Equipping the Saints for Christ-Centered Prayer Counseling Pt 3 - Joe Sweet

i'm calling this christ-centered prayer counseling part three and this is designed to equip you equip the saints to minister to the saints to minister to people in need harvest like we've never seen before is at the door all over the world and to him who has ears to hear let him hear god is telling us to become equipped and to be ready to minister to people somebody say amen and um so that's what this is about and i want to encourage you if you missed part one or part two they're on youtube they're on our website shekinahworship.com it's called christ-centered prayer counseling part one part two today's part three i think that'll conclude this but the the intention of this teaching is to equip you to have tools and resources so that you can share with people that come to christ they could be brand new believers they could be somebody who's been a believer for 20 or 30 years but we need to be able to help one another to counsel one another to help guide people to get free from addictions free from demons free from train wrecks from accidents harm life's falling apart and all the answers are in the words in red in our book all the answers are there so anyway i'm going to read from matthew chapter seven it's what we're looking at is matthew chapter five six and seven it's called the sermon on the mount and uh those three chapters are one discourse given by the lord jesus christ at the end of those three chapters this is what jesus says matthew chapter 7 verse 24 therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine i underlined that in my text the sayings of mine that he's referring to is the sermon on the mount chapters five six and seven he's specifically saying whoever hears these sayings he began with the beatitudes blessed are the poor in spirit so forth whoever hears these sayings of mine and does them i will liken him to a wise man or a wise woman who built his house on the rock and the rain descended the floods came and the winds blew and the and they beat on the house and it did not fall for it was founded on the rock but everyone who hears these sayings of mine again these sayings is repeated he's referring to this specific sermon on the mount and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand the rains descended the floods came and the winds blew and beat on that house and it fell and great was its fall so notice that jesus didn't say that if you hear my sayings and do them the storm will not come to your house he didn't say that the storm comes to everybody to those that obey and those that don't obey the difference is for those that hear and obey the storm comes and goes the house is still standing and so that house speaks of our life and these are the words of jesus we're in the season right now of haggai chapter 2 where god said yet once again and i will shake all nations that's been happening since last year he said i'm going to shake the heaven the earth and the sea and the dry land but i'm going to fill my temple with glory and he said in haggai chapter 2 he said they're going to come to the desire of all nations which is jesus so god's doing three things he's shaking everything that can be shaken and in case someone's wondering well that's an old testament verse it's quoted in hebrews chapter 12 and applied to the new testament age yet once again i will shake all that can be shaken and in context it says we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken so there's three things god's doing he's allowing everything to be shaken in the heaven the earth the sea and the dry land volcanoes earthquakes tsunamis the weather the governments the military social political economic everything will be shaken then god says they will come to the desire of all nations which is jesus that's harvest the shaking is to prepare people for harvest to come to christ to shake people out of their illusion of security in anything but christ people that trust in money trust in their own ability trust in their health trust in their finances they trust in the government they trust in this they trust in that god said i'm going to allow all of that to be shaken and then he says they're going to come the desire of all nations which is christ and he said in this temple his body i will fill this temple the latter temple is us we are the latter temple come on somebody i will fill with glory and this will be a greater glory than the former temple god says in haggai 2 the silver is mine the gold is mine and in this place where his glory is there will be peace so god's going to raise up a people who hear his word they're going to receive his kingdom to receive his kingdom means to hear his word and apply it not just hear it and believe it hear it believe it and apply it practice it and it takes practice how many know it takes practice and god gives us lots of opportunities to practice so uh there will be those in the midst of the shaking that are receiving the words of god and they're not shaking because hebrews 12 when he quotes haggai chapter 2 he said therefore let us we're receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken therefore let us receive grace that we may serve god acceptably with reverence and godly fear there's a fear of the lord again the fear of the lord means to hate evil love righteousness tremble at his word and do what he says that's the fear of the lord it's a biblical definition means to hate what's evil love what's righteous tremble at what god says pay attention to it and do it so he said let us receive grace that we may receive uh we're receiving a kingdom that can't be shaken therefore let us