[Music] hi there and welcome to watch it played my name is Rodney Smith and in this video we're going to learn the 1 to 4 player game ever del designed by James a Wilson and published by Starling Games who helped sponsor this video in the hidden realm under the sprawling branches of the ever tree the winter season ends and the forest creatures gather to build their cities but you'll have to work quick because winter will be here again before you know it and you'll need to have the best town of forest animals and buildings before it arrives so join me at the table and let's learn how to play to set up place the board in the center of the table and then put this ever tree which can be easily built and unbuilt for storage later on to the stump area of the board here the twigs resin pebbles and berry pieces you'll set in piles along the banks of the river on their indicated spots now since I'm gonna have to move the board around I've placed some of these in small containers that I have but when you're playing you can just put the pieces directly on the board itself nearby in these four positions you'll then place what are known as the basic event tiles by the board you'll also set these point and occupied tokens that I've placed inside of some game trays that I have and you'll find links in the description of these if you'd like to pick some up for yourself the cards with this back are the special events shuffle and then deal four of them face up putting them onto the branches here in the Everett tree you then return all the rest of the cards back to the bots the currents with this back are the forest cards and you'll shuffle these dealing one face up onto each of these marked clearings unless it's a two-player game which will be setting up in that case you only deal three leaving one of them empty and the rest of the cards you can return to the box then have each player pick a color and take the six matching workers keeping two in front of themself and the other four they'll then place into the tree one will go into this spring area another by summer and then the final to go into this autumn section the cards with this back make up the main deck so give these a good shuffle next now whoever is the most humble person at the table will be the first player when I was playing with my son he said well don't worry about dad you'd be the first player and I thought well darn it now you have to be the first player because you are the most humble if no one can agree because maybe they're all just so humble at the table just pick someone randomly then deal five cards to the first player and in clockwise order deal six cards to the next person and if you had a third player they get seven cards and the fourth would get eight next deal eight more faced up into this area of the board known as the meadow and then set the rest the deck face down into the ever tree ever dell comes in both a standard and collector's edition I'm using the standard components in this video but the collector's edition has metal coins wouldn't occupy tokens wouldn't rats and a deluxe die for the solo game and it also includes the legends extra extra and rug warts expansion but otherwise the rest is the same and that's the setup in everyday layers we'll be gathering resources to build their own city full of critters and buildings in order to produce the most productive and gosh darn cute settlement because I mean seriously look at this artwork I've got a barge toad here and a little husband mouse and a crow teacher I mean this is it's adorable what was I saying right you're trying to get the most points and win the game is played over a series of turns starting with the first player and then going clockwise around and around the table and on your turn you'll perform one of three possible actions so let's start by looking at one of them placing a worker to do this pick one of the workers in front of you and put it onto any available action space these will show a pop print in the middle and there are two different types exclusive which have a ring all the way around them and shared which have an open ring you'll notice this one is not connected here on the bottom only one worker can be on an exclusive spot at a time well any number of workers can end up in a shared location even several from the same player after placing a worker you gain the benefits of that location and there are a variety of different types so let's take a look at them first though notice I've removed the tree from the board and I'll do this every now and then during the video when it will make it easier for me to reach and point of things like all of these action spaces just below the river here these are known as the basic actions and each has symbols representing the rewards that you get for placing your worker there this here is the symbol for twigs so if you put a worker here you collect three twigs from the supply and place them in front of you in addition to the twig symbols this action space also shows the symbol for a card and any time you see this unless you're told otherwise the card is drawn from the top of this deck so going here you would get two twigs and one card the action space here gives you two resin which you take from the supply and this one gives you one resin and a card you can go here to gain two cards from the deck and then this symbol represents a point token which you'd collect from the supply and put in front of yourself this symbol means that you gained a pebble well going here means you get a card and a berry and going to this action space means you just get a single berry keep in mind the resources in the game are not meant to be limited if you ever run out of one just use a suitable replacement as well you can never have more than eight cards at a time if an action would let you draw more when you already have eight just ignore that part of the action even action would tell you to give cards to an opponent and they're already holding eight then any extras you were supposed to give them should instead be discarded during the game cards you would discard it should be placed in this area and they should always be put facedown unseen by the other players another place you can assign workers is to these forest locations resolving their effects this one in particular shows the symbol for any resource so going here lets you pick any combination of any two resources if space has this forest symbol by it then it can only be used in a four player game this means in our two-player game no one can ever go here but if you do have four players just know the same player can't have two of their workers on the same forest location this would not be allowed this is another area for workers known as The Haven here you can discard any number of cards and for every two that you get rid of you collect any one resource so for example I could toss three cards out and then gain a pebble next we'll talk about destiny and cards as we'll see later during the game you'll be putting cards face up in front of you and some will have action spaces for you to place one of your own workers which then gives you the benefit listed here below it now if a card shows an open sign like this one does then any player can put a worker on this card even an opponent but if another player does use one of your cards like this then you take one point from the supply for the next action again remember over the course of the game you'll be placing cards face-up in front of you these will have different symbols in this area here and once you have as many symbols as the type and amount listed by one of these event tokens you can claim it with an action by putting one of your workers here you then take that token and set it beside you now when something shows this point symbol with a value inside of it it's the points that will be worth at the end of the game so you don't take any point tokens for it also if later in the game you lose some of the cards that had provided the symbols you needed to gain that event don't worry you don't have to give the event back in the tree itself are for special event cards like this one to claim these you need to satisfy any conditions listed at its top which are the names of cards you must already have played face-up in front of you for example to claim this one it says I need the inn and the bird which are these two cards I can then put a worker here and take this special event you then resolve any other instructions it might have for example this one says you can place up to three berries that you might have onto this card and we'll say that I decide to place two but no matter its instructions it will then tell you