hi everyone welcome back to my channel my name is chloe and for today's video we're going to be doing something a little bit different this video is dedicated to little free libraries which for those who don't know littlefree library is a non-profit organization committed to encouraging neighborhood book exchanges around the world you may have found yourself on a walk on occasion and have seen a box or a little cupboard full of books with the little note that says something like take a book share a book tiny tiny libraries that people will build on the street encouraging folks in the neighborhood to bring books that they no longer want and maybe swap them for a book that somebody else has left in the past couple months i have become fixated obsessed enamored with the idea of little free libraries there are three very very close to my house and my new favorite thing to do has been taking patty for a walk and just poking my nose in the little free libraries it's also been a fantastic way for me to get rid of books that i've read and want to pass on for somebody else to love our local libraries aren't taking book donations right now because of covet and i love the idea of somebody in my neighborhood getting to take a book and enjoy it especially since there are lots of students in our neighborhood when i've left books there in the past i've consistently found that within a couple days sometimes even within a couple hours the book that i've left is gone they're clearly being used especially when we know that so many books end up in landfills so throughout the course of this video i am going to be taking you with me as i journey to the little free libraries near my house over the course of several weeks dropping off books for other folks to read and just taking a peek to see if there's anything exciting that i might want to take home with me and give a try i have a rule for myself that whenever i go to the little free libraries i need to leave a book but i will not always take a book so this means a couple things one that i am leaving more books than i'm taking and that my book collection is shrinking and not growing and two i'm trying to be conscious of how i use little free libraries i am fortunate to be in the position where i can purchase books new and i like to purchase books new especially if it's a new author or if it's from a local bookstore but equally i also like the idea of reducing waste and being able to give and receive items without having to exchange money for them so just to say that i'm conscious of how i'm using little free libraries making sure that i'm leaving more than i'm taking and i say this because again while i'm in a position that i can purchase new books not everybody is and i know that there are people who are probably using little free libraries who are taking more than they're leaving because they may not have books to leave and i think that that's totally fine i'm not here to police little free libraries but just to say that recognizing that i'm somebody who uses them in a privileged position i try to do it responsibly that's my really long intro so without further ado let's take a look at the little free libraries it's kind of like a come book shopping with me video except you're just gonna come around the block with me okay so today i'm going to bring up unwanted by sarah galey i reviewed this in my august wrap up i think and i had really high hopes for it and it was like a pretty solid three stars for me really just okay but it's oh hello patty it's like a really cool idea and i feel like hopefully someone else will read this and get excited about it and uh and give it some love so yeah that'll be today's drop-off boy nobody we got some macroeconomics introduction to bridge classic chicken soup but we did get coffee we're doing another trip very very messy room in the background but i read this several months ago over the top by jonathan venice his memoir i liked it i thought it was good but i probably won't reread it that's a dirty sock so we're gonna bring it to a little free library and see if someone else will give it some love we are washing our sheets which is what's going on here gross are you looking at hmm interior design rob look in this entire series that i don't know be excited yeah also statistics for people who hate statistics i respect that all right little free library you've done me well today it's too big there we go okay pumpkin is how creepy this one is hello maro girl found my dark vanessa which i know very little about i'm pretty sure it's like a is it an upsetting age gap book i think it is yes yes it is i know i've heard lots of people talk about this and i know that it's a good reads um excuse me ma'am i know that it's a goodreads nominee this year i think so i feel like that's a pretty good find hello um it's a sunday so this is what this is what happens on sundays it is a pretty gloomy day outside we literally just went to them little free libraries yesterday but it's sunday and we both want a beverage they have dog hair all over me it's a good excuse for me to drop off more books so the one that i'm gonna bring today paint my cute little book stamp is some places more than others by renee watson i read this in august i think and then didn't realize when i got it that it was more of a middle grade book i read it i liked it but i think that you know if someone can pick it up who has kids i think it would probably be a lot more meaningful and valuable to them so i have another book by renee watson oh yeah pc me together i have pcmu together as well which i'd like to read you know at some point when it happens but uh this one i read it i liked it that's the plan for today oh god there's a bird let's go good goodbye book no books for us today but we're gonna get a cider right potty right patty hey it's me i'm just chilling on the couch with patty we're gonna go to the little free library because although it is nine o'clock at night it's a really beautiful night and it's been like snowing and it's like 15 degrees out so we're gonna just go for a walk and when we go for a walk it means we have to go to the little free library so the book i'm gonna be dropping off is poverty safari by darren mcgarvey i have mixed feelings about dropping this book off because i really did like the beginning of it in the last like 50 pages or so the author really really lost me and starts critiquing intersectionality basically saying that prioritizing gender and race as analytics aren't useful in the context of analyzing poverty omitting the fact that when crenshaw theorized intersectionality she was looking at gender race in class and he's also writing it as a white dude so i just i i just found it really icky and then the first kind of again however many pages of the book feel very like lefty and then he kind of just goes in this weird direction at the end had the last quarter of the book been like the first three quarters i maybe would be keeping it also it has jk rowling on the cover do i want a book that has her name on it in my house not particularly i think that's what we're gonna