Exploring SMALL Streams for BIG FISH! (Bobber fishing)

if you want to turn a good day into a great day go away to small stream especially if it's hot out I promise it doesn't suck well good afternoon I feel like a giant turd because I ate way too much so I figured the best way to do that is to burn some calories might as well walk to try and catch some fish so I'm gonna wade this little dinky Creek try to catch some channel cats one my favorite late summer hot day low water activities it looks pretty juicy of not gonna lie let's get fishing okay oh I got I got me a chunky Gill I'm gonna hook it on a little 504 out hook I think it's four out we gotta gotta make sure I get those guts on there yep it's the time here where the old little boys metabolisms all revved up the waters really warm where has been warm it might not be as warm at the moment but well there's a bluegill it's a good sign I have the right bait yeah I'm just going to chuck a little slip float gift it by that snag and just keep it drift in down to that rock jetty hopefully somebody will dart out and eat it yeah I just got spinner off 10 pound braid and slip float some cut bait on it ready for it to zip under i'ma reel it in and chuck it sounded a little deeper that could possibly be an issue got the Cubs game on in the background it's pretty nice here's to be taking the bottom now which is pretty much what you want trying to get enough catfish is that a hit I think that's a hit there he is I came off obviously need to tighten my drag down but hey I know I'm in the zone now you didn't take off with it right away so I'm assuming he wasn't big he sets what I'm gonna tell myself to make myself feel better should probably not set the hook like a on this next one am I getting tagged tag yeah got my big corncob float I like the extra buoyancy because it keeps it taking on the bottom a little bit better I hear Pat screaming in the background that usually means good things the latest greatest craze anymore is called bumpin where you use your boat float downriver and you bump your bait along the bottom this is kind of like the small stream version where instead of your boat floating downstream you have your bobber floating downstream oh I think we're getting hit had to smoke in that time I don't know what is it those guys like it kind of feels like a turtle now it feels like a pretty nice fish you got ten pound braid 14 pound leader medium heavy steel head rod and a mean spicy channel cat I believe real nice one he's giving me the beans or I'm giving him the bean so I'm not sure oh yeah exactly what I am looking for is you're gonna be dinner get over here forgot how much fun of a fight even these two pounders are on this rod smoked him on the hook set right in the corner you got it like that I like like hubby's Irwin is Baez hit a bomb and pitcher Jose Quintana helping himself out with a single waiting small streams in the summer is awesome love this stuff they fight so good out when the waters have been warm and the metabolisms all revved up yeah absolute blast all right he goes on a string the goal is eight haven't kept very many fish this year and some catfish sounds pretty spectacular my fish till I get eight usually that fish go I'm done fishing but fish till I get eight and then go home and clean my cubby some more don't even have to hear what Pat saying they're doing it's all excited happens yes I do too tip of the day you got to sent your rod down find something to set your reel on top of so it doesn't in the sand in your stuff lasts a lot longer so people give me a hard time saying I'm hard on stuff I don't see it okay my reels get cleaned every year and I do stuff like that I don't drop reels in the sand or anything crazy yeah see if I make a tripod out of this well would you look at that I feel like I missed my calling I should have been an engineer all right back to fishing I'm gonna drift it by that timber give I don't anything move one thing about doing this you got a fish fast which is the opposite of longer rod helps with mending line on your float okay then set a foot deeper cast it the downstream side of that root wad and and yeah you don't have to fish with the float honestly a float is probably less effective than casting a bait on the bottom right in front of the snag so I like watching a bobber go under and take off and whatnot so so yeah this is just a barren cut bank and I'm gonna fish pretty effectively the majority of it if you have your depth set right only about three foot deep but it don't take much water to hide a catfish this definitely deserves quick drift we'll be entertaining if i hook line holding this camera what happened fast oh that was to sleep perfect either - they're going to be delicious [Music] here yeah that was more the size catfish I was expected out of here she was exactly what I want okay camera under one arm fishing her out under the other all right give her one quick trip through there with the camera under the armpit the cluster going down as far as what kind of spots to fish like target deeper water but if something looks fishy I mean make it drift it