phase four of the mcu has given us some amazing new characters but also some incredible new powers and skill sets we've never seen before in the mcu what are the best new powers phase four has introduced what are some of the worst how do you even rank what classifies as best or not well everyone's criteria will be a bit different but i think my list is the absolute best and there'll be no pushback whatsoever yup totally believe that where do powers like agatha wenwoo and miss marvel's rank well let's find out right now okay i wanted to start off this list with scarlet witch yes wanda wasn't a new character going into phase 4 but we were only introduced to the full might of her destructive powerful reality bending abilities in one division before that yeah they weren't that impressive don't get me wrong she was already a pretty powerful avenger and could probably pop hawkeye like a grape if she wanted but there was such a vague energy around her from the start i think the line maria hill used to describe wanda's powers as weird is one of the single worst lines in the mcu it effectively set up an attitude of man who knows what she can do and that attitude stuck around until phase four by not really wanting to dive into the magical aspect of her character wanda was forced to wave her hands around and shoot red energy but one division changed everything yes she could use mind control before but juan division retconned her origin to let wanda be magical and the results were the ability to rewrite all of reality herself the ability to create a fake vision and fake children while simultaneously enslaving an entire town is a huge step up from sitting in a cell moving a cube around i kind of feel like the mcu wrote themselves into a corner with how powerful scarlet witch was they kind of had to write her out at least to temporarily because she could essentially solve any problem ever if she wanted but that does beg the question do you think there's room for her to come back time will tell while the eternals may not have been the most well-received movie in the phase 4 lineup you have to at least agree that their skill sets were amazing they had an assortment of different powers that worked better in certain situations of course with the twist of the movie being that they actually were essentially just fancy machines without any machinery inside them you have to wonder why the celestials bothered to give them all individual powers in the first place why make one of them really fast one of them punch really hard and one of them super good at mechanical things couldn't you have given all the powers to everyone but i digress one eternal that does not need more than one ability is cersei although she spent the movie mostly not being able to engage in a lot of the big fights she was the one who put the finishing blow on tiamout turning the giant's celestial into stone let me say that again she altered the molecular foundation of a giant celestial and converted organic matter into inorganic matter and while matter manipulation never sounds as cool or hip as like flight invisibility or the power to shoot many flaming grizzly bears out of your hands or something it's one of the most useful and powerful abilities ever thor is now one of the biggest cornerstones of the mcu which is just wild to think about we know what his skill set is after all this time so there's not a lot left to really surprise us thor is the god of thunder who can smack people really well with some type of worthy weapon i think he also has the superpower of getting dumber every movie but that's just an unconfirmed theory anyways in thor love and thunder thor did display a new type of power using zeus's thunderbolt as a conduit thor pulled an odin and enchanted the group of kidnapped children's weapons this bestowed on all of them the powers of thor for a short time and they kicked shadow monster butt and while this moment is cool it does raise a ton of questions is it only because of the lightning bolts that thor was able to channel this power i mean if not he kind of left everyone high and dry in the final fight against thanos right he could have just given everyone the power of thor in that endgame battle and called it a day and one thing i really like about this power is that it shows thor slowly becoming more like odin as time goes on which is a journey for thor that i'm afraid gets a little lost in his current dum-dum phase well he was advertised as the mcu's version of superman and icarus really did live up to that name his strength speed flight and laser eyes made him the most powerful eternal in a straight up fight there's really not a whole lot to go into with his powers because they're pretty basic he just has all the good ones but i do wonder what his death at the end of eternals means for the future i'm thinking about sentry and how he's also a superman-esque character do you think of icarus stayed alive he could have somehow been tweaked to be the mcu's version of century or do you think with icarus gone we could see sentry show up now and not have any repetitive skill sets happening time will tell but let's talk about icarus again what i liked about the character is that he clearly knew just how powerful he was which made the final fight pretty exciting but of course he ended up flying directly into the sun you know there is a famous greek figure who also flew too close to the sun but uh darn for the life of me i can't remember his name oh well when katherine hahn was announced