right into it alright starting with number one when does my study permit expire well using my study permit as a guide you can look here to find out when this document will expire as you can see here on this date you have to stop studying and leave Canada you'll also notice that the expiry date is usually the length of your study program Plus 90 days the reason for the extra 90 days is to give you more time to prepare to leave Canada or to extend your stay here number two who needs to extend their study permit a student may need to extend their study permit for many reasons some students may need more time to finish their program than they have left on their study permit sometimes a student's passport May expire before their program expires so if this is the case they will need to renew their passport and then apply for an extension another example is some students may want to further their education by studying another program or transferring to another school but in general a study permit extension is for students who need to stay in Canada longer than their study permit allows number three when should I apply for an extension alright guys take note your study permit will expire on the date printed on the permit or 90 days after the day you finish your studies whichever comes first if you expect to finish your studies after your study permit expires then you need to apply for an extension if this happens you must apply to extend your study permit at least 30 days before the expiry date number four what is the process of applying for a study permit extension in Canada well to extend your study permit you usually have to fill out an application online with that you'll need a scanner or camera to scan your documents any debit or credit card to pay the fees moreover you need to prepare the following documents number one proof of acceptance from a DLI such as a letter of acceptance photocopies of transcripts or a letter from the registrar confirming your acceptance and registration as a student number two proof of identity such as passport birth certificate marriage certificate if applicable and current immigration documents number three documentation showing that you have the financial means to support yourself during your studies in Canada such as bank statements scholarship or bursary Awards or a letter from a family member or friend outlining their financial support number four completed ircc application forms which I've screenshot and linked below so guys it's very important to accurately fill out and complete these forms otherwise they may be rejected which will delay the processing of your application finally number five pay your fees a processing fee is required prior to submitting your application and depending on what you need you'll be charged the following fees as shown on your screen by the way guys just a heads up some students might need a study permit extension down the line especially if they're planning to do a OnePlus One program or transfer to a different DLI school before you apply for an extension you'll need a letter of acceptance from the new school or program and guys if you need assistance with obtaining an Loa but as of April 19 2023 it might take a little longer because over 100 fifty thousand public workers have called a general strike and this includes ircc employees so at this point we can only wait and expires and are awaiting a decision on your application then you can continue to stay and study in Canada under the same conditions as your original permit you have what is called maintained status until a decision is made on your application similarly you may be wondering if you can work while your study permit extension application is being processed so guys again as long as you've applied to extend your study permit before it expires you can continue to stay and study in Canada under the same conditions as your original permit for example if your original study permit allows you to work while studying you can continue to do so while you wait for decision on your extension number eight what happens if I apply for an extension after my study permit has already expired oh no guys it's best to avoid the situation since losing your status can be costly and challenging to restore if you lose your status you will not be permitted to study in Canada this means you will not be able to continue your studies until your status is restored and a new study permit is issued additionally since you will not be able to meet the conditions of your original study permit this will also impact your ability to work as well so the lesson here is to be aware of your timelines and take the appropriate action before hits the fan number nine I've applied to extend my study permit can I travel outside of Canada and come back to re-enter Canada as an international student you must have a valid study permit or approval for a new study permit or study permit extension in addition you have to meet these other following requirements such as having a valid passport or travel Document attending a designated learning institution possessing a valid visitor Visa or electronic travel authorization and also meeting all other entry requirements however if your study permit extension application is pending approval you will not be permitted to study until it is approved similarly if your application for a study permit extension has not yet been approved you will not be permitted to enter Canada the lesson here is to postpone any travel plans until you have your status sorted out last but not least number 10 I came with my family to Canada should I apply for extensions for my family too Alright guys so some International students come to Canada to study and bring their spouse and children along as the main applicant your family's permits are valid for the same duration as your study permit this means when you apply to extend your study permit you should also apply to extend the permits of your family members on the other hand if your study permit expires your family's permits expire as well if this happens the student and their family members may have to restore
