okay so this studio is a different take on a home studio it's home but it's not in a home [Music] [Music] this video is brought to you by sweetwater they sponsor all of these studio tours on the channel if you guys aren't subscribed we just hit 70 000 subscribers so cool you guys are amazing all this stuff we know we go through the different products and talk about the stories and the studio and all that stuff but all the links the stuff that i use is down in the description i've been using some arturia stuff this month i have this key step 37 which is really fun for like really quick kind of writing tool i have the key lab 61 over here and i've been using the v collection 8. if you want to check that out i put the link to both of these controllers down in the description so this studio is more of a shared working space that has both two recording studios as well as a live venue that doubles as a performance and a video space so the space is membership based you get 24 7 access to it but it's not exclusive to members so you can still book it and use it if you're just doing a one-off event or session shout out to logan for hanging out with me you can find out more about the space at home4music.org i'll put a link to that down in the description let me know what you guys think about this space down in the comments what your favorite part about it if you would use something like this i think it's a really cool idea for people who maybe you just moved to a new town nashville and you don't have enough to lease your own studio or to go book procedures i think it's a pretty cool content let me know what you think down in the comments hit the like button if you guys like this video subscribe to see more of this and let's go check out the studio home is nashville's only 24 7 music production community and it's one of the only non-profit music incubators in the entire world our members have 24 7 access to be able to come in here and work be able to come in here and create music to make relationships and to generally just become more successful in the music industry so it's music focused so we are a non-profit trade organization so you have to be at least loosely tied to the music industry to get a membership here by by loosely tied of course we have videographers we have photographers we have artist managers entertainment marketers everybody that gathers around the process of artist development so that's at the core of what we do is developing artists and producers who want to make a living make a career out of making music so we work on pairing the right producers and artists up together we work on giving them some frameworks to grow their business instead of just looking for opportunities how to actually create opportunities in their careers so when you become a member you basically get access to the facility anytime yeah so you get your own key card members book these studios through an app on their phone or through their you know computer browser so it's all transparent they can see what's available when and then we also do non-member stuff so we have you know labels that hit us uh artist management companies that has so we call it studio b studio a and live room we call this homework co-working space lounge space there's just a whole plethora of advantages one you have a commercial workspace that's on main street in east nashville so this location is like insane man you know we're a mile from downtown we're walking distance from five points in east nashville so to have like a business and you can get a business mailbox here so you can have a proper business address um here as well so you get all the advantages of having a commercial space to operate your business out of but you but your overhead stays like insanely low you don't have to you know you're not up against paying the you know five thousand dollars a month bill on a studio or in this case it's nearly twice that much when there's bigger projects either member projects so members can lock out the whole facility so we're set up on sound grid to where you can route audio from any of the rooms to the other rooms and stuff like that you can turn it into one big massive facility but you don't have to you can just get one little room and go in there okay cool i'm just going to do a writing session in here i'm just going to go mix in there for a little bit versus you know having to get a whole a whole studio basically you know so we call this studio b it's meant to be you know a dead tracking space so again that ties in to the a room if you want to use it as an extra tracking space but it's also just a standalone writing rehearsal and tracking space all the back line stays here so it's super easy for people to come in fire up you know there's this old 16 channel yamaha board so nice if it's somebody that's old school that doesn't really know how to use you know daws and and all that kind of stuff then they can just fire that up and use it as a rehearsal space if they want a lot of people that write in here and then we have 16 channels set up on these focusrite interfaces over here and this room just goes to logic so it's meant to oh cool just be real real simple unless you use the sound grid and then you can obviously route it into pro tools or ableton wherever else you want to but that particular machine just runs logic so we built we built all this custom from the ground up this is an old maintenance garage so we built this this up and these walls if you look this is completely like floor to ceiling this is just treatment and then like guilford of maine uh you know acoustic fabric so it's a it gets super dead whenever you close it it's perfectly you know silent room and so a lot of people use it as just a standalone drum tracking room too sure a lot of times people will roll in here with the microphone sometimes and just put it in the middle of the room yeah and track vocals so we got a piano over here electric because it's like a yeah just a 88 key weighted key keyboard bass amp a bigger bass amp or and a a and yeah and we've got you know these subs and these mains um on the pa as well a couple guitars locale monitors and then instruments too that's ballsy yeah yeah you know it's stuff that like 90 percent of people are bringing in their own instruments but especially when people are writing in here they