Edit Annotation

so now you can see the labels have some placement problems some duplicate labels and some labels cover the state for example annoying and we're missing some state names on the East Coast so I'm gonna go to editor and stop editing because it's now layer and attention lane we can now edit we don't see this editor toolbar you go to customize toolbars good editor so it's my editor toolbar available now a good editor spotted ink and pick the layer that you want to edit it so I'm gonna pick state a no that's the label now I can use the editor toolbar and notice we have a few different options here but the one we're going to use is edit annotation tool and maybe that if you point to one of these states and may pick the state itself or not the label so to avoid doing that because the last thing you want to do is move a state or a county so to avoid this right-click on this label the state name label layer annotation right mouse selection and make this the only selectable layer meaning don't commit me to accidentally delete another county or Steve all I need to do is edit really the names so Washington is quite a few I think I'll move this Washington over to the right slightly so that it doesn't get below the capital Hanover this looks okay South Dakota I think should be over to the right maybe because there's too many it's below it's above the capital well Michigan has too many I'll remove some of these Michigan has two parts across one across the lake of each other so I'll leave both names in Illinois is is needs to be moved up same with Indiana Ohio see what else well it's quite a few Texas Louisiana is in here twice I think Louisiana what I'll do is I'm gonna move this into the ocean like so now to get this to work where we need to leader you can point to Louisiana name right click Adelita and you can almost see it it's a green point in the middle I'm gonna point right in the middle and drag it out to the state it always seems to give us this problem where it doesn't see the whole line but few refreshing you'll see it appear Mississippi I think I could rotate this but you don't people to flip the map around to read the labels too much so if I do when they rotate it I guess I could I can right-click on it also and tell it to curve now it's got this curved shape maybe I'll just rotate it this way a bit and then move it up so that intention here is for you to try to get familiar with some of these tools and make a pretty good attempt to get the link used to work if you get too creative that may not be good you and what the labels to be upside down for example somewhat George it down here South Carolina don't need to now with South Carolina I think it will also move that one of the coasts so I'll point to South Carolina I'll move it over here maybe I'll make it the bead oriented it to the left side right now it's set so I'll double-click on this and then you'll see on the right a new window up here takes a minute mine opened up on the bottom up in the movie see you there so it says South Carolina I'm going to place the be orientated to the left but why now looks better but I need to draw a leader it's all right click add a leader and draw a box out the line North Carolina don't need twice you too now I think North Carolina be best with the single line because it's kind of cramped I guess I could place it there not too bad oh yeah Tennessee I move is underneath the Capitol can talk to you too many Kentucky's let's see what else we have all right now it starts good to be a little more work so for example Virginia we need one Maryland just one West Virginia think I'm moving over here mmm blood more to the left and this Virginia down so it doesn't coolant Merle and I gonna move us out to the coast so I label Maryland the trick is right-click add leader not to let to lead a cross over another state boundary except from Maryland let's see if this works nothing I want a new jersey I'll bring this out I think on a put onto one line so I can right-click unstack what I'm trying to do is get the labels to be aligned one above the other makes it easier to read ad leader track that over to New Jersey oops I'll be with you slightly so a few more things a lot of things you can work up yourself but I think Delaware's missing I think it's a Delaware I'll identify it so that is Delaware okay so it's missing a label with my editor tool let's see if I could find okay so the annotation layer has a akha beauty so if I right click on state atom OpenTable you can see that all of these state names are labeled except more placed some are not so I'm going to organize this by state named Alabama seems replaced California has several so that's okay we have at least one labeled district Columbia does not have more than only has one so I'm gonna make it to be placed and Delaware to placed so Delaware and District of Columbia is not displayed Louisiana has at least one so that's good Marilyn has moved just one that's fine New York is fine I'm not sure Northeast I'll leave that one placed Rhode Island I carry one at least labeled in Texas I think everything else is good so I'm going to close the attribute in Delaware bring it back over to here right click add a leader and then crack the leader to the state the trick is again they try to get these labels to be 1 and right above each other so a few more New York's label twice I don't need that twice Connecticut then County to move this one out Adelita remove the leader for Connecticut to the state name the bad thing to do would be for you to label the wrong state meaning the the stay name you provide is wrong so that I'm trying to avoid overlapping New York but that wasn't so hard to do Rhode Island I'm gonna bring this one out right Mouse one stack may appoint Connecticut out of it you there we go now Rhode Island is just a book that one so and then I'm going to Adelita and then label net toward Island and a few more let's see what else we have Maine too many Vermont I'm going to bring that out the state Idol leader bring it in and Massachusetts brings over here idle either things in and one more New Hampshire I'm gonna unstack this the line to mess add a leader whoops missed it right on top of the Greenpoint you drag it to there okay there's a refresh down in the bottom left corner boy hit f5 that'll work too all right oh one more District Columbia you can see down below so to do this I think I need to break my rule and place it inside of another state because district alone is pretty small so if i zoom in you can see there is District of Columbia that's right there so I'm going to double click a District of Columbia title name on the right there you can see it's displayed on your butt Dade : meet the Point C Point hit apply and then I'm gonna move it a little bit away from there right mouse Adelita and drag the leader to the state or the normally state it's a district ok refresh that looks like it worked so now I think I'm done I need a good editor stop editing save edits and yes
