welcome to Lisbon Portugal's capital city and the second oldest capital city in Europe famous for its tiled buildings its cobbled streets and its Steep inclines and past asianata so come with us today as we take a walking tour of Lisbon and see all of its top attractions we are currently stud in praga Dom Pedro which is one of Lisbon's most Central Lively plazas and as you can see underneath me it's also got this kind of psychedelic floor pattern that's made up of cobbles it's also got two fountains that are from the Baroque style architecture and this incredible statue in the center just around the corner from that square is the Santa just a lift this cast iron construction was built in 1902 and connects the lower part of the city with the upper part of the city however it is renowned for a really long queues to get into the lift however we've got a solution for that and there's quite a simple way to get to the top without having to wait for the lift as predicted really long cues for the lift so let's walk past these cues and get to the top in about five or ten minutes we speak from experience when we say that if you want to do the left because it's iconic here in Lisbon I get it completely I did too but it's not worth a two to three hour wait that sometimes can be Q's still going and it's still growing and it's only 10 30 so let's go walk to the top as you walk behind the lift take a left walk up the street and take a right up these stairs outside mango follow the stairs up and you'll soon be at the top look for the sign that says so Portuguese and walk up the final set of stairs to reach the viewpoint [Music] and when you find the hordes of people you know you've made it [Music] and that's it now we're at the top of the Santa just to lift didn't cost you a penny we didn't queue and it took us a total of five minutes the views up here are fantastic and you get to experience it just The Same by taking the stairs up just around the corner from the exit of the lift is the Carmo Convent it's mostly ruins and we're just gonna go inside it's about five euros for entry and it looks quite interesting in there so we're gonna go check that out next we are stood in the ruins of the Carmo Convent archaeological site it was built in 1389 but it has this tragic past in 1755 when the gigantic earthquake hit Lisbon it was mostly destroyed attempts to rebuild were made in the 1800s but it was later decided to leave it as it is also here is a small Museum that holds artifacts found all over Portugal it's a great place to learn a little bit more about the karma Convent as well as a lot more about the earthquake that tragically happened here in 1755. all of the preserved artifacts that were not destroyed are in the main museum at the back here and there's absolutely beautiful ceiling here as well it's really good that most of this survived the earthquake behind Ruda prata Lisbon's Main Street you'll find a coffee shop called the folks which is renowned for having some of the best coffee in Lisbon so we've grabbed two flat whites before we head out and continue to explore the city of Lisbon we're walking on the Main Street of Lisbon here and as you'd expect shops cafes and restaurants but what struck me is that why the second oldest capital city in Europe has a grid system and that's because the original City was destroyed in 1755 and when they rebuilt it they decided to implement the grid system anyway we're gonna head down the street now towards the old entry point which where the port was and this would be the entry point to anyone that was visiting Lisbon so we're gonna go check that out now [Music] thank you [Music] thank you thank you foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] thank you we stood in the main square of Lisbon and behind me there is Arco derua Augusta this is the main entrance into the city still today and it used to be where the people were disembarked from the port and walk into the city center also just over there is an equestrial statue and this place here was once in the 1980s actually used as a car park but today it's just for the people to walk on about three kilometers outside of the city center of Lisbon is the dock area where all the small Yachts are parked up it's also a great view of the suspension bridge behind me which might look familiar because it was built by the same Consortium that built the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco only this one is supposedly a little bit longer we're going to be riding on that tomorrow as we head further south to the coast of the time being we're just going to walk through this dock area which is full of some really cool restaurants and bars and cafes so tomorrow we'll be riding over the bridge today we ride under [Music] it's a great way to get around down and it's quite inexpensive too there's lots of these cycle tracks to make it quite straightforward this is awesome though look at the view so behind me is the iconic ballon Tower this 16th century fortification served as an entry and exit point for Portuguese explorers and today it's very very popular so if you want to go inside I recommend you get here early because the queues can be extremely long but it is the most beautiful place here in Lisbon to come and visit for me Ellen Tower is definitely one of my favorite places here in Lisbon it looks like something straight out of a fairy tale we got here it's about six kilometers outside of the city so you can get hit by scooter or by tram or by taxi and then we're gonna walk back and see one more Monument along the seafront that's right I wouldn't mind coming back another time and seeing it when there's a high tide yeah definitely you're surrounded by water I bet that's really spectacular just across the road from the monastery is this Monument of discovery which was a temporary structure in 1940 but has remained a permanent fixture and it's a reminder of the discoveries of Henry the Navigator we're just gonna cross the road now and head over to the monastery behind us is the geronimo's monastery which also houses the Museum of archeology and Maritime history it's got crazy cues today so we're not going to head inside but just further down this road is one of the most renowned past station NADA cafes in all of Lisbon so we're going to walk that way and go check it out so here we are at pastel now if you look over here you will see hundreds of pastries and great treats and they're all made on site and if you go around the back you can actually watch them being made let's go check it here it is the famous pastaged Donata being made you can see them just in the back there putting them into the oven so make sure you get here and check out the past station Arthur a popular place to grab lunch is the time out Market here in Lisbon and that's where we're gonna head in to grab some lunch M's already ran ahead she's gonna go and place the order I think she's a little bit hungry so this is it it is a collection of various cuisine lots of drink places too I used to be fossil it in here in here it's hard to pick which store are you going to go to but we've decided to go with this one and maybe try a few bits from other places we're gonna grab the uh combo Sushi from this place and then I heard there's a vegan burger down here so Sean's definitely going to be heading for that awesome that's our food ordered we're gonna see who's Buzz is the soonest yeah I think M's might be the quickest so you get these little buzzers and when they go off it's the most exciting sound in the