EP12 TRIP AROUND AUSTRALIA / EXPLORING KARIJINI NATIONAL PARK / VAN LIFE / MILLSTREAM

[Music] on this episode of sarah killen travels we go from ex-mouth down here across here up and around here to there and then around here to the carigini national park good morning guys um we are finally in carrijini last night we're in tom price um we spent the night at a roadside truck with my dad it's been 26 years and i've been hanging out to catch up with him on the road and i finally bloody ran into him um so that was really awesome this morning bit of bittersweet just bawled my eyes out last time i was in carrigeni was when i was at uni it was for my final expedition so it's been some time last time you were here you were a little australian and i got fined by the ranger yeah so let's hope that doesn't happen this time in this episode look out for a few bombies few backflips maybe even a few ass ups because it is pretty slippery on the rocks down here so hopefully there's some bloopers and you guys get the good laugh out of it we're staying with our mates dave and danny just close your [Music] all eyes hardship incomes good day guys so we quickly dropped off the van um beautiful day so we thought we'd utilize it we're making our way up to hancock and we know gorge dave west the guy we're staying with he said don't worry about dropping your tyres because the track's not bad it is like super corrugated it's like steep point corrugations i don't know what dave's smoking but it's not good and i'm definitely dropping the tyres down [Music] most of my time so we're just down here in we know gorge um both times me and sarah been here before it's been not even half as busy as this so we're just trying to deal with the crowds at the moment and set a decent gap between crowds so we'll see how we get [Music] [Applause] the only guilty [Music] that one was alright um hand right hand rail pulls shut so we're spewing last time we're here we've got to do that but that's right um we're gonna go do hancock gorge now [Music] [Music] the only comfort i've found [Music] so this is hancock um gorge it's pretty sick sarah's been teasing me about my neoprene shoes but they're really coming into their own [Music] i can now [Applause] [Music] asking [Music] for permission why do i keep asking for permission for someone [Music] so we made it to hancock gorge um it's just this little skinny um pool of water at the end it's pretty underwhelming um it's so beautiful isn't it yeah it's just so busy and it's hard to keep like happy and poison with everyone when people are being rude and cutting in and oh it's just insane hey like we've never been here on school holidays so but you have to be somewhere in school holidays so yeah that's right so we're putting up with it i don't even know if you can hear me right now because there's so many people in the gorge but yeah it's not too bad the water's so cold it'd be so much better coming in um a hotter hotter month than the middle of the year but if you can definitely avoid school holidays so we've just pulled up to have a bit of lunch and we pulled the back door open and come have a look what we have found [Music] so [Music] so you're not allowed to fly drones here but i'd love to be able to fly the drone through the gorge i reckon it'd be unbelievable like we did at cal barry if we put our drone up i guarantee you we'd get bloody caught it's just the way the cookie crumbles unfortunately really appreciate how old these rock structures are they've been here many years before us and after swimming in that freezing cold water you really feel refreshed um it feels good eh once you're out but when you're in there it's so cold you question why you're even in that water but um yeah what a day eh beautiful spot [Music] so we made it back to camp plan is to go down to circular pool find a little nice vantage point um and have a couple sundowner drinks which should be good um take you guys along with that one um dave and danny reckon they've got a pretty schmick spot for us so we'll be the judge of that science experiment mixing a bit of lemonade with soda water what are you making pink gin [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] so dave set us up on this spot it's all right look have a good look at it then compare it to this spot mate you've stitched this up here i thought you said your legs were sore you didn't want to walk any further well that is true but this is a ton better spot oops oh [Applause] let us know what you're up to this morning oh there's something on my face um i'm going for a bloody run i don't know why but dave said that he's um gonna go for a run and i was like i haven't run for about three years so i'm gonna join him so what a place to do your first run in three years at carrigeni there's plenty of better things to do than go running here trust me but you know get the um sweat up in the morning you know what they say if you win the morning you win the day so about to win the morning let's get it good morning we're just heading off to knox gorge and joffrey gorge today pretty sure it's knox right now we're here dale's campground yeah um and we're gonna go out to knox and joffrey gorge which is um up in these little bits here so got about a 40 minute drive ahead of us so this is danny and dave west where