pastor Rayford and to everybody my brothers and sisters in the gospel Luke chapter number four you should be there by now beginning at the first verse and Jesus being filled with the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit I'm reading out of the New King James translation and Jesus being filled with the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan and was led by the spirit into the wilderness being tempted for forty days by the devil and in those days he ate nothing and afterward when they had ended he was hungry and the devil said to him and the devil said to him if you are the son of God command that this stone to become bread but jesus answered him saying it is written man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God then the devil taking him up on a high mountain showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time and the devil said to him this authority all of this authority I will give to you and all of this glory for this has been delivered to me and I will give it to whomever I wish therefore if you will worship before me all of this will be yours jesus answered and said to him get thee behind me Satan that's what pleading the blood is for it is written you shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve then he brought him to Jerusalem set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him if you are the son of God throw yourself down from here for it is written he shall give his angels charge over you to keep you and in their hands they shall bear you up lest she dash your foot against the stone I'm getting to the end and jesus answered and said to him it has been said you shall not tempt the Lord your God verse 13 our situational text verse it says now when the devil had ended every temptation he departed from him until a more opportune time the Amplified Bible reads verse 13 and when the devil had ended every the complete cycle of his temptation he temporarily left Tim that is he stood off from him until another more opportune and favorable time I want to talk tonight for just a few minutes to start this week off when you repeat my subject after me somebody shout everything the devil tried it didn't work find somebody where you can shake their hand and shake it like you're gonna shake it off and said neighbor neighbor neighbor everything the devil tried it didn't work and make them believe that you are a survivor and say neighbor neighbor the devil tried it didn't work and signify to hell in the devil have say everything you throw at me that you tried to please him it just feeling here y'all sit down for just a minute everything I said everything the devil tried just the commercial we have some product with us and we have t-shirts that say everything the devil tried didn't work make sure you get yours before you leave the night so that you can wear it the whole year along with some other stuff all right that was a commercial break I don't know if you would agree with me or not there is much trouble and travesty there is an evil principality that is working invisibly undercover underground it is an evil principality that is showing its head blatantly through discrimination sexism gender ISM and all of the isms and schisms it is as if now that the nation is under the auspices of a new CEO that the evil has heightened like we've never seen it before if you read o Testament where they had good kings and bad kings and whenever there was a bad king or not so favorable King the nation Israel suffered under the hand of the one who was reigning Old Testament it's the same paradox that is happening in the earth still that under the old administration former administration of eight years and we missed them ain't talking about nobody but now there seems to have been permission given to the principalities of the universe of the world of our nation it's almost when he stepped in office the Principality said okay let's go and run and we can have it into the lives of some people who are faith walkers mm-hmm and so it is this evil is visible in many different forms shapes sizes colors ethnicities and world systems the Bible declares in 2nd Corinthians chapter 4 verse 8 we are troubled [Music] yet not distressed we are perplexed but not in despair we are persecuted but not forsaken cast down but we are not destroyed there is unprecedented warfare and sometimes it looks and feels like is getting worse before it's going to get better it's warfare on multiple levels the socio-economic level political upheavals a 12-day government shutdown showdown because one man who wants to manipulate and control everything decides that he will put families at risk ok let me keep going there's the name blame shame gained is our immigration crisis and when we come to the church we have some ministry challenges some of us what is visible in every fight I'm finding is that the world has adopted the mentality of the Malcolm X strategy it is the strategy that goes like this by any means necessary oh I got some historians in here we're in a fight for our lives and sometimes a struggle in our kingdom assignment we are in a struggle to contend for the faith deductions and the tenants that are grandma and granddad II brought us upon the doctrines of the faith that says live holy and because holiness is right we're contending for the faith that says that Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God now anything goes in a lot of places including the