Tom's black eyes are perhaps his most unique character trait. whilst practically every other character in the show has more standard irises Tom's sockets have been consistently empty... ...Except when they're not. Or when he doesn't even have eye sockets. This is the story of Tom's eyes The mystery of Tom's eyes has been a part of the show since near the beginning of eddsworld They've been referred to on several occasions But a true in-universe explination has never actually been offered in this video I plan to chronicle the existence of Tom's eyes and try to find an explanation for their existence Or lack thereof. In the earlier years of the show, Tom did not have his now iconic black holes. Instead, he was drawn with a unibrow eye which was sort of conjoint. This was originally inspired by the works of Gary Larsen Considering it has been shown that Tom's born black eyes in 25 feet under the seat It can be assumed that the original design was retconned out of existence with the new style During that scene in 25 feet under the seat we see that Tom is a son to a bowling ball and a watermelon It is a popular fan theory that Tom's eyes were inherited from his mother Making him part bowling ball. As we all know, bowling balls just have holes in them, so Tom's eyes must be holes, right? we'll have a look at this scene in Hammer and Fail part 2 Tom is rubbing his eyes before putting his fist right into them. And look they're clearly not holes Does this mean that Tom does have eyes but just completely black ones? That's what Edd seems to think in The End "Tom" "Yeah?" "I've always wondered, why are your eyes black?" "Yeah... Why is that?" This would also make sense considering this scene in Zanta Claus, where Tom's eyes turn normal for a second Does this mean that Tom has the ability to make his eyes normal when he wants to? Well apparently not Because in Zanta Claus 2, he straight-up puts a pair of eyes into his face These eventually get shot out at the end of it the episode which must mean that Tom has two holes where his eyes are. Just to make sure, let's watch Zanta Claus 3 and... What? Yeah. strangely enough, these are the only three episodes that I can think of that Tom has ever been seen with eyes Well, except the scene in Space Face "Cool." "What about this?" "Well, that's a laser gun" "lame." "..Wait" GAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH So maybe we'll never know the truth behind Tom's eyes. We'll never know how he sees with them, if he even has eyes, or if he just has black voids on his face If I had to make a guess, I'd say that the show is leaning more heavily towards Tom not having any eyes at all. I personally like to think that Tom does have eyes, just black ones. Or, he did before... GAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH That. nevertheless You can think what you want to think. If you think that Tom doesn't have any eyes at all, that's fine If you think that tom has eyes just completely black ones. That's fine, too. We can all just agree that they are a unique and iconic part of a unique an iconic character