are you from dave from perth and do you think a prado is a land cruiser well technically it is it's called a pride land cruiser it's written all over it so yes [Music] we're at knox gorgeous [Music] could even be my friends again [Music] take all my weaknesses [Music] there ain't nobody [Music] we're down at knox gorge this place is honestly mind-blowing so beautiful take all my weaknesses [Music] make my please [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] so so that was knox gorge done now off to joffrey's um should be pretty stick there as well i think water was freezing like always um but definitely feel pretty good afterwards so definitely recommend getting wet so we just did um knox gorge now we're at joffrey's joffrey's gorge um i think there's a swimming hole at the end of this one so that should be pretty sick water's freezing um definitely bring your swimmers though you feel amazing afterwards um so yeah we'll show you guys around [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah no we don't need any viagra for later [Music] no i didn't i didn't ask for anything so we've just finished up for the day we did knox gorge this morning um that was absolutely amazing like so far my favorite i don't know about you yeah the beautiful was so tall and red too the rock was so red and then we went down to joffrey gorge which was also really beautiful but lots of people again but that's what you get when you come here in school holidays i guess so yeah we're dealing with it a bit better now our attitude's changed a bit sort of like it is what it is instead of being angry at the world um yeah we're just going to deal with it so it's been nice though i think next school holidays what we'll do is we'll just like make sure that we know where we're going to be and if it's somewhere that we really want to be like in peace and quiet like we'll just like plan to be somewhere else during the school holiday so like yeah plan yeah plan ahead um so the plan for the rest of the day is that because i went for a run this morning my legs are shot so we're just going to go back and chill out i think everyone's really tired so probably have a cruisy one we made dinner last night um some penne pasta dish with bacon in it which is yum so i'll probably eat that and have an early bed and then tomorrow um we'll hit the gorges again early so he's in the middle of the road yeah there's people in the middle of the road so we're just down at fortescue falls um it's around nine o'clock so it's pretty cold so i don't know if we'll go for a swim or anything yet um we're gonna try and go for a hike down to circular pool don't know if that one's open our friends danny and dave left this morning so we're riding solo but hopefully we'll see them again soon [Music] i'm shrek and welcome to my swamp [Music] [Music] [Music] so we just went for a swim at fernpool i got super lucky no one was there when we were there the waterfall was so nice and i think fernpool was probably the warmest water you'll find at carrigeni we're just doing the dale's gorge walk now and trying to thaw out a bit because it's only nine o'clock it's bloody freezing but the sun that we're standing in is just glorious um i get now why snakes lay on the road that's all i want to do right now [Music] so [Music] i shouldn't have done that got a bloody big splinter [Music] so amazing here insane how do you feel a little bit [Music] g'day guys um we are back at camp so i just thought i'd tell you a little story about how you can get in pretty much anywhere without booking um so carrijani has been booked out for about six months because dave our dave and danny our mates um they were talking to us about it and luckily enough you're allowed three cars per site here so we just jumped on their site we didn't have to book it um so we're meant to leave today um and we sort of did all the gorges thinking we're going to leave today and we ran into some legends um otto um he otto let us use his site he booked it um not knowing how big the sites were that his friends also booked and they all ended up on the same site so he said you can just take our site um anyway like the universe works in funny ways because he then came over and said he's having battery issues um and i said oh i'm a sparky i can help so i went over there and diagnosed his problem he's got a bloody faulty regulator and he needs to change it um anyway it's just funny how acts of kindness like that him letting us use his sight um it can return so quickly um and yeah we we helped him out um and it's just amazing how like that works so i'm just on a little bit of a a high right now um from helping someone out as and they also helped us too so we're about to cook some dinner we're having tacos tonight which should be good my hands really shaky that round the other into my life today i was so sore walking the gorges from that run with dave he absolutely smoked me um i'm definitely not fit at all um and i'm so so i feel like i'm 50 years old tomorrow we're going to hammersley gorge and then we're going to start hunting some free camp so that should be exciting none of this luxury um long drop camping we're going to go out in the bush again if we aren't already but it's going to be sad to leave this joint because we absolutely love it we're having