receive grace that we may serve him with godly fear amen means pay attention and do what he says so that's the context the nations are shaking right now they will continue to shake and we're in between birth pangs covet was a birth peg the election was a birth pang we're in between birth pangs and sometimes in between birth pangs we get the illusion that maybe it's over now it's not anyone that's had a baby knows or anyone that's watched their wife have a baby you have a contraction and then there's a relief in between a contraction but only for a few minutes and then there's another contraction and when the contraction begin they might be nine or ten minutes apart and not as intense as they're going to be in a couple of hours when they're two minutes apart and very intense so we're in the the beginning of sorrows we're in that season now prior to the second coming of the lord jesus christ now if you look up in the greek the beginning of sorrows when jesus talked about the wars the earthquakes of tsunamis the rumors of wars all of that he said these are the beginnings of sorrows it said it's not the end yet now the word beginning of sorrows if you look it up in the greek it means literally it says birth pangs so something's being birthed and what's being birthed is sons and daughters of god that's what's being birthed and so the pressures that are coming on the earth are designed to shake us and identify any areas of our life that are not built on the word of god that's what the shakings are for and so have understanding that season that we're in this is very applicable to us jesus said whoever here's my these sayings of mine and dozen will be like a wise man who built his house on a rock the storms come the rains the winds and the flood now the rains will test the roof the winds will test the sidewalls the flood will test the foundation every part of our life will be tested but god said the man or the woman the boy or the girl the person who hears the words of jesus and does them is wise they will still be standing with god in their house with them come on so that's the context so we in the previous two messages christ centered prayer counseling we looked at matthew chapter 5. and i think we were we finished toward the end of matthew chapter 5. now what i want to say is this every crisis every need every issue that any believer could have the answer to it is found in matthew chapter 5 6 and 7. jesus said whoever hears these sayings and does them and as i said before this sermon on the mount has been referred to as the constitution of the kingdom of god and uh so when we have when our life seems to be falling apart that's what happens when storms come and those areas of our life seem to be shaking or turbulent or they're falling apart that's a red light on the dashboard that says we need service we need to plug it into the computer and tell it what part of the vehicle needs to be fixed oh it's a catalytic converter we got to replace that so in the same way when we're when tribulations and storms are coming we start shaking with them that's we say okay lord where are we missing let's open up let's read matthew 5 6 and 7 again i want to say this every believer can be a great counselor if you don't know what to do just start reading matthew 5 6 and 7 again the answers in there for the person you're trying to help okay let's finish with matthew chapter 5. we were in our previous session we were ending on matthew chapter 5 verse 43 and jesus said you've heard that it was said you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy but i say to you love your enemies bless those who curse you do good to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you that you may be sons of your father in heaven for he makes the sun rise on the evil and on the good and sins rain on the just and on the unjust now the word sons is we us there's four greek words translated sons in the new testament napieos party on technon and we ass i'm not sure i'm pronouncing those properly in in according to greek language but that's the best i can do but napieos refers to a toddler an inf an infant patteon refers to a young child a toddler young child technon refers to a not fully mature maybe a teenager and huios is a fully mature son who has demonstrated character and maturity so he's given the checkbook the car keys and the authority that's a we all son is what happened when jesus was baptized in the jordan river and the father said this is my son in whom i'm well pleased that what happened to jesus in when he came out of obscurity and he began his public ministry and the father said this is my son that's called adoption this wheel the greek word is huiothesia it means he was placed as a wealth son over the father's business that's what happened to jesus and that's what would happen in his day so uh it's called wheel thesia now that word was translated adoption when you read ephesians chapter one that says god has pre-destined to us to adoption it doesn't mean to be born again into the family of god that see in the west adoption means you go to an attorney you sign papers and you bring home a baby right and now they're part of your family that's not what the greek word adoption means it means you've been tested found faithful you have the character and the faithfulness now to be entrusted with the father's authority and his business and you're now placed as a fully mature son huiophysia that's that's what you and i are predestined to we're born again into the family of god so i've heard people say oh you're adopted you're in the family i get it that's all true but that's not what that verse is talking about it means god's predestine you