go oh man let me just grab the base real quick i got this like funky bass line or something yeah yeah it's cool i imagine moving to nashville and not necessarily having a network yet yeah you know and having some experience and wanting to grow as a producer or an engineer or musician coming here home being able to use this space maybe you're renting an apartment and can't really do a ton of drum smashing you know in there where you can come in schedule it out and collaborate with people or like like you said earlier do vocal sessions or just kind of start yeah you can really treat it like a business without investing in the infrastructure or building your own studio yeah right all right let's see what else we got cool wow this hallway is so cool yeah this hallway area is another um little workspace and lounge area so all these rooms the the main sort of common areas the live room this room and then this room over here really used a lot of times it's just co-working spaces for people this this mural was made custom for us as a gift from the guys at east side murals because they really loved what we were doing to try to build a like a non-profit community space that's actually something that people would want to use he showed me a mock-up of something that he had like envisioned doing on this wall yeah and it was that it was it can you i don't know if you can read what it says but yeah music lover right yeah yeah totally a lot of people stand there for a minute like wait okay and then someone else pointed out to me that it's kind of a it's like a psychological indicator if people see the word music first or they already love because the people always say music or they say love a lot of people don't see the lover parts right we'll go into studio a here this is awesome the spaceship yeah this is really really nice so this room is a room inside of a room there's no right angles in the room it was really built specifically as like a a mix room you know the goal in creating this room was that a mix would translate from this room into any studio that you worked in and we had some really awesome studio designers help us with this a guy named anthony falcone was the main designer but we did have mike cronin come in and consult with us a little bit too pro bono which is really cool mike cronin built blackbird and ocean way among wow other amazing studios and he got looped into the project early on by our lee like construction project manager and so he came through a couple of times and helped us and pointed out some things for us to think about and for us to look at how much you know they taught us about the whisper clips and you know how many layers of drywall he would use if this were his thing you know because it's all green glue and drywall green glue and drywall well it's really cool as far as like the engineering goes like i mean the set of monitors you guys have here is you know a luxury yeah yeah be able to have the flat ns10s yep but then go to the atoms with the pmc yeah that got the atoms which it like you turn those on and it just kind of feels like you're swimming in it and then the pmc's it's just laser precision i don't i don't claim to be a mix engineer but man you can hear it like if you oh if you if you tweak any tiny tiny thing it's like boom you you could hear exactly what just happened so those are the pmcs especially become invaluable for the mixed engineers that that work out of here and i think just more and more in the whole industry honestly absolutely it's a luxury dude these are expensive so as far as uh the the rigging here uh tell me a little bit about we got a mac mini yeah so again our goal isn't to be the most souped up crazy you know studio we're not trying to compete with blackbird we're not trying to compete with ocean way you know our job is to provide something that's in the middle so it's not your bedroom yeah but it's also not ocean way you know we got we got plenty of studios like that in town right if you if you're ready to spend that kind of money i'm sure these guys will will hook you up but this is meant to be practical so we have a we have a mac mini we've got the avalon 737 the ua 610 we've got the ultimate bundle on the apollo so it's like the 100 all the biggest plug-ins all the wave stuff so again it's just like saving people so much money from not having to buy gear and plug-ins and then what we've done is we've set it up to where it interfaces easily with other people's rigs because a lot of guys are producing stuff in the box or they have certain stuff if they want to bring their apollo twin and cool then you can just go out that in here and it's going to show up on the big knob right oh that's great um or sometimes people will even just come in and use the the eighth inch and just pop in if they're completely in the box right yeah that's great we've got pro tools ultimate hd on here oh wow logic pro and ableton on this machine this is a 12 channel interface with digico preamps uh 12 n 6 out the way the digi grid stuff so it works is it's audio over ethernet all right and we have a central server in our closet over here that handles all of the processing load so we have another stage box that has 24 inputs that say like we were talking about we want to track drums over there okay cool so we have this stage box you just go put it down there cat6 cable into the wall you know power cable and then all of a sudden you've got 24 in 12 out nice plus another 12 here plus we have a card on our x32 system in the live room oh cool that talks to the sound grid too so all of a sudden with the sound grid you can use all the so i mean i think it does up to 64 channels and it's like pretty much zero latency and all that so yeah that's way over my head it gives you yeah this like insane because it's processing it all on a central server basically instead of it you know bogging down your your machine these days what we've noticed people people most people are piecing stuff together yeah you know people either want the live feel and they'll just go put a band in the live room and they'll track it all down in here yeah and they're not trying to make it sound like it was tracked in a studio yeah or they're just going to piece it all together you know they're going to come in in different sessions they'll do a drum tracking session