that you would say oh listen god it's god i serve god i love god even the demons do that good for you it's great if you wear shirts that say jesus is the homie but who cares it's okay if you wear shirts and say god is is dope but who cares i don't care if some four and and three is is tatted down your side right here it's okay if philippians 4 and 13 is it's on your arm i really wanted to cross my chest here but but it doesn't matter if when people come in your house and they sit down in your powder room to relieve themself and you've got psalm 23 on the wall so they can recite it while they use the restroom who cares if if your cupboards in your kitchen have scriptures written underneath so when you turn your light on at night it just comes up and the scripture lights up who cares if you display faith but you don't act it out the demons have enough sense to know the scriptures the demons have enough sense to to shutter and acknowledge when the lord is in the room and that he is real and that god sits on the throne [Music] but their faith doesn't cause them to act on behalf of god he says that's the difference faith without action is is dead it's it's a dead faith james even suggests it might be a demonic faith listen here here in this passage people theologians and commentaries argue that that james and paul contradict themselves and even the writer of hebrew the writer of hebrew says now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen and he is suggesting that you see that thing and it'll come to be in faith but you don't have to really do anything about it but believe paul writes to the letter in rome into the the the church at philippi and even the church at ephesus and galatia that these works is not what saves you works can't get you into heaven it's paul wrong he is absolutely not he's right there is nothing you can do that can allow the lord jesus to save you it's your faith that believes he already saved you james does not contradict paul or the writer of hebrew james as he says yes and and if god has saved you and brought you out of the muck in the mire turn your black stained soul dipped it in red blood and you came out as white as snow you ought to show it in the way you act you out to love the unlovable you ought to befriend the people who are friendless you ought to feed those who are without food you you ought to clothe those who are without clothes you you ought to go and see about the people who are lonely he says your actions should show that you've been saved by a savior and so what what what does everyday faith look like it causes life more abundantly john 10 10 says that the enemy comes to steal kill and destroy i would suggest that even demons acknowledge the lord when we just stand on faith along and we pride ourselves that we believe and we showcase our faith we are in danger of letting the enemy seep in the latter part of john 10 and 10 says but i have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly what does it mean when we put action to our faith we give life to the lifeless we become the hands and the feet of jesus and say you need clothes i got you you need food i got you you need a hug i got you you need saving i got you you need warmth i got you whatever it is that you need you can't provide for yourself i know a man from galilee and i can help fulfill the need you know what the the parallel is the the commonality about people in need i don't care what the needy is if they're in need of food if they're in need of clothing if they're in need of love if they're in need of saving if they're in need of wisdom if they're in need of rescuing you know what the commonality is for people who are in need they all need more than words they need action if i am hungry and all of you are coming to me is restrictions that you know and can recite and probably interpret them wrong you can do nothing for me if i am cold and you you gonna quote the scriptures you learned in sunday school to me but you're not gonna make sure i have a jacket to warm me up you are doing nothing for me the thing is i need more than words when i'm in need when i walk this center out years ago because i needed saving i didn't need somebody to look at me and just quote scriptures i needed a hug and them to walk me through what it meant to be born again for jesus christ listen i i told you i wouldn't be before you alone as we put action to our faith we extend life to others because we extend to them jesus here at concord we we believe we're pushing people towards their next steps to christ that's what god has called us to do the pastor trip started on last week he said it's about hearing the word of god and that's what we do that's what we're doing today you you're watching in your living room your your game room wherever you are in your bedroom you're watching or you're worshiping and we're hearing the word that's worship we believe we push people to christ by three ways that's worship we're worshiping together but then how do we embrace the word we get involved in a bible study we dissect the word we get involved in a grow group we go to a class we dissect and embrace the word and learn the word once we've heard it once we've embraced it then next is we give and serve we serve and give because the word has now become applicable to our lives it started with hearing then it started with learning and embracing and then it started it left with actions so what do we do here we worship first then we grow and then we serve so we're not just standing on faith alone but we're putting action to the faith that we have amen somebody listen last but not least everyday faith faith and work causes witnesses to appear let me prove it to you verse 21 says was not our father abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son isaac on the altar you see that his faith and his actions were working together and his faith was made complete by what he did and the scripture was fulfilled that says abraham believed god and it was credited to him as righteousness he was called god's friend you see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone in the same way was not even you ought to recognize that you're given life he said but if you don't believe me i faith and work causes witnesses to appear the first witness he presents is abraham abraham the the famous patriarch abraham the the father of many nations abraham he's james is talking to this jewish christian audience and they would acknowledge that abraham is the father of the faith and so when he brought up abraham they immediately would get quiet and listen because they they were here because of abraham they believed what they believed because abraham believed and they knew the story so well that abraham and his wife sarah wait late in life for god to fulfill his promise of giving them a son and having them to be descendants and then when he would give abraham his son isaac abraham would have to sacrifice him on the altar he went up to mount moriah and told his servant we're going up but we'll be back to worship you catch that on the way home and he got up to the altar and began to sacrifice isaac and thank god god provided a ram in the bush but he said abraham's faith was credited with righteousness uh that word credit mean the same thing today i mean then it put something in he took he he went on his account at bank of faith and he put righteousness in his credit accounts because he had shown not only do i believe you god but i'm gonna act on it i know that i'm old and i didn't deserve and couldn't don't know how biologically you gave us isaac but if you told me to give away the only thing i think is gonna be the descendant i'm going to do it because i believe that's the kind of faith god is causing us to have calling us to have this kind of faith that we ought to have that whatever god says we run and do it with no questions asked but i know you