entire world yeah you run back it's also a bar in the Middle where we're gonna grab our drinks from what do you fancy Sean so the second biggest game of the timeout Market is trying to find the seat in here in peak times it's almost impossible but do persevere you will find a spot and you will enjoy it yeah last time it was it was a competition defined can we do get it for you all right you are gonna be so happy look at this oh that looks great didn't have to wait long for that no that looks delicious don't you be thinking you're gonna have something while you're waiting for yours mine still hasn't buzzed come on we're going nearly going just straight in look at the avocado on that looks so good laughs no one ever looks elegant while eating a burger today very good you good on your nose we went apartment mum is it good mine has arrived I got the combi Sushi platter from a place called zero zero which was yeah it came pretty quickly as well but they look super good foreign Biko it's only about a one minute walk from the timeout market and it's a little tram that takes you up to the upper part of the city we took the time last time we were here it's a nice experience yes that's really the last time we're not gonna wait in the queue um you can actually just walk alongside the tram line which is also nice because you actually get to see the tram and take some pictures so it's only like a five minute five minute walk uphill and you've got lots of offshoots of other little streets from the tram line so you can also explore a little bit more which is what we're gonna go do now so we're gonna head the little Alleyway just there [Music] like we mentioned you can walk right alongside the trams and watch them come up and down and it's also the perfect spot for a few photographs and a few selfies if you are looking for an allergy friendly alternative or if you're a vegan and plant-based there is a great option here we have the very famous vegan Natha or vegan past stationata just on the Main Street here we're gonna go get two to try I think okay so here they are and you can add normally you add some cinnamon to the top of it yes four thank you do you want cinnamon on your shop yeah yeah so here we have them they come in beautifully packaged box I've got two with cinnamon and two without a look they are so flaky and perfect now my sister tried these last time we were in Lisbon and she also tried normal pastation after and she said she could hardly tell the difference between the two so these are a great alternative it's late afternoon and we have hiked up to our last spot of the day and it's all the way up to Castle Jorge um it's 15 euros each if you want to go and walk around the walls but if you don't fancy that it's also a great area to come and visit anyway because there's lots of little streets and boutique shops here yeah it's really really sweet area and some good Vantage points on the way so even if you don't want to go into the castle it's definitely worth the worth the walk up here but I would recommend if you do want to go in the castle book online and skip the queues because they can be extremely long as with everything in Lisbon so it's a really good feature that you can buy a ticket online and then skip the queue when you arrive here yeah well for us we're just going to have a little walk around these little cute streets and maybe a little bit of shopping you think so maybe a little bit uh M might be one in a little tile but here we go no we went on this side yeah this way it's very easy to get lost through these little screens but enjoy that and just wander through it's really lovely area up here yeah and then we're going to wander back down the other side of the hill on the way back down and that's to another quite famous spot where the trams pull up there yeah and maybe maybe some gingera for tonight oh yeah we haven't had gingera yet so that's a must do when you're in Lisbon so maybe we'll find a gingera bar later this evening [Music] thank you thank you [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] as you walk down the hill from the castle there's a little vantage point that you shouldn't Miss it's quite easy to find lots of great examples of old tiles as well and Emily's already enjoying the view foreign yeah you get to see all the little rooftops over here and the water out there too another really popular thing to do here in Lisbon is jump on the tram 28 which takes you around the entire city it is always packed and super busy and you can walk through if you so choose to that's what we've done today and we're going to continue downtrend Route 28 all the way to the bottom back down into the lower part of the city I think the best thing about a little city trip to Lisbon is there's so much to see here and there's so much to do you've got the beaches there's also loads of day trips you can do from Lisbon it's definitely not a city to be rushed this tour we've done is in one day but we have been here before so we'd recommend if you come to Lisbon come for the weekend and maybe discover a little bit more this is the last must do it's a requirement it's a requirement the last must-do thing in Lisbon is to go and sample some Gin Gin Gin hinha yeah and you can either get it with or without a cherry at the bottom I prefer mine without a cherry yeah it's quite sour but it's very sweet as well let's go and travel this is one of the original places to buy this drink it's not so far from the train station but you can easily find this one so here it goes Cheers Cheers schools I love this one it is nice I'll give you that it has got a really lovely Cherry taste to it and as you can see they've put three or four cherries in the bottom and they are one Euro 50 a shot with cherries yeah or you can buy an entire bottle from the supermarket for about six squid yeah it's quite a dangerous drink it's about 22 I think but it tastes just like fruit juice we're in ao26 which is a vegan food project here in the center of Lisbon and it's one of my all-time favorite restaurants in the entire world we've been here a few times and today we're going to share it with you we've ordered our starters already which is the cheese board we have the soup of the day and the take on cuttlefish which are incredible this is the cheeses that we can go through we have a creamy herb cheese here we have a take on blue cheese paprika this is a take on Parmesan and these two are this one is Brie and this one is sage and onion and this one is a seed one and we also have some Chutney we also got a couple of cocktails and a and wine and we have some more incredible food coming so we're gonna try some of this now I'm gonna have some of the bread which they make fresh in-house and I also love this blue cheese it's so so good it's so good okay Mains have arrived I went for The Medallion on a pancake of potato at the bottom we also have their version of a Caesar salad with tofu and Sean went for the seitan steak with a crispy sweet potatoes everything look Divine I haven't tried this one before so I'm very excited let's cut into it look at that so we're gonna dig into this and enjoy this incredible food and then maybe we'll order dessert here at ao26 they do daily specials of desserts and this one is the coffee and chocolate cheesecake made with feta how good this looks this was super strong coffee flavor but we're gonna eat this and then we're going to take one last roll from Lisbon and that will be the end of our time here as tomorrow we're heading south towards the coast again
