Epic Games - How To Move Games To Another Drive

hello and welcome back to another tutorial video today i'm going to show you how to move games from your epic games library from one hard drive to another so let's say you got a new ssd or a new drive and you want to move all of your games and you want to do it as quickly and efficiently as possible so i went ahead and i'm going to show you this with a rather small game but you can do it with any size game and again it is the quickest way of going about doing this i will say this before we get started uh for the future games that you install basically it's very simple when you go to install a new game right here under choose install location you'll just go to browse and you will find the the location or the new drive find it select it and that's going to be your new default install location remember that going forward now for our current games to move them what we're going to want to do is we're going to want to open up a file explorer window or browser here on windows to where we you're going to need two to kind of drag from one to uh the other so what you're gonna want to do is locate the game that you want to move so for me here it is in my e drive under the epic games folder and what you want to do is you want to go ahead and find the new drive so for me it's going to be my d drive and i've already created a new folder the epic games zero zero two folder i wanna go into that folder and i just want to click and drag that game over to my new folder and my new drive depending on the size of the game again it may take a little longer than others now once we've done that you can go ahead and remove that from the initial or original hard drive so go ahead and just you know drag that to the recycling bin or right click and delete that a couple of things that we have to do going forward we need to go back over to our epic games library we need to select the three dots here where we see that game and we need to go to uninstall so go ahead and go to uninstall click uninstall once again and now makes the computer or pc think that the game is no longer you know anywhere on the machine but we know that it is so now what we're going to want to do is hop back over to our folder where the new folder is here so once we're here what we want to do is create a temp folder name so we're going to rename this from the init the original folder name and this is very important and we're going to rename this so i'm going to rename this this whatever the folder is and then i'm going to add two or zero two uh to the end of it if we don't do this if we hop back over to our epic games library try to install it in that new the new drive it'll say directory must be empty so make sure that when you are here in your new folder and new drive that you are renaming this just temporarily all right so once we've done that and we renamed the folder just temporarily go back over to your epic games library and install and make sure you choose the new drive and the new location so i'm going to choose my new drive and my new location select folder and it should be good to go click install and i'm going to go ahead and pause this because this is a very small game and i want to show you what you would do with a larger game so as you can see i've paused that so what i want to do is click the three dots under the game once again and go to cancel install now if you've done everything right up to this point you will see something here that says resume this must say resume in order for this to work okay so if we hop back now over to our folder the new drive we will see something here the new folder is going to be right here right but what we want to do is hop back over to where we see magic the gathering 0 2 or whatever the name of the game is and we want to copy all of these files that are from the game install so select them and instead of copying i'm sorry you want to cut and cut those files or just right click cut and then hop back over to the folder and right here in the new folder we want to select everything and we want to paste all of those files so i'm going to go ahead and command or control v that's going to paste all of those files into our new folder now hop back over to the initial folder and you can go ahead and delete the temp folder that we created there again there's no need for it anymore and then once we've done that we've pasted everything over now hop back over to our epic game store and now the last step is the easiest one you hop back over to the epic game store go back to the game here where you just moved it to your new drive and just click resume and you'll see it'll very quickly verify and there will be no need to redownload and install because it is already on that new drive and as you can see we are ready to launch the game within literally i believe it was like 10 or 12 seconds this will work for any game on the epic game store any size game and it'll make your life so much easier if you have