such a good time so good morning guys we just driven an hour out of carrageenan national park into hammersley gorge um pretty rough road make sure you drop your tyres fair bit of bulldust too so make sure you seal your van up because it will get dusted we've come here really early it's almost too cold to swim yet but we're trying to beat the traffic so this place does fill up real quick so make sure you hit it either in the morning or the afternoon after this one hopefully get to millstream national park but underestimated how far it is to karatha which is our next fill up spot um so we're pushing it close on fuel um which was a bit of an oversight on my behalf so hopefully we can get to karatha and fuel up so take you along with us today at hamsley gorge hope you guys enjoy it [Music] that man [Music] cause i love you baby so so we've just done the waterfall at honestly pool um the water was so nice a bit chilly but it was so beautiful um we kind of had it to ourselves there's a few people around but yeah not too bad [Music] [Music] hello that was sick so cold it's amazing how it can go from being warm to cold within 100 meters but so refreshing cause i love you yeah there was a time i didn't have romance but after i met you i felt it wasn't my chance but nobody tells me good things about you we just left hammersley gorge and now we're on our way to millstream national parks we've got about 200 k's of um gravel roads ahead of us [Music] good day guys how pretty was that little view um we're just on the way into millstream national park um a little spot down on the river here um george river is it yeah george river yeah um remote one um you need to be self-sufficient to come in here but um it is free so perks um yeah we don't really know where we're going we're just going off wiki camps how good is wikicamps if we didn't have that we wouldn't know where the bloody hell we are 90 of the time i reckon so we're just following this little goat track it's only a single lane um and we've only seen four wheel drives not towing coming in here so we'll see how the track goes um if there's any interesting bits um that might challenge us we'll film it but if not you might see us at the campsite [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] so we made it definitely never trusting wiki camps again that was absolutely mayhem on the van everything we only filmed a few things but yeah if we would be honest we wouldn't have come down here if we knew how gnarly the track was but we're here we're gonna set up um it was about an hour drive for maybe one night i'm not too sure um maybe two nights to know yet so anyway we're here now let's enjoy it bit of an update we tried to move spots um and then we'll meet it on the other way coming the other way with like a 15 16 car convoy so i had to reverse down the single lane track like over rock steps with the trailer um did all right got it got it back without um having two takes or anything about 100 meters but we've just pulled up and i've just noticed a bit of damage i think i've ripped off the electric brakes the cables underneath the van so that's a bit of a bummer yeah i've just stripped it really i guess it's just something that's inherent problem with coming on these sort of tracks but hopefully i can fix it um then we just got the car stopping the van now but um i'll give you a look um this is under the van just got this just just dangling a on the ground um so hopefully yeah i don't know if you can see that fix that we'll see how we go we feel so defeated so not only did we get snapped broken things on the van but we got a heap of dust in because we drove 300 k's on red dirt today everything's literally dusted inside um and to make things worse we didn't even get to where we wanted to go we're physically five kilometers away but just didn't get there spewing so yeah we just feel defeated so we've woken up it's a new day um [Music] it's always better when you wake up then the next day you feel a lot better about things that have happened the day before so we've taken a more positive outlook it is what it is i reckon i can fix the electronic brakes obviously just a couple crimps we'll get it back to how it was um the dust situation we've just taped up the internal um seal on the back fold out bit that's where we get most of our dust is just through the back it's just so hard to seal something that's like a moving part like it you can't fix it or silicon it because it needs to move and fold out so what we've done is just duct tape the inside we always duct tape the outside but this time we're trying on the inside um and then i'm just using cable ties and just securing these esp oh sorry electronic brakes looms up so it can't get damaged anymore bit of a bummer but is what it is plan for today is to go to python pool which is millstream's biggest gorge um it's the most famous one here um we'll show you guys that and then that'll be the end of this episode [Music] uh [Music] [Music] [Music] here at python pool we're going to go for a little swim and sit and have some lunch here [Music] [Music] good day absolute legends i'll put the link for their channel below we got fuel so we made it um just got a few things to fix on the van and the car spotty fell off on the way out lucky we didn't lose it next
