hey guys welcome back to another 3d printing video and in this video we're gonna take a look at the Mars pro resin printer so you probably already know that the original L ago Mars is a awesome printer and I recommended it as the best budget printer that you can get and so the pro model here should have some good improvements in usability and maybe even print quality so in this video we're gonna unbox it set it up and do some prints alright so let's get started [Music] so the Marx Pro comes in this box that looks to be just identical to the original Mars so we have a little picture here on the front with the printer and on one of the sides we have some more information so it does have the 3.5 inch touchscreen navigation choose the box of what you'll use for slicing and it does have a USB interface for bringing the files in so here we have some more detailed information and it weighs sixteen point five pounds alright so let's go ahead and open it up since this is a resin printer the overall size of the box is not very large alright so it looks like we're in plastic wrap and let see some foam in there now let's go ahead and flip it over alright so I don't remember that the other printer was protected in this plastic bag here but this one is and as you guys can see it's in case completely in foam so it's very well protected go ahead and pull one of the sides off alright we have a toolkit box and the printer itself she's got a good weight to it and we have a little user manual which is quite nice and detailed kinda shows you how to set up the printer and get started and so the form factor looks to be identical to the last model alright so let's go ahead and try to get this cover off here it's all plastic wrapped okay so it just comes right up alright so they definitely seem to take more care about the wrapping on this model here alright and that's very nice looking it's like this darker red transparent and I like how it's one piece and feels very solid it's quite thick so here we have more foam and here we can see the built plate and it does look a bit different these bolts look larger here and the bottom is definitely different because it has the aluminum finish on it but as you can see that maybe machine cut like this because there's little grooves in it and I think that helps it stick better you got more foam here here we have the printer so it practically looks the same there seems to be some differences here let's go ahead and check this tub out this definitely looks different and you guys can see that it's got like thinner profile the different look here we do you have little words here to the same max and that's what the back looks like and and then does appear that we have to take off a little film here so I guess we should go ahead and do that right now so there's definitely a little bit more attention to detail on this Pro than the earlier version slide this thing back in so we got two knobs that hold it down so before we take a closer look at the printer let's go ahead and check out what's in this toolkit here so the toolkit comes nicely packed so we have a spatula and it actually has rounded corners and it is sharp almost razor sharp actually that's very nice it looks like we also have some kind of gasket here all right so this looks like it maybe goes on the cap on the bottom of the cap go ahead and try that out and sure enough it looks like it does okay so that's actually pretty nice I guess it acts like a seal maybe and also you know acts kind of like a shock absorber when you put it on here it's definitely a snug fit all right well that's very nice definitely like that up great all right so here we have an injected molded little tool port looks very nice has a little ellegua going here so after printing a model this will go up then you can use this tool here to let it sit you know on an angle like this to drain out all the residents all right so we do have a power supply and it's a 12 volt 6 amp and then we have the AC cord that'll plug into it and it looks like it has a very good reach also lots of wire so it looks like we have some Allen wrenches and extra bolts looks like for the tub that the replacement of the screen and some larger bolts we also get a plastic spatula to scrape off and some cutters looks to be some kind of brand name once these are actually quite nice and very useful to take off supports so we also get allen wrench cooled driver tool and I'm not sure what this tool will be used for but I can think of one thing that will definitely use it for and we'll get to that in a second so here we have a bunch of safety equipment so we have two very nice masks so these will go around your mouth and nose and this you know helps you keep out the particles that are I guess floating around and we also have some strange filters and there's a really quite a few I'm in here eight to ten of them something like that so that's nice that they included a bunch of them and also we have thumb drive here this is where we can put our files and then connect it to the prayer and we also get a little measuring cup if you wanted to measure out your resin unfortunately my cup came cracked so probably not gonna be useful but I don't use this anyways and we get quite a few gloves and you definitely definitely want to use gloves guys so if you're just getting started with resin printing this is very important that you don't want resin to get on your hands or anywhere on your skin because it will burn