to be playing a character named agnes in one division it didn't take long for us all to figure out that she was most likely playing the villain agatha harkness man they kind of pulled a sheng chi and sean gag with that name similarity right anyways although it was heavily heavily heavily speculated on by fans that mephisto was going to be the big bad that agatha was working for turns out it was agatha all along cue the song [Laughter] but don't worry agatha proved to be an incredibly ruthless and challenging foe for wanda thanks to her own dark magic abilities being enhanced by the darkhold agatha was a powerful magic user and she often used that ability to steal magic away from others in her words she said she took power from the undeserving and wanted to steal wanda's abilities for herself it's important to clarify here that by herself agatha is a great magic user but she doesn't just use regular magic she uses dark magic which yeah just sounds more evil i guess i'm really looking forward to exploring more of her magical abilities in the ag of the show which i would assume is about how scarlet witch's spell is broken now that she's dead but who knows america chavez might actually have the most useful and powerful ability on this list but i'm not putting her at the top because she clearly hasn't mastered the skill yet she can punch star-shaped holes into the multiverse itself and travel all around different universes and in the grand scheme of things you know the thing called the multiverse saga this ability is extremely important she is so powerful that scarlet witch who is arguably the most powerful being in our universe was determined to kidnap america chavez to use her ability to get what she wanted and let's not forget that her punches themselves are actually extremely strong i keep thinking of that scene in multiverse of madness where they say the glass boxes strange in america are being kept in are almost unbreakable but when christine can't remember her seemingly a hundred character password to open the door amidst wanda's rampage america is able to crack the box with one punch yeah by the end of the movie america seems to have a solid grasp on her abilities and just wants to leisurely learn some extra magic before probably setting off to find her parents so again when kang comes knocking i imagine everyone will soon be knocking on america's door we have seen in black panther that the wakandans worship bast the panther goddess and thanks to a mixture of vibranium and bast's influence certain warriors were able to possess the power of the black panther by eating the heart-shaped herb and being buried in the sand yeah and that's great and all but moon knight went ahead and showed us how that was actually just a lot of extra steps apparently in the mcu if you want a god to possess your body and give you all the powers you need it's pretty simple you just have to be in the right place at the right time i guess and by right time i mean probably close to death and easily susceptible to outside influences but khan shu gave mark an interesting skill set yeah a lot of the powers do come from the suit which isn't really a power but we know that it's pretty easy to come back from the dead if you're conscious avatar all you have to do is not stay in the nice fields and also avoid the sand that turns you to stone or something out of all the powers phase 4 has introduced it's interesting for them to show such an easy way to come back from death itself not to judge a book by its cover but druid seemed more like a villain than icarus at first and maybe that was the point because although druid did some questionable mind control things for seemingly years we learned that he does truly care about humanity and just wants peace though with his invasive power it makes druid one of the strongest characters on earth at least to regular humans that is i imagine if druid interacts with any other superhero they would all say that their minds are much too powerful for the mind control credits will do fine no they won't but imagine if you're fighting druid and all of a sudden an army of mind control beings suddenly swarming to help that more than makes up for the fact that he just kind of had to stand around in the final eternals fight and bash sprite's head in with a rock but you know what druid's a real superpower was having amazing chemistry with makari the speedster seriously i know the love story was supposed to be between cersei and icarus but icarus was too busy pretending to be a good guy and therefore hiding any real human emotion to sell the movie's central relationship it's one of my biggest problems with that film especially because druik and makari just give off this electric feeling of tension with every look like i'd put them as one of the top couples not only in this movie but the mcu as a whole anyways makari is a speedster and automatically that makes her one of the strongest heroes ever i never think speedsters are properly portrayed in any piece of media though because they logistically should be so fast that they never get caught but that's usually not the case so i like makari but i do believe she was nerfed a little bit which is a real shame more makari in the future please wenwoo is one of the greatest villains the mcu has ever seen i definitely put him in my top 10 and possibly he's in the top five he's extremely powerful but also quite sympathetic which is the perfect sweet spot for any mcu villain and wenwu is so powerful because of