to become like christ because he wants to give you and me more authority than we're walking in because he wants us to be able to open prison doors and set captives free and authority in the kingdom of god comes from two things are you ready it does come from understanding our identity and understanding that we're a new creature understanding our authority it does but that's only a small part of it it's a foundation but authority comes from faithfulness it also comes from love to the degree that we have god's love in us to that degree we have authority to the degree that we're faithful we have authority and jesus taught it that way he said well done good and faithful servant you were faithful over very little now have authority over 10 cities so authority isn't just by claiming it and reading the next book and getting a new formula we've got more authority it comes from being faithful in very little come on somebody and then the father says you know what i've been watching you you've been faithful you'll minister to one person you minister when nobody's looking you'll help i see what you're doing in secret you've been faithful now i'm going to put you over this amen anyway so he said uh we're to love our enemies so we're to bless those who curse us we're to do good to those that hate us pray for those who wrongfully uh spitefully use us and persecute us that we may be who us sons of your father for if you love those who love you what reward of you do not even the tax collectors do the same if you greet your brethren only what do you do more than others don't even the tax collectors do that therefore you shall be perfect just as your father in heaven is perfect it's hard to get out of that one when he says just as your father in heaven is yes if it just said you should be perfect we could come up with our definition of what perfect was but he said like our father and now jesus did also say that we're commanded to love one another as he loved us so that's what we were looking at now the words of jesus in red his word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path do you agree here's what first john 2 verse 9 and 10 says whoever says he's in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness until now he who loves his brother abides in the light and there's no cause for stumbling in him so this is where we were finishing on this in our last message the problems that come to us relationally difficult not only when we when we fall into a snare and we're not operating according to the kingdom of god in our relationships not only does it make things difficult this way but when we're not relating to people this way it affects our relationship with god if i'm not loving you the way the lord tells me to i have hindrance in my relationship with him so he says if we say we love our brother but we hate him we say we're in the light but we don't love our brother he said we're in the darkness so god is light first john 1 5. and if we and if we walk in the light it means we're walking in love god is love so the love of god is the nature of god the light of god is the substance of god so when we walk in the nature of god we have the substance of god agreed he that abides in love abides in god so he's saying if we love our brother we're in the light which means if i and i have any time i've allowed anything in my heart that's not the love of god anger unforgiveness judgment criticism those things cause darkness in my heart they obscure my vision they obscure your discernment it's impossible for me to discern properly if i'm angry offended judgmental or critical i can't see straight but he said if you love your brother you're in the light and there's no cause for stumbling so this is uh it's really important that we learn in practices jesus said in john 8 12 i am the light of the world whoever follows me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life so he's commanding us to to love our enemies pray for them bless them do good to them he said then you'll be a weiss son of god you'll be a mature son or daughter if we can love our enemies here's what it says to do we're to bless them that curse us do good to those that hate us pray for those that spitefully use us and persecute us we're not to be overcome by evil but we're to overcome evil with good now i'm going to add something that i've learned this helps us to love people that mistreated us i've been pondering this jesus said this is my commandment love one another as i have loved you so how many have ever had uh someone treat you ill and you know you're supposed to love them all right all of us okay how did i was thinking lord how do you do it this in hebrews 8 12 and in hebrews 10 17 he says their sins and their lawless deeds i will remember no more he said i'll be merciful to their unrighteousness and their sins and their lawless deeds i will remember no more it says in isaiah 43 25 i even in i if he blots out your transgressions for my own sake and i will not remember your sins so when the lord says we're to love like he love that means when he says i will not remember your sins it's not because he has a bad memory it's because he makes a decision i'm not going to remember that amen so if we're going to walk in the love that god commands us to walk in we have to be intentional and deliberate about erasing from our memory what someone ever did to us to hurt us that's if only if we want to love like christ's love because if we keep rehearsing it or nursing it it'll become an obstacle of offense in our heart so when we forgive we have to forget we have to work at it how many have ever had to work at forgetting let me say this if we become intentional