and eat them up and not to mention how unhealthy it is if it you know your body starts absorbing the resin definitely do this in a ventilated room where the fumes can inject themselves alright so that looks like everything let's go ahead and zoom in into this part right here alright so the only thing I can think of what to do with this screwdriver is loosen these bolts now the reason for that is because there's a little plastic protective cover here for the LCD screen but on the last model and it looks like same here it's pinched behind there and so I had a lot of people tell me on the last printer that why didn't you loosen these two bolts to pull it out correctly because if you just rip this kind of have some residue left back there of the film so let's go ahead and try that we're gonna loosen these two bolts here just a little bit and I don't know if that's gonna help us any the screen definitely falls in there and sure enough this little plastic protecting cover comes right off and you can kind of tell right there where it was pinched so if you want to do it correctly loosen these little bolts just a little bit and you protect their screen will come out now just tighten them up real quick just a little bit and we got a really nice clean line here so let's go ahead and take a look at this thing a little closer logo here with the Mars and the p4 Pro now the first thing I noticed is that they moved the USB port right here to the front and that is definitely better place for it more convenient so the body looks to be about the same let's look underneath we have a grill there with the fan underneath we do have four adjustable feet and they are plastic but the good part about them is they do adjust up and down so you have an uneven surface you can adjust it go pretty you guys design overall go to the see we have a little label and just some basic information and this is where our port for the power is and then our on and off switch here you have some venting holes yeah pretty much pretty clean overall there's a fan right here I don't remember if the other one had this one not what's new about the pro model here is it does have a carbon filter right in here and that helps eliminate some of the fumes that come out of this machine so here we have the screen with the tub and on our z-axis we have a lead here that goes through and it has like a metal bushing here and this whole piece is metal a lot of pieces are metal here I already see but it is writing on linear rail on the back looks quite robust and solid and this is what the top looks like little cap on the top so yeah that's pretty much the basics of this resin printer so the great thing about resin printers is they're not too complicated as far as operation goes you only have one moving part to the z-axis so for the next part let's go ahead and plug it in powered on and level this platform here so we can make sure where it needs to be then I'll pull out the older version and we'll take our closer look between the two since they do look very similar and then we'll print quite a few models on this printer and I'll print a few on the older version also so we can compare all right so I got my power adapter plugged into the wall and we do have a little light here on the brick and the cord on the wiring is very long I think it's probably about eight feet maybe even more so you got a really good reach from the plug let's go ahead and flip this guy around and here in the back we can see this is where we'll plug in all right so let's go ahead and hit the power button in the back should power it off here and there we go it says Mars Pro and it's on so the fan is on and it's actually quite a quite machine so I can tell that the layout on the uie it looks a little different let's see okay so yeah it looks more simplistic I guess more modern-looking alright so what we need to do is we need to I guess set 0 which is home so I guess it's already sitting there let's go ahead and lift it up okay so we have a home here also I'm gonna go and by the way that is ultra quiet as it goes up so let's go ahead and remove our bed or our tubs you Nessie now what you want to do is you want to make this platform as even as possible to the screen here so let's go ahead and mount it so you're gonna need your huge allen wrench and you're just gonna loosen these bolts here just a little bit and you can see how that kind of dropped it as loose and there's actually a spring in there and the spring action is for the variances of the in stop switch so sometimes it can be a little lower a little higher and the spring compensates so you can use a sheet of printing paper or even this manual here we can just use one page of it so what we're gonna do is we're gonna click home and that's going to lower our build plate all the way down and so the sheet of paper is gonna kind of give us that thin film kind of set to the film that's on the tub alright and so once this lowers the spring action actually helps level this thing because normally what you'd have to do is kind of hold it down and tighten it but the spring inside here is pushing down on it so it's very flat right now so all you got to do is just orientate it correctly because it spins all around so make sure you get it quite square and so once you're happy with where it's at all you're gonna do is just tighten these large bolts here back up and you still might want to hold this down just in case so this should be nice and tight now