here how you can gain points for this special event at the end of the game for example this will give me two points for every berry I placed on here so that means this will be worth four points at the end of the game at the bottom of the board here you'll find the journey spots but you can only put a worker in one of these if you're in the autumn season and we'll see how seasons pass a little bit later but in short you'll know you're in autumn because all of your workers will have already been removed from this area of the tree to go into any one of these spaces you must discard a number of cards equal to the value of the space that you want to go into and again pay attention to the rings around these action spaces because any number of workers can go into this space gaining two points each at the end of the game but only one can go into each of these three spots and those are all the ways you can place a worker as an action and workers you use will remain on their spaces until you're allowed to take them back which we'll learn about later but first it's time to explain another type of action you can take on your turn instead called playing a card to do this you pay a cards cost and then place it face up in front of you on the table the card can either come from your hand or be any one of the eight face up here in the meadow you should think of all the cards here as extras that each player has access to until someone pays its cost and then takes it for themselves the cost of play a card is shown in this area of it here and will be a certain number of resources in this case three berries where in this case it would cost one twig one resin and one pebble there are two main types of cards critters and constructions and they are either considered common or unique as indicated here you can have multiple copies of the same common card but never more than one copy of a unique card within your city speaking of which the cards you play in front of you are considered your city at most you can have a total of 15 here though other cards you might collect like this event do not count against this limit once you reach your maximum you cannot add new cards to your city or choose to remove some to make room for new ones unless an effect lets you remove the card so you really want to think carefully about how you construct your city if you ever play a card directly from the meadow then after adding it to your city replace it with a new one from the deck and if you're ever told to draw central cards from the meadow take all of them first and then replace the missing cards with new ones I've mentioned that the cost of play a card is shown here but some critters can be played for free if you have the construction listed here already in play for example if I did have the inn in my city I could ignore this cost when playing the N key / after performing the action to add a critter for free in this way you then put one of these occupied tokens over the constructions space here to remind you that this building can not be used again to add another of these critters for free and if something would later remove this critter from play you do not take off this occupied token every card you add to your city will give you the benefits listed here and this symbol will suggest the type of benefit that it provides for example this is known as a tan traveler and you resolve its effect once at the moment it's played whereas this is a blue governance effect and it gives you bonuses each time you fulfill its requirements throughout the game red destinations as we saw give you new spots to place your workers or for an opponent's workers to go into if it has an open sign and its abilities will activate at the moment the worker is added also remember to gain a point if another player uses one of your buildings a green production effect activates when it is played but may get activated again at other times during the game as we'll see later then finally you have the purple prosperity cards and these will provide you with a certain number of points at the end of the game based on your city at that time in fact many of the cards you play will provide you with points as shown here but again these you only get once the game is over we're not going to go through all of the cards and their effects in this video as there's a great variety of them and their rules are all explained on the cards themselves but the game also has an index in the back of the rulebook with additional information on each one if you need some additional assistance the main thing to understand about playing a new card is the order in which to resolve things first if you're going to use another cards ability as the new card is played for example like this innkeeper which allows you to reduce the cost paid for new critter then this resolves first which actually as it says here discards it from play now it's important to do this first because if your city had been full this effect would give you room for the new card you want to add then you pay for the new card and if it had come from the meadow draw a new one to replace it the new card is then put into play in front of you and if it's a fact removes another card from your city then that other card is removed just before the new one is placed you then resolve the newly played cards effect if any and then you resolve any other effects that might be triggered as a result for example this shopkeeper gives us a berry for playing a critter so now we know all about placing a worker or playing a card as an action for your turn and this brings us to the final type of action you can instead take called preparing for a season but you can only take this action once all the workers that you had in front of you have been placed on the board now if you want you can still play cards as your actions but once you're ready to prepare for the next season here's what you'll do first take back all of your workers that you use during the last season from wherever they're whether they're on the board or off of it like this one then look at this area of the tree now take any of your workers from here that are in the leftmost season so here that would mean we take them from spring you will now have this new worker for use for the rest of the game you then also resolve any of the printed effects in that season in spring this symbol means that you activate the ability of all green production symbol cards in your city and you can do this in any order if you just entered summer than in addition to gaining a new worker you also draw two cards from the meadow if you're a prepare for season action had you entering autumn you take two workers from here and again activate all your green production cards players will very often be in different seasons at the same time for example I might enter autumn while my opponent is still taking actions in summer and that's perfectly fine however once a player cannot or wishes not to take any more actions during their autumn season then they'll leave their workers where they are and just pass from that point on only the rest of the players will continue taking turns as normal until they get to the end of their autumn season but during that time anyone who has already passed cannot be given cards or resources hey that should be passed to them or instead just to started that said if a player who has passed has a construction card with an action space and an open side any other player still in the game can still put their worker there and resolve that space however once everyone has passed it's time for final scoring first add up all the points showing on the right-hand side of each of the cards in your city along with any point tokens you collected also gain any points from prosperity card bonuses that you might be owed and events that you collected finally check to see if you have any workers on the journey area of the board and collect their points the player with the most points wins and in the case of a tie the tied player who achieved the most events wins if there's still a tie the tied player with the most left over resources wins and if there's still a tie the tied players share the victory there are also included rules for solo play which you'll find here listed in the rulebook but those I'll leave for you to discover on your own there are also expansions that have been released adding new cards rules a variety of critters to the game but otherwise that's everything you need to know to play ever Dell if you have any questions but anything you saw here feel free to put them in the comments below and I'll gladly answer them as soon as I get a chance you'll also find forests for