they'll do guitar over doves all that kind of stuff and then more and more we have a lot of guys that are doing hip hop and pop production that oh yeah aren't even doing that you know they're they're just using it for the vocals you know and then the the mixing and the space yeah and then you've got this is a little guitar amp over here a little amp head yeah so this is these are one of our partners they are actually members too so they do some of their content and stuff out of here but it's a canadian company called rev and this d20 it's it's a tube based uh amp but it's meant to run di so it gives you the same response as yep running into a into an amp and then but you can just go straight into the you know into the board or whatever on it so nice and then you've got just everything right here michael yeah this is the stuff that just kind of stays out so extra headphones microphones di boxes things like that and then we've got a secret stash of microphones that have been contributed through our board members okay that we keep in the back and you just get whenever just log them out yeah you ask us and we'll we'll put them in a locker for you oh cool and then you can get them out of the locker and you just put them back in there so we got like u87s and 421s and cool stuff like that that you know comes in handy sometimes yeah yeah so it's all again this is a room inside a room so this is a completely different room inside of a room and then just wow just on this side there's uh four layers of drywall plus green green glue and then it's hanging on whisper clips so this is one of the biggest challenges was like okay we've got a full band playing in this room right over here yeah and then we want to be able to be to safely track vocals in here and i mean you can't do it perfectly sure right nowhere we got it pretty good yeah we got it you know it's very very functional so again shout out to mike cronin for for helping us navigate some of that stuff so and this is a really decently sized vocal booth in here i can't even i mean it's very long it's almost longer than the control room and this is kind of a silly thing to point out but this like bench here is really nice because one of the things that i don't love about commercial spaces is when you sit down back here it's usually a outboard rack right and it's like up to here yeah so you're kind of trying to look over to the head could you yeah yeah you know and you're like almost feel like you're removed from the process a bit but since this is up on a stage here and you just it really is the tie lines and stuff down here too so yeah that's crazy the goal um originally whenever we did the drawings was that this was going to be a table where it was like basically we would have classes in here oh cool so there was going to be you know across this back row there was going to be however many seats we could fit in and the table then over time the producers that i knew they were advising me were like you don't want to do that man yeah you can still have your classes in there but yeah you don't want to do that and so that's cool yeah keep keep good people around you that's fine absolutely my advice um is there and this is probably a different rate right like then yeah if you book it that's the cool thing is that you know because the rooms have different functionality we've got them for members now for non-members it is definitely a different rate yeah for members it's just 30 bucks an hour it doesn't matter which room you use okay that room over there is 1100 square feet 20 foot ceilings these are on main street yeah 30 bucks now that's like unheard of yeah so this is where we do like the live streaming too we'll we'll have our camera guys here we can set up a joystick controller to where they can control all the cameras and um sometimes we'll even have another monitor right here so they can do lights as well one of the same guys like lights and cams in here just you know controlling it all so yeah so this is the live room this is where people you know do their rock star rehearsal they do their music videos um we do workshops in here concerts networking events all that it also doubles as like a natural light photography studio so yeah you got the blackout curtains and then we have these photo backdrops up here um and then a lot of our members will just kind of bring in their own you know oh cool these are just easy you know hey you don't want to bring anything in great boom there's backdrop there's a soft box right over there just knock it out yeah we've just been treating it as we've gone so you know we have the super dead room over there and then we have the flat room and now we wanted this to be live we wanted to actually be a live room a reverberant room yeah but of course yeah like you said a a box you know not ideal so we've just been doing a little bit and then over time now we're three years into the project we've got it pretty much dialed in the first step was putting the curtains up okay how does that make it sound then it was like these two panels back here are pretty big those are kind of like the no-brainer and then and then we built the the projection screen which is also a just a giant acoustic panel wow so and then we were like okay that's pretty close and so then we started putting the cloud stuff up here um and then those panels and then the white ones on the wall were actually the last ones to go up those actually just went up a few months ago so that's awesome but we got it pretty close we're gonna do a little bit more up here um on this side of the stage yeah but man it sounds really good in here we're running off of an x32 which is pretty much the industry standard for live sound so anytime you're in a venue and you see somebody in the back with like their their ipad and they're controlling the you know the the live mix that's the way this works uh so we've got it's not the actual x32 console we've got the rack mount one yeah and then the sd16 stage box and so this has a sound grid card in it so for 16 channels um and you know anything up to 16 channels we if we want to track it we can just run it into the a room and the way that it works is you know you'll still you can have completely separate controls to where you can have a you know a mix for the for the room in here and then it'll go into