don't hurt nothing it doesn't take that much time to make a drift so ya like it the looks of it give your shot and you don't get anything that's cool just move on the next spot nope you just got tagged pick it up and run with it there you go I thought this spot looks pretty good Oh another perfect eater yep he's a little bigger I'm gonna take him to the bank so I don't have to mess with this camera if I can keep him out of that wall in my stringer have so much right another dandy a couple pounds probably a couple fish tacos then we're almost to our our quota of eight already and they've only fished one spot they're not almost but three first hole the other ones but I should get a different stringer for this but you know what I found this one in the rocks when I was like 12 years old you know there's those things you lose all the time those things you could never lose I could never lose the stringer no matter how much I try I don't try but you get the point if you only lose stuff you don't want to lose the string it's kind of indifferent about it I've had it forever so I don't know much but I know me some small stream channel cats so what I grew up doing okay I made a drift no fish there's probably more fish in there but I'm just targeting ones who are down to chow ain't got time for nobody else especially that juicy water up there ooh one thing I sure do enjoy doing is walking around the bend and seeing what is in store for you and this spot looks should you did you see it in the best way possible there's a drop-off here there could be a fish there but low-percentage not gonna turn up my time yeah this little sandbar yeah yep definitely gonna put a cast there all right not that deep s cover the most the cover is out of the water so moving on so far the first hole I fish is the best stuff I've seen by far I don't know keep walking keep checking stuff out and if not then if I don't do any good or find anything I'll just hit that hole again on the way back to my vehicle hopefully pick up a couple more this actually looks pretty juicy especially considering its slowed down substantially since that first hole yeah there should be a fish there who knows maybe that first hole is just that good I know where to find out there he goes nice little did I thought he was on it my bait bumped into a fish and spooked it no US carp cat just got spoiled at that first spot thinking they're all gonna be like that stay aware this would be a whole lot of fun first time I ever fished this river oh there we go come on small fish nope I guess this goes with fish and new water you don't know what to expect not came across any water that makes me giddy since that first old alright last ditch effort I'm seeing now that this this river is not big enough well your normal twists and turns are gonna hold fish so it's gonna take a unique feature to create water deep enough it's gonna hold them and there may be something up the river about half a mile so I'm gonna get my walking shoes on getting that walking mentality suppose I better get some looting on for this Trek well win lose or draw I'm at the lot last spot I'm gonna fish it's a real real hard bend in the river it's deep enough for Search barely any current I'll drift the bait through the local area but I'd really really like to get to where the current starts that's where active fish set up but there's a little bit of her and I guess we'll see yeah I do this up falling on my face these rocks do not look very soft this is not the ideal angle then preferably I would be on the other side throwing to this side but I was gonna cross the ground on the opposite there's poison ivy everywhere and I'd look at poison ivy and I get it I'm getting pecked at well a guy following it very good tried to hit him with the old KVD Kevin VanDam granny catfish mother don't pay attention to bass got him that time yeah oh he's in something and he's out of it sweet I knew as soon as I walked away from my string right catch one string or slashed bait halfway to the original goal but I guess if I don't catch eight I don't have to clean as many so there's that add one more to the feast halfway to the goal alright got more bait time to repeat what just happened that would be swell snag right there wonderful option - you should have retied that leader anyway thanks rock alright last class class last cast try and chuck it way up well for any bad if you haven't tried this whole waiting for channel cat thing i mean it's a lot of fun i'm pretty wore out walked a long ways one of the best ways to do it is go with the buddy and go from bridge to bridge that's a whole lot of fun and used to do that a lot when i was younger i don't obviously i obviously spend more time on the fly heads and other stuff now but i like to shake it up once or twice every year and do a little waiting for channel cats because it said when it's hot out it's a good way to beat the heat but speaking of heat i am hot tired and still gonna clean them fish and walk back to my truck i'm gonna be really tired when it's all said and done thanks for watching really appreciate it hope you catch [Music]