and every corner should be equal so let's go ahead and raise it up and that's how simple it is to level this platform and now we can put our tub back in tighten it up and that's it and believe it or not guys it's as simple as that to get started to print so there's not too much needed to learn or to understand mechanically to get this thing going and that is another plus of resin printers and the Mars has always been a very friendly and kind of a straightforward machine alright so I got both of the machines out you can see the original Mars on the left and the new Mars on the right so there are quite a few differences let's go throw them real quick so they're both on as you can see and the original Mars has a different font on the UI so it definitely looks a little more friendly than the new one see if we go to tools here you guys can see the difference so the older one is just a little bit more colorful and pronounced I guess the newer one is more flat and cleaner so either way they're both nice I do prefer the old one I think a little better just seems to be more friendly so as far as the base goes you guys can see they're practically the same and there's not much difference to them now the resin tub is definitely different so the Nira want is more thinner and I guess can hold probably a little more resin the older one is just very thick right here and you know much heavier then we go to the bill plates and as you guys saw earlier we definitely have a much different bill plate on the pro here with this aluminum finish surface where the older one is just has the textured black finished coating just like it is on the top on the Pearl we have much larger bolts here to clamp it down I guess maybe better for long-term stability that way you level it once and never have to go back to it the older one just has set screws there so I guess that was a little upgrade now another upgrade I guess it would be is the newer one the pro uses linear rail here where the older version uses a different kind of rail system it rides on this edges here I'm not sure which one would be better but I'm guessing if the pro has the linear rail that is probably the better and more stable option maybe they both use optical sensors for the z/n stuff the pro does have a little bit of a wider profile than the original one it's a little thinner so obviously our SD card reader goes to the front on the pro and on the original one it actually goes on the back so I'm gonna flip these guys around so we can see the back and the pro cable has a 90 degree all the older model just has a straight out which this is much better because you can you know get it closer to the wall without pushing on the cable here's our USB port on the older one and the newer Pearl doesn't have anything there so it's just cleaner on the back you just have the power switches so since the pro has the carbon filter you can see that there is this breathing hole right here which this old everyone doesn't have so that should help us eliminate some of the resin smells and I guess just you know unwanted fumes are more condensed but other than that as you guys can see they're pretty similar now another a pretty large difference is on the pro the power brake that it comes with is actually a 2 amp while the original one is a 1.5 amps so the pro seems to demand a little more power and I might have something deal with the UV curing also and I don't know if you guys will be able to tell the difference or not but I can definitely tell that the pro is a little quieter than the original so the fan on the original is definitely more aggressive sounding the pro has a more subtle more pleasant fan sound but it's not a huge difference and the cover caps are practically identical except the pro comes with the rubber seal here on the bottom so that's pretty much all the differences that I can tell with these so I think the next thing we need to do is we need to go ahead and put some resin in them and get some prints going but before we do that let's go ahead and plug in the USB thumb drive that came with the printer which by the way they both have the same kind and let's check out the menu system here on the new one and see if there's any kind of test files that are included well I guess let's look at our tool so the tools you have the manual movement of the bed and you can home it obviously and then exposure this turns on your UV lights on the top here so you can check make sure they're working so this is our home to reset the Ziya z-axis offset we don't mean to do that because we're good here we have a big stop button tank clean not sure what that is I guess that has something to do with the UV lights curing and that is all the options so these printers are really simple and that's another thing that's quite nice about a resin printer especially these illigal Mars is that if you don't really know what you're doing you're still going to be ok this is quite straightforward so here we have some settings so we've got information the system ID version calibrating the touch screen we don't need to do that some service and gives you information on where to go to change your languages and then we have two languages I guess Chinese and English and that is it and that's everything so here we have the print button now if we click that it's gonna start reading off of this card here or this thumb drive and we can see here we do have some files on there so let's see if we can find anything but we