you're skeptical you're cynical i know you because you're me and i know you're saying pencil green that's great but abraham is like i mean like that's he's an extra credit student nobody i don't have that kind of faith i'm not waiting hundreds of years i'm sure not gonna sacrifice my son that don't use abraham that's not a good one and i love that james doesn't leave us there but james says if you don't want to use the witness of the famous patriarch i got a famous prostitute and so then he calls on rahab rahab the famous prostitute i don't know about you but if you read something about s michael green years later i just hope they don't recognize me and put me in written form as the famous prostitute but anyway rahab is the famous prostitute and he says listen rahab was not a believer she was not an israelite she was nowhere near a jew but because the spies came and told her listen we represent the god of abraham isaac and jacob and we've been called to take jericho down and we need a place to hide i wish we wasn't doing family worship and i would tell you why they found rahab i can't help myself it's one because she was used to working at night the spies was buying at night the other one was what was because she knew what men were looking for when they were working at night and so rahab was the prime candidate to help the spies and because she believed you can call her the famous prostitute all you want but she's the great grandmama of king david and she's the ancestors of jesus christ our lord why because she put action to her faith everyday faith ought to cause witnesses to appear you don't believe me let me poll you real quick anybody ever heard of the passage in psalm 23 and 1 the lord is my shepherd i shall not want oh i got a couple of witnesses i proved it to you but but beyond did you hear about it has anybody ever been lost like a sheep that needed finding and the good shepherds came up under you and undergirded and restored your back so that you can lie down in green pastures and did you live to tell somebody i don't know how i got where i was but i know i got a good shepherd who leads me and guides me i told you witnesses appear anybody ever heard the passage in psalm 46 and one god is our and strength a very present help in the time of trouble though we should not fear you heard it right have you ever had to go to god cause you were in trouble let me tell you the worst kind of trouble maybe you haven't been in trouble trouble i got myself into and i had to go and say god if you rescue me i promise i won't get here again oh and then when i came out of that and i found somebody else in trouble i could say listen i know of god who is your very present help in the time of trouble you can go to him the righteous run in there and they are safe at his name maybe maybe maybe you you that's not that's not good enough for you psalm 107 and 3 says i am the lord who healeth thee i don't know about you but the last 15 to 18 months i have seen so much sickness and so much death and so much depression and so much peril and i needed to go to god because i needed him to heal some people on my behalf and there were some times when i said god you said you would heal because i heard it and i believe it and then even the times when he didn't heal him on this side i had to be reminded but he healed them on the other side well there's no more crying and no more tears but then there are some people who i know today who can look back and say thank you for praying because the lord god healed me do i have a witness in the room today that he is a healer everyday faith causes action everyday faith faith and work causes life more abundantly everyday faith causes witnesses to appear so listen there they were drace and master long they were enjoying the success of their debut album and their number one single you can get with this or you can get with that almost 30 years later they're being interviewed and they're in the interview they're saying how did you come up with the concept of the choices yours you can get with this so you can get with that andrei says listen we really really wanted to offer something different we really really wanted to be competitive he said but if i'd be honest with you we weren't even competing with everybody we were competing with each other not only were we competing with each other we weren't really that original because if you listen to our song you can get with this you can get with that it's a sampling of four other songs he said it's a combination so if we had the opportunity to go back we probably wouldn't name it you can get with this or you can get with that we probably would name it the choices yours you can get with this and that friends i came by to tell you james and black sheep must have had a conversation because james is telling us the same thing he's saying paul said uh you can't be saved without works he was right the writer of hebrew said faith is the substance of things hoped for he was right i came by to tell you is this and that if you have been saved by grace through faith you got it but you are not truly saved by grace through faith until you have evidence until you can demonstrate that god has been good to you until you can demonstrate that i will love the unlovable i will serve those who need to be served because he has saved me [Applause] i'll now act on it and i'll now show people that i serve a great god i will allow my faith to be evident i will allow my faith to have action occur in my life i will let my faith allow me to be the hands and feet of jesus then last but not least i'll allow my faith to have me be a witness that he'll do exactly what he said that i can count on him like never before father how we love you and how we honor you we thank you so much for your goodness and for your grace thank you for the kind of faith that should cause us to act father thank you for opportunities to demonstrate our faith and share it with the world help us to do so willingly at every opportunity in your name we pray amen friends this week this week i i want to call you to action this week this week find somebody to help who can't help you back find somebody to serve who can't serve you back see it's easy for me to go and win this line and say i'm gonna pay for the person behind me because they got money because they in line but i'm saying go and buy some food for somebody who can't buy food for themselves go and close somebody who can't clothe themself mourn or help somebody who can't do it by themselves do something this week for somebody who can't repay you listen friends maybe you're here today and you say you know what i do believe but you have never had an opportunity to accept jesus as your savior today is the best day to do that i don't care if you're here i don't care if you're watching what what what platform you're watching on you can click accept christ you can accept christ we baptized 80 people and because we hadn't we haven't been meeting there are some people have been waiting a year to be baptized they have professed their faith in jesus they wanted to be baptized but it's been a year since they made that decision now yesterday we got to minister with them and their families and baptize 80 people check this clip out there's joy in heaven over one person that chooses to give their life to tribes so we're thankful to so many of you today that have chosen to say yes to jesus christ we're excited your family and friends are here with you it's a big big day we want to know how proud we are how excited we are today represents a new beginning with you in jesus christ so again congratulations come on give god grace [Applause] these are tears of joy are waiting well the reasons why you should give is one so that the ministries of this church can be supported and go on not only the ministries of this church but the mission of this church and how we reach out
