[Music] good morning every nation in one and welcome to all our online viewers if you're joining us for the very first time this morning we'd like to give you a very warm welcome we trust that you'll enjoy this service and just be blessed by the presence of God this morning my name is Renee and this is Nathan hi everybody good morning we are a church if you join us for the first time we are a church that loves and honors God we love people we make disciples and we transform society and we just know it today you're going to be so blessed by the service because we've got a special service in in store for you and today's a very special day and I mean really I think you know why today's a special day right is because today is Father's Day absolutely we really we honor and we value the men in our lives and we just want to say happy Father's Day to all of you and I know so many of you are possibly having to wear a cap like Nathan is wearing because I find in my home that my husband is wearing his cap all the time so Nathan Gianna tell me a little bit of more about that cap it's because our here is still on restriction level 4 it's in lockdown it's illegal to we to walk outside without the cap on at this point in time so if you see me with a cap please no it's not because I love cap so much it's because it's illegal for my hair to be out in the open ok now I understand why posture Gillian and David and the rest of the guys when we run Zoo meetings they're all wearing this P cap but you know I'm just too back to Father's Day we really we do value our dads and dads are the strength and the foundation of our homes when our fathers are not there or when fathers are not in place we find that the home scramble so we do honor our dads and we want to say happy Father's Day and yeah Clippy pray and it is going to worship father we just want to celebrate you as the greatest dad ever you are ever father you're the source of our identity the source of our protection the source of our provision you're a miracle maker you're our way maker god we just want to give you glory and honor today as we celebrate the men that you have put in our lives those who teach us guide us and lead us Lord God so we just ask for a special blessing on all the father's today Lord and as we go into worship we delight ourselves in you as we bring praise and honor to your name in Jesus name Amen [Music] [Music] [Music] to me slowly [Music] Smurfs [Music] see mustache styling what's up Nancy [Music] Oh fine and [Music] Oh [Music] [Music] [Music] yes is [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] Oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] Oh [Applause] [Music] Oh [Music] [Music] father God we just thank you for the opportunity and the privilege that we have to be able to worship you we thank you that even though we are in our separate homes today that we can come together in spirit and in truth and one Accord as one body of believers your bride your church we come together this morning to worship you to lift up your name to honor you and to say that you have the name above all names that you are truly our Lord and Savior and we're so grateful for this opportunity to worship you we thank you that as we go into communion now that the reality of the cross would become a reality in our lives today and we pray that you would just bless this time in Jesus name Amen Emily as we go into a time of communion this morning I want to read to you from 1 Corinthians 11 it says for apart unto you what I received from the Lord Himself on the Knox who was betrayed the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it then he broke it in pieces and he said this is my body which is given to you do this in remembrance of me in the same way he took the cup of wine after supper saying this cup is the new covenant between God and His people an agreement confirmed in his blood in my blood do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it for every time you eat this bread and drink this cup you're announcing the Lord's death until he comes again Jesus tells us whenever we do this we remember the work of the cross whenever we partake of communion we are remembering the work that he did on the cross what it means to us what does it mean to us today we had on our pastors and stof group what's a group the sweetness the most beautiful short video and I just want to share a little bit with you because it was exactly about this when Jesus died on the cross after having gone through so much right at the end he said it is finished and that Greek word is tetelestai it is finished and in those days the word tasted a style as we say today this finish we actually had three different meanings the was a business reference which means your date is fully paid so if someone said to someone else treated Celeste that means your date is fully paid it was also a quarter term to say your sentence is fully served and thirdly it was a military term which means the battle is fully won and that was that's what Jesus was saying on the cross when he died and said it is finished he was saying tetelestai your date of sin is fully paid he did it for us your judgment of sin is fully served Jesus did it for us and the battle is fully won Jesus won the battle for us he won the victory for us we now walk in that victory because he did it for us so as we take communion this morning together I just want you to remember tetelestai it is done it is finished we walk in that victory that Jesus died for we walk in health we walk in freedom we walk in communion with God in relationship with God that is the greatest gift any human being can ever have to be reconciled to God so let us remember that as we partake of the communion this morning father we thank you for your body Jesus the Jew Jesus you bro your body broke for us on the cross and as we just take this bread this morning we thank you for your sacrifice and your love for us [Music] and Jesus we thank you for the blood that you said you did it on our behalf for us in place of us