church a fight in life called human calamities there is warfare in our walk with God if we will be honest called wrestling with the powers of darkness we have internal and external enemies some call the systems of this world the fight is in three dimensions as I hasten to my text the first dimension is a cosmic war in which the forces of an evil are in contention where the Kingdom of Satan wants to defeat the kingdom of God Ephesians says it like this for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this age against spiritual wickedness in high places kind of pause and ask you a question but over 2018 don't go back don't go back don't go back because I don't want you to get upset but-but-but-but in 2018 some of us had to contend with good and with evil some of us had to come through some tough nights some lonely days and some seasons that weren't so favorable even though we have and had the favor of God you see you can have the favor of God but you're not exempt from troubles and crises and situations that can bombard our lives I'm just here tonight just to encourage a few hundred people to you know that it doesn't matter what the devil did in 2018 the fact that you stepped over and to another day into another dimension and to another assignment into God's realm of faith the fact that you made the devil out of a lie and you showed up at church tonight it signifies to hell that you can't stop now that there is no stopping you now the second dimension of this warfare as I race to my text there is a spiritual war which Satan desires to defeat the Church of God so the forces from the cosmic warfare penetrates the realm of the universal Church to the extent that God's people where we are in a fight mega or small medium or large Pentecostal Baptist Methodist Presbyterian Protestant Catholic and Orthodox Orthodox whatever you call yourselves Buddhist whatever whoever you washer Islam whatever whoever there is a spiritual battle there is a contending for your soul there is a contending for your mind there is a contending for your life once you make the decision that I am going to follow Jesus the devil will come for you Satan majors in highlighting the stuff in your church the stuff in your family and the stuff in your personal private space the final dimension the third dimension of this warfare there's an individual war where the cosmic forces have targeted you and me each of us have a different manifestation of warfare because of the unsolicited pain the purpose of God and His plan for our lives simply put we have assignments that we must complete in the earth the Bible says that the enemy has different forms of attacks the Bible suggests the wiles of the devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour devious and cunning stratagems employed through manipulation and deception my mother and the other church mothers will call him a line wonder mm-hmm yeah they they were calling him a trick and a treat he is belzebub Paul calls what we go through afflictions and jars of clay Peter calls it the sufferings of this world James calls it divers temptations which leads us to the text but I came to encourage and reignite your faith that whether it was affliction in 2018 whether it was private sufferings grief or nose pain of injustice or ministry calamities and possibly some uncertainties I came to declare tonight that everything the devil tried has failed I think you ought to give God a praise right there this vivid narrative contains an important blending of theological themes it contains Jesus divine sonship his Messiahship and his humanity it gives us just enough details of warfare between Jesus in his humanity not his divinity but Jesus in his humanity saving the Bible declares that Jesus has just been baptized in other words he has just had an encounter with the holy the Bible declares that after Jesus was baptized while he prayed in verse 21 chapter three the heavens was open and an announcement was made you are my beloved Son in whom I'm well pleased my first point of observation tonight whenever God announces your name you can expect the devil to come for you maybe I'll try somebody over in this section whenever God announces something good about you you can expect the devil to come for you now I know when we are in the hood we got a cliche that says don't come for me unless hi unless I send for you now if you don't come for me you better come with it load it you better come with all double barrels loaded not just with my pass not just with my mistakes not just when I was messed up and upside down and inside out but you better come knowing what you're talking about because now that I made a decision that I'm gonna follow Jesus it doesn't matter what you come with even whatever you come with I got something better than that whenever God whenever God whenever God announces your name whenever he announces your name in the marketplace whenever he announces your name on Capitol Hill whenever he announces your name in the Jenny whenever he announces your name among others people will start to get nervous you will see a lot of hateration going on I just made up a word you'll see a whole lot of hateration going on people would not celebrate you they will tolerate you but now that you got your right mind back now that you are living for God now that you have been through what you've been through you don't owe anybody any apologies just because God has announced your name alright so but