I use one. Throws a metric shit ton of heat. Mine only runs 8 hours before it needs a refill
Edit: I meant this to be a reply to someone that ,mentioned kerosene heater.
They are selling kerosene for $20 and $30 a gallon around here?!?. I think i remember when it was 30-50 cents. I assume no one uses it for old kerosene heaters. That smelled.
Propane is still much cheaper than gas, here.
I imagine cooking oil makes sense somewhere, sometime.
Yep, it's an idea. I imagine this would be more practical back in like the 1800s and you needed a heater for your little cabin by the lighthouse that wasn't wood burning...but whale oil was plentiful.
These days, I guess it would depend on how quickly it burned and your use case/situation. Replace a wood burning stove in a remote cabin in the woods that's hard to get to? Nah.
Heat up a little ice fishing hut or workshed where a propane heater wouldnt work for some reason? Maybe
If you're going to go that far, I'd get solar, battery and a small mini-split heat pump. Then you have no need to buy and store propane, etc.
I like this. Although I feel like the potential for the oil to get knocked feels pretty high. That would be solvable.
What I like is that you donβt need wood. Any mini wood stove is a pain the ass - I have had one and trying to source firewood that is not standard sized is horrific.