about it it's not hard just make up your mind just make up your mind i'm not going to remember that practice this practice picturing people and completely erasing forever whatever they did and then love them brand new like they never did anything wrong to you and that's how christ loves us isn't that how he loves us what if wouldn't it be horrible if i went to the lord and i said lord here i am today i've come to ask for your help and he goes oh it's you i remember what you've done i remember all your failures i remember how hurtful it was to me as your lord and savior the times you let me down it would be horrible he doesn't do that so he says love one another as i've loved you that means we have to become good forgetters if we're going to be successful in loving anyway we're not to repay evil for evil we're not to be overcome by evil we're told in romans 12 21 do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good so i said love them bless them pray for them do good for them so we overcome evil by doing good now i'm overcome by evil if i repay evil for evil if someone hurts me and i said all right you hurt me then i'm withdrawing my love from you now i've just been overcome by evil but if you you heard me i love you and i'll keep loving you and i'm going to keep praying for you i'm now overcoming evil with good so he said that's what we have to do in all of our relationships jesus isn't saying we if we just know this it's all going to be fine he said if we do this so when when our lives are falling apart it's because relational frictions come in and we start repaying evil for evil it says in first peter chapter 3 verse 9 he says do not repay evil for evil but instead don't repay a curse with a curse he said with a curse give a blessing he said for to this you were called first peter 3 9 that you might inherit a blessing so god so what are you called to we're called to be mistreated blessed back so we can inherit a blessing this is how we have to build our life and it doesn't happen on a first try we have to practice it okay so that was chapter five let's go to chapter six these are we're gonna skim over chapter six and chapter seven i like to refer to in my own heart to the sermon on the mount as the master counselor's manual it's from jesus christ himself he is the master and he said now these are the nuggets these are the gems this is the wisdom do this and your house will stand come on so let's look let's just skim over some of these we can't go into in depth chapter six he talks about giving alms he said take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men to be seen by them otherwise you have no reward from your father in heaven wow do not do good deeds to be seen by men otherwise you have no reward therefore when you do a charitable deed the king james says give alms it speaks of giving sharing your finances or your substance with people that at the moment are less fortunate they need help it's called almsgiving charitable deeds he said do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogue in the streets that they may have glory from men assuredly i say to you they have their reward but when you do a charitable deed do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing that your charitable deed may be in secret and your father who sees in secret will himself reward you openly so the first thing jesus says is when you do almsgiving charitable deeds so what's implied is as a believer giving to the poor should be a regular part of my dna come on somebody this is huge jesus is going to talk about he's going to talk about almsgiving they call it charitable giving in the new king james but i like the king james almsgiving then the next paragraphs he's going to talk about prayer in secret he said pray in secret my father in secret answer he's going to talk about fasting in secret and my father answering it and then jesus is going to say store up not your treasure on earth but in heaven where thief can't come in a raw a moth can't corrupt it can't be corroded so jesus just told us that alms giving giving to the poor generous open heart kind merciful lifestyle doing that in secret as a not as a lifestyle praying in secret as a lifestyle fasting in secret as a lifestyle is how we store up treasure in heaven so jesus is telling us build your life on these words i can't emphasize how important it is to integrate these into our life giving i'm not i'm not talking about our tithes and offerings above that just in your pocket what you have help this person send off some money to missions help that single mom give that person guest money that should be a lifestyle if we're a believer if we're a follower of christ now there's so many benefits that come out of that because what we sow is what we reap we're not doing it to get but the bible says blessed is the merciful man he does good to his own soul the merciful man does good to his own soul jesus said blessed is the merciful they shall obtain mercy so by having an open heart like that we cultivate a pattern of reaping the mercy and the grace of god that's the way the kingdom of god works so that's one that's very important now when we're counseling and helping people you can you can often find some of the people that have financial problems and they're having a hard time one you find out they don't seek first the kingdom they'll go to church when it's convenient but if it's a nice day at the beach they're gone or if the game or of this or that or it is not just church attendance that's not how we measure if god's first it's so it's the highest priority in our life should be our walk with god no matter what our profession or what our calling is