got software models offered by meaning factory there's something maybe ok so here we have some roots the prints so if we click on that it gives us a preview and if we push this play button start printing that and it appears that you can actually delete the file also I don't want to try that right now probably can use that and you use these arrows here to browse up and down so quite a very straightforward and easy navigation so when you buy either of the printers that they don't come with a test sample of any kind of resin so you have to buy your own resin which I do have some elegant gray resin that I bought when I did the review on this printer and I think this was around 30 to 40 dollars and goes the price keeps moving up and down but I'll have some links if you want to use the original but most residents will work just fine so we're gonna use mostly this resident might try some other resin also so at this point you know if you're ready to print you know you want to make sure that you're in a ventilated area when I pour the resin in I usually don't put in my gloves because I don't you know get contact with it but if you think you're gonna get in contact where they go ahead and put on your gloves so all we're gonna do now is we're gonna pour in the resin into both of the tubs I'm gonna go ahead and pour it in the pro here first so I love this color grade the models come out really nice about half of it in there and about half in this other no long alright so now we're pretty much ready to print so I'm gonna go ahead and go into the print and I'm gonna go ahead and print the roofs and we'll print the same ones on the other one also preview comes up here and we're just gonna push play and it starts now I'm going to show you guys up close here in a second with all the information that's available so you can see our z-axis is going down it's going to go into the resin and it'll start printing or curing should I say there we go and there's our first layer so I'm gonna go ahead and start the other one and we have the same file in here also at least I think it's the same file and now we can see that one they're going down and it's gonna start pretty okay so you guys can see the other one beeps this new on here doesn't seem to beep at all now that one beeps for a little bit after a few layers and then it stops beeping in it's fine and when it does finish it beeps also so we'll see if this one beeps or not all right well hopefully you can see that so here you have the preview of what's being printed right now cured or is curing each layer so we have the progress bar to eat that which is 1% and then we have the file information and then on the very left we have the estimated time that it's going to take to print which is 3 hours and 21 minutes here we have how much time passed there's five minutes and then we have the layer that it's on which is the fifth layer out of 1000 layers so here on the side we have some options we can stop the print pause the print and then we have some more settings underneath here and here we can adjust the exposure time so we have five bottom layers and the bottom layers will be exposed at 50 and that is 50 seconds I guess for each layer and then we have the normal exposures after the five layers will be at 6 seconds and you can actually adjust this if you click on it you can see you can adjust the layers so that's a really nice feature and that's pretty much it so it's quite simple and very intuitive so on our older machine here we can see we pretty much have all the same functions stop pause and the settings and we have the same kind of adjustments here and pretty much the same kind of information just looks a little different on how it's displayed to be honest I do prefer this older look a little better but I think the newer look you know should grow on me pretty easy guess they're going for a more cleaner you know I guess more Pro look so so both of these have a thousand layers each so they should be quite similar and yeah I'm just gonna let them print and now we'll see what comes out of them so we do need to put our covers on and the covers kind of protect the resin from UV rays and also you know keeps the smells in so this new cover here with the rubber seal does seem to be definitely nicer on the pro all right so both of the printers are done and it looks like we're successful on both sides so we are going to need some alcohol and this is what I got right here so I'm going to go ahead and take these caps off so now we need to go ahead and put on some gloves and this is very important because you want to protect your skin from the resin because in this process you will end up touching it almost a guaranteed so also it's pretty convenient to have like a bottle of alcohol this is 91% the higher the better but this should be fine alright let's go ahead and cut the model's ear off alright so that looks pretty good if I can show you guys a little closer that's what we do need to rinse them off so what I'm gonna try to do here is use this plastic spatula this part usually is not very graceful because they're stuck on there pretty good and then when they release they just pop off pretty hard so the best way I found this to lay this thing on the side like this so you got something to push against I don't think this plastic spatula is gonna do it so when I get the metal ones so they did include this really nice one and sharp so that should work great alright so it looks like this