so that we can have victory and we just remember today the victory that you have won for us [Music] thank you Father for this incredible privilege incredible joy incredible victory this incredible relationship that we can have with you till a star it is finished amen father we just want to say thank you for your goodness and your kindness and your faithfulness what an awesome God we serve and so this morning as we prepare our hearts for the tithe and our offering I just want to mention one person who really plays a really important part in my life in my spiritual journey and her name's auntie Margaret Beattie and many of you will know her she's part of our congregation she's part of our prayer teams and you know whenever I meet auntie Margaret the first thing she would say to me is god is good god is faithful and she always takes me up to the very nature and the character of who God is because you see how you perceive God will determine how you encounter God and how you experience God and how you receive from God and I want to take you up to that place where you know that our God is good and that our God is faithful and His Word says that he has never forsaken the righteous or seen his seed begging for bread and so father this morning we just want to say thank you Lord God that you are a good god you're a faithful God and Lord you are the one that gives us the ability to make wealth Lord God your original design was always to bless us father God and so father I pray your blessing on each and every person who gives up the substance and the resources the this morning and Lord God I just thank you that they will see the harvest in Jesus name you know we're so grateful to all our partners and our members and just you know for the body of Christ how you have given so richly I'm during this time of crisis we've seen families being blessed with food parcels we've seen people's rent being paid and I just want to honor you as a congregation and as the body of Christ for having such generous hearts the Lord bless you [Music] you give light [Music] the seas bound swish [Music] [Music] I'm so happy that my dad is with us for Father's Day weekend she just talked a little bit about by the legacy for father and I'm so grateful if my father still alive and we've gathered around the table just to talk a little bit about what it means to have a father and and how are we going to be father's with you one day what are the things you want to take food as told in which we do that and of course the girls are all important to that and there's nothing more powerful than a daughter and a father in the relationship so part of what I want to talk about is well just you know how do we stay connected but this part of connect with each other yeah I thought maybe you guys gonna also some questions and we'll take it from then let's see what happens just keep it clean I'll be on camera [Laughter] [Music] it's a girl first so I have a question for you what is the greatest lesson that you were so grateful that he passed on to your son well I had a great day and he was my year and then I shot yourself I must improve on you and that's what I tried to do i press i did a good job senior popular great job now what I said to my two sons Gillian and Undine they must improve what I achieved in life and that was never bother you think well this one is didn't wanna do it they must pull himself up by the bootstraps and they do the only thing in achieve that which they want to in life I always say to them I don't mind if they fail but as long as I felt trying to do let me say 132 and I still love them even if I fail but I know in my back of my mind they did a piece that's important to me I tried to pass it on to the grandsons as well I love you I always say even if you don't miss your old life as long as you Yogi's trying to do yes make me Wow oh my sons as I said what are you achieved in life and Wow my dream in materialize [Music] reflecting on your Parenthood was the one thing you wish you did better I think probably Leslie Moore and Leslie did I think I was too thick to give a response or to give my lesson and then many times I think I misunderstood my children while they're trying to say something I hold on part of my mistake is of darish is he's trying to be the teacher too much and no father just being there to listen I wish I could do that determine a chance time would put in there I wish I wish you don't learn that if I might add to that he inherited that from me because if you ask me a question before you finish your question I've given the answer me and I butt in and I don't get I didn't hear the question from me because I answered you already and then the answers wrong and they're here so that for me was always too I think if you want to really connect with your own children so far I think you will need to this critic and that's what we made him do so I'm sorry guys for not connecting the cheaper has deeper mindlessly T look I was not getting off that high horse of a father trying to teach and being a father that's paid to support and listen yeah your heart not just what you're saying and trying to correct it way a bit too much all power father's inability focusing on that [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] my goodness I think none of you guys know like this but see you later you know when you know that you've passed on something it's your children yeah but my father's become your focus I'm saying well maybe there's good things as well like you for the generic offense it's an emotional journey just to say this is this is what I'm like that's really interesting I'm particularly Oh what about you're not particular like more and more as you get older to see the good things but yeah I think I think now facing maybe the change being confronted with some of these things as a challenge if they could be older because you so in the habit of what's the one thing is well it comes to mind that I wish I could he left my life as a father when they were also means in the house the one