this is what got me excited pastor Jenkins this got me excited there were others that had gotten baptized with Jesus but it was Jesus who gets announced in other words God in His omnipotence has orchestrated now how this is going to be and sometimes we don't always know what the process is going to entail all I know is that he's announced me somebody shot for 2019 he's announced my name I had to go through what I went through I had to be by myself I had to cry I had to drive myself to work with tears in my eyes I had to go to sleep at night holding a pillow because nobody was announced your name Jesus wasn't the only one being baptized other people were there also but the announcement is made after his baptism after his encounter after his divine visitation this baptism is about to signify something wait may I suggest to us tonight that whenever we go through a fresh baptism that's what revival is all about whenever we go through freshing of our souls and and a restoring of our spirit and have an encounter with God and a divine visitation you can best believe that the enemy is somewhere looking around the corner just to see how he can trick you in the first part of the year but I came to tell the devil and to serve notice on him I know too much about God now and I've been through too much you can't trip me up with that you can't turn me around with the other it doesn't matter who hurt your feelings who betrayed you who walked out on you the fact that God is still with you and you are stealing here I need you to holla back at your girl and shout Jesus Jesus Jesus I feel my preacher coming on Jesus Jesus he's led by the Spirit the Bible says he's led by the spirit he's led by the spirit into the wilderness now it doesn't make sense to be led by the spirit into a desert place into a barren place after you have had a divine encounter looks like to me God ain't fair sometimes why would you slay me in the floor talk to me about my future tell me things are gonna get better and then I get up from the divine visitation and a fresh anointing and I'm hit slapped upside the head by the devil and you need me in a barren place for him to baptize me me in a barren place okay maybe make sense to some of y'all it doesn't make sense for me to be anointed have a holy visitation and then when I get up and I'm shopping in I'm dancing and I'm happy about my assignment and then he said okay let's go to the wilderness some translation called it a barren place my second point of observation is what do you do when God leads you into Berenice it's not the devil leaving you it's not life happening it's not the change of life you name midlife crisis for the men it ain't menopause for the girls you didn't solicit this place I believe that it signifies that something big is about to come out of this barren place I said I believe that something big is about to come out on the place where I was led to by the Holy Spirit I need you to shake your neighbors hands for the first time as a neighbor neighbor neighbor something big is about to come out of your barren place I need you to find somebody else on the other side and tell them so a neighbor or neighbor or neighbor I see something big coming out of in your dry place you've been in a dry season you you had dried up folks you had a dried-up marriage your church started to dry up your ministry started to dry up your money started to dry up your minds started to dry up but I came to tell somebody the night that that dry place is about the Bible declares it was good for me to encourage you tonight to tell you that you're he's in a barren place and Jesus is out there you know bears some tension in the tech spaceship bishop Owens I saw some tension that was to tell me why Jesus was in this place by himself Lord each wonder I believe I will I said I couldn't find nobody that would have a conversation with me or a discussion not that was signify to me yeah why with Jesus in the barren place well I see the tension that's in the church and the dialogue between Jesus and the double is obvious what's not obvious is what did Jesus encounter Wow he was in and the devil hadn't showed up yet there are some species in our lives that God won't allow nobody in there are some places in our lives that God won't let nobody get a stick with you what he's getting ready to do well every now and then no I said every now and then God bless us the Peace of our enemies he will bless us face of church folk and he will bless us some private space shake your neighbors hand god bless you ready to receive you tried to call name oh yeah you tried to call Joe Joe what you were going through well God said this is a the faith there's no commentary notes from Josephus about Jesus's encounter with guarding a barren place I even looked talk esteem he couldn't give me a statement conversations in the barren place strong now become a loaf of bread alone every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God it was I think I can know who Jesus was he was the bread of life [Music] [Music] [Music] in his authority the devil will tempt you in your place of authority to do teaching us if not more so than Bishop Owens as a little down yeah in a hole in his Pentecostal church a storefront Church Street Northwest Little John is here mother Mallory his grandmother she will walk around the pot belly stole the prostitutes 14th Street shut him down over your money he shut him down over yo potty yeah it's shut him down