hi everyone its Blu problem studios back with a nice tutorial video for you guys this video is a follow-up of my first video how to embroider on a home so I'm missing a bit of a mouthful so I'm going to refer to it by its actual term which is free motion embroidery before we get started I actually wanted this video posted by now on tines day but I kind of got the flu and I've had it ever since this entire video was made during having the flu toe mouth up for two weeks now so I'm sorry it's just a little rough around the edges and if my voice sounds kind of funny and still kind of working on getting better okay I'm getting better so exciting in this video I will be showing you how to use your sewing machine to FreeMotion embroidered rectly onto fabric which can either be just fabric itself like a piece of fabric or an actual garment now the fabric i'll be using today is a woven fabric it is not a stretch fabric I have not made tutorial for that yet maybe in the future I will also show you different methods of stitching so it's just one particular zig-zag stitch there's a whole bunch of different ways you can adjust your stitches to get different effects on the fabric I hope you will enjoy this and find it useful and if you have any questions please feel free to ask them in the comments and I will do my best to answer that first let's start with supplies you will need tailors chalk your fabric of choice with fusible interfacing a 6-inch diameter embroidery hoop the design of your choice I chose the Titan symbol from destinies again small scissors needles I chose size 16 a needlepoint tracing wheel thread with a matching bobbin and a cutting mat the mascara we'll be using today as a Singer sewing machine heavy-duty series in the comments on my last video it was requested to show free motion embroidery on a non computerized machine that is what I'll be using today now if you have the option lower your feed dogs this was the top question in my last video my feed ducts which is located on the back of my machine I'm playing this again for posterity if you do not have this option that's okay you can still free motion embroidery on your machine check your manual to see if your machine has this option make sure you have an embroidery or dinosaur attached to your machine this is essential to be able to do free motion embroidery on your sewing machine at home [Music] next set your stitch function on your machine to a zig-zag stitch adjust the length of the stitch after this I like to be around a three on the dial so it is twist next I like around a two or three and you can go up to a floor but watch where your needle hits in the throat of your presser foot you could easily break a needle so be careful now it's time to trace your design onto your fabric i've already fused my interfacing to my fabric following the manufacturer's instructions this is to help stabilize it place your design over your cutting mat and use the tracing wheel poke holes through the paper if you do not have a needlepoint tracing wheel using a 10 or an awl will also work do this on top of your cutting mat to save your table after you have chased your design place it on your fabric where you want to embroider it use the tailors chalk and rub it over where you use the tracing with this will transfer your design to your fabric once you have completed this connect the dots with your tailors chalk make sure you mark your lines as crisply and cleanly as possible these will be your guide lines when you start fitting this is a very important step now you're ready for the hoop take the hoops apart and Center your design over the outermost ring press the inner ring down gently into the outer ring sandwich in the fabric it should be fairly snug begin pulling your fabric taunt in the hoop then start tightening the screw be careful with this step as a bump of fabric is likely to form in the joint of the hoop ease it out as you tighten the screw start pulling the fabric Tom Pugin you want it to feel like a drought let's bounce to it it's time to start stitching make sure your presser foot is up you might have to push the embroidery foot up a little higher to eat your hoop under it walk your needle forward for the first couple of stitches to see where your needle hits in relation to your design adjust accordingly this is where the fun begins one of the reasons I chose this design is that it is four distinct sections I can show you different stitch techniques of each here I'm using a narrow satin stitch method following the edges of the design and stitching on the perimeter to follow for the rest of the stitches this is a linear method that creates great texture now each of the sections of my design here took about eight minutes each to fill it I've stood the whole video up quite a bit when we aren't here for effort [Music] for this next section I'm using a very rough fill-in method just moving the hoop loosely in a back and forth motion this creates a very matted design you will notice the thread reflects light differently than the previous stitch method if you are using a shiny thread like rayon bread you can add a lot of depth to the embroidered piece [Music] [Music] in this next part I try to straight stitch on the edge with practice I'm sure you could get some very nice results however I wasn't pleased with my initial result so I went back over the 15 with a very narrow zig-zag stitch I continued with that narrow zigzag and I only move the hoop in a linear motion to essentially create stripes this can create some really visually interesting stitching I encourage you to experiment with it [Music] I saved my favorite flask and moved my stitch with all the way up to a fix I had to be very careful with moving the hoop so I didn't cause the needle to misalign and hit my pressure foot instead of the fabric which could very easily break the needle I followed the edge of the trace behind just like I did in the first part however you may notice where I've gotten to some trouble here I didn't draw my lines very straight with the chalk so in turn the lines I tried to stitch weren't straight either face work may be boring but it's incredibly important for the structure of the whole piece just look at how shiny that is I am really fond of this particular method [Music] and that's all the skipping time to remove it from the hoop give it a good once-over with your iron to remove the indentation left by the embroidery hoop yeah you did it free motion embroidery isn't difficult it just takes practice and person people I really do suggest you guys practice I should have practiced more this is my only practice that I did before I made this video so that it turned out neater but if you guys are going to be doing this seriously for anything whether it's embroidering on loved ones clothing or something for a costume it just may be a really neat applique you should always practice before you do the real thing I also encourage you to experiment half of fun with free motion embroidery is experimentation you should always experiment find your pen stitches see what works for you this is a big field and there's so much room to play it and there's so many different stitches you can try two different types of thread or fabric the options are completely endless you can do anything you want with it so please experiment I would absolutely love to see your badges progress and projects with this if you use this tutorial video and you find it useful and you post on Instagram go ahead and tag me at maluma sky