built plates holding them really good maybe a little too good to be honest cutting into the model seems like there it goes so there's our first one about this next one Bluff alright so the other one came off easier so yeah this thing stuck really good in any case since we're gonna print more we're just gonna put this build plate back and tighten it up and we're actually good for the next print so I'm gonna go ahead and wash these guys up so watching them thoroughly is quite important because you don't want to have any resin left over because if it is on there's gonna be kind of like a shiny finish alright so I think that should be good enough so let's go ahead and bring our other ones in also not coming off too easy normally it's never this hard it's kind of interesting all right so there you go kind of made a splash with that one definitely want to be careful all right well older Mars plate also sticks really well all right so we're gonna wash these up real good and then we're gonna cure them and I'm pretty excited to see if there's any difference so once they dry I'm gonna write on the bottom of the pro p4 Pro on the other ones so we can distinguish the two different printers all right so let's get to the roofs that we printed so on each side here we have two pairs from the two printers now here's the interesting part just by looking at them there's not really any huge difference honestly you really have to look hard to even tell so the two over here are from the original printer and the two over here are from the pro and I've got a little pea underneath them indicating that's where they're from now the thing that I can tell you right away that I noticed is that from the pro everything is a little bit more sharper meaning like the fine details are a little bit more precise or pronounced and I think that has something to do with the new UV lighting in the pro that's a little bit stronger and maybe more accurate and so it's able to reproduce a finer or more precise edging so let's take one from the pro here and the regular ones and the biggest difference you guys can see and hopefully you can see that pretty well is the lettering there inside you can see that the pro lettering is cleaner than the lettering on the other machine so it's not like a huge difference but it's definitely a difference so here we are looking at the front of it and the pros of this one and you can see how this the lettering is a little bit sharper the printers are very close in their quality what the pros capable is a much finer detail so if you have a lot of thin small detailed prints the pro will do a better job but as you guys can see the original Mars is quite a impressive printer all by itself so we're just printing away and I want to show you a feature that I really like that the marsh printers have and I guess you would call this a feature but when you pause with your print go ahead and take this off what it does is it lifts built platform up higher and the cool part about that is when you're printing down here on the viewer first layers and some times you know you're just thinking is my print stuck to the plate or not and I noticed that some printers don't do this and I really appreciate this feature when you pause it it goes up and so what you can do is you can look underneath and make sure that your model is stuck you know instead of waiting an hour or two only to find out that you know nothing's working out so I really appreciate this feature especially if you're troubleshooting or using a new resident or whatever is going on I really like that so when you push to resume it goes back to exactly where you know it left off so I really like that the marks printers do this all right so we got another print here that's finished it's looking really nice so I want to go ahead and show you guys how to use this mount thing there's a drain mount so what you're gonna do is unscrew the plate hopefully you can see that but the amount goes into there and then it just hanged here and basically that just puts it on an angle and drains the fluid down to be honest I didn't find this absolutely necessary but in any case that's how that works and it's pretty neat that it's included with the printer now let's go ahead and look at other prints we made so all these prints were going to be looking at are from the pro and here we have a ball and you guys can see how excellent the detail is on this ball so this is quite a fine print and the printer handled this with amazing accuracy so here we have a little soldier I didn't take him off the supports you guys can see the quality and the detail it's quite amazing and this gun that he's holding it's got another sharp edge right here and it gets really thin and when you can have precision like this you know you got a good printer this resident is quite nice because it's got a little bit of flex to it so overall very very impressive and the details is what matter and as you guys can see the details are excellent so after that I wanted to change the rezident to clear resin so I do have some clear resin but it is not technically clear it's got a yellowish tint to it still looks pretty good here we printed this a lizard thing and this thing is quite hollow and doesn't take much resin to print and you guys can see it turned out really good and it's just a nice little print I did break off his finger right here taking it off the bill plate something fragile like this you got to be really careful as