if we're a doctor a plumber a teacher or we drive a truck our highest call is to walk with god there are people that don't do that they're born again but god's not first and uh their giving is sporadic you know and they haven't cultivated yet a lifestyle of being generous and so they find himself in a hard spot things aren't working where's the money all of that and we just have to go back and start building our life on the words of jesus christ so almsgiving is huge there could a lot can be said about that but you'll you'll store up treasure in heaven for everything you do do good to somebody and you'll reap you'll set up a cycle of reaping on earth number two the next thing is jesus said when you pray you shall not be like the hypocrites for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets that they may be seen by men assuredly i say to you they have their reward but you when you pray go into your room when you've shut your door pray to your father who's in the secret place and your father who sees in secret will reward you openly and when you pray do not use vain repetition as the heathen do for they think they will be heard for their many words therefore don't be like them for your father knows the things that you have need of before you ask him in this manner therefore pray and he gives us what we call the lord's prayer our father in heaven hallowed be your name your kingdom come your will be done now we could do a great in-depth teaching on prayer and i'm not going to do that but what we're getting from this right here is jesus is saying build your life with a structured daily habit of secret prayer alone time secret go in shut the door not it's good to pray with the headphones on while you're going on a bike ride whatever or you know praying this and but it's different than going alone shutting the door and having communion with god so jesus is saying again we're going to help people we're this is prayer counseling equipping so we need to find out hey are have you cultivated a prayer life you got to do it and the how to isn't that important it is important just start doing it the holy spirit will help you take a stab at it just do it and you'll learn as you go i'm not saying don't get teaching but here's what he said our father in heaven hallowed be thy name he begins by giving praise reverence thanksgiving honor to the lord that's how we start our prayer the next thing he teaches is your kingdom come it's not lord i need this i need that he's saying lord your rule in my life your reign in my life lord as i pray today guide me today to do your will what's your will for me this week what's your will for me this month i want your will not mine that's your kingdom come your will be done then we can ask him for lord you know our needs forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors do not lead us into temptation but delivers from the evil one the last thing is you know delivers from the evil one for years of the kingdom the power and the glory forever amen then he says if you forgive men their trespasses your heavenly father will also forgive you if you do not forgive them in their trespasses neither will your father forgive your trespasses those are the words in red from jesus that's very sober it's very serious so that's another thing where people can get hung up probably with prayer counseling when someone's stuck a lot of times unforgiveness is at the root of it then jesus goes on to fasting again he says moreover when you fast don't be like the hypocrites with the sad countenance they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting surely i say to you they have their reward but you when you fast anoint your head and wash your face so that you do not appear to men to be fasting but to your father who's in the secret place your father who sees in secret will reward you openly so jesus spoke to us about almsgiving prayer and fasting he said do all of those in secret let him be part of our lifestyle he said your father will reward you openly and then he says don't lay up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal he's referring to prayer fasting and almsgiving lay for yourself treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust destroys where thieves don't break in and steal for where your treasure is there your heart will be also so everything that we do out of love for god and out of obedience to his word is rewarded eternally jesus said if we even give the least of his a cup of cold water in his name he said you will not lose your reward now he's still talking about the next thing the lamp of the body is the eye if therefore your eye is good your whole body will be full of light but if your eye is bad your whole body will be full of darkness if therefore the light that's in you is darkness how great is that darkness and then he says you can't serve two masters you'll either hate the one and love the other or you'll love be loyal the one despise the other you cannot serve god in mammon or money so when he talks about the lamp of the eye being good or evil it speaks if you look in the book of proverbs and you look even in the new testament a good eye is an eye that's generous that rejoices in other people being blessed it's not there's not jealousy competition stinginess a good eye does have that an evil eye or a bad eye is selfish money loving stingy competitive you can find this in the scriptures it says proverbs 28 verse 22 a man with an evil eye hastens after riches okay jesus remember the parable in matthew 20 where he said uh the vineyard owner went out the beginning of the day and he found workers he said will you work in my vineyard he said they said