the 10 rings that he wears around his wrists now although the 10 rings have the ability to destroy a giant dweller in darkness i do have wenmus slightly lower on this list because of the lack of variety of the rings like in the comics the rings all have a unique ability to them that makes them super dangerous but in chiang shi they were mostly just long whips in a force field thingy i'm hopeful though that things will change in the eventual sequel i can see shengshi delving into their history and unlocking some cool new powers that way you can have a sequel that doesn't just rehash what came before plus i guess it's not a powerful skill or anything but a special shout out to all the amazing martial arts that went into shanghi that's a special power all on its own alright the mcu does have a history of tweaking characters backstories and powers and most of the time it goes pretty well obviously there are a few exceptions like the original mandarin twist but even that's retcons now phase four gave us arguably the biggest deviation yet in the form of miss marvel in the comics miss marvel's abilities are that thanks to her inhuman status she is able to stretch herself much like mr fantastic but in the show her backstory is seemingly because she's a mutant and she's able to control a powerful bangle device that allows her to make hard light around her body an immediate area she uses the light to make fun constructs and although she's a little low on this list now i bet after the marvel's movie she'll have mastered her power a bit more and risen through the ranks the more i think about it the more i think the eliath battle in the loki show might be the best sequence the mcu television shows have ever done it's just such an exciting set piece with great effects great action and great characters this is where classic loki really shines loki's magic isn't a new thing in phase 4 but the classic loki variant does have a slightly different skill set than his other loki variants this loki never spent time focusing on his fighting abilities and rather devoted all his studies to just his magic it makes him probably the last one picked for dodgeball but he's also a much more powerful sorcerer than our classic loki ended up making a whole entire asgard to distract eliath in that battle which is just an incredible move i'm sad that we've most likely seen the last of classic loki in the mcu but he'll definitely be missed does anyone view monica rambo a little differently now like in one division we were rooting for her because she seemed like the only one dedicated to saving wanda from her own actions but now seeing wanda in multiverse of madness i kind of think it's weird monica spent so much time redeeming wanda and trying to turn her back into a good guy but i guess i can't complain too much because that attitude of wanting to save wanda from herself and from the government led to monica getting her powers in the first place through pure force of will even despite warnings monika dove right back into the hex and emerged with a new set of powers the marvel's movie will explore her different abilities more but i'm excited to see this ability unfold seeing spectrum fight with all sort of light variations and whatnot would be awesome alright here's a fun question if you had the choice would you rather have super speed like tommy maximoff or specialty psionics like billy maximoff see that's tough for me i'd love the ability to master my brain muscles and use that for a variety of different reasons like telekinesis but on the other hand super speed makes life so much easier when you have to go to the store or go out to get something anyways i think both of them are pretty powerful and they certainly helped wanda fight off bad guys well they helped out in our universe in earth838 the kids just kind of whined about ice cream or something and it's unclear if they have powers there but anyways the tommy and billy we saw in one division were fake but their powers seemed very real tommy was a speedster and billy was not only growing to become a powerful psionic like his mom but could also see visions of what was happening in other places if given a chance these two together could be the most powerful young avengers members but now who knows what's going to happen to them i want to see them back because i want to see their powers develop over time you know i just hope they have better luck controlling and using their abilities more so than their mom and uncle things didn't go well for those two yeah someone had to be last and while i could have left kingo off this list entirely i just couldn't for one his power set may just be energy blasts but they seem like the stronger form of energy blasts compared to what we've already seen in the mcu and also i had to talk about how kingo not being there for the finale of eternals was extremely confusing why did the actor get all ripped and jacked if he didn't have any big fighting scenes in the film it's just weird that kingo didn't show up at the end and then everyone just accepted him hanging out with him in the aftermath look i love kingo but i want to see more from his powers and his skill sets hopefully in the sequel any certain power or skill set i left off that you wanted to see included i thought of including the watcher because his power to sit on the sidelines and never ever interfere unless it's a season finale i thought was cool but i just couldn't fit him in what do you guys think let me know thanks for watching cbr