you can see the printer has no issue with making very thin and you know lightweight kind of prints so naturally I printed more clear prints and this is a I guess some kind of pie but all these are little hopefully you can see that there are little numbers and the accuracy of the detail on those numbers is just phenomenal and this thing is quite thin too so if I actually push on it you can kind of see it bends so this resin is actually pretty good for durability it might not be cured all the way yet part of a reason maybe still curing here on the bottom you guys can see the clearness of it I mean it's pretty decent do you have a little pie logo there so after that I wanted to print something even more delicate and this is a very thin-walled I mean it is ultra thin I guess this was supposed to be kind of like a diamond but I just wanted to see how thin I could print something and it did a pretty good job being very thin but we had some tears and rips here as it was printing but overall it looks pretty good for how thin it is and it's literally like paper guys I mean maybe even thinner than paper it's very thin so after all that clear I went back to the gray and here we printed this line so this line here I actually sliced myself it was included on the card but you had to you know put supports in and things like that so I had supports running through here you can kind of see where I cut him away the light turned out pretty good overall I did have a little wine going some layer line and the reason I have that is because I made him too thin he's actually quite thin you can kind of see there's holes here and he should have been a little thicker if I squish him hard enough I can collapse him quite easy so that was just my mistake making him too thin but as far as the details go they turned out pretty well no I wouldn't say that you know this turned out amazingly well but still very nice print all right so I saved the best for last which is this matter hackers astronaut thinking and this turned out very well so I wanted to see you know how the layers stack up on a smooth surface and you can see here on this helmet how smooth that is is it turned out very nice so this is hollow you can see this the hole here that drained all the resin but I did make a much hopefully you see the thickness there a little bit thicker or quite a bit thicker I think it was 1.5 millimeters thickness which made this very stable thus eliminating any kind of layering because of you know being too soft and this turned out really really well the smooth surfaces are all very nice very happy how this turned out and obviously all our details are as perfect as they can be I think this print was designed more for a regular FDM printer so these are all the prints that I did now I did find an older model that I printed on the non Pro Mars and this is this tank here and I actually kept this I don't usually keep all my prints because I have way too many on this one I kept because it was so nice and just a cool looking print and if I share a resident print I usually like to whip this one out because it's quite unique so it's a tank so you guys can see how good the Mars printers are and the pro would be even more detailed than this so now that you guys saw all the prints you can see that the pro it does very well and actually a little bit better than the original print by these rooks that we found out and so this is the Mars pro so as you guys saw in the prints that we made that the pro definitely has a little bit of advantage of the original marks but I do have to say to be honest that the original Mars is still a great printer and maybe even a better value you know depending on if you want the extra features that this pro has now the main thing I noticed number one it's quieter number two it has a much better seal and I'm guessing because of this rubber here and the carbon filter makes it where you almost don't smell anything so if you keep this closed and you're printing it really eliminates the smells so if that's important to you the probe is probably a much better choice and on the tank on the pro it's actually harder to clean because of all the grooves that it has the resin tends to sit and the new bed cutouts so it's a little harder to wash than the older one with all the new features and plus having that little better detailed print quality you can go to the pro here so but other than that as you guys can see the printers are very similar so if you wanted a reson printer that's actually good either these two would do the job if you want something a little bit more nicer more refined the pro here and the original Mars it's still a great value especially right now at the price it's a so if you're just starting out with resin printing these are great machines to start with they're very easy to use and the print quality is you guys see there that's excellent so I'm going to put some links in the description for both of these printers I'm not sure if the Pro is available yet but the links will be in the description so check that out and if you guys enjoyed this video then hit that like button if you want to see more videos like this I do a lot of 3d printing review so if you're not subscribed and hit that subscribe button to see more and also check out the original Mars review there's a few things in there that I didn't include in this video might be interesting but as always guys thanks for watching and I'll see you on the next one peace