yes he said okay ocala payout denarius for the day's labor is that good they agreed he said go to work then about the middle of the day he found some other work he's standing idly said you want to work in my vineyard they said yes he said go work and i'll give you what's right now the first one he told him daenerys second one he said i'll give you what's right at the end of the day was only one hour left to work he found someone else he said go work in my field and i'll give you what's right at the end of the day they all came up for pay he paid the first one who worked all day long at daenerys the second one who worked half a day he paid him at daenerys the one that worked one hour he paid him at daenerys the one that worked all day long complained and he said you made them equal with us and jesus answered he said is it not lawful for me to do what i wish with my own things or is your eye evil because i'm good is he called an evil eye in other words he said i already agreed you said you work for daenerys what if he thought to himself this guy still has to support his family i think i'm going to pay him a full day's wage just because i'm a good person here's a full day so he said is your eye evil because i'm good so and you can get other inferences from old and new testament and evil eye is jealous stingy competitive a good eye is generous and righteous so now jesus is referring that to money he said the lamp of the body is the eye so really the eye a good or an evil eye is the heart it's talking about seeing with the eyes of our heart he said if our eye is good if we're loving generous he said our body will be full of light we're stingy we'll have darkness in us well that's good he's still talking about money he's still talking he said no one can serve two masters this is huge we need to be free from the love of money but be good stewards of money but not love it we should be good stewards of money we cannot serve god in money and then still on the same theme so this is a big thing in jesus's eyes having a good ire or an evil eye loving money or serving god this is a big thing and we should get it settled we're serving god all right i want to be a generous person i want to rejoice when god's good to somebody come on he said if you have that kind of a heart you'll be full of light i want to walk in the light and um but jealousy stinginess all that brings darkness into our heart therefore i say to you don't worry about your life what you will eat or drink or what about your body what you will put on is not life more than food in the body more than clothing look at the birds of the air for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns your your heavenly father feeds them are you not of more value than they which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature so he said don't stress god takes care of the birds why do you worry about clothing look at the lilies of the field how they grow they neither toil nor spin yet i say to you that even solomon in all of his glory was not arrayed like one of these now if god so closed the grass the field which today is and tomorrow is thrown into the fire will not he much more clothe you owe you of little faith therefore listen to me these are the words of jesus do not worry saying what shall we eat what shall we drink what shall we wear for these are all the things that the gentiles seek your heavenly father knows that you need all these things here's the promise but seek the kingdom of god first and his righteousness and all these things shall be added to you therefore do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about its own things sufficient for each day is its own trouble so god says don't worry about money don't serve money seek first the kingdom of god seek first his righteousness walk in the light have a good eye and god will add to you everything that you need we're almost done we're just covering the highlights if we become familiar with matthew chapter 5 6 and 7 will be good equipped counselors paul wrote to timothy and he said all scripture is given by the inspiration of god and it is profitable for doctrine reproof rebuke and instruction that the man or the woman of god may be thoroughly equipped for every good work so becoming familiar with matthew 5 6 and 7 will cause you to be thoroughly equipped for counseling next chapter seven we'll try to finish in the next few minutes judge not that you be not judged for with the judgment you judge you will be judged and the measure you use it will be measured back to you what's he talking about he's saying why do you look the speck in your brother's eye but do not consider the plank in your own eye how can you say to your brother let me remove the speck from your own eye and look a plank is in your own eye hypocrite first remove the plank from your eye your own eye then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye basically my understanding is this all of us are going to have times in some of our relationships at different times where somebody does something that rubs us the wrong way and when that happens we can just let it go but sometimes it happens to a degree we need to say something agreed it needs to be addressed so what jesus is saying he said do not judge because the measure you use will be measured back to you so be in in context he said why are you looking at the speck in your brother's eye and can't see the plank in your own i'll give an example of how i've done it i know you'll be able to relate something can bother you about somebody else and the first time second time uh third time i think i'm gonna address this but what i don't realize is the judgment the unrighteous