EXPLAINED: THE DEAD MAN ON THE WALL IN THE LAST OF US EPISODE 1

in the first episode of The Last of Us there's a scene where a dead infected person is seen on the wall this part must have surprised many people especially those who haven't played the games who is this infected person and how did they become like that let's understand everything in the series Joel and Tesco after Robert a trafficker who had stolen a car battery that was to be sold to them Robert and his gang were planning to sell the battery to the fireflies Joel and Tess of course did not like this betrayal and went after the guys to get to where the guys were they would need to pass through an area prohibited for the quarantine Zone civilians this would be a big problem but since Joel and Tess are Smugglers they understand well the alternative routes that exist throughout the city they use one of these alternative routes through an abandoned Subway tunnel and it is when they go this way that the duo Encounters this nasty thing which used to be a person a man infected with cordyceps but not a zombie like those seen in the beginning of the episode why isn't this infected person a zombie in reality cordyceps can infect people in various ways one of these ways is these zombies that appear at the beginning of the episode this grotesque form which appears in this part of the episode is another type of infection in fact not even zombies are truly zombies because zombies are dead people the infected in The Last of Us did not die but in reality their brain was infected by the cordyceps fungus this type of infection that appears in the franchise the infected who roam around attacking and infecting others spreading the plague for everyone they resemble zombies a lot but they are not zombies this second infection is even tenser this is because this situation only happens when the host's organism cannot handle cordyceps in these cases instead of possessing the host's body cordyceps simply kills people so it's good to be clear that the infected are not zombies for someone to turn into a zombie they must first die in these cases like the guy in the episode he died but did not become a dead person instead the fungus continued growing from the remains of the person and that's exactly what happened with the guy who appears on the wall instead of turning into an infected person like those seen in other scenes this guy had the worst luck since his body couldn't handle the mutations of cordyceps then he was thrown into the pit but the fungus continued growing from his dead body and eventually spread over the wall as shown in this scene of the series an important detail about this type of infection is that it usually only occurs in underground areas or places with no contact with sunlight since contact with sunlight kills the fungus immediately in games when this type of infection occurs if the fungus grows it begins to generate spores when inhaling the spores the person is infected immediately that's why during games there are Parts where characters put on masks to walk through regions with spores these are also the areas where many shellfish infected appear such as baeicus for example but there has been a change in the series they have already confirmed that the spores will not appear however this does not mean that infected like the dead guy will be harmless instead of producing spores when the fungus grows too much they will produce shoots the shoots are like those parts that grow from plants and start to grip on leaves branches and so on it was confirmed that the shoots will replace the fragments in the HBO series according to the series creators Neil druckman and Craig Mason if they used the fragments it wouldn't make sense to use them in the same way they appear in games this is because in the context in which the series is being developed the fragments would spread throughout the world and soon everyone would become infected then there would be no series it would be complicated your support means everything to us so please consider subscribing liking commenting and sharing our content [Music]