observation whatever tried to kill you prematurely in 2018 it couldn't kill me now I'm glad you asked me why go ahead ask me why it couldn't kill you because it lost its ability to kill you because stone cannot hide his blessed face I'm satisfied to know Jesus here below I can conquer every four DMV area there's a threat against your assignment that's what the text is all about you've been on there's something that's called gang fighting gang fighting is over territory territory that certain gangs say if you draw a line here you better not cross this line and then there is the epitome of yomama kind of fight okay maybe I got the whole church so there was a fight call word fighting word fighting was when you would say yo mama the words yo mama that's a fight and they were concluded with what either she looks like smell like and it was started fight on the street what my older brothers they were fighters one in particular he would take up for any girl didn't matter what color she was but if you mess with a girl he always was there to fail my oldest brother I won't call him by name he comes home one day mouth is bleeding nose is twisted mama comes out on the porch she said what in the world he said I beat up two guys for messing with a cheerleader so you thought that that was worse well now I'm not a fighter I guess you can look at that my daddy taught me how to change the order and how to check the price the the tech the pressure in my tire but he didn't teach me how to fight he said your brothers are going fight for you I said alright daddy well one day shaggy Luis started reading the news in the cafeteria about the clothes there was a girl by the name of Wanda white her mother was a missionary my mama was a preacher and they started spreading the news in the cafeteria the two one doesn't go and fight in the paths after school so they come to my locker gym you remember Betty Ann Carter she said Wanda you need to learn how to fight real quick now why the white was taller than me and we called her olive oil you know papa's wife we called her olive oil because she was skinnier than me I don't think you'd get any smaller than me don't you say nothing I don't think you would get any smaller than me so I said I'm not fighting her manikanta said yes she was - long story short my mama dressed me like I was going to church when I went to school I had on a black dress with flowers in it a white peter pan collar white socks and patent leather shoes I was addressing something then they I said I can't find her I got on a dress after school we went in the path Oh time it's close we went in the path and she knocked my books out of my hand and then she took one hand and slap me across the face and I started fighting and punching until i tripped her up and didn't know it and Here Come my brother next to me girl what's she's doing fighting Bernie momma gonna get you your dress is all dirty he said but get some mix get some mix kicked her in the ribs pull a hair this is my point every now within you may not be able to fight what you're fighting by yourself and you need somebody to help you to get in a few licks praying and interceding [Music] I tell you when he showed up again it was one more time when Jesus was on the cross God take us down from this cross he's riding one more time but jesus said my assignment is greater no words when the devil comes in 2019 he might come as a thief but jesus said I am come [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I want you to get something in your hand and I want you to make your way get your best [Music] [Applause] [Music] so real quickly where the offering is coming forward I know somebody came in to give their seed but if somebody wants to come and give their life to Jesus right now is the time wherever you are whoever you are I want you to know that Jesus came that you might have a life and life abundantly if you are stuck in your sin there is a cure for that sin right now and you can have it in this moment before we leave we just want to take a moment and if you want to give your life to Jesus right now just get here to this altar as quickly as you can I want you to know this that there's no judgment in this room we won't look at you funny we will clap and celebrate just like we're clapping right now cuz we know how it feels to finally get freedom from that sin we know how it feels so in this moment if you want to trust Jesus in this moment if you are not sure about where you stand with God in this moment if you know you are disconnected from God or if you know that you are disconnected from God's body and you know that you need a church home in order for you to grow there are two churches that are represented here that will receive you gladly First Baptist Church of lunardon greater Mount Calvary Holy Church will receive you gladly if you need to trust Jesus today get here to this altar as quickly as you can if you need to rededicate your life get here to this altar as quickly as you can if you need to join a church if you need a church home get here to this altar as quickly as you can now's the time to come now's the time I see you sis come on let's that they might continue to bear more fruit and much fruit Lord we celebrate what is happening before our very eyes because we recognize a miracle when we see it thank you God for your grace we celebrate you in Jesus name we pray amen amen did the Lord speak to you tonight can we celebrate the preacher dr.