judgment in my heart judgment is when we attach we seemed we as if we know the motive why they did it oh like uh you're lazy or you don't care or you did this for that reason so those judgments get in our heart and then that causes us to have irritation anger or frustration because we passed judgment it's the opposite of walking in love so then we don't recognize now i've got a log in my eye and it's the judgment that i've passed see now if i go to talk to the person no matter how nice i try to be my tone is going to carry the judgments and it doesn't work because what he said when you judge you're going to be judged back the same measure so what he's saying is if we do have to address somebody before we do it we have to get the log out of our own eye i'd say okay i've got to get my anger i've got to get off my anger over my frustration my impatience all of those are not the love of god i've got to get my own heart clear to where i'm in the love of god and i have to say is my motive in the this for that person's good or to give them a piece of my mind so am i doing it from selfishness or from love basically that's what jesus is saying he said don't judge because if you're judging the other person you're going to be judged he said before we talk to the other person i have to get the log out of my own heart it's not easy to do but we have to do it we have to we have to be able to recognize lord i'm i i'm you know i have this wrong attitude i have a wrong attitude i have impatience i have anger i've or i'm presuming a bad motive i can't read the person's mind i'm not god i can't judge him because you talk to someone with judgment in your heart it will never work that's what he's saying get the plank out of our eye help us lord amen here's what i think of when i think of all of that in ephesians chapter four jesus i mean the word of god says paul i therefore the prisoner of the lord beseech you to walk worthy of this calling to which you were called with all lowliness and gentleness with long suffering bearing with one another in love endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace so that's good all right let's we're almost done isn't this good the word of god is so rich now these are we're just we're just going we're skimming over sermon on the mount we could go deeper into that but we're just skimming over this whole judgment and the log in my own eye i know that i've done that countless number of times in my life infinite number of times had attitudes in my own heart that are not right they're they're not godly not even seeing it and wanting to talk to the other person about fix them and uh it just never works help us jesus said start here clear this up and usually when you do that you don't even need to talk to him anymore lord i repent lord i got this log out once you get the log out you're like oh i'm really not that bothered come on the log was in my own eye the whole time now here's another word of wisdom gee after that jesus says don't give what is holy to dogs do not cast your pearls before swine lest they trample them under their feet and turn and tear you in pieces that's just good sound advice sometimes i've counseled people you know someone gets born again brand new they're just they're a new believer they got filled with the spirit they're speaking in tongues they come home to their unbelieving family they said oh man hallelujah shonda i've been speaking in tongues for two hours and they all go you're crazy and and uh we don't want anything to do with you you're weird and jesus said use wisdom don't take your pearls and throw them before swine they won't appreciate it they'll trample on them and turn on you so we have to use wisdom then what else do we have to have ask and it will be given to you seek and you will find knock and it will be open to you the greek tense in those words is ask continuing it's an ongoing continuing tense in the amplified it says ask and keep asking for everyone who asks and keeps asking receives he who seeks and keeps seeks seeking fines to him who knocks and keeps knocking it will be opened what man is there among you if a son asks for bread will he give him a stone if he asks for a fish will he give him a serpent of course not if you then being evil know how to give good gifts to your children how much more will your father who's in heaven give good things to those who ask him therefore whatever you want men to do to you do also them for this the law and the prophets so what jesus is saying here now is persevere in prayer don't give up people are going to come to you and say well i have this problem and say okay if you pray yeah i prayed about it for a week and it still hasn't changed don't give up keep believing keep seeking keep knocking well i ask god for help i don't know don't give up that's what jesus is saying keep asking keep seeking keep knocking why he said everyone who asks receives whatever you want men to do to you do to them also this is the law and the prophets then almost lastly jesus says enter by the narrow gate for white is the gate that and broad is a way that leads to destruction there are many who go by it now is a gate difficult as a way which leads to life there are a few who find it we need to be reminded of that we're walking a narrow way i'm thinking that old song walking up the king's highway my load is lighter my way is brighter walking up the king's highway anybody remember that well walking up the king's highway anyway it's a narrow way come on jesus said the way to life is narrow we're walking a narrow way remember that not you're not going to probably not be real popular in the world neither was jesus they killed him so