thing that stands out like a sore thumb if I would have spent more time with my children you know as a Pentecostal posture you had to spin ninety-nine percent of your time with the church we used to say we have got no time even if they want to play any game we got no time we were just busy in the church if it's with us and I spend more time with him with my church congregation then spending time with my children at once they asked me a question their time to eat part of your congregation and then hit me like a 10-pound hammer because we were trying to spend time the Lord's work first and in a family second well in my case a little time was me and that is be chuckle earned but too late and we had to change my way of thinking and Gillian I've proven and andreas proven my two sons that they improve on the day and I look up to man I admire him I said well I wish I could have done it I can remember I bought him a snooker ball and they play just look and they said their complaint with us and I have a tiny you get a message and then I make that once or twice I played with him and that is what I see if I to relive that life support at home how to spin more time now I'm not aged I spend more time the family ups and else all mostly the glass spend more time with my grandchildren and wish I could know if it wasn't for the scope 19 so then I will try to make up my grandchildren we I couldn't have which I never did [Music] good morning everybody it's Father's Day today and I want to wish all the dads a happy Father's Day I really hope you could spoil today hint hint kids the video answer that you saw just before I came up really reflects the message that I want to speak about today which is the legacy of a father you had a quick window in the life of a David's family and you saw three generations are on the table and some real questions being asked we often have those conversations and the hope is that I would leave a legacy for my children that they can take into their lives so we ask those questions to see how we doing so I want to talk about the importance of a dad in the home and please if your mother or child don't switch off because this is going to bless you as well most commercials and sitcoms cause father's as the family idiot someone who cannot even take care of the children if mom's not around who can't do a load of washing without specific instructions for mom okay maybe that last one is me but the point is still fathers are more than just a joke in society with the home sadly many men today have neglected himself to see themselves as an important figure and have not taken up their responsibility to love and protect true masculinity is not is in short supply and I don't mean that kind of Rambo macho man masculinity I'm talking about the man who knows who he is and use his physical and emotional strength to protect the love and cover through strong men men knows who they are or they know who they are and they don't feel intimidated and they neither need to dominate to feel respected they truly love serve and protect without conditions I hope that's who you are for our Father in Heaven demonstrates that kind of love and we'll see from scripture how Jesus praising but let's look at some specifics some stats in South Africa in South Africa almost 62 percent of the children goes to bed without a father in the homes that's a big big number homes where the father is more likely to experience four times the greater risk for poverty Chand are more likely to have behavioral problems the risk of infant mortality is doubled boys are more likely to be imprisoned children are more likely to commit crime girls are seven times more likely to fall pregnant as a teen that's that struck me children are more likely to face abuse or neglect typically from my uncle or stepfather more likely to have drugs and alcohol abuse there are two times more likely to suffer from obesity and two times more likely to have high school dropouts it is clear that the absence of dads in the home has direct impact on the well-being of not just the children but the family as a whole Jesus is telling the story to the Pharisees of the prodigal son which I really like to refer to as the prodigal father because the stories nor is not about the son but the father's response to us as particles he tells the story in the back of the Pharisees challenging him because he surrounded himself with sinners and so he tells the story in this conduct would you find with me Luke chapter 15 and we'll read from verse 11 and we'll read the whole parable for the sake of understanding Jesus continued there was a man who's had two sons the younger one said to his father father give me my share of the estate so he divided his property between them noticed all of them not long after that the youngest son got together all year and set off to a distant country and they squandered his wealth in wild living after he had spent everything there was a severe famine in in the whole country and he began to be in need so he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country who sent him into the fields to feed pigs he longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating but no one gave him anything when he came to his senses he said how many of my father's hired servants have food to spare and Here I am starving to death I will sit out and go back to my father and say to him father I have sinned against heaven enough and against you I am no longer worthy to be called your son make me like one of your hired servants so he got up and went to his son so I say he got up and went to his father but while he was still a long way off his father saw him ins and was filled with compassion for him and he ran to his son threw his arms around him and kissed him the son said to him father I have sinned against heaven and against you I'm no longer worthy to be called your son but the father said to his servant quick bring the beast bring the best robe and put it on him put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet bring the fatted calf and kill it let us have a feast and celebrate for this son of mine was dead and is alive again he was lost and is found so they began to celebrate meanwhile the oldest son was in the field when he came near to his Hut to the house he heard the music and the dancing so he called one of the servants and asking what is going on your brother has come home he replied and your father has killed the fatted calf button called because he has a impact safe and sound the older brother became angry and refused to go in so the so his father went out and pleaded with him but he answered his father look all these years I've I've been slaving for you and that's a key he's been slain he has Mina's son is I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders he yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends but when is when the son of yours when the son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes came home you killed a fetid call for him the father said my son you are always with me and everything I have is yours but we had to celebrate and be glad because this brother of yours s was dead and is alive again he was lost and is found again father help us as we go into your word to really hear your heart to see how you feel towards us in Jesus name Amen Jesus had two purposes that I can just focus on today for coming to the other the first one is to die for us as sinners and did rescue us from eternal damnation but the second purpose is to introduce the father to us and to show us to demonstrate our we ought to relate to the Father the first purpose gives us the platform and the ability to come into his presence with boldness because of the blood of Jesus the son in this context represents the the rebellious person who lives in a rebellion against God the Father represents the father in heaven and how you patiently waiting and for our return as Protocol's as sons who our daughters was rejected him in this honored him and God waits to restore us the others brother represents the Pharisees the the people who are judgmental the people are self-righteous I hope that you you and I are not one of those Jesus was accused of of being a friend of sinners and these Pharisees were looking down the nose and his sinners and say hard mixed with him there was self righteous and Jesus tells the story of how we ought to be glad to be seen with sinners and yet he was a friend of sinners he didn't love live like a sinner beloved we need to be like Jesus we framed those out in the world without failing our Father a few points of interest I want to raise do you explain the culture in the context typically a Jewish son would receive his inheritance and his father's death the fact that this young man instigated the division of his family estate is a sign of his rebellion and total disregard for his father's authority in fact he was basically saying teach that you as good as dead to me what a dishonouring situation secondly when a Jewish boy eat the food of the food is forbidden to eat you know his hit rock bottom so as he's eating or trying to eat the the part of the pig you know that this young man really has come to the end of himself and sometimes we need to get to the end of ourselves to truly Co need to be reunited to our Father that's the last thing I wanted to mention about as a background a father a Jewish father never ran and for this father too ran to his son to pick up his little rookie and ran to his son was to show to all the world that it doesn't matter how filthy and how smelly he's mixing with pigs I'm not just gonna run him by I'm gonna embrace him and kiss this dirty son of mine isn't that a beautiful picture our father comes to us and restore us and touch us in a dirty fallen state and he says I'm receiving you back if you and I are willing to come back just as we are unclean and let him clean us let him touch us and I want to talk a little bit the remaining time about the restoration process that his father takes his son through forgiveness without what a restoration is really empty and many people are so happy to be forgiven but they're never restored they never step into their identity and their destiny I pray that as I preach this message that you would be stirred up in your heart to step into your identity as a son and daughter of God and this step in your eye destiny as a son and daughter of God and this step into your sense of belonging verse 22 says the father says bring forth the best robe the best robe was reserved for the elder son this is why the the Jade Jacob's sons were stopped safe with Joseph receiving the base row it was Reubens lot to get the base row but Jacob gave it to Joseph this father says I'm not just really story as a son but I'm Mary story as the first son it's an amazing experience to be restored by God as if nothing no sin has been committed that's what God that's threes this is father that's his son and that's what God does to us his position as son has been restored the second thing is father that's in Westerly - he puts a ring on his finger and this symbolizes the father restoring his destiny in those years this the father would give the family signet ring to a son that has been matured was able to trade and do business on the family's behalf with his father we giving him a ring he says I'm trusting you again I'm giving you a destiny back I'm giving you authority then live out your calling to live out your destiny and stepping to as a fully restored son of this house what an awesome picture and the fair is just understood exactly what Jesus meant by this parable when he said ie a father puts his ring back he see the Pharisees wants us righteous self-righteous people wants us to perform first before we given identity in a distance but God our praise from his premise from his bigness from his abundance from his provision not our performance that's the nature of God and then lastly the father says put sandals on his feet this is really blesses and he's affirming his son in those days servants went about