the room over there you know completely dry and you can do whatever you want with it which is why it's such a good broadcast facility we've got a light system that's really kind of plug and play to where people can come and come in here and you know just touch screen go okay cool i want to you know change the vibe in here you know just with the push of a button and you know get my content or whatever i do my tick-tock video yeah you know and then we've got resolume projection uh what they call that projection mapping software it's really trying to give you the tools to to get creative and not just okay you know it's like you go rehearse at you know i don't want to like drag anybody through the mud here but it's going to be like a a little dark black room yeah you know and somebody comes in for two seconds and goes here all right bye and it's just up to you to try to like make the most out of that versus going okay i can get in a room that's going to make me feel like i'm really doing it i can program my own light show or have somebody come help me program a light show i can come up with visuals and then i can dial in the performance to where i could bring in industry folks to watch me do it and i've done it in the same place over and over again to where i know what's about to happen got my performance down it's going to be unique it's gonna be artistic you know so that's really the the idea behind it is just to give people the tools to really make a big statement yeah without having to go broke trying to figure out how to execute all of it this specific place is tied into a a general building that is also like a shared work yeah yeah totally yeah so we're actually part of a 50 000 square foot building uh called the center 615 main building and that's part of a three building campus wow of basically office spaces co-working spaces event spaces common areas kitchens there's a gym in here there's a rooftop deck pool table ping pong shuffle board you know outdoor stage that's like this is a 500 capacity outdoor venue right there there's a pop-up art gallery space over here there's you know wow and so when i like if i become a member here i can i can also go out there or i can have my crew or whoever hang out out in that area or if i'm shooting there's like a video presentation room up there with 5.1 dolby surround sound that you can use um it's it goes on and on it's pretty wild that's great so that's where our memberships kind of like change is like the producer membership is mainly you're just using this area as production then we have a pro membership where it's like you get full access to the whole building yeah you know everything and you're you know you like i said you can get a mailbox you have a business address here all that kind of stuff so and then what's the what's the pricing for producer membership versus pro membership yeah so for the producer it's a thousand for the year uh pro is 2000 for the year 2000 for the year and then you get the discounted price on the hourly yeah you get 20 hours up front as a sign up bonus that's what it is right now so sometimes that'll that'll be a little bit more if we're doing like a a promo or something like that but uh you get that plus you get a ton of training we'll we'll give you i mean basically unlimited amount of time to learn how to use the facility so you're a content creator let's say you had a vision for what you wanted to accomplish here you could just hit us up and say hey i'm going to come in there for like two or three hours and just tinker so that i can you know just understand understand what i need we're not you're not getting charged a dime for that yeah cool so you can map out your whole process it's like yeah when you're ready to actually shoot or when you're ready to bring your clients in and make money yeah then you pay the house basically yeah yeah that's but other than that you know it's just like just hit us up we'll we have tutorial videos on all the different systems that we do plus we'll sit down one-on-one with you that's really cool i i'd like to point out that as someone who's spent a insane amount of money and i and i actually work from home yeah i mean um yeah you know i know a lot of people who [Music] move to nashville and then can't work from home so they lease a studio space and that's a monthly oh yeah nut of over a thousand yeah usually a couple grand yeah that one person is going to be and so hopefully they're getting and that's where you get into the whole problem with you know like the feast and famine nature of music production where you go okay cool if this person's really good with their finances and they know what they're doing they can probably swing that yeah you know if they're getting a lot of work but what happens you know if they have a three-month dry spell and they're paying 2 500 bucks a month out of pocket yeah that could let alone could sink their business yeah right when you think about the reality of running a business especially as a producer or an engineer in the facility and all that this is definitely a unique way to approach it and gigabit ethernet you know coffee on tap all the time all right so it's like you know it it ends up paying for itself you know for those freelancers who are looking for clients yeah i mean i would argue that there's just nothing else out there like that like this yeah home4music.org is the best place to find out about the home membership we have two different instagrams that we do one's home for music and that's where we put some of our educational content it's mostly educational content focused around the music industry and then home for producers is what we call the actual facility stuff so you see just random stuff that we're doing around the facility so you can check us out on either one of those you can reach out to me directly logan homeformusic.org and yeah keep an eye out we'll be uh we'll be banging on youtube for too long all right we've heard you do that yeah we've got our own online community as well so even if you're not in nashville and you want to plug in with artists you want to plug in with the industry folks that are doing doing the thing here in nashville you can check out our online membership too so that's awesome thank you so much for having me absolutely thanks for coming by [Music] oh [Music]