what we're gonna leave today listen we went to the little free libraries all three of them there was nothing of interest in any of them so i dropped off my book everything was good i was like you know what down one book that's amazing i was happy rob was happy and then we went to the drugstore on the way home the pharmacy to get laundry soap because we're out and we need to do laundry because we're adults did you know that the pharmacy has books oh my god not only did they have pretty good books but they were 25 off so this is upside down i got ties that tether by jane agaro a very new release like september 2020 i think and it's a romance between a nigerian woman who immigrates to canada and a white dude from canada and i've heard good things about it and the cover is really pretty and i literally had just been looking at this at the library earlier today and the wait time was like 17 weeks and then missing from the village the story of serial killer bruce mcarthur the search for justice and the system that failed toronto's queer community by justin ling who is an investigative reporter this is like a true crime book that centers around the queer community in toronto and i've heard it's very excellent as well and it's also a 2020 release so am i proud of what's happened here no is rob happy about what's happened here because i bought these books using his credit card no it is what it is i don't know what to say this was not a successful adventure but it kind of was hello it's another sunday and i woke up like 20 minutes ago today we're dropping off this slightly beaten up that might be some coffee but ultimately in fairly good condition copy of bad feminist by roxanne gay my friend kate was generous enough to lend this to me and i read it and i know that some people love this book i really loved some of the essays and then some of the essays i just didn't really connect with at all roxane gay is dealing with a lot of different elements of pop culture like tv shows and movies and books and if i hadn't seen or read those things it just went right over my head and i generally like i'm not usually someone who's drawn to essay collection so i was actually like i was pleasantly surprised with this because there were some that i really enjoyed the only one that's really stuck with me is the one about her playing scrabble which is funny because it's probably the least like quote-unquote feminist essay in this volume but if you like media critique and like critical analyses of pop culture i think that you'd really like this i think that this is something that someone would probably be excited to see in a little free library because people know this book and i know that a lot of people want to or have read this book so i shall be dropping this off today i have this book it's the education of an idealist by samantha power i don't know anything about it what i do know is that i acquired this copy it is a large print edition it is incredibly heavy and 850 pages long i will read this one day this is not the format i'm gonna read it in no matter what i will read as an ebook probably because this is just too much it's just too much this is what we're gonna bring to the little free library and hopefully somebody who appreciates large print books we'll take it because i think someone will like that and it's supposed to be a really good book so bye it's me i was outside and it feels like hurricane-esque outside so my hair looks like this now it's a lot of forehead it's a lot of forehead it was a good day in little free library land we got the one by john mars which i've heard a lot of people say good things about i know it's about a world in which there's new technology developed where people can figure out who their one soul mate is based off of dna so then a bunch of people are trying to like test whether the person they're with is actually their correct soulmate and like who their soul mates are and then some things go awry as would be expected in that plan then i found one by one by ruth ware which is a 2020 release it's the newest ruth ware book i've heard some people who say it's super boring and super predictable and some people who just really really enjoyed it i still have not read any ruth ware i have the turn of the key and i have the death of mrs westaway and haven't read i was gonna read one of them in october and i didn't get to either but today was just an excellent day we're bringing someone's listening by serafina nova glass to the little free library this was an arc i won on a goodreads giveaway which was exciting and it was good it was about a psychologist who had wrote a book about how to leave abusive partners and then someone was coming for her using some of the tactics that she had written about in her book it was good i won't read it again so i'm gonna pass it along we are also going to pick out books from our local buy nothing group because someone posted some books that i would like and i have a problem so rob's left me already okay so i did not realize i would be getting this many books there was not anything at the little free libraries but i have a giant bag of books that i need to go through so that's exciting so ignoring the dog hair because we need to vacuum there's quite a few books in this stack that i'm definitely going to keep but i'm really excited about so educated which i've read but um i read an ebook of it and i really enjoyed it so i'll definitely hang on to that love lives here which i again read it and loved it but lent out my copy and don't really expect to get it back the art of racing in the rain another one which i feel like everyone's right except for me the right swipe which was on my list and as a romance excited about that we are all completely beside ourselves which i hadn't heard of but looked at it and it had good reviews spatties for a house in the sky which i read several like back in 2016 i want to say and really really enjoyed it such that i wouldn't mind having a physical copy and i'd be also curious to reread it and see if i still like it as much now as i remember liking it when i read it like five years ago so it's exciting all these books by harlan cobin who his books have really good reviews but i am not super interested in like that kind of mystery book so i'll pass those on and then a bunch of non harlan cobin books orange is the new black which i read and thought it was just okay so i'm happy to pass that on i don't know if any of the other ones were ones that i was familiar with fill up all the libraries near our house all right so we're back thanks so much for following along on that journey i hope that it was fun and not weird it probably was a little bit weird let me know what you think of this type of video i can definitely keep making them let me know if you use the little free libraries near your house i'll leave a link to the little free library website in the description let me know what your best find has been what you thought of the books that i picked up and the ones that i got rid of thanks so much for tuning in and i'm looking forward to seeing you next time