bare feet sons children of of offer hassled actually were wearing shoes and by putting sandals on his feet he says flung even though he came back asking to be a servant I'm restoring you in a place of belonging you belong at the table of my my household I'm restoring you not just not just as a servant i restoring you as a son and i'm affirming your sense i've been longing yeah it is an awesome thing to reflect on the nature of god in this way in this parable and i'm sorry that the pharisees didn't see what jesus was trying to say because this message wasn't just for the prodigal son or for the sinners out there this message was an invitation for the self righteous like you and i could be it is a place where we can come and say this is this God who will loves us as a father from this story we see that the father helps shape and restore identity the father helps shape and restore destiny and the father firms a sense of belonging and you say you belong here everybody needs to belong somewhere and we have the opportunity to say God make me part of your family so many children and adults in society who don't know who they are and and what they meant to be doing try to find life and meaning in life by themselves but fathers define you father's has the responsibility to call that your destiny fathers has the ability to say you belong here it's the worst thing for father this say I don't record yes my son anymore and maybe you've heard those words from your father I want you to know that the father of heaven the Father in Heaven does not reject like that the father never says I want you to become an effect he's waiting it does separating for you return for you to say I'm coming back to you there was two lost sons in the story I'm not gonna be here but wrong to talk about the letter one the the oldest brother both of them were lost the one knew he was lost in the other one was too self-righteous I recognize he was lost my praise there as dirty as we are as a lost prodigal son that will come to our senses both as unsaved people and even as Christians to say why should I live like us why should i mix with peace when I'm I can be a child in the house of God I want to pray for those of you who have not experienced the acceptance the definition of identity and destiny from your dad we all have imperfect fathers and we are imperfect fathers this is not a self-righteous statement but wounds are real and sometimes we lack what we needed because our fathers weren't there for us I'd like to pray that you would receive your heavenly father and return to him with a heart of humility and say God I'm back and I'm not just talking about unsafe people I'm talking about those of you who've been saved but never been restored in those areas never British stored in your identity never been restored in your destiny and never feel a sense of belonging in the house of God in the presence of God in the kingdom of heaven let's pray together father we pray that you would heal every heart every broken heart and that you would fill the void that is plagued us for so many years whether we min with every woman with his sons and daughters young people alike we know that if we don't turn to we will never be whole no matter how much we try to make up for our voids in our lives with performance it's ultimately you define us it's ultimately you who call it our identity who we are and we are called children of God for those of us who accepted you we found identity and purpose in you and we find a sense of affirmation belonging in you God will receive your love right now father we receive the ring we receive the Rope received the sandals right now wherever we might be we step into that their identity and we stop in this hour rejecting our restoration to you we're not going to earn that we simply can receive it because of your grace and your mercy amen if you prayed that prayer and responded to the father for the first time really it would be a joy to speak to you and to continue to have a conversation you know what that means would you call the number on the screen and make a contact with one of our pastors one of our leaders they'd be overjoyed to spend some time with you if it's the second time or subsequent time that you've played a pretty penny Christian for a while but you don't feel restored I'm asking you not to walk alone but to connect with a small group leader so that you can walk in freedom and be restored in these areas we'll all need that level of accountability have a happy Father's Day dad and I trust that you enjoy your families god bless you so know you were either inspired by the family moment we had with pastor Gillian or were you provoked to yearning for a family moment like that not every one of us has a father that can so easily have open and transparent discussions yeah pastor Gillian thank you so much for inviting us into home and into your world we thank you for your transparency i I think all of us have been inspired by what you had to say and so with that being said maybe you sitting at home and you are longing for family you long for spiritual family and you are not yet connected I want to encourage you get connected you'll see a number pop up on our screens and we want you to get connected it's so important to be involved in a spiritual family as well as maybe you have got some pre needs maybe you need somebody to just pray with you you know you feel it down or something is really triggered of something in you and you just need somebody to pray with you our pastors all ready and eagerly waiting to be able to do that so you'll see the number pop up on our screens now Nathan even as we journey through this very uncertain times and we're trying to navigate through this we want to encourage you stay connected our small groups are running during the week we're meeting online there's absolutely no reason for any of us to be disconnected during this time and so let us um yeah just let's get connected so thank you so much for watching and we hope that you will join us again next