let's remember that that's a good one i'm almost done then he says beware of false prophets if i would add in here in a parenthesis some teachers pastors evangelists and apostles i would say false ministers who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly they are ravenous wolves what's a ravenous wolf of course ravenous means extremely hungry for their own appetite so a false minister is feeding their own appetite could be financially it could be their ego it could be power could be lust it could be whatever but that they're ravenous and he said you'll know them by their fruit do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles even so every good tree bears good fruit but a bad tree bears bad fruit good tree cannot bear bad fruit nor can a bad tree bear good fruit every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire therefore by their fruit you'll know them there goes out the window the once saved always saved he said every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown in the fire that's from the lips of jesus it's good for us to think about that every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown in the fire all right then he says not everyone who says to me lord lord these go together shall enter the kingdom of heaven but he who does the will of my father in heaven this flows right with beware of false ministers many will say to me in that day lord lord have we not prophesied in your name cast out demons in your name done many wonders in your name then i will declare to them i never knew you depart from me you who practice lawlessness meaning they did not obey him he just said the only people that will enter the kingdom of god are those who do the will of the father so to enter the kingdom you've got to do god's will and bear fruit amen that's an overview of the master counseling manual from the lips of jesus matthew 5 6 and 7. and then he says whoever hears these sayings of mine isn't this profound and does them all likened him to a wise man who built his house on the rock the rain decided the floods came and the winds blew and beat on that house and it did not fall for it was founded on the rock so there's our equipping for christ-centered prayer counseling if we try to sum up what we cover today it's love it is cultivate a lifestyle of prayer fasting and giving to the poor let that be part of our lifestyle pray with perseverance the way is narrow you know a tree by its fruit good good tree bears good fruit bad tree bears bad fruit not everybody that says i'm a believer is a believer but everybody says i'm a minister as a minister only those that do the will of god enter the kingdom of heaven so um yeah love your enemy pray for him bless him do good forgive and forget forgive and forget let's become good forgetters come on somebody let's become good forgetters just think about it if i remember your sin then god's going to remember mine i don't think that's a good trade i don't want to go there how about you now if he said the measure we use is measured back to us then i want to give you as much forgiveness as possible if the measure we give is the measure we get i want to give you as much grace as possible because i need all the grace i can get anyway lord let's thank him for his word lord thank you for your word thank you for your word thank you o god for your word in jesus name and just to close this teaching it's it's three messages christ-centered prayer counseling if you haven't heard the other two again i'd encourage you to hear them maybe go and hear them again take some time and read through the sermon on the mount on your own read through it a few times get it in your heart because having that in our own life is going to help our own walk and the more that we walk in this the more we can help other people and the more we walk in it the easier it is when we're sitting down and we're trying to help somebody the holy spirit will help us put our finger right on it say listen i want to and i do these things in my office with people they share what they're going through all that and i'll just say listen if the holy spirit shows me i'll say here's what needs to happen you've got to make a decision in your heart to put god's kingdom first once you start doing that all the pieces will come together that's how god wants to help counsel people and um yeah he wants all of us to be equipped there's a great harvest coming in and i'm not going to counsel people all day long you are you all are we all are you're going to cast out demons you're going to lay hands on the sick and you're going to pray for people get them set free you're going to god and the thing is when the more of the word you get in you here's what jesus said when the holy spirit comes he'll bring to your remembrance the words that i've spoken so here's how it works you get matthew 5 6 and 7 in your spirit read it a few times hear these messages two or three times the first one especially i felt like the first one laid a great foundation for what we're teaching but get their word in you and here's what happens when you sit down to pray with someone or to counsel someone they said can i talk to you i'm having a hard time while they're talking to you the holy spirit's gonna bring scriptures to you jesus said the holy spirit will bring to your remembrance the words i've spoken but if you don't have it in you he can't bring it to remembrance so get the word in you you'll be sitting down and all of a sudden while they're talking scriptures will start popping up in you that's the lord just share the word with them and they're going to get free thank you lord we love you lord come on give him praise holy holy
